Gastric Bypass in 2 months

fontofnoknowledge · 18/04/2018 07:44

I would like to know if anyone on here has had a Gastric Bypass. I have jumped through all the hoops and am now just waiting for surgery date which should be in the next 8 Weeks. I would like to hear from anyone who has had a Bypass or Sleeve . (Not a band it's a very different Operation) .
It appears to be a very taboo subject on MN - (I have even felt the need to name change) and despite there being hundreds of threads on the latest diet, there is surprisingly little about the only scientifically proven longterm sustainable weight loss treatment for those with obesity or morbid obesity.
I am after any advice for the immediate post op period and the process of moving from liquids to solids and any other advice really.

They did it !! It took 4 hrs and the very clever surgeons removed ALL the adhesions and gave me a Gastric Sleeve. Which I am thrilled with.

Only happened yesterday so feeling a bit battered bruised and tired. More updates over next few days x

Awesome Font !

So pleased for you!

Oblomov18 · 12/12/2018 03:25

So pleased font
And Josh, how are you?

Just got back from visiting Dh. He was dopey, groggy and confused, bless him.

There were complications apparently so they decided to do a sleeve. I don't know more than that atm.

Sofabitch · 12/12/2018 06:10

How are you feeling font?

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 14/12/2018 15:13

Hi-we are good, he’s feeeling the restriction a lot at the moment. Mostly good days, a small smattering of bad days, but he’s 2 stone 11.5lb down so it’s all good.

Sofabitch · 15/12/2018 08:00

I'm finding the Christmas grazing super hard to overcome!!!

Chocolate in the staff room etc. Really easy to slowly eat far too much!!

I'm surprised at how much I can eat now if I try...But I'm so close to my goal....6 kgs to go!!!

Sofabitch · 15/12/2018 10:08

ShockShock my first gain!!! 0.5kg on... I'm not surprised I've been eating loads and am due on

Fontofnoknowledge · 15/12/2018 10:54

Hi Sofabitch (or should we change that to 'Runningroundtheparkbitch ? ) STAND BACK FROM THOSE CHOCS !!! You haven't come all this way to fall at the last fence. Don't forget the wise words of that great philosopher of our time - Kate Moss - ' nothing tastes as good as thin feels'.....

All VERY easy for me to say at 11 days post op.
I'm surprised at how much I can eat now if I try... Don't try ! You know what happens if you 'try' and succeed and who wants to 'try' and fail at anything. It really is a no win situation.

I am on a fb group from my hospital where I had my surgery. We have started a thread of non-food Christmas treats to make us feel non deprived and still Christmassy.... instead of choc/mince pies buy yourself good smelling Tea Candles, get yourself a beautiful new decoration for your tree, treat yourself to a non-calorie haircut/pedicure/manicure/ facial.... new clothes. Go ice skating, a carol concert. So many ideas that last a lot longer and have a much better long term effect than quality street. 😉

Meanwhile WOW !!! 6k to go. What an amazing achievement in such a short time. !

OP posts:
Sofabitch · 15/12/2018 20:55

Haha thanks. It's the mindless eating thats the issue.

10 celebrations in a day is 500 cals... which is a lot these days !! But it's easy to eat one chocolate an hour ;)

I'm totally happy with where I am...90% of my excess weight lost the 6kg is just what would put me as bmi 25

I'm a size 10-12 fit(ter) and healthy. I'm not going backwards.

These next 2 week's are.going to be so hard though!

Glad you are doing well!

Sofabitch · 15/12/2018 20:59

Oh and the calories in cheese!! fuck!

Fontofnoknowledge · 15/12/2018 23:05

I know you aren't going backwards.. I was just doing the pro talk that we all need once the weight has gone.

Feel free to come and shout at me in a year 🤩.. xx

parchworkpatty how you getting on with the west wing? I found series 5 really hard going but it all falls back into place in series 6, I’ve watched it that many times I can dip in and out but my go to’s are always series one as that’s where it’s all still all new and positive Grin.

Sofa DH is struggling with Christmas chocolate too-it slides in far too easily apparently.

Sofabitch · 17/12/2018 07:36

Yes...it's the small bite sizeness lol

And my office seem to be full of feeders! Every single day people bring In high calorie snacky foods.

I think I was more confirming to myself that I'm not going back wards lol...

Sofabitch · 28/12/2018 07:04

@Fontofnoknowledge
How are you doing?

I found Christmas hard !! It's basically entirely based around eating! But I allowed myself treats. Just didn't go crazy. Hoping to get back to normal.

Even did the Christmas day park run!

Anyway. Just jumped on the scales and have just slipped under 70kgs!!! So I lost that 0.5kg and a little more. Bmi now 27.3

I just put loads of clothes in the loft yesterday! I sold/binned all my size 18-26's but I've decided to keep the 14-16's in the loft. I don't want to be there ever again. But I guess they are all
Pretty much brand new clothes!

My skin isn't even too bad. When I lay down I look like I'm melting and I'll probably get a tummy tuck eventually. But tbh its way better than I thought it would be.

I hope everyone else is doing well

Fontofnoknowledge · 08/01/2019 23:08

That's fantastic news Font, congratulations!

I am 9 months after my bypass and at 78kg, size 12. It seems I prefer a slightly looser fit and do tend to wear size 14!

In a perfect world I would lose another 8kg, but I'm confident as I am, worried about some loose skin on my neck, loving my shape and can't be arsed with the extra work that would be needed. I haven't actually lost anything since the beginning of November!!

So pleased that my boobs have stood the test of this weight loss though, and I've developed an hour glass shape I wasn't expecting (or ever had), which my husband is loving as much as me.

Food wise, everything is normal. I have some food I've gone off of, but otherwise can eat most things in moderation.

I love this thread though... Who knew how many people would use it as a source for information when you started it!!!

Oblomov19 · 31/01/2019 13:02

Hey Font, how are you doing?
Dh is doing well. Back at work after 5 weeks. Lost 4 stone.

But having problems with what he eats. He's in pain and then being sick. But its not too much food, I don't think. Or too quick eating. It seems to be WHAT he eats. Once it was a very small amount of pasta, another time pulled pork, another time stir fry with garlic and chilli. All small amounts.
We cant work out what we are doing wrong. Too carby?

Inthetropics · 20/02/2019 19:43

Just found this thread! I'll be having surgery soon (don't know wheter it will be bypass or sleeve yet). Oh, i'm so excited to have found you all! Will be reading the thread thia night. Just checking in for now.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 20/02/2019 20:07

Rice and pasta can be a problem because they absorb liquid in the stomach and can swell. I find I need to be sick but it's usually just foam then burn like mad for about half an hour. It sounds weird but my nose runs when I have had enough. Even if it seems too small an amount you should stop. You can always eat a little more after half an hour if you really need to.

Fontofnoknowledge · 22/02/2019 20:25

Hey guys how are you all.. ??

I am write in the middle of the honeymoon period 🤣.. have recovered from the OP (Gastric Sleeve despite the thread title !) and am now 2 months and three Weeks post op. I haven't really had any problems (touch wood) except a bit of constipation which has given me a pile (ouch)..
That is such a small price to pay though because I have lost 47lbs !! Which means ;

No more high blood pressure
No more knee pain
Can walk MILES not just 100m
Have gone from size 22 clothes to 16
Have a sex life !!!
Feel fantastic.
People keep saying nice things to me which I never get bored of. 🤣🤣🤣..

Hope everyone post op is doing ok and everyone on the looooong wait is keeping the faith xx

Drops in! How is everyone?

Been 14 months now, BMI is 26 I weigh 68kgs. Can eat basically normally. Everything is pretty incredible really. I can now run 10 miles.

Also lost another 11 stone of dead weight....my husband! what a difference that made!

Hopes everyone is well!

Fontofnoknowledge · 14/07/2019 13:24

Hey everyone.. just checking in. It's now 7 months since my gastric sleeve. My BMI is 28. I am 12stone 8 from 18'9 at my largest. I swim, sail, ride and walk .. life has changed beyond measure - not least due to my improved self esteem and general happiness at being able to move again !

How are you all doing.
Interesting to hear about your relationship ending Sofabitch . I have found this is an incredibly common situation post Op.. and finding myself in a similar situation. I think I know why.

Obesity , societies relationship with obesity and ones own self esteem are so depressed , that you tend to feel worthless . Expect people to treat you badly. As you emerge from that fog and start to feel betterabout yourself. The inevitable compliments about how much healthier you look - and how you feel about yourself all improve self esteem and you come to realise that you DONT deserve a relationship with someone who doesn't treat you with the respect that you now have for yourself.. I get it completely and am not sure we will make it either. However - now I feel strong and happy enough not to be terrified of life on my own. Now it's 'shape up with your attitude or ship out' .. we will see !

I'm guessing this has fallen off most people's radar!

But just in case you're all still around.

How are you @fontofnoknowledge @CrabbityRabbit
@Oblomov18

I'm almost 2 years post op. Bmi 28 still 72kg. Have maintained for a year now and ran the great south run last month.

I can eat almost totally normal sized meals now. But my life style has totally changed. The biscuits are still sneaking in now. But it's all about moderation.

I'm well into my divorce. And so much happier. Have a new man etc.

I hope you're all doing well!

YorkshireMummyof1 · 22/11/2019 15:30

I’m just going to insert myself in here. I’m 18 months post sleeve and it’s amazing. I’m 8 days away from submitting my decree absolute and I also met the love of my life. He accepts me baggy skinny and all! My weight loss slowed down at the start of this year due to bad habits but we’re back on track BMI is 31
