Gastric Bypass in 2 months

fontofnoknowledge · 18/04/2018 07:44

I would like to know if anyone on here has had a Gastric Bypass. I have jumped through all the hoops and am now just waiting for surgery date which should be in the next 8 Weeks. I would like to hear from anyone who has had a Bypass or Sleeve . (Not a band it's a very different Operation) .
It appears to be a very taboo subject on MN - (I have even felt the need to name change) and despite there being hundreds of threads on the latest diet, there is surprisingly little about the only scientifically proven longterm sustainable weight loss treatment for those with obesity or morbid obesity.
I am after any advice for the immediate post op period and the process of moving from liquids to solids and any other advice really.

My bypass is 1 month from today, omg! I'm so excited to get started on the new phase of my life.

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 21/08/2018 21:36

Well done, sofagirl, so good to hear about your jeans, and how well you are doing.
I’d stopped losing weight but haven’t eaten since Saturday and have started dropping again (that’s the good news; you really don’t want to know the details of why I haven’t eaten, let’s just say it involved an abscess, an emergency op under general, and I’m not sitting down any time soon. Ouch).

Sofabitch · 22/08/2018 00:08

@TheBlessedCheesemaker Ouch! An abscess doesn't sound fun! I hope you're in less pain soon!!!

@sunshinewithabitofdrizzle good luck! I'd you need any tips for getting through the milk diet just shout!

@Mollie85 not long now! How are you getting on?

@fontofnoknowledge thank you! I'm so pleased. Even though in my head I feel The same size!

@CrabbityRabbit how are you now?

I really hope everyone else is doing well.

Sofabitch · 22/08/2018 00:09

@Darkestnight how are you doing? First couple of weeks can be so hard!

Mollie85 · 22/08/2018 18:36

Hey Sofa! Well - four more sleeps until my sleeve.
I’m down 13lbs on LRD
Surgery is next Tuesday Shock

Massive congrats on your size 16!!!!
I’m a 20 at the moment so hope to be where you are by Jan Grin

WiFi at hospital intermittent but will try to update in real time as oft as I am able :)

Sofabitch · 23/08/2018 12:49

How are you feeling?

I was a size 26 before so this is huge for me!

Darkestnight · 23/08/2018 22:17

Hi sorry not been on for a few weeks. I had my operation and all went well and recovery is good and healing nicely. Getting use to my sleeve and I'm no longer hungry and only on week two off my post op diet. Baby food texture till next week. So pleased I've had it done tho. From starting my liver shrinking diet which I was 121kg I'm now sitting at 112kg I'm so pleased it's really coming off now. Pre op I lost six stone on my own so all going well.

Sofabitch · 24/08/2018 09:00

That's amazing progress @Darkestnight I found despite not being hungry I still mentally wanted food in the first couple of months. Which was hard at times xx

My son got his GCSE results yesterday and he picked me up and spun me round in excitement... he never could have done that before!

Rosie1976mini · 24/08/2018 15:27

I had no idea there was a WLS thread on here! I have found my people.

I was sleeved in Edinburgh last December, best decision I have ever made (and I say that a person who has just thrown up part of their lunch)!

I have gone from 117kg at my heaviest to 77kgs just now - in the middle of a massive stall right now.

Sofabitch · 25/08/2018 07:42

Welcome @Rosie1976mini :-)

My weight loss nurse said 60% of excess weight lost is the average for the sleeve. And only 20% of patients loose 80% of thier extra weight... most people here seem to want to be a 'normal' weight though. I do wonder if we are setting the bar too high for ourselves.

My goal of 70 kgs would still place me in the over weight bmi category (28) yet would involve loosing 90% of my excess weight!... I'm recokoning that gives me less than a 5 -10% chance.. so I wonder if I'm setting myself up to fail? And Need to lower my expectations and increase my goal.

Mollie85 · 25/08/2018 14:26

Nice to hear from other sleepers!!

I fly to Gatwick in the red eye tomorrow (I’m in the Channel Islands) then on to Czech Republic. Medi-taxi at airport to take me to the clinic. Just packing at the moment.

Going there at 16st 10 having lost 14-16 or so pounds on pre-op ( it keeps going up and down)

I don’t feel nervous at the moment, but I am pretending that I’m off for a spa retreat for a week!

Surgery likely to be Tuesday with pre-ops on Monday.

Stupidly the thing I’m worried the most about is a catheter ... they said they don’t always put it in.

I have realistic expectations. I should weigh between 9.10 and 11 ish (if we go by the antiquated BMI chart), however, I was happy at 12.4 last time which put me into a 14 category and gave me a jawline and cheekbones Grin

Skinny isn’t the goal.
No diabetes, no asthma and no heart disease is the goal. Grin

If I can I’ll update in “real time” what tests and pre ops I’ve had, etc if anyone is interested x

Mollie85 · 25/08/2018 14:27

Sleevers not sleepers!

Sofabitch · 25/08/2018 15:02

@Mollie85 good luck. Do keep us updated !

I didn't have a catheter wasn't even mentioned as a possible option tbh

Mollie85 · 25/08/2018 19:35

Ah well then I’ve just burned my whole undercarriage with Veet for no bloody reason then... Blush
The plucked chicken look is not for me Biscuit

Suitcases all packed, defuzzed, passport in bag and taxi at 5.40 tomorrow... ready for this new chapter Grin

See you on the other side Wink

fontofnoknowledge · 25/08/2018 21:39

Really good luck and best wishes Mollie85, Mine isn't until December (despite the thread title 🤭)..so would love to read your posts.

Best of luck! Safe journey and pls keep us updated.
Sofa - if anyone on this thread gets to their goal weight, it will be you - you’ve done fab so far and I really believe you will get there.
My BMI now down from 39 to 31, and so looking forward to the elusive ‘overweight’ categorisation in maybe 2/3 weeks - will be huge for me as will be the first time I’ve not been obese since my first baby (and he’s now 6’3). Onwards and downwards...

Mollie85 · 26/08/2018 06:27

At the airport - not the best flyer so nerves are kicking in. 🤓 it’s only 45 mins to the UK. Then flying off to Czechia 🇨🇿
Thanks for all your support x

Sofabitch · 26/08/2018 09:55

Good luck Mollie!!!

I'm excited for you. Hopefully they give you the good drugs after ;)

I'm so determined. But yesterday...I caved on sweets! I ate 6 mini daim bars and 5 or 6 sweets! Still way less than before I guess. But I'm due on and that is the first time I've craved anything sweet!

Mollie85 · 26/08/2018 20:38

Had a heparin shot in my arm last night which hurt for about three mins after...chat with surgeon - op is going ahead today!! Nil by mouth ... woken by nurse who put cannula in and drew blood. Had dizzy reaction but they were fab. Now in bed waiting... will update when I can x

SusieQ5604 · 27/08/2018 06:12

I had this op in 2012 and lost 160 lbs. one of the best decisions of my life. Follow all aftercare directions. Exercise, even if it's just walking. Buy secondhand clothes as you lose or you won't be able to afford yourself. Enjoy!!

SusieQ5604 · 27/08/2018 06:27

I had to pay for my surgery in the US but it was so worth it. I have flat feet and they don't hurt anymore! Ever! I was 296 lbs, went down to 125 (way too thin) and am now 150. No more sleep apnea. No high blood pressure or pre-diabetes. I lost all my boobs but didn't want to have implants. My arms and legs are a bit wobbly but I feel so much better I don't care! I did have a tummy tuck to deal with the huge flap of excess skin. Again, so worth it. I was 52 when I had it done. I feel like I've added happy, active, healthy years to my life.

Sofabitch · 27/08/2018 08:01

Big day Mollie!!!

Did the surgeon speak good English?

What time are you going down..I didn't go until 5pm..it was the longest day

Mollie85 · 28/08/2018 07:29

Went down at 12 but had all my pre ops before so happened quite quickly.

I feel awful please tell me this goes x

Mollie85 · 28/08/2018 07:29

Surgeon has fab English - dr Cierny
