New thread for those using mfp to lose/maintain weight

Not2bObvious · 31/07/2017 05:11

Great to "see" you loli. Fantastic that you're maintaining your loss, sobering that it isn't the cure to all body insecurities as most of us might hope. I know exactly what you mean about the exercise, I walked/jogged on the spot for 45 mins the other night to increase my cal burn. I'm doing RH and yep it's tough to get the carbs in but I'm doing what I can and I'm much better with food, my body works better. I'm not sure what you want to do though, lose more weight or body fat or? I do think doing the weights and the exercise will help greatly but as you said could be a touch of body dysmorphia. And our bodies will never be same as before, once you've had babies.
Getting up now for my class, if I could go back to sleep I would and I'd go to a later class but I've been awake since before 4am sod it - I'll get it out of the way😩

OP posts:
Porcus · 31/07/2017 09:11

Caggie oh dear. It was only one day though so I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure you're back on track now Smile

Not loving your positivity and commitment to exercise! I'm trying to exercise more regularly but sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed as I work full time and have a toddler. I use a Fit bit so have been aiming do 10k steps a day and doing the occasional Jessica Smith fitness video.

Dawhead I've only set MFP to lose half a lb a week but because I'm so darn short,I only get 1270 (excluding exercise). I find it fairly easy during the week but more challenging in the weekend. I eat quite healthily but sometimes I just want a burger AND chips/scone(s) with jam & cream or a margaritas (or two. No more cos I'm a light weight)!

Welcome Cherry. I'm very new myself. Fantastic weight loss! I find it helpful to have a bottle of water on my desk at work and I make sure I finish at least one before I leave. I also keep another bottle on the kitchen counter which I fill each morning. Every time I go into the kitchen, I take a few sips.

Hope everyone had a great weekend

DawheadAwgusEeentock · 31/07/2017 10:31

Commiserations everyone on another Monday ugh Envy

Not I was thinking about your exercise this morning and I really can't say enough good things about it. The thing is, yes diet does help more with weight loss short-term, but exercise helps far more with overall health AND maintenance. It's such a positive thing you're doing. All I can offer is Flowers for the sleep problems - can you get any rest during the day? Hope the class went well.

caggie I'm parroting Not but 1 bad is just 1 bad day - and weekends are a curse for most of us. When you average it out over the week it will only be a blip and hardly register - it's more important that you stay on here and keep trying (and don't run away like I did Blush).

Loli so lovely to 'see' you again - I've often wondered how you are. Huge congrats on maintenance and keeping the fitness going. The fact you're aware and questioning whether you might have body dysmorphia is a brilliant step in itself - do you think it might be worth talking to someone about it? I still go for my 'maintenance' therapy sessions and it's amazing what can come up even after all this time.

Hi Cherry welcome Flowers. Wow that is great loss so far. Would you like sparkling water? That's mostly what I drink during the Summer and it just makes it a little less boring - I aim for similar to Porcus though and try to make sure I drink 6 glasses during work.

Porcus it sounds like your plan is great so far - a few of us here have FitBits too Grin. And we all suffer at the weekends that's for sure. You might have seen that I'm very (boringly) preachy about concentrating on averages instead, but it served me well last time. So if you can have one 'lean' day it can even out the weekend and allow us to have the 'naughty' stuff.

Leading me nicely on to joining you all in a calorie-laden Sunday - went out for dinner last night as expected to a Chinese. I've only been able to guess but (sorry Caggie more food talk Wink) I had crispy duck salad and egg fried rice with prawns and sauce that I've estimated at 1350 cals Blush. That was after having a KFC burger for lunch Blush. AND then came home and had an ice-cream and a G&T GinBlush. So finished at 2565 yesterday eek. Anyway, if I can stick to plan of 1100 today, that brings my average back down to 1450 which won't be too bad for week 1. Real 'unofficial' goal for this week was to stay off the choccies, so if I can survive 2 more days I'll actually have some faith in myself again.

Hope rest of Monday goes ok for everyone Flowers.

caggie09 · 31/07/2017 17:19

Thanks all, I am back on track. Its start of a new month tomorrow, so want it to be a good one and try and shift as many lbs as possible! Started July at 11st 5 and ending on 11st 1, so a good 4lbs lost. I'm one pound away from the first goal I set, so if I get this 1lb off I will have lost 1st 7 Grin Think I was annoyed with myself Sunday because I'm soo close to this first target I don't sabotage it. Just waiting for tea now, fresh fish with loads of veggies and have enough calories for a snack later on. Wink The past few days I'm been drinking 3litres of water a day. I feel brand new after yesterdays wobble.
Bring on August!

Not2bObvious · 31/07/2017 18:24

Great to hear you sound in better form caggie
Yes yes yes! New month, how exciting😬 Imagine if we were all like diet divas this month and kept out sh*t properly together dropping 1-2lb a week, we could be between 4-8lb down by September! In time for lovely swishy autumn clothes and knee high boots. Nice slim legs instead of sausages bet into boots😉 Nothing worst than calf overhang I reckon😂
Vvv tired but ontrack to stick to 1500, I'm closing the kitchen at 1500.

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 01/08/2017 06:01

Morning all, another early wake up but I did get a decent enough sleep so won't complain. Ok, another month and my official start weight is 11.8.4 - so the game is on!
Lying here trying to figure out what I'm going to do from an exercise perspective. I burned a bit over 2600 yesterday and it took some doing, my minimum target is 2200. Also need to get my water in better - I got distracted and drank too much coffee instead.
And that reminds me to say hi to cherry, you're v welcome, excellent loss so far - sorry for the late greeting. What I'd suggest in your case since you're currently vv low on fluids would be to gradually build it up. In addition to what you're drinking add in 1 glass in the morning when you wake, 1 before lunch,1 before dinner. That should bring you up to 1.5 litres. You can add another glass a day when you're used to that amount. Keep a note of it. You shouldn't wait to be really thirsty to drink, by then you're dehydrated. Drinking more water will re-engage your thirst as well. I really believe water helps with weightloss greatly and apart from anything it's just essential. One of my favourite suck it up sayings is 'you don't have to like it, you just have to do it'
So on that note, who's in on a Awesome August

OP posts:
DawheadAwgusEeentock · 01/08/2017 11:57

Wow ladies you're both sounding v positive - it's great Grin. I can't believe it's August already Sad where is the Summer going sigh.

Finished on 1190 yesterday - had a wobble in the afternoon and was desperate for something to snack on, so ended up making a tiny bit of homemade popcorn that only came to 60 cals. Felt hungry again last night but thank God there was nothing in the house.

Only on track for 990 today so if I'm peckish I can afford a protein bar later. I'm still not comfortable in this new routine IYKWIM; it still feels like I'm battling, but the chocolate cravings are easing that's for sure.

Take care everyone for rest of today Flowers.

Not2bObvious · 01/08/2017 17:34

Good Grief daw, no wonder you're struggling, you're starving yourself. I know you're working on averages, but really those kind of numbers are savage. I think you're being v hard on yourself, even mfp gives out when you try complete a day with under 1200 calories. Be a bit kinder to yourself.
Starving now, off to snaffle chicken and pasta, hmmm carbs 😉

OP posts:
caggie09 · 01/08/2017 18:30

I also believe water is a big help with weight loss, instead of snacking I sip water and it fills that void. I don't drink hot drinks or alcohol that often so my only choice is water and diet coke. I go through stages of drinking 2 litres a day, and then I forget Blush but my skin improves so much (spots and eczema don't pop up) and as Not said it is essential!

Ive kicked August of with a good start, it better last! Had three filling meals today, and have lots of room for a snack later. I love it when I feel like I actually have my shit together. Wink

Porcus · 01/08/2017 18:57

dawhead thanks for the advice- I often forget that I can check the daily average in MFP (I only use the app)! I don't know if I could have as lean a day as you've just had but something for me to try out

I forgot to say last time loli welcome back and it's great that you've maintained. Do you feel that you would be happier if you lost some more weight?

Not I would love to join you for Awesome August. I may have eaten a large bagel with a mountain of cream cheese. I've had to skimp but managed to make it work within the 1270 MFP has punished rewarded me with.

caggie Great you're back on track and all motivated. Please forward any spare motivation to me in case I get ambushed by more bagels Grin

Not2bObvious · 02/08/2017 12:08

Day 2 of AA (aka Awesome August😬) Down .2 of a pound to 11.8.2, did BC and 45 mins on the dreadmill running/walking. Feel pretty good this morning after that, bizarrely! Looks like I've already burned 1600 cals too so that's a great bonus. So so want to see 11.7 or under by Friday, fingers x'ed.
How's everyone else doing?

OP posts:
DawheadAwgusEeentock · 02/08/2017 16:52

Well done Not that's great again - love the "d"readmill Grin. 1600 cals by lunchtime is amazing.

Caggie well done too on having a great day yesterday!

Porcus it's great you were able to have a bagel (yummy) and still stick to 1270 - that's the only way to make this work for all of us, is to still build in our guilty pleasures somehow.

Not you're a wise woman (as usual) about my cals, because it all caught up with my yesterday. I was so starving, so talked H into going to the diner again. Had my chicken fillet burger and sweet potato fries again - usually I don't eat the burger bun and leave half the chips, but this time I ate the whole lot Blush. Then had an ice cream when I came home. It was the first time I felt full in ages - even better than the Chinese on Sunday night. So I guessed all that at 1280, bringing me to 1880 yesterday Sad.

BUT! All is not lost, because today was WI day and I'm back down to 67.2kg [10st 8ish] phew phew phew. On the scales that means a loss of 1.6kg, but realistically I'd say it's 1kg at most, as I had a lot of bloat last Wednesday. That was on a daily average of 1525. I'm so relieved; last night will probably catch up with me tomorrow but I've got a week to make amends again. Back to good behaviour today and coming in at 1200 exactly and I've also stocked up on some low-cal snacks in case I get the munchies again - we'll see can I manage to not eat them all at once Wink.

Onwards and downwards for all of us Flowers.

caggie09 · 02/08/2017 19:00

Good evening everyone, feels nice and positive on this thread.Grin
I'm finishing on 1490 calories today, been walking a lot today so that's burnt a few calories too. Well done Not and Daw on the weigh ins! I also have a stash of low calorie snacks, that i have occasionally ate all at once Blush
Porcus hope you the bagels didn't manage to ambush you!

As well as weighing myself i have started measuring myself too, see if i lose any inches. My waist is 33'' and my hips are 42.5''. Not focusing to much on that, just want to see if i do ''shrink''

Not2bObvious · 02/08/2017 19:56

Well done on the loss daw (and I'm well jel of your diner visit, would that be empty your pockets Eddie rockets😉) I'm finishing the day on just under 1800 and I'd say I'll burn 2500-2600 by the end of the day.
Great idea to do your measurements caggie, scales only shows one side of the story - must do that myself soon.

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 03/08/2017 07:08

Morning all, day 3 and now down to 11.7 - Fridays my official weigh in day so hoping to hang onto that. Kind of tired this morning and forcing myself to stay in bed, I'll exercise later but for now my knees need a rest (but it's a struggle!) Filled in my mfp, just need to stick to it. I have BC tomorrow morning and either parkrun or a class Saturday. Then out with my bestie Saturday night😬 Cue the dilemma of what to wear😩 I don't get out much and at my advanced age (early 40's, just about!) I suffer dreadfully with fear of chubby motherly mutton dressed as lardy lamb. No doubt I'll be "unwell" on Sunday so I'll have to allow room for a medicinal Chinese.
Think I'll have my brekkie in bed...

OP posts:
DawheadAwgusEeentock · 03/08/2017 09:49

Caggie measuring is a great idea and it's really motivating, I used to do it once a month when I was on a losing streak - my tummy was the place that lost the slowest - typical. Well done on a good day yesterday.

Not that's the one Grin rumbled haha. Although it's now "Rockin Joe's" here in the Whesht (and can you believe it - they're changing the name again to Shake Dog haha). We're bloody addicted because there are 2 of them within driving distance of us. That was a brilliant cal burn yesterday but WooHoo on the loss!! Well Done Flowers! I'm sure it will stay for tomorrow but I'll cross my fingers. It's nice to 'see' you having a lie-in - your exercise is so brilliant a little bit of indulgence is well deserved - and I bet you'll look fab on your night out at the weekend.

Stuck to 1200 yesterday and didn't find it too hard - only on course for 1015 today so I might sneak in a treat somewhere. One thing I notice is that I'm very cold lately all the time - don't know if it's coincidence or somehow related to eating less. Having lots of hot coffee to try to keep myself warm. Good luck for today ladies! Flowers

Not2bObvious · 03/08/2017 10:31

Loving the ER name changes, probably being hammered on franchise fees and decided to break away. I love love love diners, so have to avoid them haha. I'm cold too, in my case it seems to be linked to tiredness. I slept pretty well last night but I think the previous weeks bad sleep is still catching up with me.
Trying to think when or how I'll get a chance to do 30 mins exercise at a minimum. Might do the dreadmill after dinner - hinder my munching

OP posts:
caggie09 · 03/08/2017 12:37

You'll look lovely on your night out Not, lots of dancing will burn some extra calories with a cocktail in hand though Wine Hope the scales stay the same for WI in tomorrow.
I think ill measure monthly, not point doing it every single week. I think my hips are going to be the slowest to lose weight.
Anyway, ive had breakfast and lunch, thinking about have a jacket potatoe again for tea. Hopefully I should be on track again today, ive I don't demolish anymore rich tea biscuits. I had two after dinner and I have the taste of them in my mouth.

caggie09 · 03/08/2017 17:18

Im well and truly stuffed. Im on 1092 calories at the mo, but ill probably have a snack in front on the tv watching the soaps later on😆 But ill still be within my limit! Back to work tomorrow after a week off. Then it will be weigh in when i get back, so ill check in tomorrow night to let you know if i hit this 11st!

Not2bObvious · 03/08/2017 17:43

I wish I was well & truly stuffed caggie,I'm having a can't be filled day😩 Ho hum, will ride it out. Keeping everything crossed for a good weigh in tomorrow, hope you get your 11

OP posts:
Porcus · 03/08/2017 19:00

Awesome August it is not for me at the moment. Work was awful today, DC took Ill as soon as we got home so when my normally supportive DH suggested burgers for dinner....
500 calories over for the day.
I then thought I'd switch to maintenance for a day. MFP gives me 1580 for maintenance! I'm still over my maintenance goal.
Oh well. Will have to avoid burgers and bagels for the rest of the week and get some extra exercise inGrin

Enjoy your night out Not you will look fab Smile

Good luck with the weigh in Caggie

Porcus · 03/08/2017 19:03

Just remembered I forgot to add the chips I ate with burger into MFP. I didn't eat too many but now ending the day on 750 calories over.

Not2bObvious · 04/08/2017 07:56

Happy Friday all!
porcus, I hope dc is ok now? A burger and chips isn't too bad and a necessary evil sometimes. Done now, today's a new day.
Scales is at 11.7.2, so around .8 down from last Friday which is in keeping with the deficit I managed. Saddo that I am I decided to keep note of my food in vs calories out. It's vv clear my weekends are the cause of the slow loss and my holidays are the cause of my fast gains😩 So again at the gates of gluttony. I'm going to work v hard to not lose all plot this long weekend (is it a BH in the U.K. too?) To start the day off well, BC and 45 minute run/jog all done
Bloody wrecked

OP posts:
MustBeThin · 04/08/2017 10:32

Keep up the good work everyone Grin

Been 10st 6 for the last 5 days Grin I've cut the cheese out and stopped sticking at 10st 7. Bloody cheese.

Hoping to get to get 10st 4 before 2nd week of September when I go on holiday so I've got some wiggle room. Then when I get back I'd like to get to 10st 4 again before Xmas so I can indulge again.

My new night snack instead of cheese is those hartley jelly pots, between 2 and 8 cals each depending on the flavour. I'm still eating but it's not going to make the scales stick or go up. Grin

Not2bObvious · 04/08/2017 11:23

Have you given up the Jaffa cakes must, that was you wasn't it? Well done on breaking the 10.7, you've so little to lose I reckon it's like 3-4lbs for most people. I'm trying to hold out until 12.30 for my lunch.

OP posts:
