Sugar free February

Hello.

I have seen that there is a thread about sugar free January and I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me for a sugar free February?

I am really good all day and then at five o'clock something happens and I turn into the Cookie Monster and am forced to eat as much as I can as quickly as I can...this evening alone I have eaten one cupcake, two scones and a slice of cake...seriously what is wrong with me!?!?

I am not sure whether it should be carbs or just sugary treats etc...I think carbs may be a step too far.
So my plan is to give this a whirl...please join me for some moral support.

That should've said I have no will power would eat whole box.bloody phone

987flowers · 08/02/2017 13:27

I've just googled them. They sound nice!

Well I've had my cuppa and eaten no biscuits so I've won today! It's on my days off I struggle, at work there's rarely time to eat so it's not such an issue!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/02/2017 14:15

Other option maybe a fruit or herb tea as biscuit dunk in that may well be vile

muddypuddled · 08/02/2017 14:26

I've done really well today so far, low sugar cereal for breakfast, ham, cheese and beetroot sandwich for lunch and I staved off temptation at Costa and just had a plain coffee when my son had a piece of chocolate tiffin! But now I'm really craving something sweet. I don't know how to get past it. Any ideas? It's taking all my willpower not to go and get a piece of chocolate right now! For those who have gone completely cold turkey do you think that's working better than going low/no added sugar?

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/02/2017 15:08

muddy I not been sugar free that long, but I can't have even a little bit or I can't stop.
Plain nuts help me.

AFingerofFudge · 08/02/2017 15:23

hi muddy it's day 8 for me and I have cut out all sweets, chocolate, biscuits, cake etc. So far I have resisted all temptation BUT I am not finding it any easier. I have been out for lunch today and now I'm home I am really craving something sweet. I have eaten a pear but that hasn't done it for me. It's a case of one hour at a time here for me rather than one day at a time. Sorry that probably hasn't helped you but at least you know you're not alone with the cravings. It's like a drug!!

987flowers · 08/02/2017 19:03

Been googling recipes and found a davina McCall recipe for digestive biscuits but it has 150g maple syrup in so not sure it's much better really!

It's confusing...

AFingerofFudge · 09/02/2017 18:43

So how is everyone else getting on? I'm still craving, or at least feeling like I'm missing something. But something really weird just happened. I needed to do a quick tea tonight because of various things on, so I fried up some lardons and chucked a pot of fresh tomato and basil sauce and a load of pasta.
The sauce was unbearably sweet!!! I've never noticed it before but I couldn't eat it as it was so sweet. Shock

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/02/2017 18:55

afinger that's impressive.means your taste buds are adaptingSmile
I gave up once before and found chocolate tasted like sweet grease til I got depressed and ate it anyway, two days later hooked up again
I'm really struggling with PMS.try succumb just to white bread but I really could kill if kids ate any sweetsSad
Today-greek yogurt,sunflowers seeds and blueberries
-2 white rolls with tuna and avocado
-handful cashews and bite D's banana
Dinner probably be lots green veg, cheese and pasta

SerialReJoiner · 09/02/2017 19:31

Oh yes, afinger. Lots of sauces are horribly sweet. Blech.

Badgerlady · 11/02/2017 13:42

How's everyone doing? Hope the weekend hold many sugar free treats for all.

Managed to resist office cakes on Thursday and Friday. I will need to bring something in next week (I have an office where the culture is to celebrate-with-cake and I've got a project which completes at the end of the week). Do I just buy a cake I won't eat or try and find a savoury alternative??

Also haven't weighed myself since starting. Planning to do so tomorrow or perhaps Monday morning.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/02/2017 15:34

Tough call*badgerlady" personally I bought it I'd be face first in it!!
On a savoury note cheese scones?I make cheese and root veg muffins, but they better warm with soup
Good luck and well done resisting!!(impressed)

SerialReJoiner · 11/02/2017 17:56

Buy a flavour you don't like. For me that would be coffee or a black forest gateau. Chuck the leftovers and don't go near it when it's out!

Otherwise a cheese and fruit platter would be a good option imo.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/02/2017 18:17

Hmmm.cheese and fruit.yum

AFingerofFudge · 12/02/2017 19:03

aaarrrrgggghhh!! day 12 here, and I've just lost it and had a slither of chocolate cake. Couldn't help it (it was literally a slither), It's not feeling any easier, which is why I just cracked and had a bit. Now feeling a bit upset, I hope I haven't blown it!! Sad

SerialReJoiner · 12/02/2017 19:45

Aw, Finger, don't worry. It's not the end of your hard work. It was only a slither afterall. Flowers

AFingerofFudge · 14/02/2017 14:53

Well I'm hanging on in there by my fingernails 😬 I am still mostly sugar free (I had a small biscuit yesterday and today a v small piece of chocolate). Have decided that if it's between completely losing it and bingeing, or having tiny bits to get me through, then I'm having the tiny bits. Still so much better than my old habits.
How's everyone else doing?

ContraryToPopularBelief · 15/02/2017 10:31

Hi all. I've been lurking here all month.

I decided to give up sugar on 4th Feb - for me that meant all obvious sugar, sweets, biscuits, cakes, juice, most cereal etc. I'm still eating fruit and carbs.

I found the beginning really easy and was quite smug. I still haven't cracked and I am not craving things but it is getting harder to resist temptations like when the kids want a biscuit. Or we've had a birthday in the house so there's cake EVERYWHERE.

Anyway today and yesterday (days 10 and 11), I have felt soooo sluggish and sleepy. It's hard as I would always combat this with Coke and sugary treats.

honeyroar · 17/02/2017 23:37

Hello everyone. I've been doing no sugar for a month and been on the Jan sugar free page. I've lost 8lbs, which isn't tons, but have lost inches, particularly round my waist. I reckon I've dropped a dress size. And I'm mostly really enjoying it.

Anyway I popped on here to say why don't we all join up? It's useful to speak to more people..
