I was on a beclomethasone dipropionate nasal spray and asthma inhaler Smillas. However, I was taking the nasal spray at much, much higher doses than is recommended over-the-counter, and for over 2 years without a break, so very different to how most people use it. I had sinusitis that had become chronic as a result of under-treated allergies, so options were limited. One of the side effects of the sinusitis was post nasal drip, and I could constantly taste the spray, so I'm sure quite a bit of it was ending up in my system. I only used the asthma inhaler at low doses and intermittently, so pretty sure it wasn't that.

So don't be too discouraged. Apparently beclomethasone dipropionate is one of the worst nasal steroids for being absorbed into the system, so it might be worth having a chat with the pharmacist/nurse and asking for one proven to be less bioavailable.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 04/05/2016 20:04

Thanks again for the info, Sits.

Hay fever got so bad last night that I couldn't sleep and was miserable, took double the daily dose of antihistamine which I thought would be fine, but DP wrote to me from work to check I hadn't had a stroke after I evidently became convinced he had asked me something about the alarm clock that necessitated a sleeptalking, somewhat irritated attempt at explaining something to do with the spinal cord and ascending nerve tracts around the level of the medulla oblongata(?!?!). The worst bit is that I was awake enough to keep responding to his repeated attempts at understanding wtf I was on about, and got more and more exasperated at him. I thought he was being stupid at the time but now realise he was really quite confused and alarmed by what is not normal behaviour for me (and clearly not a subject relevant to the alarm clock issue...).

Duly marched to the pharmacy once he got home and got a fluticasone nasal spray and some antihistamine eye drops I can take alongside the regular dose of cetirizine. Feeling drowsy, got the munchies too but reckon the latter is down to the terrible sleep. Ho hum. Confused

MsColouring · 04/05/2016 20:24

Feeling quite positive today. Scales finally seem to be moving - they seemed to be stuck for a few days and now suddenly I was 2lb down this morning. Feel I've eaten really well the last few days - managing to reach my protein goals and stay with my carbohydrate goals and still managing to stay within my calorie limit. Completed week 5 day 3 of C25k today as well which was the first solid 20 minute run. Belts are looser and colleagues are commenting on my weight loss so all good.

SitsOnFence · 05/05/2016 09:52

Sorry you're suffering so much Smillas Sad I can't take second/third gen antihistamines as, believe it or not, I'm allergic to them. The irony. However, I found the nasal sprays far, far superior to Piriton at controlling symptoms, so look forward to feeling much better within a week.

I am currently trying to say sanguine in the face of a weight plateau. I've been stuck at 9st 12.4lbs for over a week now (actually, it went UP by 2lbs at one point, but dropped back over the next 2 days). I've been religiously weighing, measuring and recording everything that goes near my mouth, watching the macros and keeping very active (not eating back exercise calories), oh, and my rings no longer come off my fingers, so I know it's just water, but frustrating still. My period is due around the 15th, so might be hormonal. I'm hoping for a sudden drop like MsColouring

Mothersruin75 · 05/05/2016 13:59

Smilias your hay fever sounds grim. I hate hay fever, I escape the first part but must be allergic to whatever appears in June as I can guarantee that first week in June my nose starts running, eyes watering and my inner ears get itchy.

So May the 4th was not with me - 2lbs on yesterday!!! I was really hacked off, I'd been so good even when we had the day with friends I ate and drank much much less than normal. I have a stinking cold so I'm holding on to the hope it's that that's causing my body to cling on to all the fat!

MustBeThin · 05/05/2016 18:50

Quick update not read through the posts yet! Hope everyone's well.

Scales are showing an overnight 3lb drop taking me to 2st 1lb loss. Shock In a way I'm happy because the weights gone and I've hit the 2 stone mark but I think the 3lb loss is due to me being pretty stressed as well. I have been eating at meal times but not finishing all of my meals. I had only lost 1lb in 16 days before that though. I haven't logged the weight loss just in case and I will see what the scales say tomorrow.

plumstone · 06/05/2016 08:13

Morning all, so delighted that the aversion to "below10.11" seems to have gone and a solid 10.8 this morning that is one pound shy of 2 stone. IT would seem that MFP actually works Grin so pleased that I kept plodding on for the three weeks that nothing happened, usually that would be me head first into a pizza!!!

On that subject M&S are doing wood fired ultra thin individual pizzas with anything between 380 and 500 calories, the prosciutto and fig was lovely and I think 385 calories, I loved it and it may well become my Friday night treat!!!!

Away for a week for work so that will be interesting!!!!!

Mothersruin75 · 06/05/2016 11:01

Well done plumstone! Plus thank you for the M&S pizza tip sounds delicious. Might be our Sunday treat.

plumstone · 06/05/2016 11:21

thank you so delightedly chuffed with myself - only me and the boss in the office today and I don't think he would "get" it Grin

Pizza is awesome!!!

PandaBear30 · 07/05/2016 18:44

Not posted for a few days but still plodding along. Weigh in day on Monday. Hoping to be down a lb or two. Hope everyone's enjoying the gorgeous weather.

Well done to all those that have had losses. Thanks for the pizza recommendation plum will definitely be taking a trip to M&S during the week, really like some of their count on us meals so will stock up.

MustBeThin · 07/05/2016 20:40

Hello Grin Hope everyone's well. Well done on the loss Plum

So after my bizarre overnight 3lb loss on Thursday I've been 1lb up from that the last 2 days. I didn't record the loss on Thursday as it seemed too much so just recorded it yesterday as a 2lb loss which is more realistic. So I now weigh 11st 7, I've lost exactly 2 stone since the 4th January Grin I really need to buy some new clothes now. All of my jeans and tops are way too big.

MsColouring · 08/05/2016 10:24

Morning. 3lb loss this week so I'm happy. Managed to comfortably fit into a pair of work trousers I hadn't worn for a while on Friday. Completed week 6 day 2 c25k this morning so feeling good. Did go over my calories yesterday as we had dinner round a friend's and also had a bit of a hungry day - but didn't go mad.

Lots going on at the moment - SATs, doing a job application and got reading to do for a course as well as my usual workload so trying my best not to sit and eat at the computer which is what I used to do when I was busy.

Well done to everyone on their losses.

MustBeThin · 08/05/2016 11:48

Well done MsColouring

Another 1lb down today so I weigh 11st 6. Grin

plumstone · 08/05/2016 18:44

Hi All - well done to all the losses out there - Not sure If the 10.8 will be seen again - in the US for work and OMG the portion sizes!!! was out for breakfast this morning, asked for an omelette with ham and spinach - it arrived with, lots of cubed fried potatoes, and a toasted buttered muffin - however I won't require fed again till this evening!!!! Didn't eat the potatoes and only half the muffin - I forgot how big the potions are - food is everywhere in this place.

Aim till I get home is keeping with the water and going to try and stay off the carbs, and go with the protein and salad option - also they offer butter and sour cream as condiments with EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!

PandaBear30 · 09/05/2016 13:34

Well done Must and Colouring great losses. Another 1lb off for me, thought I'd have lost more as I had a pretty good week. Oh well better than nothing.

Good luck plum on sticking to plan so hard not to eat all the extra stuff if it's on your plate already.

MustBeThin · 09/05/2016 17:40

Well done in the loss Panda

1lb up today but it's TOM so not concerned. Also bought 2 pairs of jeans in a size 12 from M&S ShockGrin I'm not a 12 in any other shop so I obviously had to buy them hahaha. They are the high waisted Per Una jegging ones.

PandaBear30 · 10/05/2016 17:23

That's great Must so nice to see the clothes sizes coming down as well as the scales. I'm half a stone heavier than you, hope I'll be fitting in to size 12's soon.

Good day for me. B -porridge and fruit. L - soup, small bread roll and apple. D - chicken rice and veg. S - highlights hot chocolate.

Very quiet on here at the moment, hope everyone's well.

SitsOnFence · 10/05/2016 20:06

Well done on the losses everyone, and well done for walking away from restaurant food plum. So hard to do. I'm sure I would be enormous if I lived in the states!

I have some good news of my own too; the scales finally started to move again, and I've now lost a stone since starting! I'm so relieved pleased.

Ok, so I'm 99% certain that at least 3lbs of that is water weight, but still, after spending the past 2 years feeling rather helpless as my weight slowly crept up, it's such a relief to be back in control. I already look so much younger.

3lbs more to my interim goal, and then probably only another 9 to 12lbs until I'm back to my old size.

gentlydownthestreamm · 11/05/2016 13:17

SitsonFence, Must and Panda - well done on the losses! Great news from all.

I'm not doing so well in general. It's been a month since I started using MFP and 'dieting' and after a nice initial drop, my weight has still been very up and down since then, with little consistent loss.

It's not like the last time I did this (a couple of years ago) where the scales were literally going down every single time I weighed myself.

I think partly it's been because, although I've been 'good' four days a week, there have generally been three days a week (every week since starting) where I've had guests, or been away from home, or had special events which has resulted in a lot of extraneous eating and drinking!

Apart from that I'm not sure why it's been so hard for me to lose as it was so easy last time and I haven't been doing anything radically different as far as I can remember.

I think I need to push harder on 'normal' days to stay as low on calories as possible (and not just eat up towards my limit because I can) to account for the weekend / 'red letter' days where I want to be able to enjoy myself a bit more. Because I have similar stuff going on nearly every weekend until July!

Today:

Breakfast: None
Lunch: Falafel, houmus and bulgar wheat salad, with a tin of mackerel
Dinner: Red kidney bean curry with an egg and basmati rice

...that totals at 1000 calories, will probably have a few squares of chocolate and a biscuit to bring me up to about 1200 total. Plus going to work out (Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30) when I get home.

Onwards and upwards!

SitsOnFence · 11/05/2016 19:49

Your lunch and dinner sound yummy gently and good luck with the Ripped workout (I've heard it's vicious!) Aside from staying generally active I haven't yet started any proper exercise. Whilst I haven't found sticking under 1,200 kcals to be that difficult, I do feel like I'm running on empty energy wise. I tend towards low carb/low sugar, which may be why. When I get to 9st 7lbs I'm going to set MFP to lose weight at a slower rate, which I'm hoping will give me the extra energy I need to do some proper daily exercise.

MsColouring · 11/05/2016 21:11

Gently, when life is busy, could you just think about maintaining weight rather than losing? That is still an achievement.

I have repeated last week and looked like I was losing nothing for a few days then magically lost 2lb. Done my c25k week 6 run 3 which I'm feeling good about. Got my ds's birthday this weekend followed by dss's birthday on Monday so may be hard to avoid the unhealthy stuff for a few days.

Sits, I'm thinking the same as you - when I am back within my bmi, I think I will reset mfp to lose 1lb a week instead of 2. Can only keep going on 1200 calories for so long.

Mothersruin75 · 12/05/2016 12:28

Hello! Well done on all the losses everyone, great reading them.
I lost 2lb so whilst it's a loss it was the 2lb I'd put on the week before. So I'm 12st3 now. I weigh myself on our jazzy Fitbit scales which are downstairs, I weighed myself on our cheap, very old, on their way out scales and was 11st 13. I was so happy to see 11 it's given me motivation to carry on. I'm ignoring the fact they are very temperamental and tomorrow might be telling me I'm 15st.

NewYearNewNickname · 12/05/2016 22:30

Hi everyone, can I join please. I have been using mfp since the beginning of the year. I logged nearly every day until the beginning of March and lost 11lbs and reached the goal I had set myself of being under 10st before Easter. Since then I have maintained, weighing consistently between 9st 12 - 10st. I am chuffed to have maintained but I do want to lose a bit more. Weighed exactly 10st on Monday morning and I have been sooo good this week but I am visiting a friend at the weekend and she is suggesting lunch and dinner out on Sat so my good work this week may be about to all go out the window!!
I am going on holiday on the 27th and really want to be 9st 10 by then so that I can relax happy in the knowledge that if I put on a few pounds it's OK.

Hoping that this thread along with mfp will give me the motivation to crack it!!

gentlydownthestreamm · 12/05/2016 22:53

Thanks Sits and MsColouring. I don't really want to aim for maintaining yet - I think I just have to go harder-core during the week to offset the weekends where it's going to be really difficult to do things 'properly' over the next few weeks. It's worked OK for me this week, I do find it hard sticking to 1200 - 1300 calories, but it's somewhat easier if I tell myself it's to enable me to feel freer at the weekend.

Welcome NewYearNewNickname, sounds like you're doing great! Hope you get to your goal. I am also motivated by an upcoming holiday, and have a very similar weight goal to you! I have a bit longer to get there though, I'm going away at the start of July.

Today:

Breakfast: None
Lunch: M&S Goat cheese, beetroot and lentil salad, half a pot of M&S green soup
Snack: 3 ginger biscuits
Dinner: Pasta with homemade tomato, mushroom and bacon sauce, rocket salad, small piece cheese
Dessert: Small natural yoghurt with squeeze of honey, couple squares dark chocolate

= 1300 calories. No time for a work out today. Am going to try to get up early to do some exercise tomorrow, as I then have guests here for a few days, so it's going to be hard to fit it in, plus there's going to be a fair amount of wine drunk!

plumstone · 13/05/2016 11:23

Morning All - back from work trip which was work, US sized meals twice a day - no lunch and not enough water - calculated that I was 1 litre per day and then two 8 hour flights and AF arrived half way through the last flight - Result a fantastic 6 pounds up on last week - we are drawing a bright red, fluid retentive, dehydrated line under that and moving on and down Grin I am hoping that it is just AF and water retention and I will see it all off by next week - the eternal optimist here.!!!!

Have a great weekend!!
