Good to hear that everyone is staying on course.

I'm glad you like the teas Ready, I've always found them to have a bit more actual flavour than other fruit teas.

Yesterday went well for me.
Breakfast was coffee with coconut cream and a slice of sweet potato quiche thing.
Lunch was shredded beef in cherry bbq sauce (another recipe from Nom Nom Paleo) and a pile of broccoli.
Dinner was another wedge of quiche and a massive salad.

My low point was cutting up cheese for my DD's lunch. I would have sold my soul at that point for some cheddar but I did resist!

The amount of cooking is insane and I would seriously struggle if I wasn't at home all the time. Much respect to those who have to function outside!

Pengweng · 08/01/2016 09:43

Yesterday (day 6 for me) was horrible!! I opened the biscuit tin at least 4 times wanting to shove them all in my face but i resisted and ate an apple instead. I think it's because the DC were being really cranky and being stressed out makes me eat and even though i know this it's still really hard not too. So far today I am much better.

And i have just made these for my breakfast/lunch today. Though instead for her spice mix I have just used salt, pepper and some sage. They are pretty yummy.

And i am making this for dinner but with added mince for extra protein.

Readysteadyknit · 08/01/2016 10:48

Well done for resisting the biscuit tin Peng! I have nakd bars for similar emergencies. Hopefully your DC will be in a better humour today.

Thanks for the links - I'm going to give the scotch eggs a go - they seem reasonably breakfast-like. I find breakfast hard - I couldn't face eating my leftover steak and veg this morning and had scrambled egg and tomato instead. I bought the nom nom paleo app today which has some good recipes

Bestbees · 08/01/2016 19:47

Well day five you have been a bastard!

Banging headache and feel exhausted and achy. I have had no patience with my children and yelled an enormous amount for which I am ashamed ofBlush

Stuck with compliant food but ate too much to deal with the stress. And I knew I wasn't hungry but did it anyway! Been very thirsty today too. Hoping this doesn't last.

Going to a friends bday party tomorrow afternoon which I have prepared some crudités, guacamole and nuts for so I don't cave and eat all the cake. Will be eating out tomorrow so that will be a challenge.

Peng it sounds like we have had some similar feelings! Hope today went better for u.

Anyone else suffering?

Snazapoo · 08/01/2016 20:15

This might help you feel a bit better Bees

SuperwormTheThird · 08/01/2016 20:59

I'm on day 6 but definitely in 'kill all things' mode....

Snazapoo · 09/01/2016 19:41

How is everyone doing?

Yesterday was ok except I was really tired.
I forced down scrambled eggs with spinach and shallots for breakfast along with my usual coconut coffee.
Lunch was roast butternut squash soup and salad. I had friends round and I looked on in envy at their bread. I didn't mention I was doing the Whole30. I've found that people can be quite sneery, especially since its the new year.
Dinner was shredded beef and salad. I was exhausted and too tired to cook. I made my daughters caramel hot chocolate but I didn't want any so that's something.

Today has been Kill All The Things for me. I woke up feeling like I'd been battered in the night. Everyone is annoying me today.
I skipped breakfast as I was late to drop DD1 and dancing and I felt rough all morning. Lunch was soup and salad again.
Dinner was wild venison burgers using lettuce leaves as the bun. They were really good and everyone enjoyed them.

Bestbees · 09/01/2016 20:08

Snazapoo, I hope tomorrow is better for you. The burgers sounds great, I am looking forward to trying lettuce instead of buns. Making fajitas tomorrow with the same principle. I read the whole30 timeline which reassured me so that for posting it!

For what it's worth I feel so much better today, day 6. Had a headache this morning But took some pain killers. Had fruit and nuts for breakfast, eggs, kale and sweet potato chips for lunch. I went to s party this afternoon but took crudite and guacamole and nuts and stuck to those and herbal tea. Didn't eat the cake! I wasn't really hungry, but wanted to nibble socially and actually wasn't tempted by the junk food snacks at all. For dinner we were in a pub, but sensibly had steak and prawn salad with vinagerette. Feel really pleased with myself and surprised I stuck to it. The next aim for me is to cut down on the snacking.

Super worm have you survived?

Readysteadyknit · 09/01/2016 21:37

Sorry to hear you've had a rough couple of days Snaz and that some people are being sneery. When you explain the diet, it does sound quite extreme to most people. I'm lucky that DD and DS (no DP to worry about) are being really supportive. DD is at uni so is giving long distance support but DS is really enjoying some of the meals. I did pulled pork tonight (16 hours in the slow cooker!) which was really good. Another protein salad for lunch. Somewhere suggested using the sushi seaweed as a wrap so I am going to try that as it would make quite a portable lunch for work.

bees I'm really impressed with your willpower - I think I would struggle in a restaurant or at a party so am just going to avoid going out throughout January.

SuperwormTheThird · 09/01/2016 22:51

Hi everyone, glad you're all surviving! I am too - just! Today has been awful. I'very felt really ill and exhausted all day and had an upset stomach. Not sure if it's carb flu or a bug. I've been hungry but not felt like eating much. Breakfast was nuts and raisins plus half a banana, lunch a little bit of leftover chicken with spinach and walnuts and then tea (stomach had settled) was sausages (compliant) with some sweet potato, carrot and parsnip rotis and veg.

Hoping for a better day tomorrow. Well done everyone. Snaz, the burgers sound a good idea. Best bees, I'm impressed at you eating out.

SuperwormTheThird · 10/01/2016 19:32

Good evening!
I'm glad to say I'm feeling much more human this evening! How is everyone else doing? Have we all done a week now?

Best bees - when you ate out did you ask lots of questions about the food on the menu or just assume that it was okay? I dread being a fussy customer!!

Today I had kale, potatoes and a bit of pancetta (sp?) for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and tea was salmon with garlic and cashews, courgette noodles and roast squash/sweet pots/carrots.

Does anyone else feel like they are eating too much fat? I know you're meant too. My dh is worrying that I'm going to give myself a heart attack! I also think I'm eating potato too often.

Now I must confess to breaking a whole30 rule...I went into the cupboard where the scales are hidden for something and curiosity got the better of me. But I appear to have lost over 6lb! To be fair I stuffed my face for the couple of days before so I was probably a bit up on normal when I started, but still.
I'm a bit chuffed. Although obviously deeply ashamed of breaking the rules ;)

Hope you're all doing well and not suffering too much.

Bestbees · 10/01/2016 19:38

Glad you have lots of support ready. Dh is pretty good but has decided to eat 'normally' again. However he said even doing it for a week has been helpful with reminding him about good choices and focusing on he best food possible for our health. Sorry you're findin people sneery snaz. Surely it's their insecurities speaking.

How are you feeling super worm? Was it carb flu or a bug?

A good day here. Lots of energy and no cravings. Scrambled eggs with kale and sweet potato for breakfast, soup, crudités and dip for lunch, fajita chicken with lettuce and guacamole. Been swimming with toddlers and for a run!

Focus for last week for me was to get to grips with the plan and survive! This weeks aim is to focus on portion sizes and avoid snacking if possible, apart from my evening snack which I know I cannot do without at we eat at 5 usually!

Pengweng · 11/01/2016 10:25

Thanks for the tip about nakd bars. I have ordered a few with my next shop (morrisons) so i can keep them for emergencies or if i don't have time for lunch etc. I have been trying not to snack too much but when the girls have dinner at 5 it's really temping to eat their leftovers.

I can not do the no weighing myself thing. I need to keep myself in check and make sure i'm not eating too many nuts and dates and actually gaining weight lol. I have lost 5lbs and i'm on day 10.

And for a NSV (non scale victory) even though I have been getting up at 5.45AM (URGHHHHHH) to work out before the DTs get up at 6.30 I am not feeling exhausted mid afternoon.

I also think that no dairy is helping my IBS a lot. I've not have any stomach aches or other issues for over a week. So i think I may have to make that a permanent part of my diet. Sad

It's exciting to hear how well everyone is getting on. I'm hoping to make this a whole365 (apart from exceptional circumstances) so hearing good things from others is very inspiring.

I went out for the day yesterday and it was alright if not exactly exciting foodwise. I made sure I had a large filling breakfast before I went and then had stir fried garluc veg and roast pork belly for lunch. It was fine but I did envy my friend's dim sum.

Today has been a bit odd as all the gas has been cut off to our village. So no heating or cooking for us. I've ordered take away for the girls and I'm having tuna salad. Hmm

Bestbees · 11/01/2016 19:36

Ladies you tempted me and I weighed myself! 3lb down so a bit disappointed really! However NSV I do have more energy and digestion is better. Like you snaz I feel like I want to keep it up as it is all good food.

Perhaps I need to cut portion sizes, what size meals are people eating?

Readysteadyknit · 11/01/2016 19:51

Youn're doing better than me Best. - I've only lost 2lbs but my trousers feel a lot looser.

Pengweng · 12/01/2016 11:15

I haven't really been restricting portion size but I am stopping eating when full and normally i would just finish what's on my plate. Now I save it for lunch the next day. I'm trying to eat slower too.
I also have 40lbs to lose so I am aware that it will slow down as i lose more.

Any weight loss is great but the point is to feel better so that's a win best

Snazapoo · 13/01/2016 06:27

I have 50lbs (I blame the children) to lose which is why I'm trying to cut fruit too but I'm not restricting my portions yet.

Having no way of cooking was quite testing but luckily our local Indian does lots of compliant curry so DH picked one up for me. Curry is a good option if you want to eat out as it's cooked with ghee and has lots of vegetables. As long as you pick the right one else of course!

Yesterday went well enough. I had cold curry for breakfast Blush and then I was full all day so I didn't eat lunch. Lots of people who follow a paleo diet drop down to 2 meals a day. Dinner was bolognaise sauce with cabbage. I made it with chorizo and red wine vinegar and it was delicious. I actually think it was nicer than my normal one.

Today I'm hoping to read through the Whole30 book again and get some new recipes to try.

SuperwormTheThird · 13/01/2016 09:27

Hi all, sounds like you're all doing great.
Is your gas back on now Snaz? I hadn't thought about takeout curry being compliant, I'll look into that.

It's good that everyone has lost some weight but also good that we're all feeling better. I think it probably was 'carb flu' that I was suffering from at the weekend. I felt fab on Monday full of energy, had a dip yesterday (pmt? ) but feeling lively again today. For me that's as important as the weight loss as I've been feeling exhausted for years.

Still not having much luck persuading the DCs to join in. Made the chicken balls from the book last night but they weren't impressed (to be fair, made with turkey, they weren't that great).
My new discovery is spaghetti squash, bought ready in tubs from tesco. It's a brilliant alternative to pasta.

SuperwormTheThird · 13/01/2016 09:29

Oh I meant to add: Thai soup for breakfast. I'm converted. Thank Snazapoo! !

SuperwormTheThird · 13/01/2016 09:30

Thanks

Bestbees · 13/01/2016 19:02

Hi!

Snaz and penguin, thanks for sharing how much you would like to lose. I would like to lose about 10lb so actually feel 3lb is good.

I am feeling really good! Not tempted by rubbish food and have good energy levels. I think I am learning that I need a really good breakfast, but the other meals are less important and I am definately less hungry in the evenings. Came home from work today looking forward to going for a run which is not like me at all. Hoping that this will be something I will keep up except for special occasions.

Super worm I don't think I have a chance in hell of getting mine away from cheese wraps, but I do think a focus on upping protein and less carbs is a good thing. Might try chicken as a snack for them rather than crackers!

Snazapoo, takeaway curry! Brilliantly! Might have to get one this weekend. Hope u have some gas back?

Hope everyone is well x

Bestbees · 16/01/2016 11:10

Ladies, have you all abandoned me!? I'm still going. Made that quiche recommended up thread which was yummy!

B x

SuperwormTheThird · 16/01/2016 12:21

I'm still going Bestbees. Getting fed up of cooking but feeling good.
Withstood the pizza and snacks at a family get together last night. Took my own jersey chicken and salad and I was really superseded not to be tempted by the pizza!
