Anyone starting this?

I've got the weekend to prepare (mentally!!) and then officially start on Monday.

Anybody care to join?

Good morning!

I'm feeling very positive about starting today. I've struggled with starting round 2 for months but I'm determined to do this.

I've had a large glass of water and a coffee with coconut cream and cinnamon. I'll have some vegetable soup and some olives once I've woken up.

Good luck to everyone else!

SuperwormTheThird · 04/01/2016 08:53

Bacon, grilled tomatoes and baby kale for breakfast this morning. Much easier to eat!

Good luck today Snazapoo.

Pengweng · 04/01/2016 14:42

I started on Sat and so far so good. Really bloody bloated today though and got a cracking headache. Could be solved by the DTs going back to nursery school tomorrow though i think Grin

My favourite breakfast is mushrooms and kale fried in coconut oil and then 2 runny eggs on top. Bloody delicious.

Lunch is normally chicken or tuna salad with avocado

Dinner varies but mostly normal stuff, meat/fish and veg (dh will have potatoes or rice).

Bestbees · 04/01/2016 18:31

Sounds like some positive starts!

I had omelette with kale, tomatoes and avocado for breakfast, roast veg and mackerel salad with an apple for lunch and dinner was bolagnase with cabbage. Have some strawberries that I might drizzle with coconut milk for a snack later.

I feel really full after meals, but trying to eat plenty to avoid snacking, then might trim meals down as everything settles.

Weighed myself this morning (10st6) so hiding scales now and hoping for a good loss!

Snazapoo · 05/01/2016 11:33

Yesterday went well, especially when I made a huge vat of mayonnaise Grin

I had tuna mayo and salad for lunch and duck curry for dinner. Some herbal tea too just to make a change from water.

One thing I struggle with is when I have to prepare non-compliant food for my DDs. This morning they were having banana pancakes and it was very hard not to try one.

Today is going well and so far no sign of the dreaded carb flu. Leftover curry for breakfast and Hungarian goulash in the oven for dinner.

SuperwormTheThird · 05/01/2016 12:32

Oh I am struggling with cravings today :(
I agree about making non-compliant food for DCs too. It took a huge amount of restraint not to eat a bit of buttery toast last night!

Bestbees · 05/01/2016 19:50

Totally agree about cooking for children. Loaf of bread finished baking in the bread maker whilst I was eating breakfast, hard to not eat it.

Today has been fine, kale and eggs for breakfast, roast veg n mackerel lunch, pork stir fry for tea. Not having massive carb cravings but have been hungry so eaten some nuts and will have fruit tonight. Are others managing on no snacks at all?

B x

SuperwormTheThird · 05/01/2016 20:04

BestBees - I am so impressed at you making bread. I don't think I could resist freshly made bread!

I gave my two a compliant meal for tea - it ended in a meltdown, and it was only salmon, potatoes and greens. So I don't think I'm going to convert them anytime soon.

I'm struggling with not snacking too. I've had grapes or nut/seed mixes when I've really needed them and I caved in and had a nakd bar today (strangely it tasted quite nice, when I've tried them before I wasn't keen). I'm trying to be kind to myself about snacks for this first week at least as an occasional snack is better than me giving up.

Readysteadyknit · 05/01/2016 20:14

I've started properly today. Spinach and scrambled eggs for breakfast, a protein salad for lunch and the pork chop and apple sauce from the book - all delicious. I've got a bone broth in the slow cooker - although drinking it in the morning as suggested sounds revolting.

I am struggling with drinks - I miss milk in tea and coffee and had a bit of a Diet Coke addiction. Water isn't the same somehow.

Bestbees · 05/01/2016 20:43

Super worm, I agree about taking it slowly. I am hoping as the days go by I will adjust and need less snacks. I think eating plenty of protein n fat at meals is key.

I think it's been ok so far because I have been at work(secondary school teacher) but I don't work thurs or Friday and I will be more tempted by kids food!

Ready I thought I would hate black tea but finding it ok. Needs to be much weaker than how I have it black. I have enjoyed earl grey like this too, might be worth a try.

Went for a run then scarfed down strawberries with coconut milk. When I opened the can yesterday it had split so I used my blender to mix it up. After being in the fridge it had got a lovely whipped texture, so yummy.

My husband is still doing it but struggling a bit with hunger. He is 6'6", very slim and runs 5-10k a day so needs lots of calories, any good ideas for snacks other than nuts?

😀

SuperwormTheThird · 05/01/2016 21:08

ReadySteadyKnit - have you tried herbal or fruit teas? Peppermint tea is keeping me going!

Readysteadyknit · 05/01/2016 22:23

Earl Grey is a good idea Bestbees and making the tea weaker.

Superworm - I like the smell of fruit teas but have only found Lemon and Ginger that I really like, I'll have to experiment with a few more.

Snazapoo · 06/01/2016 06:29

Yesterday was ok cravings wise but pretty disastrous food wise. The traditional Hungarian goulash was so vile even DH wouldn't eat it.
I had to resort to feeding us all bacon and eggs with spinach. Dds were unimpressed to say the least Grin

Today I'm trying a recipe for Bbq sauce from Nom Nom Paleo. She has amazing recipes and lots are compliant. Her crackling chicken is one of the nicest things I've ever eaten.

Ready I've found that Taylors have lovely teas and I'm not usually a fan of anything other than coffee. Sweet rhubarb is yummy and their green tea with grapefruit and lime is nice hot or cold.

Bestbees how about boiled eggs with mayonnaise? Or guacamole with carrot sticks?

Obviously the idea is not to snack at all but make sure you're eating enough at meal times. Try adding more fat to each meal. It seems counterproductive but it worked for me first time round.

Readysteadyknit · 06/01/2016 10:15

Thanks for the fruit tea suggestions - unfortunately the Taylor's fruit teas aren't available locally but I should be able to get some tomorrow.

Has anyone noticed that they are a lot less bloated? I appear to have lost a couple of inches round my tummy (sadly there still a spare tyre there). I had assumed all my tummy was fat but now think some of it was bloat

Readysteadyknit · 06/01/2016 10:17

Just to clarify I only started the diet properly yesterday but gave up wheat and dairy from 1st so I think one of these must be the culprits.

Snazapoo · 06/01/2016 17:47

I made this for dinner and it was very nice with leftovers for breakfast tomorrow.

myhealthyhappyhome.com/2014/01/18/bacon-butternut-squash-quiche-whole30-meal-planning/

Unfortunately Ready I'm too fat to see if I'm bloated or not Blush

Readysteadyknit · 06/01/2016 18:23

Snaza don't get the impression that I am now slim- I still have about 3 stone to lose in an ideal world, it just that my tummy is less rotund that it was and a bit squishier (I'm not sure that that is a good thing though)

Today I made a ragu sauce which I had with corgetti, squash and kale DS had it with pasta. I'm going to have the leftovers for breakfast tomorrow Hmm

Bestbees · 06/01/2016 19:45

Thanks for the ideas snazapoo, send do off with eggs n nuts. He hates avocado which is a pain. He is missing his cheese sandwiches and I think he worries about losing weight as he has been previously very unwell ( Hodgkin's lymphoma and two stem cell transplants). I keep reminding him about all the good fats. Unfortunately he also dislikes fish and coconut which does limit things!

I had much bigger meals today, 3 egg omelettes with half an avocado, roasted veg and masses of chicken and some nuts and apple, pork with potatoes n spinach and two satsumas. No need to snack, and definately noticing when I want to snack but am not hungry. Can't help but think I am eating masses of calories though, and I know it is not a diet per se but will be gutted if I don't lose weight at all.

Ready glad bloat seems to be abaiting

Cooked some butternut squash, bacon, chili and coconut soup for tomorrow and made paleo Mayo. Also prepped balsamic beef in my slow cooker. I am glad I love to cook as it takes a lot!

How have others days been?

Bestbees · 06/01/2016 19:47

Snazapoo just looked at the recipe, it looks great.

BUT have you seen what she calls her child? 'Love nugget'! Hilarious!

Snazapoo · 06/01/2016 20:14

Ha! No I didn't see that.
I tend not to delve too deeply into the healthy mama type blogs Wink

I definitely think being a confident cook really helps with the Whole30. My dishwasher is running all day it seems.

SuperwormTheThird · 06/01/2016 20:54

Great to hear everyone is doing well! I've had a bit of a disaster here as our fridge is on the blink and so today I have mostly been trying to eat what's in the fridge.
Snazapoo - I also have huge piles of washing up - and a lot more greasy than usual too. It doesn't make me feel very healthy!
Like Bestbees, I've also found that when I want to snack it's not because I'm actually hungry, it's more out of habit.

Bestbees · 07/01/2016 19:46

Evening ladies!

Not a great day here as my boys refused to nap. I ended up not eating lunch and snacking a lot. However very proud of myself for refusing white buttered toast and cake at a toddler group. In fact, I found it easier than I thought, and actually wanted to eat good things.

So today: tomato and egg omelette with avocado. Cucumber sticks with paleo Mayo and an apple, handful of nuts, bowl of butternut squash and bacon soup and then slow cooked balsamic beef with kale and potatoes. Fruit later. Lots of food but all good!

How are others doing?

Bestbees · 07/01/2016 19:46

Coops meant to say sorry about your fridge super worm! Did you manage to stay on track?

SuperwormTheThird · 07/01/2016 20:37

Evening everyone!

Bestbees - well done on saying no to cake and buttered toast. I like the sound of butternut and bacon soup.

Somehow I am still on track despite the fridge. We had to switch it off to defrost the freezer beneath to make it work again (it's done it before) so I had to freeze as much as possible and eat anything left. It seems to be working again now but it'll a few days before we trust it.
For breakfast I had fruit salad with nuts/seeds and coconut cream (quite yummy - never tried it before).
Lunch was hard as I was at work but had nothing to take. So I went to tesco and got a bland salad (took my own dressing) and some ham. I was going to get chicken but when I looked at the ingredients it was full of loads of non compliant things (who'd have thought it). I'm not actually sure about ham as it had some preservative added. Off to check on that.
Lunch also included a banana and some pistachios. Then tonight I've had beef fajita filling and salsa.

I'm getting really sick of all the cooking and preparation but apart from that feeling ok. How is everyone else doing?

Readysteadyknit · 07/01/2016 21:07

I'm more or less on track - I had a nakd bar at work today and my son is currently cooking pizza which smells delicious but I'm going to have some nuts instead Sad

I had last night's Ragu for breakfast (not good at 6am), took some protein salad for lunch and steak with vegetables cooked coconut oil

The Taylor's teas Snaz recommended are delicious particularly the rhubarb.

Fingers crossed the fridge keeps working Superworm
