Paul McKenna Can Make Us Thin! Thread Number 14 ~ A Simple Title, for Simple Weight Loss and All amongst Friends!!

Welcome to thread 14 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Outskirts of Kent and London here and it's been raining a lot and very blustery, but not on the scale of the flooding or 108 mph gales!

I need to do something to exercise, but don't know what! I have an exercise bike (clothes horse!!), but really need to use it! will also do the baked bean tin arm exercises.

Eaten a lot yesterday and today, but somehow another .75lb had come off.

Going to listen to HGB again and try to do it daily. Have dipped into the book a bit too.

Electricity has just come back on. Went off about six last night so it was sandwiches for dinner with camping stove tea.The wind was very scary last night, the windows nearly caved in from the strength of the
Half the roof slates are off and a lot of the roof is now exposed and DH has gone to the nearest town to buy slates and he will be spending the day on the roof fixing it before the rain comes. This weather is diabolical. Last year the house was completely flooded. We shall not be claiming on the house insurance for this as it will just increase our already hugely increased premiums. Sigh!!!.Trees down on the road and half a tree in our field.
Hope everyone else is ok.

Solo · 13/02/2014 23:52

:( Milly how awful.

Re the insurance; I think I'd claim. Insurances for everyone will go up after all the money they will need to shell out, so yours will likely go up even if you don't claim. At least you'd get things sorted fairly quickly.

I have over eaten today. I need to get a grip.

Hi, I'm joining. Just downloaded the app...

ALittleFaith · 14/02/2014 11:21

Well hello wunda! :)

BrandNewIggi · 14/02/2014 12:25

Hello Smile
Very sorry to hear about all the weather-related problems. We have been lucky here in Scotland (my bit anyway).
Am doing my best to re-trance myself, nervous as staying with my parents next weekend and my usual pattern is to eat loads when I'm there - I don't enjoy the food much so I'll buy chocolate to eat in the evening etc - and I really hope to avoid that pattern this time.

BrandNewIggi · 14/02/2014 12:26

A question for FEE trancers - wtf is that story about the man and the tigers and the honey about? That just makes me feel nervous!

Solo · 14/02/2014 13:58

Welcome wundawoman :) get stuck in! we are very friendly and supportive.

Not read my FFEE yet. Slightly Hmm about tigers and honey though! sounds odd!!

OP posts:
NoGoodAtWittyNames · 14/02/2014 14:28

Haha iggi I have no idea but he sounds like a classic comfort eater - turning to honey before he's about to be eaten!

BrandNewIggi · 14/02/2014 20:55

Yes he changes his mood with food - surely this is a counterproductive message! And this may be why I have been eating Percy pigs today to deal with my new fear of tigers.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 15/02/2014 07:49

Heehee!!!

Solo · 17/02/2014 01:31

I have made an important decision today based on the fact that I've felt so bloody uncomfortable and sick because I've ignored my full signal. Plus I've continued to drink too close to meal eating times. I really don't like feeling this way, so I'm going to stop it by being sensible!

May be away for a few days ~ not sure yet, but will certainly be back soon!
I hope you are all well.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 17/02/2014 10:10

Go Solo! I'm with you there - ripped my last pair of comfy jeans on Friday (all the rest are just that bit too tight, which I have been in denial over, but can ignore it no more) and as I have neither the money or inclination to buy anymore (especially in a bigger size) I've been forced into action. Now on day 2 of FFEE and determined to see it through for the full 28 days and I've also ordered the GB one as I know a lot of you find the trance really effective and I'm struggling to recognise when I'm full so hoping that'll sort that. I read a v inspirational review of the GB book on amazon, the lady updated every month or so with her progress and within 5 months she'd gone from a size 18 to a size 10. Proof that when followed properly PMs system is the best thing ever!

MillyBlods · 17/02/2014 18:34

SoloNoGood sorry its not going too well for you. Are you listening to your cds every day? I know its hard sometimes to find time to yourself but the cd hypnosis can really keep you on track.
I saw the reviews by the lady on Amazon too and she inspired me. I find that it gives me the boost I need to make that conscious decision to stop eating when im no longer hungry. Don't wait to feel full, just stop when your not really as hungry anymore. Just walk away and stop the food having control over you. You can always get more if your still feeling the hunger later.

EggInABap · 18/02/2014 10:37

Right ladies I'm in. Or should I say back in. I followed ICMYT before my wedding nearly 2 years ago and got to 10 stone which is my lowest ever. I felt happy and free and thought I'd finally cracked it.

Since then I have put on nearly 4 stone, have lost some following virtually every diet going- 5:2, Slim & Save, Low Carb etc- then put it all back on again. Have literally had weeks where I've chopped from one diet to another in a panic. In the back of my mind I knew none of it would work long term but chose to ignore it!

I now weigh more than I did when 9 months pregnant with DC2. This is the most I've ever weighed. I KNOW this is about emotional eating for me. I've never been able to stop when full. Have struggled with my weight since my teens when my parents got divorced and we had no money or food in the house, I would panic eat/binge when food became available. But normally I have managed to hang around the 11 stone mark, going up and down by a stone.

So I've ordered FFEE today and hope that it can really help me crack this once and for all. I have started following the rules since yesterday and am already feeling much better. I have both ICMYT and GB books at home, have read the GB book but never listened to the trance. Will wait for the new book to come then go from there.

I have also decided to go and buy myself some new clothes. I have tonnes in size 12 but I have about 3 outfits in size 16-18 that I am now, I have made myself not buy anything new for about a year and tbh I look like a bit of a tramp. Just kept telling myself I'd lose some weight soon and can buy clothes in a smaller size or fit in my old ones. I don't think it's helped my self esteem to do this though. So today I am going to buy a few outfits in the size I am now to make myself look and feel better NOW instead of waiting for a few stone to come off to feel better.

Oh wow what a long post. Feels really self indulgent to write so much about myself, sorry!

EggInABap · 18/02/2014 10:40

Can I just ask one question actually. For those of you who have been on these threads for quite some time (I recognise some of the names as have lurked for years trying to get back into it).

How successful have you been? Is it a constant effort to keep this up? That's what concerns me. Not in a horrible way, but I hope to have this sorted so I never need to come back here or even think about it again. Am I being unrealistic though, do our food issues ever REALLY leave us?

ALittleFaith · 18/02/2014 12:46

Well hello egg! Nice to see you. To answer your question, for me it varies. Sometimes I'm really focused and it comes naturally. Sometimes I just can't get in the zone. The main thing for me is listening to the CD each night and dipping back in to the book.

I am still waiting for my gb book! Boo! I want it now! I haven't weighed myself in weeks but I think I've lost weight. My clothes feel loser and I had a good look in a full length mirror and it certainly looks like I've lost. I'm obviously more active being back at work and snacking less because I'm so busy so maybe I have. I'm not sure I want to weigh myself actually. I'd rather do it this way. I felt motivated enough to shred this morning! :)

Solo · 18/02/2014 13:35

Hello again Egg :) welcome to your new way of life!

To answer your question...
Hmmmm...well, initially I lost 2st and I kept it off until I started feeling emotionally rocky at which time I started comfort eating. I managed to 'only' put back on half that loss and have lost half of that again, then regained it, lost it iyswim, but then I was assaulted at work and have gained. I went back up to 14st 12lbs (which is literally 4lbs short of my original obese starting weight) and today I'm at 14:4 so happy to be going down again. I think my aim is to eat until I'm full rather than just keep on stuffing myself as, after fitting the GB, overeating makes me feel really dreadful and I don't like it.

So I think that I thought I'd cracked it, but as I comfort eat, I think I will, long term, need some sort of support (until I'm happy I suppose) even if it's just the cd's or books.
My aim is to weigh between 12 and 12:7 which at 50 I think is healthier than the 9:7 I was at 30 as I don't want to look gaunt. I looked fab as a young slimbo, but I know being too thin can age you a lot when you are older and I don't want that at all.

ALF I hope you are doing the admiration in the mirror exercise! :) well done for feeling better about your clothes etc.

MillyBlods · 18/02/2014 13:49

Hi Egg Welcome and glad you found your way back.
To answer your questions

  1. How successful have I been....

I have been doing this woe for the last ten years and have remained the same weight. That is I have never gained weight again. I was ok with that until about a year ago and decided to lose some more fat. I have lost a stone since then.

  1. Is it a constant effort to keep it up?

Ok, for me this way of eating is just normal eating in that it is the way we would naturally eat if we were a slim person who had never had any emotional food issues in any way at all. I think that if I hadn't had my childhood and adulthood clouded by thoughts of dieting and been made to feel fat then I would perhaps have never had problems with food and therefore never dieted nor lost and gained weight through diets.
When you ask if it is a constant effort to keep up, it is only constant in that you listen to your body and only eat whatever you want when you are truly hungry and stop when you are SATISFIED not full. In an ideal world why would any of us abuse our bodies by forcing food into them when they do not require any more fuel. It is abusive and we are being abusive to our bodies by choosing to ignore the hunger signal. I know a lot of us sometimes don't know when we are satisfied but if you listen to your body its when your no longer feeling hunger anymore which is different to full. Its just stopping rather than carrying on eating because it tastes nice. That's is tongue hunger not true body hunger. Maybe we have to re learn the signals but sometimes its just half a sandwich or one biscuit and then we are satisfied as we have enjoyed the taste, crunchiness, sweetness but because we can we just carry on munching through some more of them.

This woe is body led calorie control in that your body tells you when it needs food ( and it will, desperately if you don't feed it for hours on end)
and it does tell you when it is satisfied and doesn't need you to keep eating. Again that signal of enough is that your no longer desperately hungry (depending where you are on the initial hunger scale when you eat).

You did this woe before so you know it works and it is just eating normally so you can do it again. We all overeat at times but then you just let it go and wait till your truly hungry again before putting food in your body.

Mmmmm!!!! think I beat your there with the longest (boring) post though...ha ha!! (smile)

MillyBlods · 18/02/2014 13:55

or Smile even.
Well done on your weight loss Solo. Smile

Solo · 18/02/2014 15:45

I feel that I can't eat 'properly' ie chew properly since I've had braces fitted. I definitely don't enjoy food the way I should do as I chew it minimally and swallow. Be glad to get them gone TBF!

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 18/02/2014 16:15

Congrats on the looser clothes Faith!

Welcome egg! It sounds like FFEE will be a real help to you, emotional eating's my main problem and when I read the book I felt this was the missing part of the ICMYT puzzle. Although I'll warn you now I have found it a struggle to read and follow, not that it's complicated, think it's more my subconscious being reluctant to let go of my old coping mechanisms (ie using food as an emotional crutch). I've been following this WOE on and off for the last 6 years, but I've found even when I'm not consciously in the zone I'm still eating a lot less than I did before discovering PM and apart from a couple of occasions where I've attempted (and given up within a week) a diet, I've mainly eaten whatever I wanted in those 6 years and like Milly my weights stayed pretty much the same, although I'm now in a position where I want to lose more and ideally be a size 10-12. So I think it does become ingrained and I'm sure once I've cracked emotional eating and by listening to the cd's every now and again it will become second nature. Good luck!

MillyBlods · 19/02/2014 21:47

How's everyone doing today?

Hi all, feel like I've not been on here for ages - been away to visit hubby's family for last few days - dd has had a chance to wear someone else out for a change! - while we were away it was very hard to practise mindful eating as hubby's mum kind of force feeds you, and also as we spent a lot of time at their house I had no control over what to eat...still back now and got my head in the right place i think to make a go of it. I have kept up my running with the c25k and nearly at end of w2 now, and treated myself to some trainers the other day after having the gait analysis done, as I suspected I needed some support trainers, so am hoping to try them out today, although the weather is not looking great...
hello egg and wunda Grin hope you have had a positive (re)start to PM.
Well done faith on the loose clothes - a really great sign Grin
I have decided to stick to listening to the ICMYT trance daily as this one seems to work for me better than the daily FFEE one, but I am using the self sabotage and emotional balancing ones and also plan to start using the havening for 5 days from today to see if that also helps. I hope to read the FFEE book a bit more thoroughly also.
Milly hope the weather is improving for you and your house is ok Sad
I am off to check the current state of the weather now to see if a run is possible...
