Here we go - nice, shiny new thread for a new week

OP posts:
coppertop · 18/07/2006 15:41

I hope you all still go ahead with the Oxford meet-up. That way you can tell me who's really a bearded trucker called Nigel. If you have a London one later I'll see if I can make it to that one.

I'm also looking forward to suejonez' announcement when the adoption happens.

coppertop · 19/07/2006 09:58

Just weighed myself and I've put a pound back on. Dh bought some lollies with ice-cream in and I couldn't resist them.

I think it's time for me to start doing more exercise. Our local community group has set up some fitness classes and are trying to get funding for a creche. In the meantime I shall start hunting for a fitness video/DVD that I can do without ds1 and ds2 laughing at me too much.....

Good luck with the weigh-ins, everyone.

suejonez · 19/07/2006 13:29

now CT you KNOW your gain is not down to a few ice lollies [stern look emoticon]. I'll bet that you've done what I did a few weeks ago, just had that little bit extra - extra mayo on my salad, extra latte at the weekend, slightly bigger portions. The ice lollies were te final straw!

Just make sure he buts soleros as they're life savers in this heat and not bad on the calories. And think of us when you reach out that hand for an extra dollop of mayo on your lovely low fat salad!

coppertop · 19/07/2006 14:19

I plead guilty to the charge of larger portions. (fnaar!)

I've just had a look in the freezer and they are Soleros (Red fruits flavour - yum!) so I feel slightly better.

I've noticed that I seem to eat more on the days when I drink less water. I now have a jug of ice-cold water in the fridge waiting for me.

JackieNo · 19/07/2006 15:26

It'll soon come off, Coppertop, I'm aure . Just weighed and I've lost a pound. Wilting in the heat, I have to say. Another disadvantage of being a BigMoFo. Would love to be able to wear little strappy dresses, or shorts. One day.

MrsJohnCusack · 19/07/2006 15:28

oh don't even get me started on what to wear in this heat! would be lovely to even feel happy in a short sleeved top...

am happy to report that I haven't put on any more weight this week, maening that so far I am managing to stick to my vow not to pile on the weight this pregnancy. will be much happier in a few weeks though - a little bit more bleeding last night, aarrrrrrgghh.

JackieNo · 19/07/2006 15:30

Oh well done on not putting on any MrsJC, and poor you about the bleeding . Horrible feeling that - I had bleeding up to 12 weeks with DD, and you just dread going to the toilet, and feel permanently sad and unsettled. Hope things improve for you.

alittlebitshy · 19/07/2006 17:20

damn it. i sem to have put on about 2lb this week . Not totally suprising considering my birthday kind of lasted all weekend, pizza express ( just pizza though) and harry ramsden's fish and chips sat, cake on sunday plus indian (yum) and more cake and chinese on mon.

better luck this week, and i am just hoping my motivation has not slipped.

failed in my decision a while ago to not have diet coke cos of the aspartame etc. grr. just so hot........

hope everyone else is pleased this week.

suejonez · 19/07/2006 17:28

frankly alittlebitshy - the aspartame will do you less harm (in moderation) than the weight will, so if you need it to help you just try to drink it moderately.

I think weight gain in your birthday week is not just acceptable but required. Just think about your next birthday - you want to be able to say "Haven't I done well since last birthday, that was a good year" not "Oh shit another year another stone heavier"...

Happy birthday by the way - was I supposed to know it was last week - can't remember if you mentioned it and I'm losing my marbles

alittlebitshy · 19/07/2006 17:29

thanks
thing is it was only my 27th, so by the time it's my 30th, a week long public holiday will be declared!!!!!

JackieNo · 19/07/2006 17:32

Know what you mean about Diet Coke, alittlebitshy - I used to drink loads, then got worried about it, and cut down, and I do find that sometimes they just hit the spot for me. Mind you, I try to look on them as a 'treat' these days (not always successfully, it has to be said) and have them instead of a glass of wine.
Congratulations on your birthday, too. Sounds like you had fun.

suejonez · 19/07/2006 17:43

I deal with eating out much now than I used to. It was one WW meeting when they went through the points in an Indian, Thai, Pizza and other take away/restaurant meals.

I was so horrifed at how high the indian and thai were that I've always treated them as an extra special treat IYKWIM. Probably don't have more than 2 a year now. They are FULL of saturated fat and contain more than your calorie allowance for a whole day if you have the works ie starter, bread, curry rice and veggies. A basic Pizza Express Pizza is about half your calorie allowance for a day so manageable if you don;t have anything else with it.

Fish and chips on the other hand I've factored into my diet - well either fish OR chips. I can have a portion of chip shop chips with something like a tin of baked beans and some cooked chicken every week (only once a week though) and really enjoy it as a treat and still lose weight provided I'm not too bad the rest of the week.

MrsJohnCusack · 19/07/2006 18:02

suejonez!

could do Kew coffee next Friday (28th) or the one after (4th).
any time of day really but morning probably better as will have DD with me and she usually sleeps about 1-3pm

suejonez · 19/07/2006 18:12

I think Friday 28th is fine with me. Morning is no problem - am going to a MN meet up in Richmond the night before so will be a MN weekend all round!

Anytime after 10am is fine

WigWamBam · 19/07/2006 18:28

This BigMoFo put shorts and a strappy top on to fetch dd from school this afternoon; yes, I know I look awful in them and yes, I know a lot of people think it's disgusting but it's too bloody hot for anything else! Am really suffering in this heat though; I see all these skinny minnies skipping along and I'm really struggling to even move. And all the chafy bits rubbing together ... bleeergh!

Want to know something else this BigMoFo did today? Forgot it was weigh-in ...

OP posts:
schneebly · 19/07/2006 18:33

I have put on 3lbs!! I wasn't too good this week but didn't think I was that bad. I think I might be retaining water as I couldn't get my rings on today - must be the heat! I will try drinking lots of water and some lemon in it to see what happens! WWB I have a strappy top on too despite my bingo wings - too bloody hot!

WigWamBam · 19/07/2006 18:37

Drink loads and loads and loads of water if you're getting water retention, schneebs. Apparently (according to my old Rosemary Conley instructor)if you don't get enough water when it's hot, your body hangs onto it for dear life - hence the water retention. Once you start getting enough water down your neck the water retention subsides (you spend all your life on the loo, mind ...)

OP posts:
schneebly · 19/07/2006 18:40

I definitely haven't been drinking enough so that is likely to account for some of it - loads of water and no excuses next week!

Fauve · 19/07/2006 19:34

I'm trying to use the fact that I'd be less hot if less fat as a motivating factor...I liked the recent thread about ditching the concern about bingo wings, don't know if you guys saw it. In the end, what the hell, wear what keeps you cool like they do in hot countries. Maybe we'll all develop relaxed Mediterranean personalities in time.

Anyway, have lost a pound, and I'm delighted - I've been starving all week (though not in an unhealthy way, natch).

Frozen Frubes, incidentally, are about 50 cals each - don't know how they compare to Soleros? Thanks for the tip, Suejonez.

MrsJohnCusack · 19/07/2006 20:49

suejonez - 10.30 on Fri 28th then? I will be the harrassed looking frump with unfashionably long red hair & 19 month old squawker in tow.

JackieNo · 19/07/2006 21:16

Been getting my bingo wings out here too. Like you say, it's too hot not to. Had to go to work though, so definitely no shorts. You know I said I tend to eat badly when DH is away - well I've just downed a good half a tub of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream. No excuse - just comfort eating because of the heat and feeling like I need a 'reward'. But I'm not going to let it derail me - will get back on the straight and narrow right now, starting with a load more water - I've had a bit of a headache all day, and that's very unusual for me. Might be because I haven't had any coffee, though.

Fauve · 19/07/2006 21:30

Hit the frozen Frubes instead, JackieNo

JackieNo · 19/07/2006 21:46

Yes - might have to try that (involves actually buying some first though.

WigWamBam · 20/07/2006 11:38

I get later and later with these results ... sorry

alittlebitshy: +2lb (total 12lb)
Coppertop: +1lb (total 9lb)
Fauve: -1lb (total 7lb)
JackieNo: -1lb (total 19lb)
Schneebly: +3lb (total 11.5lb)
Suejones: -1lb (total 11lb)
WWB: -1lb (total 14lb)

Not such a good week this week. Four of us are fighting over the crown with 1lb losses. Fauve gets a for her first half a stone, and I've got my first stone .

I think we need to draw a line very firmly under this week though and try for a few less + signs next week! So here's the new thread and here's the line

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 20/07/2006 11:38

I didn't put all that space in there ... honestly!
