Congratulations to Hub and Schneebly.

I'm sure between us we could put together an excellent synchronised sinning team.

"Profiteroles in the left hand, raise, twirl aaaaaaaand eat." We'd get the gold for sure.

MrsJohnCusack · 14/07/2006 10:15

Well done schneebly

suejonez · 14/07/2006 14:58

Hve just been for lunch in Pizza Express (not my choice) and only had diet coke a primavera pizza and a coffee [smug emoticon]

alittlebitshy · 14/07/2006 17:10

lol at synchromised sinning lol lol lol.

a meetup DOES sound fun!

I'm basically in London (east lonodn/essex) so good transport links even though i don't (still) drive!

suejonez · 16/07/2006 22:57

WWb - promised to look up glycaemic load for you good short article here

Nothing different to what you'd think though - planty of frash fruit and veg, whole grains and seeds where possible as little processed starch as possible).

The other tip I'd give to people who are insulin resistant is not to snack too often try to leave a good few hours between food, otherwise your insulin levels are alwasy up and you feel hungrier. The reason you feel hungry so soon after something like chinese is lots of starchy carbs and not much protein which gives you an insulin spike and drop which makes you hungry. If you get peckish try to snack on some lean(ish protein) - hummous and celery, sardines mashed on a piece of toast, slice of ham on its own.

Works for me (though I haven't been doing it this week!)

Hi guys. Had a nice, if hot and rather hectic, weekend. Lovely to be at the coast - went on the beach three times in 2 days. Did try to eat sensibly, but we did go out for dinner on the Saturday evening, and I did have a pudding. Also had an ice cream on Sunday. Back on the straight and narrow today.

Have we got any further on plans for a meet-up? How about lunch in Oxford, on one of the Fridays in August? That would be August the 4th, 11th, 18th or 25th. I think I could do any of those at the moment. I'd have to bring children, too - hope I wouldn't be the only one (if I was, I could probably find childcare for them).

Fauve · 17/07/2006 10:19

Sadly I don't think I could do a meet-up during the school hols - my two are 12 and 8 and wouldn't tolerate an outing not aimed at them!!! (it'd be moan, moan, moan). But I hope you guys go ahead, then I can join you another time

coppertop · 17/07/2006 10:31

It would probably be a lot easier for me to bring my 3 along (and I don't say that very often! ). We don't have any childcare so it's usually either me or dh looking after them. Is there somewhere child-friendly maybe? If not then I'm happy enough to wait until the next time you have a meet-up.

JackieNo · 17/07/2006 10:33

I'm sure we can find somewhere child-friendly - there's always Pizza Express (sorry suejonez) or various other places, or if the weather looks as if it's going to be OK, maybe a picnic?

MrsJohnCusack · 17/07/2006 10:37

I could do any Friday in August apart from the 25th and I would probably bring along DD (20 months by then). I would love to do it as it's my last chance, will be moving to NZ (for good, gah) early September

suejonez · 17/07/2006 10:46

Fridays in August should be fine for me - I like the idea of a picnic if the weathers good or will grudgingly accept Pizza Express if its not.

Obviously I will be sans-child (not actually having on at the moment!) but it will be good for me to get used to child friendly lunches now.

coppertop · 17/07/2006 10:47

Ds1 and ds2 might possibly have a playscheme session on the 4th. I should find out sometime this week though. So probably the 11th or 18th?

suejonez · 17/07/2006 10:50

Mrs JC - we could share a car if you like and split the petrol? How exciting that we might actually manage to get together!

JackieNo · 17/07/2006 10:54

We've been to Tootsies in the new-ish Oxford Castle/old Prison development, which does mostly upmarket burgers, but is actually pretty child friendly too. Not particularly cheap, though. There's also a Bella Pasta which is quite basic from a food point of view, but pretty child-friendly.

suejonez · 17/07/2006 11:02

Tootsies much more my cup of tea, one in Barnes and Chiswick near me, and even Bella Pasta would be preferable to Pizza Express

JackieNo · 17/07/2006 11:03

suejonez. What do you have against poor old Pizza Express?

WigWamBam · 17/07/2006 11:11

Mmm, Tootsies doesn't seem to offer much in the way of food for cheese-hating, spice-loathing, nut-allergic veggies ... qu'elle surprise!!

Am OK with Fridays during holidays - would have to bring dd though.

Thanks for the link, sue - will have a look later.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 17/07/2006 11:13

Hmm WWB - could be difficult. How would Bella Pasta be?

WigWamBam · 17/07/2006 11:15

No, it's OK - I usually manage to find something! Whatever suits everyone else is fine, particularly if it's child-friendly.

OP posts:
hub2dee · 17/07/2006 11:15

wwb - are you coming down to London then or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

WigWamBam · 17/07/2006 11:19

The idea of a MoFos Meetup in Oxford's been kicking around for a day or two, Hub ... I haven't checked the train timetables yet but can't see it being too hard from New Street (although having to pay for dd will shove the price up ... hey ho!). Are you likely to be able to make it?

OP posts:
suejonez · 17/07/2006 11:52

OK WWB - trains from Ne St to oxford take betweeb 1 hr and 1hr 15 mins - there's one which leaves at 10.33 and gets in at 11.37 adult single price is £8.

JackieNo - just not keen on their pizza's and resent eating a salad with more calories than a pizza!

Also forgot that we have a company awayday on August 11th. Does that mean we're homing on on Friday August 18th?

Show of hands please...

JackieNo · 17/07/2006 11:54

I'm up for the 18th .

alittlebitshy · 17/07/2006 12:12

oooh, maybe
can do that one whereas would no be able to do the previous 2....

will see if can do it sans dd (smile nicely at dh)......

suejonez · 17/07/2006 12:39

Jackie, if the weather is good - is there somewhere fairly central we can picnic? It might be an easier option on both purses and diets!
