I am attempting a fast today. Maybe I just need to get back into that mindset.
Struggling to resist the cinnamon bagel DS is ignoring.

Hazelbrowneyes · 04/09/2013 09:02

ARGH! I am a loser with no willpower.

Yesterday:
B ? cereal bar
L ? falafel and butternut squash salad
D ? mozzarella and beetroot salad
S ? packet of squares, brushchetta with feta dip, S&V crisps, a bottle of wine. GAH.

I?m now suffering with a hangover so have had to have sugar in my tea.

So annoyed with myself.

I?m pretty bloody certain I will eat way too much bad stuff today but I won?t be drinking tonight and I will be exercising.

Amanda I agree with Lego, you?re being so hard on yourself Sad xx Have you managed to speak to someone about the Mirena at all? If you?re hungry today, please eat. I wonder if fasting at the moment might make you feel even worse. PM me if you want to chat, you know where I am xxx

Wellies I love the idea of ten star jumps and ten squats whenever you go to the loo. I might adopt that idea. Well done you for making such an effort today. I always feel so much better when I?ve made an effort with my appearance.

The only things on my list I managed yesterday:

  1. Walk at least 5000 steps (desk job, I don?t get up much!) a day ? 6500!
  2. Continue with face cleaning routine ? YES! I did this!

I need a stern word with myself. One thing I have got good at is dressing nicely for work. Yesterday I failed a bit (jeans, vest top, jacket & wedge trainers) but I still think I looked ok Wink

Today I?m wearing a black pencil skirt, black top with a cross over bit so it hides the tummy (I?ve still not worn a tight dress after being congratulated on my pregnancy last week), black stilettos (which are new and have caused a massive blister) and a jacket until my office warms up a bit. Leaving work early today to help the inlaws car hunt so have flip flops with me for all the walking.

So, first fail of the day ? I?ve just purchased crisps, a twix and full fat coke. Doh.

twinklestar2 · 04/09/2013 09:34

3 stone Lego! That is totes amazeballs as the kids say Grin

Amanda I agree with the others. Waaaay too hard on yourself love! Why not plan 3 healthy, low cal meals and stick to them. Ok it's not the same as fasting but it's low cal. You could have 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast (around 150 cals), soup for lunch (will be mega low if you make it yourself) and something with salad or a chicken and veg stir fry for dinner.

Six - well done on the exercise

I'm managing to stick with it, here's my menu for yesterday:

Muesli, seed sprinkles, SS milk
Chicken salad wrap
Chicken, boiled potatoes, peas
Yoghurt and bag of quavers
30 mins weights session

Today's menu

Muesli, seed sprinkles, ss milk
Houmous salad wrap
Potato and pea curry and rice
Fruit and yoghurt

Therealamandaclarke · 04/09/2013 12:36

H shit!

So I was doing ok I thought. No food. Planning on a total fast to get some control back. It was tricky (feeling low and a bit... Sort of bored/ busy IYSWIM)
Then CH DH suggests going out for lunch. I agreed as I didn't want to look like a killjoy (DS at CM today) and went to give DD her lunch. Floodgates open I ate a bag of s&v hula hoops, a chocolate biscuit, half a bagel and a breadstick. Fuckity fuck. (sorry)
Then CH DH says "oh, it's your fasting day isn't it.
Row ensues.
Is it me? Really?
It is isn't it? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hazelbrowneyes · 04/09/2013 13:00

Amanda firstly, big hugs. I don't think it is you to be honest, I think some men just don't "get" it, I know my DH will always suggest a meal out when I'm trying to eat better and not drink. It's frustrating and you can't help but wonder if it's actually malicious or they just don't think. Forget about what you've eaten, it's not the end of the world. Treat today as a non-fast day but eat a healthy dinner - it's lovely and sunny so a salad would be perfect. I bet you'd come in on lower calories than you think. Can you get some fresh air? That always helps me when I'm feeling low. Even just a walk around the garden with your DD would get you in the sunshine and away from CH DH (tell him he is NOT invited on your walk) xxxx

RubyGoat · 04/09/2013 13:28

Amanda I second Twinkle's suggestion of just trying the old fashioned route of 3 healthy, low fat/cal meals a day for a bit. If you try & make them high fibre & protein they should be reasonably filling so you are less likely to want to snack. Big hugs, you are obviously fed up. Please chase up with the doctor if you haven't already about the Mirena. And yes, some men just don't realise. Especially if they have never had had weight issues or never bothered about it.

Therealamandaclarke · 04/09/2013 20:10

Hi FRs.
Sorry to be such a pain. Thanks for all your supportive words.

I did go for a walk, to collect DS from CM. I usually drive as it's about a 3 mile round trip. I'll do it again but I think it's quite far for him. With practice thoug, should be ok.
Then I ate a small helping of spag Bol and salad and the other half of that bagel and a biscuit Blush just finished a giant mug of tea with two sugars. [blish]
Overall, I expect I've not had loads of calories but a bit miffed I seem to have lost the ability to fast.
So tense and tired.
I think I'll go and lose the Mirena on Monday (next available day to do so) even if it's not to blame I've become fixated on it.
Tomorrow I plan to "mini fast" so just skip bf and lunch.

Hoping to do some squats, abs and push ups before bed. Desperate to sleep.
Thanks again for being so patient.
O&D FRs.

RubyGoat · 05/09/2013 07:56

OMG Amanda you aren't being a pain! The Mirena probably just disagrees with you, it's not for everyone. I went on Dianette (combined pill) around 11-12 years ago. I was on it for less than a month & I started with hemiplegic migraines (the same kind as that woman who woke up sounding Chinese). Obviously I stopped taking the pill, however I still get the migraines over a decade later & have to take some pretty heavy medicine to allow me to lead a normal life (which I mostly can now). I'm not looking for sympathy BTW I just want you to realise a) you're not being weak or anything by failing to 'battle through it' & b) hormones aren't for everyone, they can really screw you up. Please stop being so hard on yourself. (((Amanda)))

Therealamandaclarke · 05/09/2013 08:12

Thanks lego
Blimey, those migraines sound scary. I'm glad you're doing so well, thanks for sharing your story.
I am going to just have a w days of eating "normally" when I am hungry and not comfort eating.
I will try to avoid snacks.
I mean, that's supposed to be the thing to do isn't it?
I'll go back to 5:2 when I feel a bit more....me IYSWIM.
Thanks so much. You guys have been so great.

RubyGoat · 05/09/2013 08:23

Hi Amanda. that sounds better just at the moment. Glad you've decided to stop the total fasts etc for now, you were clearly struggling with them & sounded extremely fed up. And glad that you're getting the Mirena removed soon. Don't forget it will probably take a couple of days for your hormones to return to normal afterwards. If you want snacks, try carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, celery etc. better than nothing IMHO if you're starving. Unless you're my DH who calls celery, 'smellery'. Grin And salad, 'smellard'. Sigh.

Hazelbrowneyes · 05/09/2013 08:44

Amanda I think just eating ?normally? is a good idea. Well done for going for a 3 mile walk too! You sound much more positive this morning. x

lego you speak so much sense. The migraines sound bloody horrid. X

I?m a bit ?meh? today. I spent last night curled up on the sofa in pain. Growing pains in my leg. FFS. I haven?t grown for years! I?m also so fed up of not being able to go straight home after work. I?m shattered and I?ve missed all the lovely sunshine.

I achieved the following from my list yesterday:

  1. Actually do some work
  2. Walk at least 5000 steps (desk job, I don?t get up much!) a day ? nearly?4500.
  3. Continue with face cleaning routine

Rubbish.

Food:
B ? none
L ? chicken and pasta salad
D ? chicken curry with poppadums (At home, out of a jar, obvs)
S ? twix, s&v crisps, full fat coke, 1 glass of wine

So not too bad but could do better.

Today:
B ? none
L ? no idea
D ? salmon & salad, probably with some potatoes as well.

From my list I plan to do the following:

  1. Drink 1l of water (I have to start slow) a day
  2. Actually do some work
  3. Exercise in some form for at least 10 mins a day
  4. Shape and paint nails (need to remove week old, chipped nail varnish first Blush)
  5. No alcohol
  6. Moisturise daily, inc hands
  7. Continue with face cleaning routine

I also plan to at least finish work on time so I can enjoy the last day of sun before the rain arrives.

Oh, I really must try on some dresses tonight for friends wedding.

Big hugs all xx

Therealamandaclarke · 05/09/2013 09:00

Grin @ "smellery" lego

hazel growing pains?
Poss: cramps (dehydration/ vit D deficiency??)
Had them before?

It's like a surgery in here with us lot.

Thanks guys.
Had a bagel and coffee for breakfast. I'm about to take DS and DD to the park. I might take DS to the cafe for lunch. Normally I would just have a cup of tea then.
More spag Bol for dinner.
Haven't had any water yet. Is it really a good thing to drink 2l??

twinklestar2 · 05/09/2013 09:13

Amanda - glad to hear you're listening to Lego :) Water is good for you, again it's a habit you have to get into. I love water, prefer it over any other drink, it's so refreshing!

I'm doing and feeling good, long may it last. I have a wedding at the end of the month so that's my motivation.

Menu

Cereal
SS milk
Sprinkles

Houmous salad wrap for lunch

Work event tonight but I'm not drinking and its a BBQ so will stick with salad and chicken. Tempted not to go to not break up my good week! I missed a couple of events when I was doing ivf (had to be home every night to rest) so I feel like I should go.

Hazelbrowneyes · 05/09/2013 09:19

Amanda yes, I get them a lot, plus I have issues with that knee as well after twisting it in Zumba. I cancelled a doctors appointment last week, regret that now! I think it?s possibly dehydration as I didn?t have a lot of fluids yesterday.

I would love to go to the park instead of being stuck in my office. Have fun!

I think the NHS recommend 1.2 litres of fluid a day and all drinks count towards that. I physically can?t drink 2 litres of water a day (on top of other drinks) unless I?m doing physical work in the heat.

I generally drink 2 cups of tea a day (small mug really so about 200mls a time), anything between 250-500ml of water, maybe a 330ml can of diet coke (must stop this) and then if I?m not drinking alcohol, I?ll probably have 500ml of squash at home.

I think so long as you?re not thirsty, so long as you?re not going to the loo every five minutes and so long as you think you?re drinking the right amount for you then it?s fine to drink whatever amount suits you. I think the premise behind ?2 litres of water to be healthy? is the fact that if you?re drinking water instead of sugary drinks your teeth, skin, etc will benefit. I also think some of it is a big con by Evian, etc. Wink

twinkle it's so fab to hear you're feeling good! Enjoy tonight x

Therealamandaclarke · 05/09/2013 14:08

Good point about the water hazel I agree.
Reschedule your GP appt.

Have a good evening twinkle enjoy!

Off to FPC this pm. Having the BASTARD removed.

Hazelbrowneyes · 06/09/2013 08:41

Amanda so glad you got the chance to go to FPC ? I take it the BASTARD has gone now?

List:

  1. Drink 1l of water (I have to start slow) a day - nope
  2. Actually do some work - nope. Sat on the phone to bloody BT for most of the day instead.
  3. Exercise in some form for at least 10 mins a day - nope
  4. Shape and paint nails (need to remove week old, chipped nail varnish first ) ? shaped but not painted
  5. No alcohol - nope
  6. Moisturise daily, inc hands - nope
  7. Continue with face cleaning routine ? yes

I am useless! It?s my own list and I can?t stick to it. Only managed 3000 steps too.

Food:
B ? none
L ? tuna and sweetcorn sandwich (on white bread, argh!)
D ? salmon with noodles in a chilli oil
S ? mini cheddars, a bloody Feast ice cream

I had 2 glasses of wine in the garden (enjoying the last of the summer sun) and then went to the pub where I had??.
2 glasses of lime and soda Grin After that I had a glass of milk and went to bed feeling quite smug that I?d switched from alcohol to soft drinks with ease.

This weekend I plan on sorting my wardrobe to work out what I can wear to work in Autumn, possibly pop to a garden centre or two, do a full food shop, actually get off my backside and exercise, go through nail varnish, go through books and do a charity shop run. I also need to batch cook some soup as I have loads of celery and potatoes to use up.

I have loved summer and I will be sad to see it go, but being a fan of all seasons, I?m really looking forward to crisp Autumnal days. I do hope we?ll have a few more warm days to look forward to before Autumn really hits though! I?m going to do a clothes shop over next few weeks so I can feel good about myself whilst being warm, rather than wearing the same old crap clothes I?ve been wearing for years!

SixPackWellies · 06/09/2013 09:29

Morning all,

Well done on switching to soft after a couple of drinks hazel that is sometimes not easy!

Spent the day yesterday at the beach and had a giant picnic... Yum!

Have visitors this weekend. My aim is to eat whatever i like, but 1/3 less than usual, and to alternate wine with a pint of water. That is it. No more.

hope everyone has a great weekend!

OP posts:
Therealamandaclarke · 06/09/2013 09:35

hazel very well done on your drink swap!

BASTRD gone now. Obviously I still feel shit. We shall see.

Today:
Bf: mocha coffee.
L: probably panini as I've taken some out of freezer for DH's and DS's lunch.
D: grrrrr. dH has requested sausages (from the limited choice I offered him. Not sure if I want sausages. Might just have a tiny bit Hmm.

I didn't exercise yesterday (apart from a couple of miles walking slowly with pram).
I drank about 1.5 l water (will now include herb tea and squash in my 2 l target) and I ate (OMG) an entire bag of fruit pastels and two packets of hula hoops (simply must not have crisps in the house. I don'tlike DS to have them anyway) to recover from the pain of my coil fitting.
All men are utter utter bastards btw.

O&D FRs.

Therealamandaclarke · 06/09/2013 09:36

Hey sixpack excellent plan.

twinklestar2 · 06/09/2013 10:22

Quick menu post:

Muesli, sprinkles, milk
Not sure on lunch, need to grab something from outside
Pea and potato curry with a mini naan
Fruit and yoghurt

Might venture to the gym tonight.

SixPackWellies · 06/09/2013 11:22

Thanks Amanda.

and un-mnetty hugs.

OP posts:
twinklestar2 · 06/09/2013 22:12

Went for a 4km run, easing back in slowly.

SixPackWellies · 07/09/2013 07:57

Good for you twinkle! 4 km seems way more than I could ever manage.

I ate and drank too much last night.

gah!

Oh well- in the past. O & DW FR!

OP posts:
Therealamandaclarke · 07/09/2013 08:15

Yay twinkle superstar.

wellies don't worry. I have officially had last night entire bag of yorkie giant buttons removed from the archives of time. We are both free to start afresh.

Bf: weekend treat of toast (homemade bread) and marmite with my mocha coffee.
L: ???
Dinner: omelette with "actifry" chips and peas or salad.
Dull but simple and economic.
No bingeing. No snacking. Official.
I did manage some water, 30 push ups, 20 squats and some pedi- care yesterday

I think I'm already feeling less crappy. But as I've not had a decent sleep this week it's hard to tell. Thanks again for your support.

Hazelbrowneyes · 07/09/2013 10:16

Twinkle I love how a 4km run is you easing back into it slowly Grin Well done.

wellies It was Friday night! You?re allowed to eat and drink too much on Fridays Wink

Amanda Good going on the exercise and the pedi-care! Menu today looks nice ? sometimes simplicity is key. Glad you're feeling less crappy x

Yesterday:
B ? none
L ? purchased chicken and veg pasta but whoever made it had smothered it in a mustard mayo so it was inedible. Then I purchased falafel and salad but didn?t really like that either. So I wasted £5.50 on 2 lunches that I had about 3 mouthfuls of each.
D ? chorizo and spaghetti in chilli oil
S ? mini cheddars, twix

I only had one glass of wine last night. Not to go into detail, because quite frankly, if I do, it?ll bubble all up to the surface again and I?ll spend another day fizzing with anger, but my DH was an absolute arsehole to a stranger yesterday and I?m mortified that he acted like that. I let him know exactly how I felt about his behaviour and then decided it?d be better if I stayed at home whilst he went to the pub as I didn?t want to be near him. I can only put his behaviour down to stress. He?s burnt out. I can see it but he?s refusing to admit it. Unfortunately thanks to me needing glasses, DH ?needing? a new Dyson and the car needing two new tyres, a holiday seems completely out of the question at the moment. He seems suitably embarrassed by his actions so I?m doing my best to be nice and actually look at him today.

Today:
B ? eggy bread
L ? no idea
D ? probably sausage and mash

DH is sorting the kitchen cupboards today (this is how I know he?s stressed. He likes to clean and tidy when he?s stressed) and I?m planning on sorting clothes, books, accessories, nail varnishes, etc. I might also start on a plan for Christmas Blush I?m going to go to the charity shop today as I keep meaning to go and never get a chance. Tonight I?m going to open the bottle of Muscadet that has been taunting me for months and paint my nails.
