oh dear well and truly fallen off the wagon and feeling really shitty because of it Blush i just cant get into morning workouts i can get up but the workout is sooo much harder than if i were doing it later on, do i need to persist? do you think it will get easier?
Really need to get back into shape but finding a happy balance pf work family and my excersise time is really hard does anyone have any tips?

Jacksterbear · 13/05/2013 13:45

mothersmilk don't beat yourself up, just determine to make a fresh start and forget what's done. I am not a morning person either, so morning workouts just don't work for me. I would rather do them at 10 at night than first thing, and quite often do! Not ideal, but only way to fit them in sometimes! You need to find a way that is going to work and be realistic and sustainable for you. You are not going to find the perfect time because there is always going to be something getting in the way, but find the best time you can and stick to it. Is my advice, fwiw. Smile

3steps sorry u are feeling crappy. Flowers

Jacksterbear · 13/05/2013 17:37

Just done L1 ES&S again, enjoyed it, could definitely see doing it with heavier weights to up the challenge. 3steps, I was thinking of your comments when I did those 2 jiu jitsu moves, and was channelling my inner "graceful but mean kung fu fighter". Grin

CHST · 13/05/2013 21:27

Happypiglet I hate those lateral v raises too. I can honestly say they are my most hated move at the moment!
threesteps hope you are feeling better soon.

As for me, I worked out that there are about three months till my holiday and wanted a new challenge so did day 1 of p90x today eek!. My arms are hurting a bit at the moment but it was quite a good workout. Lots of push up variations today including diamond push ups which i utterly sucked at. Still you've gotta start somewhere. I am using push up bars which makes it a lot harder as the range of motion is so much more. I am going to try so hard to clean up my eating also.
Anyway will let you all know how I am getting on. I don't like quitting half way through a programme but well I guess I have done BR before. I just wasn't feeling challenged enough I guess. I would finish the workout and still feel like there was quite a bit in the tank. I guess I am used to the high I feel when Insanity or Bob wipes me out.
Her kickbox fast fix is really cool by the way...did it again the other day all three workouts back to back and that is tiring.
Will be lurking to check in how you are all doing!

threestepsforward · 14/05/2013 21:20

Evening all!

Go CHST, good luck with the new challenge! Is 90x another of the Insanity type programmes

Keep us updated on your progress, it's always good to hear :)

Jackster are you into E S&S now, and channelling your inner kung fu warrior? Grin

(lots of warrior work in L2 too!)

Aw Mothersmilk, bless you, like Jackster said, don't beat yourself up...
Some people just aren't cut out for early morning exercise - (I definitely fall into that category - I just can't get myself going at that time of day!).

Could you look at your week and see if there's a way you can shuffle things around to free up 20 mins or so in the afternoon / evening? I'm probably not the best to give tips as I don't have DCs to attend to, just work, life in general and the DD (dear dog).

Don't fret, I'm sure you'll work something out xx

As I thought 2 days off - felt not right yesterday, bit weak and wobbly. I felt fine today but I was out so couldn't exercise. Will be back on it tomorrow.

Will check in tomorrow :)

Happypiglet · 15/05/2013 09:28

Hi all
Did another L2 yesterday...did a bit better with those V raises but still cannot do full two sets even with 1kgs! onwards and upwards.
CHST- do tell about p90x sounds hard!
Day off today- Governor work to do. I have decided Weds and one day at weekend will be my rest days. I ache less than I did but feel physically tired if I don't have a break mid week.

mothersmilkandherchickenseggs · 15/05/2013 10:11

thanks guys this thread is really great for keeping motivation up mon i did nmtz and kbat tues i did nmtz this tday will be rest day as i have dsthis morning and work late (that is unless when i get home dh needs to go and work in that case i will do something to pass time) its amazing how quickly it comes back. I think with meits very much a mental thing i look in the mirror after just one workout and automatically i see someone slimmer and firmer (dont know if thats actually what i look like but thats what i see Wink )
threestepsforward hope your workout goes well today
jacksterbear there is always something to get in the way isnt there i think i just have a sever guilt complex about doing something for me my dh is very selfless and so if im anything less i feel bad even though it isnt an issue with him Confused

Ponks · 15/05/2013 21:34

mothersmilk I do the same thing with looking in the mirror after a workout & seeing myself fitter (albeit red in the face & v.sweaty). I feel so much better about myself when I exercise so I am trying really hard to do something every day even if only a little walk.

Today it was E S&S L1 + half of L2 - L2 has more exercises which I think could affect my knees so I moved on to something else. Really enjoy L1 though I think the first exercise in the first circuit (burpees with side jumps) is a tough one to start with.

CHST you are my new inspiration, I have never even done a double Shred workout and you do all 3 Kickbox fastfix workouts - wow! I must have a look on youtube for that one as I like the kickbox type workouts.

eslteacher · 15/05/2013 22:38

I did Shred for the first time ever today! I was doing OK until those side lunge things with arm weights at the end, they killed me! I have never been able to do a proper push up my whole life, so am eager to see if I will be able to do a non-cheat one by the end of Shred.

The only other JM thing I had previously done was Yoga Meltdown. That one felt much more about core strength and body-weight toning, and was probably the same level of hard as Shred L1 for me, but in a different way. I liked the efficiency of Shred though, and all her little stern reminders about having to put a lot in if you want to get something out. I'll definitely keep doing it, but not every day as I like mixing my workouts a bit.

threestepsforward · 17/05/2013 09:57

Morning all!

Happypiglet I drop down to 1.5 for those horrid raises, and by the end of the 2nd go round I'm grimacing horribly!

Ponks and Mothersmilk, I know what you mean! I actually think my face looks nicer after a workout(!?) Not when totally puce/sweaty (BFBM) but when it's glowing gently!

Welcome to the thread riverboat and well done on starting the Shred journey! Don't worry if you ache like buggery the next few days, this is completely normal. Try and keep going. Agree with you those last arm raises are a killer!

I'm doing well here. Took Monday and Tuesday off as I thought but since then have done 2 x L1 ES&S. I'll be doing L2 today. Glad you're enjoying it Ponks - it's the DVD I love most at the moment. It doesn't feel like it's killing you, but I can certainly imagine it's toning and making you stronger, and I like the fact you're getting a taster of different things (martial arts, yoga, kickboxing), and I love the fact she's got me trying full push-ups!

The only things I think are a bit of a waste of good cardio time are the speedbags - may substitute them for something with a bit more oomph...

I probably find the warm-up the hardest bit! The endless jumping jacks...

Hope everyone has a great day :)

OP posts:
Happypiglet · 17/05/2013 13:03

L2 again today...that's five times this week- feeling chuffed with myself! Would like to say it is getting easier but....
I was thinking of buying ES&S Threesteps until you mentioned 'endless jumping jacks' I hate jumping jacks!

Jacksterbear · 17/05/2013 13:34

Nice one Happypiglet! Smile

3steps, nooo, speedbags = great (according to Tae Bo master Billy Blanks) for abs, triceps, biceps and shoulders, and cardio too... you just need to do them FAST (without hitting yourself in the face)!!! Wink

riverboat stick with the Shred, it's awesome, you'll love it.

Ponks agree with you re Burpees in L1 ES&S. That's the only bit I find really hard in it.

Just done NMTZ. Have such a love-hate relationship with it!!

mothersmilk re feeling selfish, you have to look at it like this: you are doing a great thing for your family (I think you have DCs, hope I'm not wrong!) by a) giving them a healthy role model and b) keeping yourself in good health mentally and physically so you are better able to look after them. I feel the same as you though, and have to keep reminding myself of this!

Happy weekends everyone. Smile

threestepsforward · 17/05/2013 14:25

Well done on the 5 in a week happypiglet, and L2 at that!
The jumping jacks in S&S are only in the warm-up, so once you've done that they're gone for good!! (the warm up is the same for both levels).

Jackster that's good to know, thanks! I try and go as fast as I can but it's like a tongue twister! I'll keep at them though if Billy B says they're good Grin I find I can go faster if I don't ball my hands into fists - aerodynamics lol?!

Big well done on doing NMTZ - that DVD has one of my all-time hardest things - the pendulum lunge with serving biceps, ow ow ow!

Hope everyone is doing well and has a great weekend. I'll check in at some point to hopefully report having done a double :)

OP posts:
Jacksterbear · 17/05/2013 15:17

Are you thinking of the backwards lunge with side raises 3steps? (The one in circuit 1 NMTZ.) The pendulum lunge with serving biceps is, I think, in Ripped L2. (Accompanied by one of my fave JM lines "here you are... here's your ripped body..." when she does the "serving" bit Grin).

Ponks · 17/05/2013 21:06

Ok hands up everyone who has hit themselves in the face doing speedballs. Blush Maybe its because I try to make them more cardio by bouncing at the same time i.e. like a boxer - was a move like that in Body Combat & I'm sure I used to have more coordination then!

Tried 6W6P L2 tonight - wasn't expecting much as was a bit "meh" about L1 - but found it was surprisingly tough, and had a good workout.

happypiglet well done with 5 L2s! That's a tough week for you.

Jacksterbear · 18/05/2013 08:32

. I bounce as well; that's how they do them in tae bo so that's just how I automatically do them.

Agree with you re 6w6p L1vs L2. I think L2 is a great cardio workout and good on both legs and abs.

fadingblonde · 18/05/2013 16:02

Afternoon all!

I've been lurking on here for the past month, I've had a sinus infection that's just gone on and on so I've not been exercising. After three weeks I finally got to see a dr and got some antibiotics and a nasal spray. I finished the antibiotics last night so I started Jillianing again today :)

Just level 1 shred as that seemed a good place to start...I almost feel like a beginner again!

gingercat12 · 18/05/2013 21:17

Good evening, Ladies!

It seems I have survived BR, but waited a week just to be sure Grin. I will soon re-start it from workout 7 I think.

I spent this week doing KB, as it is my favourite and it was my reward.

Just ordered Bob's Pure Strength. When will I ever have the time?!

Have a super weekend! DH and I have a really bad cold,we are not happy bunnies.

ChristineCartlidge · 19/05/2013 11:23

Love love Jillian (favourite is KB&T) but sometimes to tough for me. Have you tried Total Cardio Burn? Just got it. Similar to Jillian but at a more doable level.

eslteacher · 20/05/2013 13:02

Just did Level 1 Shred, reached the end and felt really pumped still so went back to the first circuit and did it all again. Woo. Still having trouble with the lateral lunges and bicep curls though, I feel like I want to die every time.

I'm recording food and exercise in My Fitness Pal at the moment - have been basing Shred calories burned on the circuit training option, which calculates 160 cals per 20 mins for my weight and height. Does that sound right to you?

ginger cat, hope you and your DH feel better soon

threestepsforward · 20/05/2013 18:51

Well done everyone who's still on the Shredmill (or anything mill).

I have failed dismally since Friday as my pesky back has gone again :( The litmus test is always gardening and I could barely straighten up after bending over to plant stuff...

Not sure how I've gone backwards so drastically, but am laying off the exercise for the mo until I get an appointment to see the chiro. Wasn't due to go back for 3 weeks but I'll try and get in sooner now...

Hope everyone else is doing well and will hopefully be back with you all soon :)

(p.s. Jackster yes I did mean those, side arm raises and pendulum lunges, horrible!)

OP posts:
Happypiglet · 20/05/2013 19:30

Sorry to hear that Threesteps how frustrating. Hope you can get it sorted soon.
Hope cold getting better Gingercat
Riverboat that sounds insane- I usually reach the end of a JM and collapse on the floor!
Well did Shred L3 for first time today...I had forgotten my love hate relationship with it. Some bits I find easy ESP circuit 1 and 3 strength...but circuit 2 strength is awful....I had forgotten jumping lunges...ugh...
Also the last circuit of cardio is a killer jumping squats and rock star jumps... I can already feel my quads ceasing up.
Need to make this week count as off camping over half term and will eat too much fried stuff.. Altho the weather looks like being so cold that I will prob burn loads of cals keeping warm!!

Jacksterbear · 20/05/2013 19:33

riverboat double shred!! Woo hoo! Great work. I log a shred as 20 mins circuit training on mfp too, although for me it calculates a higher calorie burn (maybe taller and/or heavier than you?)

Welcome christine, tell us more about Total Cardio!

3steps Sad so sorry your back has gone again, what a nightmare. gingercat hope u are recovering.

Anyone remember when notyummy's op is? Must be around now! Hope she's ok. Come and let us know, notyummy, if u are around!

Jacksterbear · 20/05/2013 19:35

X-posts Happyp, well done on L3. Smile

Happypiglet · 21/05/2013 10:20

Hi Just checking in(it helps me stay motivated). L3 again today...actually enjoyed it... but must admit to not jumping in the jumping lunges!
Hope everyone else's work outs go/ went OK!
