Stop Bingeing and Start Eating Healthily Thread

SnowyWellies · 24/01/2013 06:21

Would anyone like to join me? I am a yo yo dieter, a failed WW (could not bear the small portions) failed SW (went wild on Free foods) and I eat too much of the wrong sorts of food. I binge then starve and I want to get out of that cycle. I also enjoy my evening 3 glass of wine a little too much! I feel bloated, pasty, tired and I hate how I look in the mirror. I am about to hit 40, and I refuse to spend any more time hating myself. I want to deal with my psychological food issues, and I want to finally be the woman I am meant to be.

I am 5 ft 2 and weigh 11 stone 3.

My aim- to increase fruit and veg. To cut out wheat as I bloat very badly on wheat. To take as much care over my own diet as I do over the diets of my children and my husband. To not treat my body like a rubbish bin.

As of this morning. I am tired. My skin is pale and blotchy. I am very bloated in the stomach. I am aiming to lose 24 pounds, but want to do it properly and without feeling deprived. I want to make this process luxurious, with a focus on gorgeous healthy food.

Today's plan:

Breakfast - fruit and natural yoghurt with a drizzle of honey.

Lunch - home made carrot and coriander soup.

Dinner - fresh veg risotto.

I need ideas for delicious alcohol-free drinks. Currently I love a splash of grapefruit juice and soda water.

Anyone want to join me? The focus is on good food, and to deal with the psychological issues around bingeing and self hatred. I am not a psychologist, just someone who needs- and can offer support!

Weigh in days will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Menu
Fruit and fibre and ss milk, apple

Soup, bag of French Fries crisps

Dinner was Indian meatballs, rice and khobez wrap

Emilythornesbff · 20/05/2013 22:16

sixpack I honestly think you did ok actually.
You probably ate more than you planned but you skipped breakfast and lunch, which gave you some fasting benefits as well as the experience of recognising your real hunger.

Feeling crap about yourself is horrible, I know. But I'm very grateful you started this thread because it is helping me and I can see it helping other ppl here too.
Go easy on yourself.

Em

SixPackWellies · 20/05/2013 22:18

Thanks Em. I am writing today off and will approach tomorrow with a new frame of mind.

I do feel like I must secretly hate myself though to abuse my own body this way.

Thanks foir saying the thread has helped though. :) It HAS helped me too, because at least I am trying to address how I approach food and my feelings around food. That's good, right?

Thanks
Emilythornesbff · 20/05/2013 22:22

Good going too baking and iheart

Well done 50shades and banana cookies. Yes please. Feel free to share that recipe. Ds would love them I think

Tomorrow Is a non fasting day and I'm looking forward to eating well but must remember not to snack. It's not a good habit and never gives the comfort it promises Grin

Emilythornesbff · 21/05/2013 06:02

So.
Today is a non fasting day (NFD) and I am looking forward to a nice dinner of lasagne. But.
I must not snack.

I must remember that the "chocolate biscuits" offer immediate gratification. They do taste nice and they offer a seductive comfort in the short term. But. If I avoid snacking, even after a couple of weeks I will notice the difference in my body. I WILL be lighter and my thighs will be slimmer. Sometimes I forget that but it is true.

Onwards and downwards fellow revolutionaries.

50shadesofbrown · 21/05/2013 06:46

Hi Emily as you asked so nicely

soft banana cookies.

3 large ripe bananas
180g stoned dates, finely chopped
160g oats [you can use coarse, fine or a mixture]
1tsp vanilla extract
80g ml oil or 80g butter, melted

mash the bananas in a large bowl. Add remaining ingredients & mix well. Leave for 20 mins to allow oats to absorb some of the liquid.
Preheat oven to 180°c & get a cookie sheet/baking tray, line with a silicone liner.
Put spoonfuls of the mixture on the tray evenly spaced, I use a 30cm square tray & can fit 4x4 on it. They won't spread in the oven so flatten & smooth them out to shape them with the spoon. Bake in the Preheated oven for 15-20 mins.

These are best eaten within a couple of days. I've worked them out on MFP & assuming a batch of 16 they are each:
126 calories
19g carbs of which 11g sugar
5g fat

I gave one to my DD last night, she's just turned one & only 'got' self feeding a month ago so still a bit clumsy but she was pretty determined with these. They are pretty soft so probably ok if they don't have many teeth.

Emily hope your fast goes well today, just remember it's taking you closer to your goal.
Wellies I think I know how you feel about the food/hating yourself. I often wonder if that's my issue & why. Some issues from my childhood, but my Dsis doesn't have history of ED so I wonder why I'm so screwed up about food. Wonder if it's just pot luck & if it wasn't that it could be something else (glass half empty moment).

Emilythornesbff · 21/05/2013 06:55

Thank you for that recipe 50 shades ds will like those I think.

I think dr m advises against fasting if you have a history of ED. I expect it's something to do with triggering "extreme" behaviours around food.

Looking forward to my morning coffee.

SixPackWellies · 21/05/2013 07:22

Good morning all.

Oddly, 10 stone 9 this morning, so 2 pounds down since yesterday. Hmm

weight fluctuations alert.

no plans for today. Just hope to not go wild on anything.

I think my issues around food are learned behaviour.... I spent my whole entire life seeing my mother behave in the way I do now, and be obsessed about food. I am so fed up with it, and want to just have a normal relationship with food.

Hazelbrowneyes · 21/05/2013 07:48

9st 3lbs this morning. WEEEEEEP. 3lbs on. Pretty much back to square one. No surprise given my weekend and yesterday

Yesterday:
B ? None
L ? Tuna and sweetcorn pasta with shit loads of mayo
D ? Rump steak, chips (done in the deep fat fryer), onion rings (done in the deep fat fryer), salad, prawns.
S ? Fruit, twirl, 1 piece galaxy, water, sparkling water, 3 cups of tea.

Poop. Did manage to do some weights, crunches and squats though.

Still, this morning has started off well, I?m in work already and have received a fairly nasty email so I now feel sick and unlikely to want to eat today.

Today:
B ? half a grapefruit, glass of water
L ? salad leaves, cucumber, tomato, sweet pepper, egg & a small amount of grated cheese. Won?t have any mayo with it as I stupidly left that at home.
D ? It was going to be seabass but I?ve just realised I forgot to take it out the freezer this morning so now it?ll be chilli with cauli rice.
S ? Melon, water, tea
E ? given the fact I now have 3 sodding weeks to lose 7lbs, I?ll be exercising tonight.

No alcohol during the week (easier said than done seeing as I already feel the need for a gin) & I might not drink over the weekend. I definitely have to exercise now as well. Going to aim to do my weights, crunches and squats daily on top of 5-6 cardio sessions a week.

Could cry ? cannot believe I?ve undone an entire weeks worth of hard work by being a pig over the weekend and yesterday.

Emilythornesbff · 21/05/2013 08:29

hazel Sad
But..... You over indulged at the weekend, and haven't gained overall which means that your earlier efforts were not in vain. That's maintaining.

Stay calm.
I have a non fasting at today and I'm trying not to snack. I am not going to eat of I'm not hungry. Just had a substantial breakfast but I plan to skip lunch and have lasagne and salad for dinner.

Bakingnovice · 21/05/2013 08:39

Hazel - don't fret. It'll be water weight, not actual fat. If you're good today food wise it'll be gone by tmrw morning. Sorry you've had a bad start to the day with an email. I know how that feels. Drink lots of water today.

Emily - when I was fasting I found that on nfd I tended to have a late brekkie and then one big main meal. It changes your appetite.

Wellies - I totally agree with you re body issues. I too suffer from
Periods of self loathing. It comes from having no self esteem courtesy of a difficult childhood. No matter what I achieve its never enough.

Emilythornesbff · 21/05/2013 19:29

I.
NFD today. I had a large breakfast and an indulgent dinner but no snacks and no lunch.
Feeling quite pleased with myself.
It does save time not having three meals Grin

Hope you're all well.
Onwards and downwards fellow revolutionaries.

twinklestar2 · 21/05/2013 21:41

Wow hazel look at the difference between your yesterday menu and today's menu!

50shadesofbrown · 21/05/2013 22:30

Hi all! I've decided I'm definitely knocking fasting on the head for now, going to try a more traditional approach (perhaps closer to the PM approach) as my appetite fluctuates fairly wildly. And, like Emily said, it's not ideal if ED are an issue. I've also finally finished reading through the thread & have decided:
Mini goals - this week I am going to start wearing my ankle weights to walk to work, it's about 2k each way. I already walk there & back each day.
Rewards - if I'm struggling with my goal but achieve it, I'll treat myself to one small thing at the weekend (non-food) eg paint my nails, face mask, etc. If I'm no longer struggling with it, carry on with it but time to set a new goal as well.
I am going to stop weighing myself so often. Monday only.
I will beat this, it will not beat me.

Emilythornesbff · 22/05/2013 04:15

Good thinking 50 shades

OMG. I overdid the garlic. Mouth feels horrid Grin

SixPackWellies · 22/05/2013 07:01

Morning all. All good plans, 50.

Me today:

B- black coffee, toast, boiled egg, piece of fruit
L- spicy tomato soup
D- cold roast chicken with lots of salad vegetables.

no cal drinks all day.

Hazelbrowneyes · 22/05/2013 08:12

Morning!

Feeling much better today, probably because I stepped on the scales this morning and saw 8st 13lbs. OMG! (I actually got on them 3 times just to make sure I wasn?t seeing things!) So baking you might have been right! I?m now in a quandary?keep up my obsession with the scales to keep me on track or cherish this moment and never, ever look at them again!

Emily how was your lasagne?
twinkle I know! I strangely preferred my healthy day too!
Good ideas there 50
Wellies I bow down to your extremely healthy menu today. Love spicy tomato soup too! Yum.

Yesterday:
B ? half a grapefruit, glass of water
L ? salad leaves, cucumber, tomato, sweet pepper, egg & a small amount of grated cheese. No mayo.
D ? Chilli with cauli rice
S ? Melon, water, tea, sparkling water, 1 mini milk (99p for 8 in Aldi and bloody lovely)
E ? I didn?t actually exercise. Oopsies.

To be fair, I got home late, cooked dinner and made today?s lunch, by the time I?d sat down it was gone 9pm.

Today:
B ? soft boiled egg, ½ slice best of both, small glass orange juice
L ? salad leaves, cucumber, tomato, egg and a small amount of grated cheese. No mayo.
D ? Seabass but I?m not sure what to have it with. Probably salad. Maybe some sautéed potatoes. Anyone got any ideas?
S ? melon, water, tea, sparkling water
E - I?m making no promises Grin

Not drinking during the week is making a huge difference to how I feel. My skin looks fab(ish), I?ve got more energy ? I?ve been in work an hour already.

The only downside to losing weight is my favourite work dress is a bit too big. Boo.

Hope everyone is feeling good this morning. I don?t think I could do this without you lot by the way, the support from you guys is fab, so thank you xxx

You know even if I ever get to goal, I?m not leaving don?t you? You?ll have to force me out and lock the door Grin Mind you, by then we should all be on a ?Don?t we all now look FABULOUS?!? thread together Wink

iheartshoes · 22/05/2013 08:21

Morning ladies
So I stuck to under my maintainace cals yesterday, did not eat healthily at all though so will need to work on that . Although a horrible incident with DD last night meant I didn't want any supper ! I dropped her in the bath she was only under for a nano second but still felt such a bad mummy :( anyway it completely took away my appetite for dinner just had a peice of toast in the end ! Second fast day today drinking coffee with skimmed milk ATM . Going to try and last until Kate afternoon again with just drinks - got some homemade sweet potato and lentil soup which plan to have for dinner plus salad leaves, cucumber and cottage cheese. Good luck with the eating today girls

iheartshoes · 22/05/2013 08:23

Oh congrats on the weigh in ! Fantastic ! You've inspired me to keep with it . Looking forward to the final "aren't we fabul

iheartshoes · 22/05/2013 08:24

Oops meant to say final aren't we fabulous thread when we are all at goal !! Must be such a lovely feeling being 8st something am very envious

Hazelbrowneyes · 22/05/2013 08:54

Thanks iheart. Definitely keep at it. It looks like you're doing well, under maintenance cals is great! You're not a bad mummy at all. Try not to beat yourself up about it Good luck with your fast day xx

Bakingnovice · 22/05/2013 10:44

I heart you ate not s bad mummy! But I know how you feel. I once dropped my baby ds and he had a big s ratchet up his back. I cried for days!

Hazel - omg. I am so happy for you and so jel too. Well done. It's weird but sometimes having a day of crazy crazy calories results in a whoosh of weight loss. I'm chuffed for you.

Emily - you can never overdo garlic. I love it. How's fasting going?

Wellies- menu sounds great. Very healthy.

50 shades - hope you're doing ok today. As for me, I really want to lose this week. Even just a pound. I'm delighted that I'm exercising with a bit of walking and shred. I have a tendency to overdo it (think 15 mile walks a day!) but have been forcing myself to only do it every other day. I've been really good this week and just want a loss FFs. I'm restarting fasting next week and am worried about eating my tdee as I've really cut back. Anyway, wishing us all a great whooooosh of weight loss.

iheartshoes · 22/05/2013 15:21

baking that walking is impressive ! Good for u.
Fast going ok so far just had some crispbreads and cottage cheese reckon around 150 cals . Am having prawn stir fry for tea tonight now . I'm not actually finding the hunger too bad am more light headed really so had the crispbreads just now to stop that before I go out
Hope everyone is having a good Wednesday

SixPackWellies · 22/05/2013 16:26

You are not a bad mum iheart. The point is, you were right there and able to get your DD. I dropped DS once when he was about 5 days old, out of the moses basket as i was picking him up. i totally totally freaked, then set my alarm all through the night so I could check he was still breathing and not floppy every 30 minutes. Hmm. As it was, he kind of bounced off the dog onto the carpet so he was fine. Although not too impressed at having me prod him every 30 minutes....

The dog was also not that thrilled with things either. Grin

Emilythornesbff · 22/05/2013 17:21

hazel great news on the scales. Well done.

iheartshoes poor thing. It's so scary when there's an accident. Fwiw, dunking underwater is common practice at the most expensive swimming classes. Good fasting today. Prawn stir fry sounds great.

baking well done with all that walking.

Last night's lasagne was lovely.
I have had chocolate hob nobs today Blush quite looking forward to tomorrow's fast so I don't have to think about my food.
I think moving into summer meals will be good. Meat / fish with salads. All a bit lighter.
Not like the Chinese takeaway we're having tonight Blush
