Stop Bingeing and Start Eating Healthily Thread

Would anyone like to join me? I am a yo yo dieter, a failed WW (could not bear the small portions) failed SW (went wild on Free foods) and I eat too much of the wrong sorts of food. I binge then starve and I want to get out of that cycle. I also enjoy my evening 3 glass of wine a little too much! I feel bloated, pasty, tired and I hate how I look in the mirror. I am about to hit 40, and I refuse to spend any more time hating myself. I want to deal with my psychological food issues, and I want to finally be the woman I am meant to be.

I am 5 ft 2 and weigh 11 stone 3.

My aim- to increase fruit and veg. To cut out wheat as I bloat very badly on wheat. To take as much care over my own diet as I do over the diets of my children and my husband. To not treat my body like a rubbish bin.

As of this morning. I am tired. My skin is pale and blotchy. I am very bloated in the stomach. I am aiming to lose 24 pounds, but want to do it properly and without feeling deprived. I want to make this process luxurious, with a focus on gorgeous healthy food.

Today's plan:

Breakfast - fruit and natural yoghurt with a drizzle of honey.

Lunch - home made carrot and coriander soup.

Dinner - fresh veg risotto.

I need ideas for delicious alcohol-free drinks. Currently I love a splash of grapefruit juice and soda water.

Anyone want to join me? The focus is on good food, and to deal with the psychological issues around bingeing and self hatred. I am not a psychologist, just someone who needs- and can offer support!

Weigh in days will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Ooh sixpack looks like we'll need you to start us on a new thread soon. We're in the 900s!

SixPackWellies · 19/05/2013 18:37

I'm in!

Never thought there would be two threads!

50shadesofbrown · 19/05/2013 22:46

Yay second thread!

Wellies I'm not doing 5:2 any more, but I was & found it was easier just not to eat until tea time. I've heard a lot of people say that having breakfast just wakes up the appetite, it certainly did for me.

I've done moderately ok today, stuck to my meal plan, but had cup of cocoa (skimmed milk, sweetened with Stevia, so not too horrendous) & 3 fig biscuits. But, it was a damned sight better than I usually manage on a weekend. Tomorrow I'm having:
B fruit, yoghurt, maybe some muesli.
L boiled egg, salad, low fat dressing, crispbread.
D homemade low fat smoked mackerel pate, crispbread, salad.

I made some chocolate truffles out of my 'Cook Yourself Thin' cookbook as I reckon these are a better option than a Kitkat chunky. I think they work out less than 50 calories each.

twinklestar2 · 20/05/2013 00:18

Hey girls, sorry I've been AWOL but I was doing BIWI's bootcamp but not really sticking to it!

Back to what I was doing before which is mainly no bread, rice, pasta or potatoes which was working for me and I was happy doing it.

I've been keeping up the running and I ran 55 mins non stop today and covered 7.5km! Very pleased!

Today's menu was:

Brunch - Sausages

Dinner - pie and green beans

Latte, small slice of vic sponge

I've managed to stick to no sugar in my hot drinks too! And minimum alcohol which is really helping!

Will let you know my weigh in result tomorrow.

SixPackWellies · 20/05/2013 07:37

Good morning! Welcome back twinkle! Those choc truffles sound gorgeous 50, could you share the recipe?

I am going to try fasting today and Thursday. I must check out the threads, but the plan for today is indeed not to eat until dinner (I am usually okay with that) and then have spicy thai tofu and veg soup for dinner, and no alcohol.

weighed in this morning... 10 stone 11. I am also going to weigh every day to try and keep a handle on things for a while.

have good days!

50shadesofbrown · 20/05/2013 07:47

Wow twinkle that's amazing, I think I would probably die if I ran that far/long. I just checked my MFP, the chocolate truffles are 39 calories each so I will definitely not worry about having one occasionally. If anyone wants the recipe I can give it, it's slightly different than in the book.

50shadesofbrown · 20/05/2013 08:10

Haha x-post Wellies.

These are based on the truffles in the 'Cook yourself Thin' book, but I tweaked them to be less of a faff.

Makes 32 small truffles.

-200g dark chocolate, preferably 70%
-50ml cold espresso/orange juice/other flavour liquid, or you can use skim milk
-1tbsp honey or glucose syrup
-grated zest of an orange/1 tsp vanilla essence/other flavour as you want (optional as some of the liquids are enough to flavour the truffles).

melt the chocolate in a heat proof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Don't let the water touch the bottom of the bowl.
Add the chosen liquid & flavouring (if using) & stir gently. Don't freak out, it will seize & look ruined - it's not.
Add the honey/syrup & gently stir through, it should revert to a lovely smooth texture.

Get a 2lb loaf tin & line the bottom with cling film.
Pour the mixture into the tin, allow to cool, then place in the fridge to properly set.
Turn out & cut with a sharp knife into little cubes.
Roll in cocoa powder if you want, this will stop them sticking to each other but it's not essential.
Keep in a sealed jar or tub in the fridge, mine last for months (when I let them). About 39 calories each. Enjoy!

Emilythornesbff · 20/05/2013 08:11

Hi fellow revolutionaries.

Sounds like you're doing well 50shades yay!

Great work twinkle impressive.

Hi wellies I'm having my apple tea right now while ds has his breakfast. Morning is easy. I plan to have soup for supper.

Weight was 9st 3lb 6oz this morning.
Not much loss (

Hazelbrowneyes · 20/05/2013 08:53

Morning all.

So I failed MISERABLY this weekend. Weep.

B ? eat natural bar
L ? cheese and onion sandwich
D ? prawn and veg stirfry
S ? fruit, 2 cups of tea, water, 1 large glass of white wine spritzer, lime and soda.

Gutted that I failed AFTER going to the pub. Ended up at a friends house and thought it rude not to have wine.

Saturday:
B ? croissant and small glass orange juice
L ? 2 slices of toast with marg
D ? Pizza. Of the takeaway kind.
S ? 2 cappuccinos, 1 diet coke, 5 G&Ts, twiglets and 2 small glasses of red wine.

Sunday:
B ? a milk lolly Grin
L/D ? Tapas! We went to La Tasca so I had: Manchego cheese, Serrano ham, small bit of bread, almonds & olives to start (shared between 6 of us) then I had Spanish omelette and superfood salad. Shared chorizo with a friend. Finished off with sorbet. Yum.
S ? few sips of full fat coke, DH drank the rest before I had a chance, half bottle white wine, water.

So I guess it could have been worse but it could have been a lot better.

Stepped on the scales this morning and still 9st which is excellent.

Today:
B ? I have a croissant with me but not sure if I might skip breakfast
L ? leftover chilli
D ? no idea. Need to do a food shop!
S ? tea, water & maybe some fruit.

Hoping for a 2lb loss this week so need to be very strict. No alcohol this week ? this should be reasonably easy at weekends too because I?m probably not going to see the friends I end up drinking with due to other commitments. Phew.

Nice to see so many messages over the weekend, it?s nice to have a bit of a support network isn?t it?

Good luck this week all. xxx

iheartshoes · 20/05/2013 10:54

First fast day today, started with a bang when DD did a poo explosion all over the cream carpet (sob) . Feeling ok so far but know its early. My sugarless tea was surprisingly ok too! Planning to try and hold out until 2pm if I can before eating. Got a tin of veg soup for lunch and supper will be chicken and salad. Will be so proud of myself if I can actually do this ! This thread is lovely lots of support. Hazel your tapas meal on Sunday sounds delicious.

iheartshoes · 20/05/2013 10:56

And emily as the 5:2 expert can you tell me if I've got this right... I calculated my TDEE to be around 1700 calories , so is that what I am allowed to eat on non fast days? It sounds quite a lot and I don't want to undo the good work if I actually manage to do this.

Emilythornesbff · 20/05/2013 10:56

hazel it doesn't sound like you've failed.

Fasting today. I am feeling peckish but it's manageable and I'm keeping busy.
Off out for a good walk in a minute and meeting a friend for coffee. I'll have black coffee and herbal tea.

I really need to stop snacking on my NFDs.

Emilythornesbff · 20/05/2013 10:58

Yes iheart you can eat your TDEE on a NFD. Yours sounds very reasonable.
Over the course of a week you'll have a deficit. It does work.

Hazelbrowneyes · 20/05/2013 11:20

Crazy busy day here again and I don't think I'm going to get a chance to reheat my chilli (I know what's for dinner then!!) so I've bought a tuna sweetcorn pasta which should be lovely but she's covered it in mayo. Ick. It's so sickly. Not sure I can eat it. Haven't bothered with breakfast.

Enjoy your fasting day iheart and emily I might try for one of those tomorrow.

Hazelbrowneyes · 20/05/2013 15:20

Ok so not a great day here...

I've had most of the pasta (am starving), some of the fruit and a goddamn twirl!! ARGH. I will not let it sabotage the rest of todays efforts though. It's one mistake, right? My god it tasted good too. Right, an hour or so left at work, home, food shopping, exercising!

Oh...I did forget to share this earlier...I bought a cheap pair of jeans in Tesco about two months ago because I needed the next size up...put them on yesterday and they were far too baggy on the thighs and around the waist. Put on my normal sized jeans...fitted! Only a teeny muffin top too! Grin

Bakingnovice · 20/05/2013 15:26

Ooh hazel you are doing great.

Re fasting : I did it from last sept until about feb. I lost a few pounds and loved it although for me it was more useful for maintaining than losing. It's a brilliant diet though.

I was v good yesterday. Swerved ice cream, picnic food, fresh pakoras and pizza! All of which appeared during the day. However still no weight loss and no TOM. I hate being late, I feel all bloated and headachy. Urghhhh. I had to take my ds to drs today (then a&e although all is well) ended up having my breakfast at 3pm. And with 2 minutes before I had to do the school run I had a tiny flapjack! Not happy with that but I had no time on my hands, a blazing headache and needed sugar. I just can't seem to wean myself off sugar. Every few days I need a teaspoon in my tea or a bite of a biscuit. Am trying to stay positive by applauding the fact I've given up a lot so the odd spoon won't matter. Anyway, good luck fasters and dieters.

Emilythornesbff · 20/05/2013 18:11

hazel that's great news about the jeans. Well done.

Fasting is ok. I'm about to have my soup. Dh is dishing up a gorgeous smelling lasagne for him and ds. Envy

Good treat dodging baking

SixPackWellies · 20/05/2013 18:27

i am doing rubbish.

got to 3 pm, then ate tuna and mayonnaise on ryvitas, a bowl of soup, then a ham and cheese toasted sandwich.

have given up on the day and will re-think tomorrow. i am fed upo with myself. i hate living in my body, with my thoughts and as me.

going now to watch crap tv

SixPackWellies · 20/05/2013 18:27

But, on the plus side... am still on the thread. Confused

iheartshoes · 20/05/2013 18:40

Ok so first fasting day (almost) over with. Lasted till 615 with copious cups of tea ( just milk no sugar ), lots if water and herbal tea and a skinny cappuccino from cafe Nero. Have just had a big salad with roast chicken breast and cottage cheese. Might not be 500 calories exactly but shouldn't be too far over. Feel a bit shaky but otherwise not too bad

iheartshoes · 20/05/2013 18:41

But I would kill for a bar of dairy milk ...

Bakingnovice · 20/05/2013 19:04

Six pack - yay for finding a positive!

Iheart - am dairy milk is rank these days. It's so sickly I think they've changed the recipe. Not long until you can eat nicely!

Emily - lasagna here today. Oh the smell. I nearly died but stuck to my protein shake as I couldn't be bothered making something healthy for myself. When the smell of the accompanying garlic bread came through the house though I actually had to lick myself in the bedroom! Never ever make garlic bread when on a diet. It's the devil I tell you!

Bakingnovice · 20/05/2013 19:05

No no no! I didn't lick myself - I'm not that hungry! Lock myself it should read.

50shadesofbrown · 20/05/2013 20:07

Bakingnovice lol at the typo!

I've not had too bad a day. Didn't stick to the plan though. Had cereal for breakfast as no nice fruit in fridge (must plan better). Picked up DD & had to go to supermarket, avoid the snacks aisle (success!) & feed her lunch which DH had brought when he dropped her off, by the time I got home it was a bit late for lunch so I had a cup-a-soup. Homemade mackerel pate, salad & crackers for tea, & 2 banana cookies. Made a massive pot of vegetable curry to freeze so I've got something nice & easy when my willpower is weak.

The banana cookies went down a storm with DD as well - soft, naturally sweet, but full of good stuff. I may put them on the recipes page.

50shadesofbrown · 20/05/2013 20:15

I've just looked & they are already on there, disguised as a flapjack!
