Stop Bingeing and Start Eating Healthily Thread

Would anyone like to join me? I am a yo yo dieter, a failed WW (could not bear the small portions) failed SW (went wild on Free foods) and I eat too much of the wrong sorts of food. I binge then starve and I want to get out of that cycle. I also enjoy my evening 3 glass of wine a little too much! I feel bloated, pasty, tired and I hate how I look in the mirror. I am about to hit 40, and I refuse to spend any more time hating myself. I want to deal with my psychological food issues, and I want to finally be the woman I am meant to be.

I am 5 ft 2 and weigh 11 stone 3.

My aim- to increase fruit and veg. To cut out wheat as I bloat very badly on wheat. To take as much care over my own diet as I do over the diets of my children and my husband. To not treat my body like a rubbish bin.

As of this morning. I am tired. My skin is pale and blotchy. I am very bloated in the stomach. I am aiming to lose 24 pounds, but want to do it properly and without feeling deprived. I want to make this process luxurious, with a focus on gorgeous healthy food.

Today's plan:

Breakfast - fruit and natural yoghurt with a drizzle of honey.

Lunch - home made carrot and coriander soup.

Dinner - fresh veg risotto.

I need ideas for delicious alcohol-free drinks. Currently I love a splash of grapefruit juice and soda water.

Anyone want to join me? The focus is on good food, and to deal with the psychological issues around bingeing and self hatred. I am not a psychologist, just someone who needs- and can offer support!

Weigh in days will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Hi iheartshoesand bakingnovice. Jump aboard!

Bit naughty today (disheartened by unjust gain and visit from AF.) I had some dairy milk and a couple of biccies after dinner. Rest of the day was good though but I'm gonna ditch those yummy mugshots hazel because the buggers make me hungry with all their tasty carbs.

But tomorrow is a fasting day. That's a zero fast until 5pm when i have VLC chicken broth. I'm doing 4:3 this week rather than 5:2.

Had a lovely walk with dd in pram today. It makes such a difference to my mood to get out in the sunshine.
slimfit your mint lemonade sounds Sublime.

Emilythornesbff · 08/05/2013 09:11

Fasting today. I've had a white coffee (made by dh, seemed rude to refuse) then it's herbal tea and water until chicken broth time ths evening.
Weight still 9st6.

Hazelbrowneyes · 08/05/2013 09:41

Welcome Iheart and baking!

slim your mint lemonade sounds amazing, I must try that!

Em Shame the mugshots aren?t working for you! They?re great for me because I?m inherently lazy when it comes to making lunch Wink Doesn?t sound like you were too naughty yesterday. I?m still in awe of your ability to go all day without food. I don?t think I could do that.

So?I will apologise if this is long, it might be a bit of a brain dump. Yesterday was, quite frankly, shit. I had a terrible day at work, ended up losing it with a client, cried my eyes out and went home to sink a bottle of wine. As it happens, I had half a bottle & half a big bag of crisps with dip. Followed by a BBQ (Chinese marinated chicken ? 2 drumsticks & 2 pork chipolatas with a salad made up of tomato, onion, cucumber, chillis and EVOO, pretty yummy actually). I followed that with a milk lolly. I feel I?m on a path of self destruction because I?m so bloody stressed all the time.

Today I?ve eased my sunburnt body (not helping my mood, I can tell you!) into my favourite ?power? dress and jacket with killer heels ? I think part of yesterdays stress was because I wasn?t dressed like I usually am and I felt shit about myself. Still shouldn?t have yelled at a client though. Literally cannot stop cringing. I?m reminding myself that it is that time of the month which isn?t helping with the stress. I?m concentrating on one thing at a time and trying to push the feeling of being kicked in the stomach away as I know that?s purely down to stress. I have a long list of things that need doing but I?m not going to panic if they don?t all get done.

I?ve had a cup of tea without sugar this morning and it was actually really nice! My food diary for today is planned as:

B ? soft boiled egg with slice of best of both, small glass of OJ
L ? thai style mugshot
D ? something with minced meat as it needs to be used today. Probably chilli as I?m out of mushrooms. I think I?ll avoid the rice though and have it with salad.

S ? I?ll have another cup of tea, I have plenty of water here so no diet coke today which I think just encourages my brain to want crisps and chocolate. I?ll probably buy some fruit for an afternoon snack. I can?t guarantee I won?t finish the bottle of wine tonight, BUT if I do decide I want some, I will exercise first.

I need some proper bum kicking ? it?s nearly summer and nothing fits. I can?t afford to buy a whole new wardrobe, therefore I must lose some weight.

I need some of your motivation, you all seem to be doing so well! xx

Bakingnovice · 08/05/2013 09:46

Hazel I hope work is less stressful today. Work stress is shit.

Em - I used to really enjoy 5:2 and am looking forward to using it as maintenance once I lose another few pounds.

Emilythornesbff · 08/05/2013 10:38

Poor hazel. Wishing you a better day today.

Hazelbrowneyes · 08/05/2013 10:43

Thanks both. Of course, I've caved and got quavers and maltesers from the sandwich van. GAH.

I am such a loser

Still, I am probably going to be working long hours today so I will compromise and say if I end up eating the quavers or maltesers, I won't have wine tonight. Pretty much the same calories so not making a huge amount of difference to my overall intake for the day. Oh, must fill in MFP today, that tends to keep me on track.

I do appear to have lost my willpower though Sad

Emilythornesbff · 08/05/2013 10:51

Hazel. Ditch those quavers. They are not food! You will eat them and then feel hungry.
You have plenty of willpower. Harness it and get back on that bloody wagon. It will be worth it.

Hazelbrowneyes · 08/05/2013 11:03

Oops...too late...packet open. I'm useless!

I think I need to get back into the exercise seat - I automatically eat better when I exercise. Tonight, I will exercise, otherwise you all shun me tomorrow, deal?

Emily, you can do it. You've done so well. Have some water to keep you feeling full. Do something to take your mind off food...this is my biggest downfall...a desk job. Its so easy to just eat whilst working. Boo.

SlimFitWellies · 08/05/2013 13:24

Hazel, I am not doing well. I am just trying to keep my head above water and to not gain too much.

Don't worry about what is past. Look forward to the future (immediate) future with faith. :)

The mint lemonade is lovely, but quite tart, because I do not have a sweet tooth, so you can add more sugar if it is too lemony. But I am downing this like water, and had it by my bed overnight, and it was so refreshing.

I think I am gradually moving fairly solidly towards being a veggie though. I find I enjoy my veg days enormously and regret my meat days. Yesterday for dinner I had toasted pita, tabouleh, red pepper hummus and avocado slices for dinner, and it was just fresh and divine.

I need to cut back on the wine though.... while DParents are here we are having a bottle plus a bit more every day. I cannot handle that at all. So, today I will drink mint lemonade all day.

I am shaking pom poms at em and Hazel too. Grin

(needy- pls shake at me!!!)

Hazelbrowneyes · 08/05/2013 14:10
Grin
iheartshoes · 08/05/2013 15:49

Not having too bad a day here so far food wise ....

Breakfast x2 ham rolls with cream cheese
Snack - chunk of cheddar
Lunch - hummus and cucumber
Snacks - coffee with milk , water , x1 diet coke , small price of Madeira cake.
Dinner tonight will be home made chilli with salad.
Keep up the good work ladies , I'm really trying to keep to what was said earlier about already acting like a slim person , helped me resist a kit Kat chunky in morrisons earlier ... Baby steps !!

Emilythornesbff · 08/05/2013 18:07

.

SAHRum · 08/05/2013 18:44

well seeing as how we're all talking about how shit we're doing I'd like to put in my bid for the worst eating day this week, excuse being I was hungover and pre-menstral:

  • 2 slices toast with butter, fried egg, mushrooms cooked in butter, tomatoes, fried potatoes
  • glass of full fat coke
  • Jacket potato the size of a kitten with lots of butter and tuna mayo
  • glass of full fat coke
  • 2 finger kit kat
  • 1 full takeaway carton of sweet and sour chicken left over from the night before that I was too pissed to eat at the time, eaten in about 5 minutes whilst standing at the fridge with the door open
  • an apricot danish
  • MASSIVE homemade burger, inside a huge chunk of uncut white bread (no buns available) with chips and (another) fried egg
  • handful of cold chips left over from dinner just before bed.

WTF! Do I get the prize for being the greediest?
Damn you bank holiday Monday!!! Can't wait for tomorrow's weigh in.

The good news is that I've managed to get myself back on track today.

Hello new people

Emilythornesbff · 08/05/2013 20:04

SAHRum that sounds bloody delicious. Grin

iheartshoes · 08/05/2013 20:13

Loving my special pom Pom shake ! Wahoo ! Thanks Emily :)

iheartshoes · 08/05/2013 20:14

Mmmm sweet and sour chicken ... Dribble

Bakingnovice · 08/05/2013 21:32

Omg sahrum - I read your list three times. Some of my favourite foods on it. My personal fave is the chips and fried egg. That used to be our birthday special tea when growing up. Mmmmmm.

Emilythornesbff · 09/05/2013 07:30

Fellow revolutionaries. What a beautiful morning!
NFD here and I've enjoyed sugar free muesli with skim milk and a cup of tea.
Onwards and downwards FRs.

SAHRum · 09/05/2013 08:22

I sound like a pusher! oops!

so ladies the proof is indeed in the sweet and sour pudding, 1.3lbs up this morning Shock Nooooooooooooooooo! please tell me it's water weight from all those carbs and it being the time of the month.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggh!

Hazelbrowneyes · 09/05/2013 08:49

Morning all,

UGH. UGH. UGH.

So I didn?t exercise. I did drink the wine. Please don?t all shun me!

The day looked like this in the end:

B ? soft boiled egg with slice of best of both, small glass of OJ
L ? thai style mugshot
D ? Chilli with rice. Yes, yes, yes I know what I said about no rice!
S ? 1 cup of tea, 1 can diet coke, 1 packet of quavers, 1 bag of maltesers, 3 digestives, 1 milk lolly, half a bottle of wine.

I feel motivated today though. I?ve had the usual breakfast & I?m having a cup of tea with skimmed milk and no sugar whilst I ease myself into the working day.

I have baked potato with salad for lunch. No butter but I may have a bit of extra light mayo. I will send one of my colleagues out to the van today to get fruit so I?m not tempted by yummy chocolate. No idea what dinner tonight will be. We do have a lot of chipolatas left so I might do a casserole type thing with those. I have no alcohol at home so definitely having an alcohol free night. I?ve already written a list of what I want to do tonight and it does include exercise. Hopefully I?ll still feel motivated enough to do it when I get home!

I stepped on the scales again this morning because it?s an obsession I just can?t kick?9st 2lbs. I?m guessing that?s due to AF finally buggering off.

for all!

Well done for resisting the kitkats shoes
sah that looks like a mighty fine menu to me!! I eat like that when hungover too. Definitely water weight too.

I?m eating out at the weekend?typically it?s proper pub grub type stuff and I have no idea what to choose. I?ve tried to find nutritional info online but am drawing a blank. What do you normally choose when you?re eating out? Oh and please don?t say no alcohol because I am going to need to drink to get through the evening?

iheartshoes · 09/05/2013 13:53

When eating out I think it's always best to try and avoid anything too carby... Pub grub is difficult though , greasy pub chips are a weakness of mine so if you can avoid those think you'll be doing pretty well!
I was doing ok until 30 mins ago when I had a chocolate cookie.. One of those sainsburys ones you get in the packs of five so not a small one. I have a 2000 word essay due in a couple of weeks my mum is looking after my 4 week old dd while I get it done so I kind if got a bit stressed and ate it without really thinking. Didn't even really want it ! But apart from that I'm doing ok.

Breakfast - ham and cream cheese
Lunch - cucumber , cheddar and hummus
Dinner - got some lovely sausages will have with a salad and maybe a poached egg.
Snacks - the cookie of doom, tea and coffee, lots water.

Hazelbrowneyes · 09/05/2013 14:21

Well done shoes and I think the cookie can be forgiven if you're in the middle of an essay!

I didn't get any fruit mainly as it was pissing down with rain and no one would go out to the van! Not a bad thing, nothing else at work so I'll probably have another cup of tea soon and I've got plenty of water.

I've had another look at the menu.

Starters - I want deep fried brie or chicken liver parfait, but I'll go for the pea and mint soup, although that has a swirl of cream in it. Maybe I should go for the prawn cocktail? That's in marie rose sauce though.

Main - I want scampi and chips or salmon and colcannon fishcakes. I will go for one of these:
Pork belly on smoky bean cassoulet
Jambalaya with either red snapper or chicken skewers
Cherry tomato and basil penne pasta
Mushroom and squash risotto

Any ideas on which one of these is likely to be the healthiest?

Dessert is easy - fat free fruity sundae.

Sorry for being so needy, I think it's finally hit home how much I do want to lose this weight. Why does it always do that just before a meal out?!

twinklestar2 · 09/05/2013 20:27

Can you have steak and salad? That's always nice when eating out?

If it was me I'd have the scampi and swap the chips for salad.

Emilythornesbff · 09/05/2013 20:28

Oops!
Leapt off the wagon today. Grin. Took DS out and bought him an ice cream so of course I had one too. Blush. Then after dinneri had about 10 squares of dairy milk. (at least that pesky bar is all gone now).

Apart from that a healthy day Grin.

hazel if I were you I would choose a meal that you'll really enjoy. If it's naughty, leave some on the plate. Otherwise order the snapper and ask for it with a salad instead of the jambalaya if that's possible. Or have the fish cakes but no chips.

Well done iheartshoes

Hey ho. Fasting tomorrow.

Bakingnovice · 10/05/2013 09:46

Hi everyone. Enjoy your fast Emily. I loved 5:2 and should be backgo it soon.

I'm hoping I lose 2lb at weigh in tomorrow. I lost nothing last week. Despite eating very very well. I know I need to start exercise but just feel so so tired having given up sugar and carbs. I had so much energy doing 5:2 but it only really works as a maintenance plan for me.
