Would anyone like to join me? I am a yo yo dieter, a failed WW (could not bear the small portions) failed SW (went wild on Free foods) and I eat too much of the wrong sorts of food. I binge then starve and I want to get out of that cycle. I also enjoy my evening 3 glass of wine a little too much! I feel bloated, pasty, tired and I hate how I look in the mirror. I am about to hit 40, and I refuse to spend any more time hating myself. I want to deal with my psychological food issues, and I want to finally be the woman I am meant to be.

I am 5 ft 2 and weigh 11 stone 3.

My aim- to increase fruit and veg. To cut out wheat as I bloat very badly on wheat. To take as much care over my own diet as I do over the diets of my children and my husband. To not treat my body like a rubbish bin.

As of this morning. I am tired. My skin is pale and blotchy. I am very bloated in the stomach. I am aiming to lose 24 pounds, but want to do it properly and without feeling deprived. I want to make this process luxurious, with a focus on gorgeous healthy food.

Today's plan:

Breakfast - fruit and natural yoghurt with a drizzle of honey.

Lunch - home made carrot and coriander soup.

Dinner - fresh veg risotto.

I need ideas for delicious alcohol-free drinks. Currently I love a splash of grapefruit juice and soda water.

Anyone want to join me? The focus is on good food, and to deal with the psychological issues around bingeing and self hatred. I am not a psychologist, just someone who needs- and can offer support!

Weigh in days will be Mondays and Thursdays.

Well done stillstarving!

Have just had two cups of coffee with full fat milk, despite my hope to have calorie free drinks only. Had a very stressful morning, and it was either coffee or a lunchtime G&T!

Shagmundfreud · 17/04/2013 09:23

Hi all, can I join you?

I was doing low carb last year and it was good for weight loss. Got down to 10 and a half (I'm 5ft 6inches) so was only about 7lbs from where I wanted to be. However I started to find it incredibly restricting and the 'snap back' when I loosened the reins over Christmas was phenomenal. I've put all the weight back on and am now 11 stone 7 again. :-( Not massively overweight, but I'm really, really not happy with it.

I've decided to just focus on eating healthily, and not think too much about weight. I'm anaemic and hypothyroid, and struggling to cope with difficulties at home. I find I eat from exhaustion - I get the urge to eat fat and sugar in big quantities in desperate hope of getting a bit of energy, which I so sorely need. I would say tiredness is the biggest single factor in my over eating.

So - my strategy is this: 20 minutes a day on my mini-trampoline and an hour's dog walk. More sleep. Take my iron tablets regularly. And eat as many super foods as I can. I reckon if I can get my energy levels up and stop eating from exhaustion and stress, the weight will start to go down.

Today's meals:
Breakfast
Home made juice containing - apple, celery, cabbage, brocolli, carrot (it tastes lovely surprisingly!)
Oat cakes with mackerel pate (whizz a smoked mackerel with a bit of cream cheese, horshradish, black pepper and lemon juice)
6 dried prunes.

Lunch
Greek salad with olives, tomatoes, cucumber, onions, feta cheese.

Dinner

Can anyone suggest something nice? Smile

Will drink another fruit/veg juice this afternoon, plus some nuts and seeds at some point.

Emilythornesbff · 17/04/2013 11:15

Welcome shagmundfreud. I love oatcakes.
No idea about dinner I'm afraid. Can't decide what to have here either.

Juicing must be fun. But I'd worry about getting too much sugar with the fruit juices (not a problem for broccoli Grin ).

labootin, your breakfast sounds yummy. And slimfit today's menu looks great.
I had toast and marmite plus a yogurt for breakfast. (rare now to eat toast and it was delicious).
Bean soup for lunch.
Supper: no idea! At least it's not a fasting day, just keeping to no sweets, no bics and small portions of meals.

Emilythornesbff · 17/04/2013 11:15

Greek salad...... Mmmmm.

Hazelbrowneyes · 17/04/2013 12:00

Room for another one?

I have a stone to lose. For some reason, it completely hit home on Monday that I no longer want to struggle into clothes, or have a limited wardrobe due to naff all fitting.

I'm contemplating fasting but for now I'm just being sensible and calorie counting using MFP.

This weeks food so far:

Monday:

B - 125ml orange juice, croissant (dry)

L - salad with ham, 15g cheese and 1 hard boiled egg. Shamefully this wasn't enough so I devoured a chicken and sweetcorn wrap too.

D - chicken, chorizo and chickpeas with pasta in a tomato sauce

S - 2 cups of tea (1 sugar, skimmed milk), 750ml water, 750ml sparkling water, fruit salad.

MFP reckons a calorie intake of 1381

Tuesday:

B - 125ml orange juice, soft boiled egg, half a slice of best of both (toasted)

L - salad with 15g cheese, 1 slice ham, 100g (cooked weight) pasta

D - seared salmon fillet with a mango, lime and pineapple salsa on top of cos lettuce, red chard, carrot, spinach, soya beans, cauliflower (raw), pomegranate seeds salad with a fat free dressing.

S - 2 cups of tea (1 sugar, skimmed milk), 750 ml water, 4 gins & slimline tonics (I'm cringing about having to admit to that!), 1 hard boiled egg

MFP reckons a calorie intake of 1396

Today:

B - 125ml, soft boiled egg, 1 slice of best of both

L - mugshot - chinese style noodles

D - will be chilli with salad

S - 2 cups of tea (1 sugar, skimmed milk), red grapes. I'll stick to sugar-free squash tonight

MFP reckons this will be a calorie intake of 951 (might increase once I weigh my ingredients for chilli.

I'm aiming for 1400cal or less per day.

Anyone want to make any suggestions on my diet? I'll be upping the exercise this week too - I've been plagued with a cold for weeks but I'm determined to shift this weight.

Oh, stepped on the scales this morning (as I do every morning, I'm obsessed) and 1lb off Monday's weight. I don't care if that's water, it's motivating! Grin

Emilythornesbff · 17/04/2013 12:27

Hello hazel
You will lose weight on your menu.
You might find it more satisfying and easier to stick to if upu reduce sugars (orange juice and the sugar in your tea) and increase your protein (your eggy breakfast is good for example.)

I cba with having different food from rest of family (unless on a fasting day) so I would end up having rice with the chilli but just having a small portion by eating from a tea plate or leaving some food a la Paul McKenna. If you're interested you might want to use "cauli rice" which is a favourite of the low- and is made by grating cauliflower and shallow frying the result to provid a lower calorie/ lower carb version of rice.

I love the sound of your chorizo chickpea thing. Might try something like at for tonight's supper.
Em

Hazelbrowneyes · 17/04/2013 12:44

Hi Em,

How do you find fasting? I end up really grumpy if hungry. Is it easy to plan?

I should cut out the OJ in the morning and I'm reducing sugar in tea - I had a 1/4 of a spoon in a cup yesterday but I've recorded it as 1 sugar for ease. I plan on being down to no sugar by the end of the week.

I'm thinking of trying cauli rice, I've heard good things! I know if I low carb, I can lose weight pretty quickly so I'm trying to stick to that.

The chorizo thing was lovely and probably didn't need the pasta tbh.

2 chicken breasts, 1/2 chorizo, tin of chickpeas, tin of tomatoes and probably 2 handfuls of pasta did 4 portions. Very yummy.

Time for my mugshot - these are surprisingly yummy and filling for so few calories. The one I'm having today is 166 cal.

50shadesofbrown · 17/04/2013 15:31

Welcome shagmundfreud & Hazel.
Was going to try & do another fasting day today, however caved when I got home from work & scoffed about 12 baby carrots & 1/2 pot of low fat hummus. Not bad but not a fasting day! Having home made pizza tonight, lots of veg, thinly sprinkled low-fat mozzarella, home made tomato sauce. I'm pretty good at making virtually fat-free sauces, but the base is an absolute carb-fest so I make several small bases rather than one large one, it's easier not to eat as much then. Will try & stick at just that for today - I have to 'save up' for Friday as we are having takeaway as it's my birthday.
Shagmundfreud what kind of juicer do you use? I've been thinking of getting one for ages but not got round to it yet.

Emilythornesbff · 17/04/2013 20:23

Hi hazel. I find fasting tricky but not as bad as I thought it would be. I've only had two so far and plan to have another tomorrow or friday.
Lots of the 5:2 people say they do better if they eat nothing until dinner so they can have a 500 calorie meal then. As I am ebf my dd I can't imagine going that long tbh so I avoid breakfast and have homemade broth for lunch and supper and manage with water, herb tea and the odd marmite drink throughout the day.
I think the 5:2 thing is useful because you have the respite of the 5 non fasting days (as long as you don't over compensate and start bingeing).
The 5:2 pros reckon that fasting days get easier with time.

Low caring is effective but I find it quite difficult to manage with family meals and tbh it's a bit gimmicky for very long term.
Some of the principles of low carbing are great though.

I think small plates, eat slowly, avoid crap are the way to go and I'm hoping that a couple of fasting days a week will augment any weight loss.
Thirsty now and can't get up coz I'm feeding. Could murder an OJ Grin

Emilythornesbff · 17/04/2013 20:29

Chorizo thing does sound good.
We had chicken and pasta tonight. I didn't binge or have seconds but I did have an alcohol free beer and a mini magnum Blush

The thing is, it's tempting to go on a really strict diet but it's so difficult to maintain.
I don't know anyone who's done ww, sw, lighter life etc without piling the weight back on after a number of months. Not one.
The slim and thin (healthy) ppl I know all eat nice food, small portions.

Emilythornesbff · 17/04/2013 20:30

Happy birthday for Friday 50 shades

Bearface · 17/04/2013 20:42

Hello

I wondered if I could join you? Is there room for another smallish one?

Shagmundfreud could be describing me! I get so tired and I eat carbs and sugary foods to get my energy levels back up. I've never been diagnosed with anything and I don't think there's anything medically wrong with me as such, but I get really tired. I have a very demanding job and I feel wrecked by the end of the day. I've tired slow-release carbs but often I just get the feelings of tiredness and cravings. I think a lot of my problems go back to when I was a child. Maybe I need counselling - who knows? Anyway, I was hoping to join you guys for a bit of support and chat. I'd love to stop binge-eating and get off this cycle of destructive eating that I'm on. BTW - I've always done it at different points in my life and now I just want to stop. Any tips or advice would be really really welcome. x
