New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

I couldn't get my wheaten need to wait for bakers to go back to work. Just had bacon and eggs and a small slice of fried potato bread.

Most startling news, I have already lost some fluid, my face isn't as puffy and my rings clicked against each other last nigh. As opposed to cutting off the circulation in my finger.

I've got some natural yougurt to try again. I'm going to swish a blackberry in it to see if that helps.
I also have a lovely spotty chin Hmm

I'm in :) I actually started low carbing today but was going to do it for three weeks anyway so it's pretty good timing :) Thanks Biwi

Have close to 2.5 stone to lose, would really like to be feeling trim by my (May) birthday. Fit & forty for me!

I'm impressed by how many of you have already started!

Today is my last day of excess. Didn't get to bed until 5.30 am, and was definitely a bit worse for wear, so started the day with a couple of Solpadeine Blush. Then a full English, with toast. Now drinking water, as I realise I haven't been drinking anywhere near enough over the last few days.

I'm not getting on the scales until 7 Jan, as I know it will be bad news! So giving myself a few days to be ultra strict and get my head round being back on Bootcamp.

Oh, and Happy New Year everyone. Let's get 2013 off to a svelte start Grin

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 15:32

Thanks for the soup tip, btw. I've bought some leeks and chicken tighs to make some.

leobeebs · 01/01/2013 15:39

I've been lurking for ages and am in awe of you ladies. You really are amazing.
I would like to start as I'm too big 5'3 and 11 st 3.
I really struggle with breakfast. I'm usually a porridge and fruit fan and don't really fancy eggs so what else can I eat?
And pâté on celery sounds yummy. Is there any particular one to look out for?
Sorry lots of asks but could you post separately what you eat for different meals please as I'm stuck

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 01/01/2013 15:43

The trick with breakfast is to see it just as another meal - as opposed to a meal which somehow requires special foods! Leftovers from the previous night's dinner is always good. Or go 'continental', with cold meats and cheese. Full fat yoghurt with vanilla is a favourite of mine.

For lunch, I usually have some form of meat + veg or salad. I work from home, though, so it's much easier for me to cook. A particular favourite is a pork chop, fried in oil and butter, with spinach, also with butter and sometimes a little chopped garlic.

Um. Starting on Monday. Smile [sloegin]

Just doing an online shop to be ready.

Yddraigoldragon · 01/01/2013 16:06

Really looking forward to this, starting on the 7th will give me a chance to get my head back in the groove.
I did LC for a few years, and honestly never felt better. I have no idea why I gave it up - probably just being lazy as it does take a bit more effort than just grabbing at the nearest available snack on a shelf.

To those still unsure, can I share how it works in my head? Forgive me the essay?

Our species has not changed much since cave man days (looks fondly at snoring husband Xmas Grin ). This includes our digestive systems. I do not think we were designed to eat refined carbs - meat/fish/eggs yes, veg was gathered, honey was available, and fruit and nuts in season. All parts of animals were used, fat was a staple - and absolutely nothing was processed, interfered with, chemically preserved or added to. Grains were not mass harvested, were gathered in small quantities in passing. Refined sugar had not been invented.

So eating a diet containing fat/meat/fish/eggs, veg, a small amount of fruit etc was what we were programmed to do.

The population has become more obese recently, in the last few generations. This coincides with the ready availability of processed food.

LC to me goes back to an oldfashioned meat and two veg way of eating.

A bit simplistic yes, but it makes loads of sense to me.

GinotPrigio · 01/01/2013 16:08

Went to go to the gym and it was closed, despite saying they were open on their website, grrr! Too late to go for a run as its getting dark (I live in the country so can only run when its daylight). Oh well, exercise starts tomorrow instead!

Have a leg of goat in the oven slow roasting that I can't wait to get my hands on for dinner!

MulledwineGless · 01/01/2013 16:22

Coco a really nice soup recipe on the recipe thread is dreamy creamy spinach soup. Also cream of veg - think it was viper who posted
Half a celeriac, 2 leeks, 2 courgettes fried in butter then simmer in chicken stock until veg tender, blitz it up and ad a splash of cream. Deeelicious

TheHumancatapult · 01/01/2013 16:26

Kracken

I still have coffee Nornally just two cups but they are big cups a day but I have them black without sugar anyway

MissNJE · 01/01/2013 16:27

Hello,

I would like to join. I have lost 26lbs last year but put on nearly 9lbs in December. Shock I am currently 12.9 st and would like to lose at least 4 st in the New Year. I am looking forward to all your support and motivation.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 16:34

26lbs EnvyGrin
Thanks mulled, I'm not sure about cream tbh. I think it gives me a headache.

My sinuses have been draining today. It's lovely.

skandi1 · 01/01/2013 16:35

BIWI. I am in.

Need to 35lbs and reduce body fat. I did so well last year and lost 2stone. Sadly stuffed myself with biscuits during November and put 1 stone back on. Argh.

If I can step away from the biscuits I can do this.
What's a low carb alternative to biscuits??Smile

ScillyCow · 01/01/2013 16:49

I just weighed - I have lost NO WEIGHT!!!! (am on day 6)

WTF is going on???? Any ideas? I only cheated ONCE - on day 2 with 2 glasses of red wine and 6 squares dark choc. Apart from that I have been a copmpete angel.

Also (DO NOT READ IF OF A SENSITIVE NATURE)
(whispers - I just had an 'accident'. Of the poo kind. Thought it was a fart, happily folding the washing and bleurgh. Watery poo. Disgusting and has never happened to me before. To do with the diet??)

Thank the lord DH isn't here and DTs were too engaged with Chuggington to see me sneak past trouser-less and get in the shower.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 16:51

I'm looser in the bowel department as well, thought it was all the fat I'm consuming.

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 01/01/2013 16:54

ScillyCow - what have you been eating/drinking each day? See if we can see anything. And how much water have you been drinking?

OP posts:

ScillyCow · 01/01/2013 17:03

BTW, having one of those things each day, not all 3!

timidviper · 01/01/2013 17:08

Scilly no expert on poo but I think from what people have posted on here, they seem to go one way or the other and often quite dramatically!

BIWI I'm with you regarding starting peoperly on the 7th. I've got people here for supper tomorrow so will get rid of some naughty leftovers then use the next few days to get my head in gear.

Ginot Goat? Really?! What is it like and where would you get that from?
