New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

Happy New Year Everyone!

Hope everyone has an absolutely fantabulous year.

Nursing minor hangover here. Eggs and bacon here I come!

sybilfaulty · 01/01/2013 10:52

Happy new year everyone! DH and I had a lovely NYE although we both fell asleep on the sofa. Cannot believe he is going back to work tomorrow. Been a lovely holiday.

DH is cooking goose for lunch. Have turned down roasties in favour of celeriac dauph. There may be wine though. I am going to LC this week (avec wine as I don't go back to work til MOnday) then bootcamp proper from then on in.

Hope 2013 is a healthy and happy one for us all.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 11:01

Happy new year to everyone!

I sat ladt night with my pint of water and cucumber and Philadelphia Grin
This is my 3rd day with no carbs.

Still struggling a bit with breakfast, I can't believe I've gone off eggs Shock. I had two large slices of ham this morning and a cup of tea. I drink a green and black mixture, I haven't had milk or sugar in my tea for years.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 11:03

Oh forgot to ask is there a shop bought soup we are allowed at the moment? Probably no, but I thought I would take a chance Grin.

vnmum · 01/01/2013 11:07

Happy new year all. Woke up with heavy legs then realised i'm 3 days in so my glycogen is probably emptying. I did think about going for a new years day run but with heavy legs, totm, and not run in ages i decided against it.

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/01/2013 11:17

borninastorm I think most low carb food will also be what is defined as low GI just not the other way around if that makes sense - have a lo

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/01/2013 11:18

Sry! Have a look and see.,.

Chocberry · 01/01/2013 11:24

Anyone know of any good low carb recipe sites or books? Need inspiration for breakfast, lunches and dinners. At the moment all I can visualise is bacon and eggs for breakfast, egg/chicken salad for lunch and meat and veg for dinner!!

cathyandclaire · 01/01/2013 11:27

OOOHHH...Vnum, I'm Xmas Envy about your empty glycogen...I topped mine up nicely last night Blush...but just had a yummy ham and leek frittata for brunch (manfully resisted the panettone that is shouting VERY LOUD from the cupboard this morning) and going to be bootcamping light for the next few days to get ready for the big stick on the 7th.

FurryDogMother · 01/01/2013 12:07

Choc - a really good low carb recipe site is here: www.genaw.com/lowcarb/

Hope that helps!

Chocberry · 01/01/2013 12:16

Thanks FurryDogMother Will take a look :)

daisie4 · 01/01/2013 12:18

Hi, can I join too? I've low carbed before but had fruit for breakfast and drink loads of milky tea so haven't been in ketosis (I think), but didn't crave carbs (so maybe I have?). If I follow the strict first two weeks will I go into the classic ketosis of breath smelling and headaches? Thanks

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 12:23

I've been thinking I night change to LC this week. If I start Bootcamp before everyone else I won't know what to do after my 2 weeks.

I'm going to buy no sugar wheaten bread, the biggest slice would be the size of half a regular slice of bread. Have that for breakfast then stop at Botcamp.

cocolepew · 01/01/2013 12:25

Choc, if you have an android device, there are free low carb recipe apps on the play store.

Gilbertwasthebestcat · 01/01/2013 12:55

Thanks for the curry tips last night. I was stuffed even without rice and naan. Ate fried egg for breakfast and steak with creme fraiche sauce for lunch . My head is struggling to understand how the fat helps you lose weight. I don't feel hungry though...

Doshusallie · 01/01/2013 13:18

Happy new year losers [said very very quietly]. I drank all of fellatio's quota of alcohol last night have the worst hangover and am in bed. Feel completely poisoned by alcohol, and am not drinking for this month I have decided (what do think are my chances mulled?)

Can't believe it's the sunniest day for ages and I feel like hell, feel very guilty that I am not taking the boys out for fresh air. Even less chance of dh doing it.oh well they have 3 days of sports camp coming up.

Ate low carb last night apart from a few crisps. And a lake of booze obv.

Have managed a cheese omelette with coleslaw and some water so far today.

Great inspirational post BIWI.

Can't wait to get to the gym tomorrow - am considering some personal training sessions a la BIWI, but as I go at such odd times when I can fit it in it is quite hard to schedule that kind of thing. Need to get ski fit by march!! Grin

Kracken · 01/01/2013 13:22

Hello, think I've fallen off the list?! Is there any chance someone could add me as I'm out all day and only have phone which won't let me cut n paste, ta.

I am trying to start cutting down on carbs from today to make it a bit easier from the 7th so pasta is the first thing I'm eliminating as I eat loads of it! No bread as of tomorrow.

Question, do I really have to quit caffeine?! It's just if I quit that and sugar at the same time I think I might throttle someone, prob DH... I know Idiot Proof Diet says to quit caffeine but couldn't see it in the bootcamp rules.

hurricanewyn · 01/01/2013 13:26

Waves back at MulledWineGless!

Had soup for lunch - can recommend Sainsburys basics cooking bacon. It's only £1.09 for 670g and is great in soups, chopped up in omlettes/frittata or anything really. I just had a soup with celery, celeriac, spring onion, bacon, cream & cream cheese. Lovely!

When I slipped dived headfirst off the wagon, I didn't keep my water levels up either. Had 3 litres yesterday & was up four times in the night for a wee Shock

Can't wait for my bladder to get used to the drinking again

Doshusallie · 01/01/2013 13:28

Someone was asking about a shop bought low carb soup? Sainsbos does a good broccolli and Stilton one.

Waiting2wait2wait · 01/01/2013 13:41

Hello,

Am I too late to join? I like the fact there is mention here of not counting calories and things, I have never been any good at that, so it seems like a good start to try and join if I can :)

Goal wise - I want to get back to 70kg prior to ttc. Any less than that would be great, but I would be happy there so that is what I am aiming for!

Do I need to do anything to sign up?

Waiting2wait2wait · 01/01/2013 13:52

Ahh, I see what I need to do now! :) Added to the list, now to get the hang of what I am supposed to be eating!

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 01/01/2013 13:53

So, I started the low or no carbs today and I'm craving sugar already Shock

My son, who has ASD has only been eating white foods ie carbs for some time. we've been very gradually changing things but he doesnt eat fruit veg, meat or fish. All of us have been eating a very heavy carb diet a long time.

Today has already been a shock to the system, I dont feel hungry but I am craving. This is going to be harder than I thought!

HugAndRoll · 01/01/2013 13:55

Woke up this am feeling like crap. Had a glass of water but can't face anything else yet. I'm back to work tomorrow too after my maternity leave so hope I feel better tomorrow. I didn't even drink last night Sad

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/01/2013 14:14

Hng in there the accidentalexhibishionist it does get easier. To craving for carbs is why it is so important to be strict for two weeks to read the cycle. Carbs for me are addictive, once I have just a little I can't stop and it is scary.

Have lots of nice things to snack on, and snack away if need be early on. I find that helps me in the beginning. Things like babybels, pâté on celery or cucumber slices, pork scratchings, cold meat, fish, smoked salmon etc... After a while your body will stop revelling and embrace the difference I promise!

MulledwineGless · 01/01/2013 14:41

DOSH HOW'S YER HEAD LUV?!
If I can do no alcohol November you can do dry January. Why Di t you join up for the cancer research one so you feel more motivated? I am feeling grim today but got the kids lurgy
Not eaten anything yet today just water.

Re caffeine I didn't give it up but I only drink black coffee anyway. I dud reduce consumption though.

Someone mentioned about artificial sweeteners - I use Truvia now which is a plant extract so not made from chemicals like aspartame based sweeteners
