New Year Low Carb Bootcamp

1000 replies

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 29/12/2012 21:30

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Santa brought you everything that you deserved! Xmas Grin

By now, I'm guessing that many of us will be rather tired of chocolates and stodgy food. Mince pie anyone? Xmas Wink

So. The next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on 7 January. It will run for 10 weeks, which will take us to mid-March. The idea of Bootcamp is that we have an initial strict fortnight, which will see a significant amount of weight loss, followed by a more relaxed 8 weeks.

Overall, if you follow the rules, you can expect to lose anything up to 20lbs in this time period.

So who is in?

If you want to join us, add your name to the list and tell us what your aims/objectives are.

I will start ...

BIWIshYouAMerryChristmas · 31/12/2012 00:06

Processed stuff is generally to be avoided, however, things like ham/bacon/smoked salmon etc are all nice things to have in our diets. Just try to buy the best quality that you can afford, and make sure you're not eating them at every meal/every day. (With ham, try and avoid 'formed' stuff)

I'm in! I feel off the wagon towards the end of the last bootcamp and I suspect I've put back on what I lost last time, which wasn't much anyway, especially as I've had to stop exercising due to an injury.

Thanks BIWI. Thanks

Womenandchickensfirst · 31/12/2012 01:34

Hi, I would like to join too please. Lost over 3 and a half stone before last Christmas, but have put some back on over the past 6 months. Daughter getting married in May, so I would like to lose 2 stone by end of March, to buy an outfit. Also have Type 2 Diabetes, so need to for health reasons as well. Not sure how much I weigh, as too scared to get on the scales - will wait till New Years Day and take it from there. Many thanks BIWI.

Please can I join? Just looked at the rules and although horrified to see no wine allowed it looks ok. I want to lose 1.5 stone. I feel chubby and look chubby and nothing fits.

NellVarnish · 31/12/2012 05:45

Ok, I'm in BIWI and Willie if you'll have me, even though I can't quite get my head round full fat Greek yoghurt and Boursin, yum. Is that really true? How can eating fat make you less fat iyswim? And this vegetable calculating of carbs seems hard. And no pasta!

Or wine!

But since I'm currently a little fat piggypig full of Quality Street and mince pies, it has got to stop. Need to lose at least two stone.

Am quite confuddled by it all but will read through thread with a glass of wine later and it will all make sense. It is Hogmanay after all ...

Wink

Jacaqueen · 31/12/2012 07:29

Oh wow!

This is going to be so good. Look at all the new people joining us. I cannot wait.

I weighed this morning and have put on 6lbs since Christmas Eve. This coming week I am going to try and move towards Bootcamp by cutting out the obvious crap carb (handful of Skittles) and being more mindful about what I consume.

I am up early today as this is Hogmanay, and I have to clean my house ready for the coming new year. Has anyone seen a play called The Steamie? Well it will be a bit like that.

I will take this opportunity to wish everyone on this thread 'Aw Ra Best Fur Ra Bells'.Which means, I hope you all have a Happy New Year when it comes.

Right I am off to scrub my doorstep or the New Year will not arrive.

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/12/2012 08:06

Womenandchickensfirst I am also type II diabetic - I can reccomend dr bernsteins diabetic diet book for a read about low carb and benefits for diabetes.

Breakfast ideas were listed further back around page 4/5 maybe? Basically I think the list got to:
Yoghurt, leftovers, cold meats, cheese, bacon eggs and mushrooms in various formations... I think sometimes we need to rethink breakfast entirely, the same way we rethink about fats being 'bad' on this WOE? We are conditioned to think cereal or toast, but why not meat or vegetables or whatever we want really!

sybilfaulty · 31/12/2012 09:04

Nell! Hello there! Are you still running? I am afraid I gave up rather at the start of the summer and never really got back. I do lots of swimming though, which is good and I toy with the idea of doing C25K again but it's so very cold. Brr! Are you still running regularly? Is the thread still going? I should pop over and have a look.

This WOE is wonderful and you are going to love it. If you are veg, it is more difficult but there is still plenty. If you like eggs you will be fine. If you don't (or can't have for allergy reasons) there is still a lot of eat though you need to be a bit more creative. I think someone mentioned Rose Elliott's book " the low carb vegetarian" which might be worth a look. There are lots of yummy ideas on the bootcamp recipe thread for non meat meals as well, so why not have a wee look there.

Don't forget too about the water. You need to drink plenty to help your kidneys work and so that your liver can work on burning your fat for fuel. 2l a day minimum. I drink a lot at work but less at home, although a bottle with a sports cap makes it easier.

Right, must get up. Was going for a swim but there are no lanes on til 12. Bummer.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 31/12/2012 09:04

Can you count me in too please. I need to lose three stone but would like to lose a stone or so in bootcamp. Did well on Dukan last year but it was so restrictive I gained it all when I fell off the wagon. I am hoping that my new year motivation to the support from this thread will be the answer this time!

cocolepew · 31/12/2012 09:06

Morning everyone Smile

Urgh,I feel awful. Banging headache and popping sinuses. I have so much fluid in me it effects my sinuses and gives me oresure headaches, I'm hoping this diet helps me.

My woo woman Grin has said the fluid is from so many antibiotics after my hysterectomy in August, I had a lot of infections and ended up with 5 courses of antib's.

Hope everyone is feeling good.

newpencilcase · 31/12/2012 09:08

I'm in. Lost a stone with Dr Briffa before Christmas but have definitely refound the carbs in December.

DH also lost 2 stone so he'll be joining me.

I'd like to get down to 11stone. Also have signed up for the Wolf Run in April which is so far out of my comfort zone I may as well be training for the moon landing.

cocolepew · 31/12/2012 09:13

Can I ask a question? For those that lost weight and then put it back on, was it because you went back onto carbs or that you just ate too much carbs/over ate (any food).

I don't want to be no carb forever, but realise I have to low carb or low GI.

HavingAnOffDAy · 31/12/2012 09:15

I am most definitely in. I've joined before & had some success (when I actually stuck to it Blush) and really enjoy the WOE. I'd like to lose a half a stone in bootcamp, then another half by mid Feb. I need to lose more but am making a realistic target for my holiday at half term.

MulledwineGless · 31/12/2012 09:46

Coco I have put on 6lbs over Christmas mainly by drinking too much and over eating - think chocolate crisps stollen etc etc
I haven't regained the 2 stone I have lost this year though and lose it pretty quickly when I go back to being Bootcamp strict. I am not on maintenance yet but those who have report that it is a case of working out what suits your body ie reintroduce slowly

Doshusallie · 31/12/2012 09:54

Coco - I find to stay at 9 1 I really can't eat many carbs at all. I don't eat any fruit at all for example, any bread or potatoes, pasta or rice. Ever. But having said that I do drink alcohol, wine or gin, almost every night (glass or two) so if I didn 't do that I could probably eat more carbs in food I suppose.

Doshusallie · 31/12/2012 09:55

Considers trying it.

Doshusallie · 31/12/2012 09:55

Perhaps not today though. Grin

cocolepew · 31/12/2012 10:02
