Captain mummy I have to have breakfast too, and often don't bother with lunch at the weekend when I get up later (5.45am breakfast before work!)

sybilfaulty · 29/08/2012 17:59

So sorry Auntie Maggie. Be kind to yourself and I hope you are ok and have RL support. Huge hugs

teaandthorazine · 29/08/2012 17:59

2muchness - if it's just a temporary slipup then no, you shouldn't end up with carb flu again. But by temporary I mean 'ooops I ate a pizza last night' or 'I had a couple of roast potatoes at lunch'. If you end up off piste for a few days or (eeek) weeks then yes, you'll be back to square one, pretty much, and carb flu may well return.

Wrt adding wholegrains etc, I believe you are supposed to decrease the fat levels. But I'm no expert in this area because I still prefer to avoid grains as far as possible!

WillieWaggledagger · 29/08/2012 18:00

Oh auntiemaggie look after yourself

teaandthorazine · 29/08/2012 18:01

Hope you're ok, Maggie, btw. I think a drink or two would bf considered purely medicinal in the circumstances!

NigellasGuest · 29/08/2012 18:27

AuntieMaggie I hope there is someone there to give you a cuddle!
and I'm sure you will get lots of hugs from this thread!

Thegoddessblossom · 29/08/2012 18:50

Hope ure ok AM. Deffo deserve a drink. I am drinking wine in celebration of little weight gain on hols which seems to defeat the purpose but hey ho. Won't drink any more wine after this bottle.

Lunch was egg, tuna, roasted veg, cheese, cucumber, lettuce, salami and mayo.

WillieWaggledagger · 29/08/2012 19:04

I am so ready to return to boot camp. Have been sloppy lately and it's showing. I'm not eating carby things, but just a bit too much 90% chocolate, a few too many alcoholic drinks, a bit too much cheese and cream and artificial sweeteners (not all at the same time!). It's causing cravings and I'm starting to feel a little bloated.

I have a drinks thing tomorrow and another Friday, but I'll do the food shop on Friday and then back to strict boot camp from Saturday.

AuntieMaggie · 29/08/2012 19:50

Thank you ladies :)

Feel better now courtesy of a cup of tea and dinner from DP (chicken with roasted courgette and peppers - i really love him sometimes :) )

Apart from dinner all I've had is 2 boiled eggs, bacon, mozzarella and tomatoes but I am so not hungry.

NigellasGuest · 29/08/2012 19:54

well my stomach has blown up like a balloon in the space of one afternoon, and I feel crampy/achey a bit like I've got a stitch.

The only bad thing Ive eaten is bits of chocolate muffin that DD made earlier - ive not eaten a whole one, only bits that I've picked at, IYSWIM

could this have given me such a reaction? does anyone know?? Shock

and AuntieM so glad you're feeling a bit better. That sounds like a lovely DH!

vnmum · 29/08/2012 20:00

Today is going ok so far. A few hungry moments and one moment where i felt like my blood sugar was lower than normal (it shouldn't be that high normally because i only eat 30g or less of carbs a day), which could have been due to the sweetners in the shake. It was about 5 hours after i had my lunch shake.

I have just realised though that my next fast day would be due on friday and i am going to a bbq that evening. I could try and eat nothing all day and just eat at the bbq hoping i stay under the 500 cals but i may also be tempted to eat more because of the delicious food on offer. If i do today, sat and mon as fasts, that will be 3 in a week. If i'd done yesterday properly i would have done 4 by tuesday. This is going to be an interesting experiment and i am already running into potential problems fitting it into regular life, something that isn't an issue with low carbing. So far it is not selling itself to me Smile but i shall continue for the sake of science Grin

vnmum · 29/08/2012 20:01

nigella if you are sensitive to wheat then yes

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/08/2012 20:07

vnmum you've pretty much convinced me it's a rubbish idea!!!! Good luck with I though if you continue...

OP posts:
Thegoddessblossom · 29/08/2012 20:09

vnmum - good luck with your experiment. Personally I couldn't be doing with all the analysis. One of the best things about the LC WOE IMHO is that once you've got your head round what you can and can't eat, it requires very little brain power. And because you are not hungry you are not thinking about food and obsessing about your next meal.

NigellasGuest · 29/08/2012 20:13

vnmum I admire your dedication! I shall be watching your updates with interest.....
i didn't think I was sensitive to wheat - have never noticed it before. But since starting this WOE obviously I've cut out all things wheaty. Perhaps a sudden bit of wheat in the diet would cause this.?

AuntieMaggie · 29/08/2012 20:13

I know what you're going to say but I've only had approx 900 cals today... but I'm not at all hungry

NigellasGuest · 29/08/2012 20:16

AuntM as far as i'm concerned, if you're not hungry, don't eat! that's what I do (or don't do). But you shouldn't be aware of how many calories you have or haven't had.... because we do not count calories! Wink

vnmum · 29/08/2012 20:31

I only know my calorie consumption when i'm not doing silly experiments, if i am tracking my carbs on my app coz it tracks everything, otherwise i certainly don't count them. Had enough of doing that stuff on weight watchers. Thats why i am using protein shakes for this experiment because i know they are under 500 cals for the day and i can't be arsed weighing and counting normal food Grin

AuntieMaggie · 29/08/2012 20:40

I'm using my fitness pal to record my food thats how I know how many I've had. Makes me laugh though as a 1200 cal diet almost killed me when I did that and my blood sugar was all over the place.

NigellasGuest · 29/08/2012 20:54

i take it back - you 're allowed to know your cal consumption Grin

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/08/2012 21:04

auntiemaggie snap! I've just restarted tracking in MFP. Like you I was starving on 1200 cals, even changing my weightliss goals to allow more had my blood sugars all over the place with me making best guess for insulin and inevitably having too much and need sugar later or too little and my blood sugars too high.

Seeing many calories I sometimes eat and still lose weight on this woe just reinforces how amazing it is that anyone can continue to peddle the calories in / out myth!!!

OP posts:
AuntieMaggie · 29/08/2012 21:46

Just worked out its approx 16 weeks til xmas... I'd like to lose another 10 kg before then.

Its so funny but its like something has clicked in my brain. This woe is so much easier than I thought it would be and although I'm looking forward to a few indulgences on my holiday (in just over 3 weeks) I feel more able to go out and not drink or eat crap. It doesn't bother me so much. And even last week when I was still eating fruit I didn't want the cake/choc I was missing out on. Weird.

SingingTunelessly · 29/08/2012 21:52

Auntmaggie, sending you a belated hug, sounds like a rotten day.

Nigella, we were out Monday for a family meal and I had a bit of bread (creamy tarragon mushrooms came on toasted brioche) a few fries with delicious steak (and I mean about three skinny ones) and then indulged in a most delicious melting chocolate brownie with vanilla and salted caramel icecream. Tiny portions as well but OMG have I paid the price. Agony. I honestly had way fewer carbs than I would have before but, nope, never again. DH had mash with his main and a pudding and has felt off sorts since so is TOTALLY convinced by this woe. So thats a positive Grin

Vnmum, guess we won't be joining in the fast then?! Grin

Viperidae · 29/08/2012 23:14

My friend came to visit and we headed off the "we're at the seaside, must eat fish and chips" by having everybody have tea at mine so I have been quite good Smile I made a some nice low carb stuff but also put out a big bowl of pasta for the carbeaters.

I haven't been quite so lightheaded today so I'm living in hope that it's passing off.

Meant to tell you all I have a cookbook "Saving dinner the low carb way" which I find really useful. It has some quick and easy recipes with meal planner, shopping lists, suggestions for both low carb and carby side dishes, etc. It isn't as strict as bootcamp but I find it useful.

Good luck to anyone fasting, you're braver than me.
