We could keep chatting here until someone starts a new proper thread...

Nigella I have a lot of cocoa - one teaspoon unsweetened cocoa with hot water topped with fullfat milk. Honestly don't think I could have survived without it! You don't really miss the sugar.

NigellasGuest · 28/08/2012 21:17

oh thank you Medal... I just got the urge for hot chocolate, perhaps it's the fact that it suddenly feels more Autumnal outside!
I think I will top it with double cream instead of the milk.

I've had a quick google and a teaspoon of vanilla extract contains hardly any carbs (less than 1gram) so I think vanilla is the way forward for me and my sweet tooth.
Actually there must be all sorts of different extracts, for adding low carb flavour to drinks and things mustn't there!

Viperidae · 28/08/2012 21:20

Thank you for all the good wishes everybody - it's good to "meet" you all. I've been very good today, I've eaten well and drunk loads of water (I have had 2 diet cokes but I can't give all my pleasures up at once!)

Just to get an idea if I'm doing this right, food today has been:
B: 2 poached eggs with hollandaise sauce on baby spinach
L: Chicken, spring onion and cherry tomato chopped in mayo with shredded lettuce
T: Hake, chorizo and prawns in cream sauce (improvised but very nice!), oven-roasted butternut squash and asparagus. Lemon mousse (Atkins recipe 1.6g carb per serving)

Trouble is we live at the seaside and have friends visiting tomorrow wanting fish and chips!

NigellasGuest · 28/08/2012 21:26

viper to my untrained eye that all looks pretty good except I think that squash might be a relatively high-carb veg. Not certain about that. And I don't know what Atkins approved desserts consist of - presumably a lot of artificial stuff? which isn't great? but I could be wrong.

Just give them fish, tell them the chips are off!
or, do the famous celeriac chips. V.v. popular on here! Wink

NigellasGuest · 28/08/2012 21:27

oh sorry - you mean they will want to go to the chippy.
well, let em go! Grin

SingingTunelessly · 28/08/2012 21:33

Welcome vipers radio, Sounds good just be careful of the tomatoes and squash if you are Bootcamping as they can add up quite quickly carb wise. . Smile

BIWI thank you for Bootcamp list. Are you going to do a Bootcamp Lite list? I need something to print out. Am sts for past week though so maybe should Bootcamp.

SingingTunelessly · 28/08/2012 21:35

Vipers radio?! Sorry I blame iPad. Grin

Thegoddessblossom · 28/08/2012 22:01

Home. House seems small.

Am exhausted.

Have had two large glasses of red anda curry.

Weighing in tomorrow morning and then straight into boot camp. Have been to tescos and have food ready.

Omg re cocoa. YY to having it with cream. Might have it now.....

Viperidae · 28/08/2012 22:12

Thank you, I didn't realise squash was highish, thought it would be ok so will check that out. I still have a tendency to assume if it is a vegetable it must be ok!

The mousse I made myself using a recipe in the Atkins book so it is not full of nasties and is nice when you feep the need for something sweet (although it does have sweetener in). When I get time I'll post it on the recipe thread.

BIWI · 28/08/2012 22:43

Singing - yes I will - was just fiddling around this morning to make sure that I could work out how to use Google Docs!

And I still need to post the other rules, separately, so that we can discuss any possible/desirable amends.

Viper - have you got the list of allowed veg? If you use that, and focus on veg that is 3g carbs per 100g you won't go far wrong. And - sorry to pick you up on it Grin but if you're diet Coke and eating desserts made with artificial sweeteners, you aren't helping yourself to break the addiction to sweet things. And beware that for some people artificial sweeteners can also provoke an insulin response, and therefore lay down fat.

WillieWaggledagger · 28/08/2012 22:47

Am knackered but the Paralympic torch is going past the end of my road in an hour so feel I ought to make the effort

I've done the mushrooms + butter + Boursin thing and it is heavenly

Viperidae · 28/08/2012 22:56

Thanks everybody, you can see I'm just starting out, I haven't got the hang of it yet but I do appreciate the advice as I have to find a way to stop getting fatter.

My trouble is I'm quite a fussy eater, there's lots of stuff I don't like including cheese and lots of veg but I'm going to print your rules and lists out and put them on the fridge to remind me.

BIWI · 28/08/2012 23:43

Just for the record, there are 8.3g carbs per 100g of butternut squash. (I'm not sure if it's on the list of veg, but it does make it pretty carby)

WillieWaggledagger · 29/08/2012 00:03

Biwi on threads I'm on your last post ended on 'butter' and gave me a fright!

Thegoddessblossom · 29/08/2012 07:57

I have gained 1 pound. Grin Grin Grin

Thegoddessblossom · 29/08/2012 07:58

as in in 2 weeks away that is all I have gained, not more as i was expecting - just realised that looked odd that I was happy to have gained weight. Oh YKWIM. Grin

hazchem · 29/08/2012 08:40

Welcome back goddess I think that is a fab weight gain:)

Nigella I too am missing my hot chocolate. I have tried cocoa and coconut oil and hot water not to be repeated. I might look into the vanilla extract. This article has some recipes for sugar free deserts. I haven't tried any of them yet and some do recommend using agave nectar which is a bit silly if you are avoiding sugar but they might be useful.

Had a great food day yesterday but did round it off with a glass of pink sparkling wine! Managed to have a friend over for lunch and served her pasta while I had grilled baby gem avocado and pesto without the pasta!
Oh and am done 1 1/2 pounds so almost back to 2 weeks ago.

AuntieMaggie · 29/08/2012 08:54

Dammit I'm a kilo up this morning but I'm hoping its water retention (damn af)

BIWI · 29/08/2012 08:58

Grin Would I do that to you, Willie?!

Brilliant, Thegoddess. I haven't dared venture on to the scales. I'm just hoping that all will magically melt away over the next week or so...

Re chocolate/cocoa, Nigella, in one of the recent Lakeland catalogues they have a whole load of different flavour extracts, including chocolate. I e-mailed the company (an American producer) to ask if they had sugar in them, and they said they didn't. They make all manner of different flavours, but I haven't got round to trying them yet.

Here

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 29/08/2012 09:58

10 stone 0.5! Grin Grin That's despite a wee bit of Wensleydale with dried apricots - it was sitting in the fridge just going to waste, so I ate a bit. Oooh, a 9 is almost, almost in sight!

Cocoa recipes - the perfect autumnal discovery. DH made chocolate mousse once, too. I don't remember quantities, but it was basically egg whites, double cream, a bit of Total yoghurt and 85% dark choc. At the time we were very new to low carbing and it tasted a bit bitter, but I don't think it would now.

B: Total full fat; 4 raspberries; mug of tea with Golden Top milk. I was going to have either omelette or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for lunch, but DH used all the eggs last night in an attempt at garlic and coconut rolls (which didn't work), grr! Might fall back on leek lasagne instead (yesterday's dinner - was delicious!).

halfthesize · 29/08/2012 10:45

Morning all, it seems very Autumnal today, rain and windSad So have spent the last hour going through my winter/autumn clothes and they are all to big!!! Think some retail therapy will be in order soonSmile

WillieWaggledagger so glad you liked the creamy garlic mushrooms, hope you were not to tired after watching the torch.

Brunch will be bacon mushrooms and eggs.

Thegoddessblossom · 29/08/2012 10:59

breakfast was 2 boiled eggs.

emmak86 · 29/08/2012 11:23

Will be having lunch out.. I shall be good lol, an not sure about dinner yet but ill report back later Smile x

teaandthorazine · 29/08/2012 11:25

Hello all!

Am loving the way that the weightloss section seems to be succumbing to low carb- we will break the tyranny of calorie counting one day Grin.

Had a bit of an off-piste weekend at friends place. drank my own bodyweight in Rioja. Luckily my bodyweight is considerably less than it was so I reckon that's a win! And in hunger state did end up eating toast (there was nothing else on offer, was rather hoping for fryup!). And realised one amazing thing. Toast - even crusty White toast - is really really DULL.

Had delicious chili last night sans rice. Had just finished last mouthful when phone rang calling me back into work. Three babies in 90 mins Grin. Got home at 2am, am back at work now, bit knackered but necking the water and having some nuts.

Dinner tonight is chicken with mushrooms and shallots, and some sort of veg.

fufulina · 29/08/2012 11:29

Morning all, so still 76.8kg. Haven't lost in a few days, but have had a wedding, a few glasses of wine, and disastrous lunch with a friend yesterday who went to the chippy for lunch. Had cod goujons and salad, but the goujons were damn greasy, batter things. Not even that delicous and so wrong!

76kg is my next interim goal (which is 30kg down from when I was admitted for my c section with smallest, 6 months ago, which is so so so heavy, I am mortally embarrassed. She was only 8 pounds of it!). And then 73kg, which is a healthy BMI (although I know BMI is rubbish, it's a goal), then 70kg, which is wedding weight. Ideally, I'd like to be 66kg, which would be perfect for my height just over 5'7". So still 10kg to lose, and I'd like to lose that by February when I go back to work.

Have a two week holiday and Christmas to negotiate in the meantime, but all good. It's a way of life, not a diet! Slow and steady and all that!

Goddess, am hoping I can keep a lid on it as you did on holiday, that is brilliant.

Have good days everyone.
