We could keep chatting here until someone starts a new proper thread...

Have a look at the rules and see what you think. I just want to say quickly that I feel brilliant on this diet, I have really found it just a way to eat rather than a quick fix XXX

clarabellabunting · 28/08/2012 09:47

*make that a tiny 30g bar

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 28/08/2012 09:47

On the Rules thing - I bookmarked the spreadsheet because I keep wanting to look at it, and it has a tab with the Rules and the Allowed Veg at the bottom, so they're there if I ever need to look at them. Maybe we should all do this?

I was thinking about the eating breakfast rule - maybe instead of saying 'eat breakfast', we should say 'meal plan'? Ie, if you're not hungry, don't eat for the sake of eating, but think about where you're going and what you can eat there so you don't find yourself at work starving with only carbs available. Plan portable snacks if you're going out for the day - Baby Bels are good if you're ok with cheese. Take packed lunches. Think ahead!

Welcome, DizzyBee! We can do motivation. I've added your name to the spreadsheet here. Fill in your start date and then you can either put your starting weight or else just write 100 and start counting down lbs from there, if you're shy. I find the spreadsheet very motivational.

hazchem · 28/08/2012 10:12

BIWI that looks good! Very fast too.
Here are the references

Also wonder if Ludstig has anything to say on water as he seams pretty full on about no juice/no soft drinks. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

Too Immature I honestly hadn't seen that. Opps. But thanks for the link as I have now book marked it.

halfthesize · 28/08/2012 10:12

Morning all, welcome dizzy and BIWI the google doc is great, is now bookmarked along with spreadsheet.

I have not eaten as yet today, but had 2 pints of water.

Just off now to make batch load of home made burgersSmile

halfthesize · 28/08/2012 10:13

meant to say hazchem thats really interesting re the water and fat release x

BIWI · 28/08/2012 10:20

Right - now I have mastered Google Docs (what a fabulous resource that is!), I am going to start making amends to it - so don't bother bookmarking/saving it quite yet!

I will continue to post the rest of the rules individually with my comments/suggestions on this thread, and then once we have discussed it, will make amends to the whole thing.

I think, also, that there needs to be an overall background/explanation section, and some guidelines as well as the rules. I don't want the rules to become a massive document, which is what I am in danger of doing!

(At this rate I think I'm going to end up writing a book Grin)

halfthesize · 28/08/2012 10:34

I can see it now BIWI on prime time tv discussing bootcamp bookSmile

emmak86 · 28/08/2012 11:10

AuntieMaggie · 28/08/2012 11:32

What do you people do when you go on training courses or meetings for lunch?

I started another thread about it but the consensus was I was being too fussy!

NigellasGuest · 28/08/2012 12:03

Welcome Dizzybee and Viperidae and anyone I've missed...
BIWI - don't forget a disclaimer at the bottom of the rules - protect yourself Wink

Ilovemyteddy · 28/08/2012 13:02

test

Ilovemyteddy · 28/08/2012 13:03

Afternoon all and welcome to our newbies!

Viperidae - set yourself small targets - you need to be realistic when you have a lot of weight to lose (well done on 6lbs in the first week!) Each pound lost is a pound you will never get back again if you follow this WOE.
Don't fret if you put on the odd pound - it happens. Just carry on with low-carbing and the weight WILL come off.
Have the occasional treat once you have got your mind set around the fact that one square of chocolate will NOT lead you to eating the whole bar Grin
If you can't eat just one square without the chocolate bar calling to you until you have finished it, then don't eat any!
Because, like me, you are in this for the long haul, you may want to not be as strict as the Bootcamp rules all the time - I try to do two weeks Bootcamp, two weeks being a bit more lenient (more cheese for example.)
Do look at the recipe thread and other on-line LC recipes because there are loads of yummy LC things to make.
Do measure yourself - sometimes you don't seem to be losing weight, but your clothes are looser. I didn't do this at the start, and wish I had.

Dizzybee - you talked about wanting to find motivation. I started this WOE because I read an article by John Briffa in a Sunday newspaper and realised that this was a WOE I could follow (I particularly liked the fact that he said you didn?t have to do any exercise to lose weight ? although IMHO you DO need to do exercise to tone up.)
My motivation was the fact that I am in my early fifties and know that it is going to get harder to lose weight and keep it off as I get older. So I set my goal at getting my BMI down to 25 and normal, rather than 34 and obese (I need to be 147lb to do that ? I started at 224.4lb) I will never be 9stone something, so setting my target at a more realistic and healthy (for me) 10 and a half stones, was something I thought I could achieve. There was a poster on here who had lost over 5 stones on this WOE (Fluffy something) who had kept it off after a year.
Once you get used to this WOE you feel great! More physically active but also more positive about things.

And you can buy clothes ? lots of clothes! Charity shops are great for the interim stages as your size goes down, because you don?t want to spend a great deal of money on clothes that you will shrink out of in a few more weeks.

HTH

BIWI · 28/08/2012 13:26

BIWI the Book. This time it's personal ...

Grin

Good point well made, Nigella!

WillieWaggledagger · 28/08/2012 14:23

Thanks for those hazchem - here are the links to abstracts:

Metabolism Bilz et al
acta physiologica schliess et al
European Journal of Clinical Nutrition Keller et al (this one happens to be open)

welcome to new chaps - you do need a bit of faith to get you through the first week or so (not only if you experience carb withdrawal but also with respect to upping the fat intake in direct contravention of everything you've been taught before!) but it really is a fab WOE and I've never felt better

AuntieMaggie · 28/08/2012 14:23

I'm hungry today :(

I think its because AF is visiting and I only had bacon for breakfast so I'm munching on german sausage from Aldi (I know its processed but has not much carbs)

Curry for tea (minus the rice) and going to try to make a fritatta for lunch for tomorrow!

AuntieMaggie · 28/08/2012 14:27

Well I'm a definite convert after losing all of that weight and not being hungry and I did it still eating porridge and fruit so it definitely works.

DP is also losing weight as he's eating the same as me though he's still having fruit and carbs but he burns loads cycling to work everyday.

WillieWaggledagger · 28/08/2012 14:29

auntiemaggie, re training days/meetings

i take babybels/other individually wrapped cheeses just in case, bottled water (just in case there isn't enough there), salad in a tupperware box if it won't cause offence/be inappropriate

i often have a big cooked breakfast or big lunch beforehand if I can depending on the time of day. you don't have to eat while everyone else is if you aren't hungry (and just say you had a big meal beforehand)

the other thing I've done is if i'm involved in organising the meeting i've offered to arrange the catering!

WillieWaggledagger · 28/08/2012 14:32

omg have just remembered fab meal i had on a course at Oxford Brookes - was expecting sandwiches and they produced a whole poached salmon with homemade mayonnaise it was FABULOUS

AuntieMaggie · 28/08/2012 15:50

My next 2 are residential so I don't think the babybel/salad will survive a long train journey and overnight but I'll be ok on tje first day...

MrsHerculePoirot · 28/08/2012 17:34

AuntieMaggie get one of those lunch boxes with the freezer bit in them. It is seriously The Best Thing Ever for this WOE. Would keep cold snacks cool for your journey.

I should think you might be ok at breakfast so maybe fill up then. If lunch not at all a goer just pass on lunch (and sneak a babybel or pepperami from your bag). Hopefully any dinner would have enough you can eat. Worst case scenario, just eat what you are given, enjoy it and know you can gt straight back to normal very quickly...

Hi All

I have spent the best part of today trying out new things re food. The bast by far was a starter of mushrooms sliced and fried in butter then stir in garlic boursin, serve on a bed of water cress omg its gorgeous and so quick and easy.

I also did BIWI,s home made burgers but with cheese in the middle, again yummy x

sybilfaulty · 28/08/2012 19:39

Loving the recipe chat. Unfortunately a spicy sausage made its way past my lips whilst I was making the kids tea without me realising it. I am so tired today and we have builders in tomorrow so I need to clear some space. That has tempted me towards crap. Back on straight and narrow tomorrow.

Half, the mushroom thing sounds yum.

YY to lunchbox.

NigellasGuest · 28/08/2012 21:04

Does anyone have any ideas about how to make low-carb hot chocolate?
I've tried to look at the nutritional info on a tin of cocoa powder but it only gives %ages when already mixed with milk. I'm thinking of mixing with cream and water, perhaps adding some vanilla essence for sweetness.

does that sound revolting?
Perhaps I could melt a square of green & blacks into some cream or something.....
