BIWI's Two Week Low Carb Boot Camp - starts Monday 16 April

PaquesJeLeVauxBien · 06/04/2012 22:41

I've been back low carbing seriously since February and have lost a stone (almost). I have another 1.5 stones to lose.

It's been going well for me, but I have slowed down in the last month and I'm keen to get things back on track and up the speed of my weight loss. To that end, I have devised a strict two week bootcamp.

It will start on Monday 16 April to give anyone who wants to join in time to sort themselves out, get planning and generally get themselves ready to join in.

Who's up for it?

Here is the recipe. There are no starchy carbs with it, but I don't know how it rates carb wise. Is there any way to alter it to make it even lower in carbs? My friend made it and it was lovely and the kids ate it too.

LackaDAISYcal
I have an underactive thryoid too. And depression. And polycystic ovary syndrome.
My mood got better about a week in because I wasn't having insulin slumps. And this is the ONLY diet I have ever lost on.
Please do mention it to your healthcare people. God knows I am not a doctor nor do I work in anthing to do with health care. However when I told my endocrinologist he said that I would only lose water on this diet.
Guess I lost six and a half stones of water then :) (sloshing noises)

I'm in. Ds is one on 4 may and I can reasonably be back at my pre dc weight by then and even wedding weight by my anniversary. Just over half a stone. Dh is in too. He could do with a stone off and knows it.

I'm scared. And excited.

So inane I posted it twice.

MariaCallous · 10/04/2012 20:55

And I need the spreadsheet

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/04/2012 20:56

Marks place. Had a lovely weekend of eating chips - back on it IN A BIG WAY tomorrow.

ledkr · 10/04/2012 22:11

Getorf-we will put off the session till we have done boot camp then go out in our slinky dresses Grin

GetOrfMoiiLand · 10/04/2012 22:13

YES! Good idea. Get down to our target weights then hit Cheltenham.

Thing is will probably be lightweights than after all the non-drinking and healthy eating way of life, so will be a cheap night out. Grin

BIWI · 10/04/2012 22:33

Dedalus - that recipe looks lovely!

But it could be quite carby. You'd need to weigh the tomatoes, as I don't know how many grams of carbs they would be (3.1g carbs per 100g). The carrots might be quite carby too - those little carrots are quite sweet, so it would be worth checking if there's a carb count on the pack. And then there's a lot of tomato puree - that's 18.1g carbs per 100g.

BIWI · 10/04/2012 22:34

I had the shepherd's pie tonight, with some grated cheese on the top, and it was very delicious. In no way did it feel like I was eating anything that was a compromise or an inferior version!

LackaDAISYcal · 10/04/2012 22:46

lol at 6 stones of water fatlittlepiggy :o
And bloody well done!!

From my extensive trawling round the www today, most sites say with lupus it's very much an individual response, and what works for some sets others into a flare, but low simple carbs is seen as a good thing. I've left a message for my rheumy nurse though so we'll see what ahe says.

My plan is to see how it goes and if I feel things flaring, I can always stop. Though tbh, I don't see what could go awry just eating meat and veg.

DH did the shopping tonight, and my freezr is full of salmon steaks, belly pork, and chicken thighs, lots of leafy green veg and mushrooms. I'm looking forward to the challenge, given that today has been aday of carb overdose and I feel so sluggish tonight.

TheEvilTwin · 11/04/2012 03:59

Count me in. I want to lose around 10-15 lbs and kick my sugar addiction.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/04/2012 07:10

Thank you BIWI. What are we aiming at per day carb wise?

I am going to struggle without my tea with sugar first thing in the morning! :o

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/04/2012 08:04

Is it about 20g of carbs?

I'm starting today.

BIWI · 11/04/2012 08:54

To be honest, I'm not putting a carb limit on it - that always makes life a bit too difficult, IMO. And there are several veggies who have expressed an interest, and for them it may be better to allow more carbs.

That's why I set out the 10 rules at the beginning, in conjunction with an 'allowed' list of vegetables.

If people want to set themselves a limit, then that's a personal decision.

Or do you all want me to crack the whip more than that?! Grin

ToryLovell · 11/04/2012 09:04

BIWI I will certainly need lots of whip cracking come next week. I've been doing low carb lite this week to wean myself off sugar

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/04/2012 09:06

I'm not sure, I really want to get this right, but tbh, if I cut out all bread, potatoes, pasta and treats, then drink lots of water, I am almost guaranteed to feel better and lose a couple if pounds (well I bloody hope so!) :o

BIWI · 11/04/2012 09:08

I'm sure you will!

BIWI · 11/04/2012 09:10

I am going to research some easy recipes to post, to give people an idea of meals that they can make quickly that are also low carb.

If anyone else has any ideas, please could you do the same?

Once I have a few I'm going to start a separate, specific thread with them so that we can keep them all in one place.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/04/2012 09:16

I like the idea of a low carb fritatta(sp?) If you come across any recipes. I think eggs are my friend for this!

ledkr · 11/04/2012 09:19

Good idea.Im probably going to be fairly boring with dinner tbh, meat and veg cos i cant be bothered to follow recipes when i finish work and have 2 kids to get to bed.

Ill do big salad and fish or meat for lunch but i do need snack ideas as its a long day and we tend to graze on fruit, cereal bars etc.

BWIW-The list of veg you gave, can we eat them in abundance?
Im completely clueless tbh,are there any good websites to peruse.

PosiePaques · 11/04/2012 09:22

ooooo I'm in!!

ledkr · 11/04/2012 09:24

Yes a frittata would be good. Just make as normal but with low carb veg i guess

BIWI · 11/04/2012 09:48

ledkr - after you're in ketosis (will take 2-3 days), you won't be feeling hungry in between meals, so you are much less likely to want to snack. Just make sure that you

a) eat enough at meal times
b) eat enough fat with your meals - so oil-based dressings on your salad, butter on your veg, etc

Re the veg - you will have to be careful with some of them. Onions, for example, are quite a dense veg. A large onion will come to around 200g, which is almost 16g carbs, so it does quickly add up.

If you try and stick to veg that are 3g carbs per 100g or less then you will be fine.
