Hello londone - I'm just a few days ahead of you as I started last Thursday. So far so good Smile

Thanks for snack suggestions - I'm particularly liking the idea of bovril and smoked mackerel, although not together :)

londonone · 13/03/2012 19:27

Headache seems to have passed now, thank goodness. Had delicious salad with chicken and bacon for supper.

Have been recipe researching and found Bagna Cauda (anchovy dip). Also Ceviche on chicory or crispy fried mork mince with thai spices and a splah of lime also on chicory.

AngryFeet · 13/03/2012 19:47

My friend just said me saying I should trying making cabbage crisps. Apparently they are delicious Hmm. Will find out what she is on about and report back...

BIWI · 13/03/2012 20:15

Or - you could make Parmesan crisps? (I mean, I like cabbage, but ... Grin)

Coarsely grate Parmesan to give you a couple of large handfuls.

Pile dollops of cheese onto a baking tray, with gaps between them, and bake until melted and golden brown.

Remove from oven and allow to cool.

You could also sprinkle them with cayenne before you bake them, for extra zing.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 13/03/2012 20:30

I tried making parmesan crisps but they didnt turn out like I wanted, certainly werent crispy. Maybe I did something wrong.

TheOriginalGlitterKitty · 13/03/2012 20:49

I'm having that day too PrincessTamTam. Everything is going wrong, busy day at work, tired, DS tantrumming over bedtime EVERY night, just deleted big long post, stuck to diet perfectly in fact I thought I had been doing really well but put on 1.5lbs when I weighed this eve, blah blah blah.

I want chocolate so much.

PrincessTamTam · 13/03/2012 21:30

Glitter - Hmmmmmmmm.... chooooocolaaaaaate.... I feel like Homer Simpson.Grin

GetOrfMoiiLand · 13/03/2012 21:38

I have been very good today - it has been hard though, I have been travelling all over, and spending time in train stations. I didn't take a packed lunch with me as I left so early, and there is BUGGER ALL to eat at train stations apart from baguettes, pain au chocolats, scones or muffins. I ended up getting a pepperami and some chicken bites from a skanky spar - low carb but christ knows what's in it.

Just had some smoked salmon and scrambled egg.

I was also 10.11 this morning. So a mysterious 2lbs overnight loss.

Thanks BIWI for your info - I find your posts really helpful. It is a funny weightloss and it is very erratic, not at all like a normal diet, the weight loss does seem to come in very strange peaks and troughs.

I went to Boots after work and stared at the diabetic chocolate. They don't have sugar in, as all the carb is made of polyols/maltilol, whatever that is. Does anyone know if that is OK? So I could eat a packet of diabetic toffees and it would be 3g sugar and 25g or so of maltilol and that would be OK? I am thinking it must be, as otherwise diabetics would do allsorts of trouble to their insulin levels, but surely it is too good to be true. I didn't buy any in the end.

I am MISSING my options hot choc and sugar free jellies. I never considered I had a sweet tooth but I really long for something sweet tasting at the moment.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 13/03/2012 21:44

I have just read a few articles online about maltilol and it says that it causes lots of people to stall on weightloss.

So diabetic chocolate binges are out! (unless when constipated Grin)

CointreauVersial · 13/03/2012 21:49

Nice supper tonight - pan-fried some sliced chicken, and then stirred in a spoonful of pesto. Served on rocket, with mini mozzarella and a couple of cherry toms on top.

TheOriginalGlitterKitty · 13/03/2012 22:01

Well, I have had 2 g& slimline t's and a small handful of dark choc chips (least bad thing I could think of- a whole box of thorntons was looking at me though...)

I dont care. I might care when I weigh on Thurs tho. Pah.

flipflopflap · 13/03/2012 22:14

I've been on a food rampage tonight. This usually happens at this totm and I always end up eating a ton of chocolate, however I only has a teeny bit of v.dark choc and some Peanut Butter, then made me some cheese 'crisps' and had them with sour cream and Jalapenos. So I ate quite a lot but at least it wasn't overly carby!

I was also quite surprised to find after weeks of no sugar, that instead of being quite bitter the dark chocolate tasted really sweet. It's an 80% cocoa one and I would never really have eaten it before LCing.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 13/03/2012 22:17

Bloody hell can you eat peanut butter? I must have missed that?

Has it got to be that health food shop crap stuff or will sunpat do?

I have not had a drink for nearly 2 weeks - I put a bottle of prosecco in the freezer to cool down on saturday night, then forgot, and opened the freezer Sunday morning to find the cork had blown out and it hasd fizzed and frozen all over the place in a proseccoey slush puppy. What a waste. Even my bloody freezer knows I am on a diet. Grin

BornToShopForcedToWork · 13/03/2012 22:39

How are you all? I didn't low carb for a few days as I was ill, luckily I didn't put on any weight and I just started yesterday again.

flipflopflap · 13/03/2012 22:40

Peanut butter is relatively low carb, but make sure it's sugar free. Sunpat, and most other supermarket brands are loaded with sugar, so it has to be the health shop variety, sorry!

BIWI · 13/03/2012 23:00

LOL @ controlling freezer!!!

TBH, I would try and avoid the sweet stuff if you can (unless you are constipated again Grin). Try and break yourself of the need for it.

And I know, that is much easier to say than to do ...

I was quite shocked by the sudden drop in the scales today, and I'm not entirely sure it will have been sustained tomorrow. But I've had two days of no carbs, just as a kind of 'jump start', which seems to have worked.

If it is sustained, then I have less than 2lbs to go before I've lost a stone!

QueenStromba · 14/03/2012 00:09

I'd treat maltitol as sugar really. Sucrose (table sugar) has a glycaemic index of 59 and maltitol has a GI of 48. By way of comparison, xylitol has a GI of 7 and erythritol has a GI of 0. I reckon the latter two are fine and Atkin's bars only use maltitol because it's cheap and people might not notice that their diets are stalling because of them.

Oh - and thanks, GOML Smile

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 14/03/2012 08:06

I am feeling really low today and no idea why. Sad Although I had very weird dream last night and woke up with a start, had to text DH to check that we are not moving to Australia...

Going to make some eggs for breakfast and see if that helps at all.

BIWI · 14/03/2012 08:07

Sorry to hear that Jax.

It looks like it's going to be a nice day today - can you get out and have a walk in a local park? Admire all the spring flowers and stuff that's budding at the moment?

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 14/03/2012 09:21

Ive been out with the dogs up the hills and I still dont feel much better. No idea whats the matter with me today. I weighed myself this morning and 3lbs down which is fab, but I dont even care today. Sad

Going to the hygienist soon so maybe that will perk me up... doubt it.

DH kept asking me what was wrong last night and cuddled me in for ages, I said nothing, because I felt ok... but he said it felt like something was bugging me and I wasnt 'right' anyway this morning woke up feeling down in the dumps.

Maybe it's because we got some quotes for a porch and they are very high.

I'm just going to get some house stuff done with music on and get on with the day.

PostBellumBugsy · 14/03/2012 09:38

In "Why We Get Fat" Gary Taubes (my complete & utter low carb hero) says that artificial sweetners can trigger an insulin response & that is what stalls weightloss.

Insulin is the primary hormone for fat storage & low carb works so well because it reduces the bodies requirement to produce insulin.

However, for some of us, just the thought of sweet food will trigger the production of insulin - because our body has had years & years of practise to know that when we think of sweet food, the real stuff invariably follows & therefore it needs to chuck out a load of insulin to keep our blood sugar levels normal & store any excess energy as fat.

I think I am one of those people who must chuck out a load of insulin even if I think about sweet food - because if I start including those sugar free jellies & artificially sweetened products much more than twice a week - I always stall.

Have not lost much in past 2 weeks after a whopping stone in the first two weeks, but I ahve definitely lost inches as clothes are a lot looser and people are commenting. Not sure if weeks 3 and 4 is normal Atkins stall or down to artificial sweeteners though.
Going to cut them out this week and see...

Hello all

Can anyone give me a couple of low carb suggestions for buying lunch at work? I've got a tub of cottage cheese with me but would love some other suggestions.
