Hello:)

I got back from our family holiday last week, uploaded our photo's and i had the shock of my life, what has happened to me! My DD got a bit snap happy with the camera and boy i could have cried:(

So i have decided to start the Dukan diet, been shopping, so all prepared (i think) got my target etc, but i am looking for any advice from people who have already done it, did you struggle, find it easy and have you reached your target? Any recipes? Anything really, i suppose i need a bit of motivation, as i have no will power and a huge chocoholic!!

My target weight lose, through the Dukan site is -34lbs, huge amount!

Thank you

Just started the Dukan today. It can't be this easy, can it? I love eggs, meat and fish and to be eating this is boring but sustainable. I'm not hungry, I have energy enough to exercise and it's simple and easy meals.

Am I naive? Will it get ridiculously difficult?

planetpotty · 01/10/2011 22:04

Hello purples and Fatshionista :)

I find posting on here really helps like you said purples for the support as well as the guidance also I like being able to look back at my earlier posts and keep a track of where I am lb loss wise.

Im so excited about the Dukan love love love it - mainly as it bloody well works! I think its easy to stick to but I have to be organised with the shopping for the meals.

Hope everyones getting on ok :) Planet has been good and managed to stay booze and carb free this Saturday evening Shock

purples · 02/10/2011 10:05

Hi, thanks bananamama for the idea of muffins, i'll look up the recipe and give them a try, I'm just so used to having something with my cuppa. And the idea of sugar free jelly sound too good to be true! I'll have to check out the shops for some, it'd be lovely to have some on my yogurt. All the flavoured yogurts I've seen all have added sugar, so I'm steering away from those.
And planetpotty I know what you mean about it being easy to stick to, I know what I can and can't eat, I've always had the problem of snacking on carbs and thinking "well its only a small slice so it won't matter", but eventually it all caught up with me and the pounds went on my hips! But so far I'm very impressed with the easy of this diet, I'm on day 5 and its going well. Plan to weight myself on Wednesday and I'll see how it's doing then!
Hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine this weekend :)

Lost 7lb doing attack for a week.....yeah!

have gained 1lb after a week on cruise......boooo!

anyone else experienced this - please tell me it will all fall off next week

kitya · 02/10/2011 13:50

has anyone cheated and had a couple of g and t in the attack phase?

bananamam · 02/10/2011 15:03

Cadoon a week sounds long for an attack phase, maybe by doing it so long then doing cruise you have retained water?....it will probably even out as you do pp and pv days....try to weigh in every few days on cruise rather than daily too as your weight will go up and down a bit so it can be discouraging if you see a gainSmile

bananamam · 02/10/2011 15:04

Kitya I cheated a couple of times, then just did an extra attack day as you fall out of ketosis Smile

cardoon · 02/10/2011 17:03

I had more than a couple of sherrys hence the 7 days of attack Blush

I didn't get on the scales for a whole week then weighed myself this morning and discovered the gain - I have not been as strict as I could have been though..........mayo, sausages, vanilla muller and too many cups of tea........gaahhh it's not easy is it!

Are you all being terribly good?

How come you can eat so much fat on the Atkins diet?

bananamam · 02/10/2011 17:42

I drink endless cups of tea, and eat sausages and bacon. I think if you are very strict it becomes like any diet nd un-manageable

I also eat ice poles Blush in vast quantitates sometimes......

cardoon · 02/10/2011 18:47

hmmmmm, ice poles you say, great idea! - are they sugar free?

I've bought some lovely extracts today to jazz up 0% yoghurt

purples · 02/10/2011 21:47

Hi cardoon today I bought some lemon extract and a low calorie sweetener (supposedly only 2 calories per teaspoon!) and it tastes great with yogurt. :)

Tried to buy the ingredients to make muffins but my local supermarket didn't have any fat free fromage frais :( (it was Sunday afternoon, so they were low on stock and its not a massive supermarket- have to try somewhere else tomorrow)

But I did have a go at the dukan cookie recipe. The cookies looked a little odd; almost a cross between cookies/meringue and tasted a little strange, but it was nice to have something with a different texture. I'll definitely try the cookie recipe again, :) and I really want to have a go at the muffins. I'll let you know how they turn out!

I'm planning to weight myself Wed, that's day 8. Don't know if I actually want to see the scale: hope I've lost some weight but I'm dreading the idea that I've gone through a week of this and not lost anything. Hopefully should be losing weight as I've stuck to it, I'll see the truth on Wed and hopefully that will give me the motivation to continue.....

cardoon · 03/10/2011 07:18

I think my homemade, low fat, flavoured yoghurt tastes much better than bought

I've had difficulty getting hold of fromage frais too so substitute with quark, seems to work OK - hard to tell though...the baked goods are just so wierd!

Have lost 1 3/4lb overnight so feeling much better about that

bananamam · 03/10/2011 12:07

I only had a half pound weightless. But it's better than a gain!! Yoghurts sound good

shakti · 03/10/2011 12:49

I have four stone to lose. Two stone has gone on fairly fast, the rest over decades. I am in late forties, feel dreadful and I know that I need to tackle this sooner rather than later.

I have done low carb way back in the past pretty successfully and know I felt good on it. I did Atkins at the time. I am happy without fruit and sweet stuff, like my wine though!! It appears that Dukan is a little healthier than Atkins and i need something I can do for a good few months.

Trouble is I know that my downfall is cheese - I love it, in any form and for every meal! Not really kidding either...

It sounds as though cheese is forbidden pretty much on Dukan and I think I would struggle to stick to it. Chocolate - take it or leave it but yummy stilton - I will leave you to picture the rest!

So, can any of you help me? Pretty please? I need to plan for success this time.

Can I include cheese in dukan, or should I go back to Atkins? Or do any of you know of a half half sort of thing, ie lots of veg, lots of cheese but low carb, do you have any suggestions for where I can look for advice?

cardoon · 03/10/2011 14:34

shakti I've had the occasional baby belle or hunk piece of cheese and have still lost, so..... if you could control it, would be OK I think - just slows things down.

For me Dukan is far more do-able than atkins and can see me sticking to it for much longer.

moolie1 · 03/10/2011 20:03

Hello:)

Well i have had two very naughty daysBlush Cake, chocolate, party food, lots of wine, etc, etc, etc...well it was my birthday!!

Back on the attack tomorrow, for a few days, get back into it. My fridge and cupboards are all stocked again, so no excuses nowGrin

Hi, to all i have not met yet, hope it is all going well for you.

OP posts:
bananamam · 03/10/2011 20:35

Well I started well with an omelette for breakfast.....but then ate a 1955 burger from macro mcdonalds Blush ooops!!!! Back on track tomorrow!!!!

planetpotty · 04/10/2011 08:24

Eeerrr think the Devil has been at work with us Dukaners Hmm I too had a m...m....m....mcdonalds Blush Blush Blush it was AAAAALLLLL DH's fault he made me do it, he did, he did!

Im was feeling crap yesterday, but TBH if I had been more organised with the food shop I may have been less inclined to jump off the waggon!

Even with the couple of carbfests I have lost a proper half a stone in two weeks which I am very very pleased with and it has kick started me into the weight loss. I going to switch to a 1000 cals a day diet for a few weeks and then when that all goes horribly wrong do a few PP weeks in between.

Will keep popping in from time to time if thats ok, especially to catch up with you moolie as we had exactly the same to loose.

It really does work and if I was stronger and richer! I would carry on with Dukan it really does work and I will do my very very best to keep the carbs down as I have learned they are not the be all and end all :)

So Mr Dukan its au rivior for now Grin

BakeliteBelle · 04/10/2011 10:08

shakti I like a bit of cheese too and the thing that gives me hope on this diet is that you eventually get round to eating normal food again once the weight is lost... No lifelong stilton ban, just lay off it for the time being. In the Attack phase, I just yearned for fresh salad, not carbs or cheese as I expected.

My attack phase lasted 4 days as I felt so grim - exhausted and tearful and couldn't do my usual walking and gardening which seemed counter productive.

Lost about 4lbs in 8 days. Slow but sure.

Feeling a bit better with the addition of vegetables but still a bit cranky especially in the evening and energy not great. Had two glasses of wine over the 8 days, a massive alcohol reduction for me! They tasted like nectar and I enjoyed them so much more than I usually do.

Hope everyone is doing ok and keeping on keeping on losing weight

prolificwillybreeder · 04/10/2011 11:15

Hello, can I join you? I've been reading my book- it's a tad confusing!
But tomorrow is day one of my 3 day attack phase.
I'm struggling with the yogurt info. What yogurt should I be eating? FF plain? I take it muller light is off limits?
I blooming hope this works!
Is green tea a good option? Assists weightless apparently.
I'm a tad nervous. I've been dithering about what diet to do and investigating a few but Mr Dukan seems the way forward.
Hope everyone is well and doesn't mind my somewhat silly questions!

cardoon · 05/10/2011 17:55

Don't be nervous pwb, It's really very easy as you don't feel hungry and the weight falls off like no other diet I've tried.

I think FF plain yoghurt mixed with splenda and vanilla (or any other) extract works best - and tastes nicest - for me.

I think green tea is a great option but I do like my builders tea so stick with that

BakeliteBelle · 06/10/2011 09:38

profilific, I have been buying zero fat plain yoghurt and eating tons of the stuff. Great for a sweet kick when you feel weak, with a bit of Splenda and I've made lots of herby dips with it. Most flavoured yogs seem to have sugar in them.

I am a coffee fiend so I make flasks of decaf to take around with me all day. I grab a coffee whereas I would normally grab a bag of crisps. Think I would fail if I had to drink herb tea all day, it leaves me feeling so empty.

I love those galettes - am I weird? They feel like the only non-meaty/fishy indulgence I get. I use my two tablespoons of oatbran per day to make two galettes - one for the morning and one for my dangerous time in the evening with smoked salmon and the Dukan mayo.

Have gone from 13st to 12.7 in 11 days. Yippee!

cardoon · 06/10/2011 11:14

When I say FF I meant fat free..... NOT* full fat Grin

bananamam · 06/10/2011 15:34

Well I have apparantly gaind a pound and a half!!!....I am ovulating to praying it is water weight!>.....I was 10st3(and a half) and I went down to 9.13.....back to 10 and a half Sad. ....this is partly why I stopped dukan as I found I was not loosing much after I hit 9.10 ish....BUT it def helped me loose the best part of almost 5 stone prior to that, which took about 8 months...and was well worth it.

I did much up and have a seeded role today, but it was stuffed with pulled pork which was fab. Going for an hours walk later to try and even it out a bit!!!

BakeliteBelle · 06/10/2011 17:21

5 stone. Wow banana!
