  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY

CY - today is a new day, forget about yesterday and just do what you can.

I am too upset to eat at the moment and can recognise that how I am feeling right now is I want to comfort eat. I know I am not hungry. It is a new feeling and realisation for me.

SilveryMoon · 19/05/2011 08:33

Cheerful I'm sorry things aren'y great in your marriage atm and you are feeling so sad Sad

I ate a 230g bar of chocolate last night, spent all night feeling sick and a fair bit of it on the bog!
Everyone else here is ok, so it had to be something I ate that no one else did....................................................................think I might do a bit of Paul-style visualisation and memory exercise with that next time I want chocolate

BsshBossh · 19/05/2011 09:18

Okay, it's a new (and sunny) day today. I'm still feeling under the weather but I'm going to be extra careful today: as HowToLookGood suggested up thread, I resolve today to only eat when hungry - I am actually not going to eat until my tummy physically growls. Even with my head full of cold, my tummy's fine so I am going to be vigilant for its hunger signals. I'll let you know how I get on at the end of the day.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 19/05/2011 09:21

Morning :)

Yank :( Have a ((hug)) you sound so sad. Can you use the techniques to try and feel more positive about other areas of your life?

Fab - it is amazing when you realise isn't it? Mine is this incredible emotional hunger that descends on me when DS2 starts crying, it is literally like a switch in my head that makes me want to cram food in - especially when I am tired. It comes at other times too, but this is when I am noticing it most atm.
I cannot believe I have been so dense as to not see this for what it is my whole life.

Today could be a hard day, we had a bad night with DS2 and then DS1 woke up at 6.30am which is unheard of for him, so I'm exhausted already.
However, at least I am aware of the pitfalls so I can be mindful of them.

I am wearing a size 16 top today :):)

knaveofhearts · 19/05/2011 10:33

Hi Everyone,

DH has taken the kids to his mother's for two days - it's very quiet here! At the moment I think I like it but think it will be very odd later when they're not here for tea and bathtime. Am going to go shopping this morning I think and maybe run/swim/sauna later as I really enjoyed that last week.

Think I have been pauling well this week after tartgate but I haven't been listening to the CD much so think I should make more time for that. Niecie I think he sounds unsufferably smug a lot of the time and I agree, a little bit croaky. Still, he's doing me good so judgeypants off!

Hi DrMuffy and StickWithIt (waving!). You are both doing amazingly already. 2lb off and chocolate resisted are both great acheivements. I have serious control issues around chocolate so I know exactly where you're coming from.

BssBossh So glad you're feeling better. Smile

HowTo Bloody brilliant! Grin

Nora Taekwondo? That is seriously cool. I'm so glad you enjoyed it - sounds like your confidence has taken a great big leap.

FAB and celestial Don't worry. Like everyone said, we've all been there. Be kind to yourselves, dust yourselves down and have another bash. If we've all been using food for comfort for years there are bound to be a few slips along the way as we learn not to.

FAB Does agnus castus work for PMT then? I never used to get it but since DS was born I am a seething ball of rage over nothing for a couple of days and I hate myself for it. Will try anything!

CY You sound so sad. I hope you are ok. We're always here if you want to talk. Otherwise have an unmumsnetty (((hug))) and a Brew.

Ali Sorry you're so knackered, it's rotten but have a bloody big Grin for the top!

TheOriginalFAB · 19/05/2011 10:42

My GP put me on AC as he wanted to take me off AD's but I can't manage without them so take both (often forget the AC and then pay for it the next month.

I have to post and run as taking DD to hospital. I haven't had anything to eat yet and only now am I thinking I am starting to feel hungry. Is that because I ate more than I really needed last night with the roly poly?

BsshBossh · 19/05/2011 10:47

FAB, yes you're not hungry because you ate more than you needed last night. Isn't it wonderful how our bodies are self-regulating machines when we allow them to be?

Hope the hospital visit is okay.

ppeatfruit · 19/05/2011 11:01

yeah Solo 'cos you're REALLY tasting it! we don't eat it cos it gives us arthritis!! BTW how's it all going with cub ? well done nora. Nothing is a FAILURE on P.M. TheoriginalFAB Smile

SilveryMoon · 19/05/2011 11:29

Right, *I am losing the plot.
I ate a massive bar of chocolate last night, spent all night feeling really ill, was still hungry when I got up so still ate breakfast, just had lunch and am feeling that I'm not doing this right!! aarrggghhhh
Gonna buy a small stereo for the bedroom today to ensure I can listen to the cd every day.
I also have some page markers that I am going to put into the book so inspirational bits and exercises etc are found quickly when I need them.

BsshBossh · 19/05/2011 11:48

Silvery, can you do what I am doing to kickstart yourself, which is: allow myself to get properly hungry and don't eat at all until my stomach properly physically growls. I need to reaquaint myself with that basic feeling of hunger. So far it's working.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 19/05/2011 12:44

Silvery - I have found the key is to not eat too much too late at night. Then I wake up properly hungry, eat breakfast and then I am hungry again at lunchtime.
If I am only a bit hungry when I'm giving DS1 his lunch, then I just have a little and put the rest in the fridge and then eat the rest when I am hungry again a couple of hours later.

I am teaching myself not to be scared of being hungry. Yes I might feel hungry, but if it is going to be dinner time in half an hour then I can wait without sliding all the way down to ravenous and feeling faint. I am responding to being hungry, but not necessarily that very moment.
I can't tell you what a huge step this is. Previously I would have grabbed toast, cake, a biscuit or three or whatever was handy even if a meal was imminent. No wonder I have got to this size!

CheerfulYank · 19/05/2011 13:17

BsshBossh I will try that. I have been noticing when I'm mindlessly eating, which is a start. I used to just find myself eating and have no idea why. Food amnesia :)

Thanks for your kind words, everyone. I think things will be fine, but it's such a hard road to fine sometimes, isn't it?

MerylStrop · 19/05/2011 14:20

May I join? A bit Johnny-come-lately I know but I have just ordered the PM book and a book's no fun unless you have someone to talk about it with

I can't do diets. I never needed to diet really prekids, a bit more running around and a bit less red wine and I'd ping back into shape if I gained a few pounds. But now I find myself, just turned 41, three babies in 5 years, no time, no energy and 4 stone overweight. I eat when I am bored or when I'm fed up and I need to STOP IT. Will PMcK help?

PositiveAttitude · 19/05/2011 14:27

Hope the hospital appointment is ok, Fab.

CY its Sad that life is a bit rubbish at the moment for you.

I had a bit of a revelation this morning. I was sorting out my summer wardrobe when I realised that I had been in denial for far longer than i had thought about my size. Blush I have a lovely outfit from a wedding about 9 years ago (its a classic dress thing and I still love it, not all my clothes are 9 years old Shock )
The dress is the size that I thought I had been when I started Pauling. I was a lot bigger than 9 years ago! Also, a few shirt tops that I had in my "size" I had worn undone with a t-shirt underneath. Today I realised that it was because they had not done up around my belly. I do feel as if my brain is slowly sorting itself out though, so I suppose thats good, not to be denying any more. Hmm

Off to a governors meeting now. Always cake there, but i am not hungry, so going to say "No".

florencerusty · 19/05/2011 14:32

well I have the book in my paws - read 1/3 over lunch and hoping DD will nap and I will crack on. What next? Do I start tomorrow? Can I plug the cd in and listen on headphones whilst falling asleep? Will it work if I am dozing? bloody hell, feel really unsure of myself here. Not sure I know how full feels or how hunger differs from craving but really really want this to work :(

TheOriginalFAB · 19/05/2011 14:48

The hospital appointment was fine, thank you though I was stressing out that 45 minutes after the appointment we finally went in. DD has been signed off!!! That is the good news. The not so great news is that the doctor felt that DD's head aches are caused by stress over her school work.Sad. She is incredibly bright and is the type to want everything to be perfect. I hope to talk to her teacher asap.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 15:13

I had written out a long reply which was disrupted by some sort of maintenance on MN so here is what I said in brief:

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 15:19

Meryl, welcome to our lovely, supportive and happy thread. PMK could very well help you; he's certainly helping us :)

You don't need to plan your meals to a certain time and you don't need to restrict your food types. If you can, please read our thread and get inspired and see how easy our non diet works if you follow the rules set out in the OP :) Good luck!

florencerusty · 19/05/2011 15:23

really Solo?

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 15:23

Hi Flo!!! Yes to falling asleep through the CD's. I always fall asleep.
I have only just really in the last week or so realised that hungry feeling and also the full up feeling. It's a revelation it really is.
You can start today if you want to, it's easy :)

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 15:24

Flo? really what?

florencerusty · 19/05/2011 15:44

is it really easy?

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 19/05/2011 15:58

solo - Cub :) What does that mean? Grin Wink

florence - it really is. Trust your body - if you listen to it then it will tell you when it needs to eat.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 15:58

I certainly think so flo. It took me a while to 'get' it with the hungry/full signals, but I find the chewing loads easy and I'm certainly losing weight now. I have also started to glance in the mirror first think and give myself a positive comment when before it was an insult... something is working. :)

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 16:01

Cub :) means it's really lovely atm. He sends me a text most mornings saying something like 'Morning beautiful, hope you slept well, I missed you last night.x' (we talk by phone) and no! we haven't done anything yet Blush !
