Sparkling new thread Grin

Firstly, the Golden Rules

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONCIOUSLY
  4. STOP when you are satisfied

Here is the book on Amazon which is all you need to get started!

This is the tapping technique explained - this can be useful for cravings.

Please feel free to join us :)

mycat great to have you back. I gad a big wobble over Easter too - it's a hard time. Don't beat yourself up over it.

lady good luck going back to work. I'm dreading that - my DD is six months. Have a keep in touch day today so will see how that goes.

Niecie · 09/05/2011 09:14

Morning ladies (we are all ladies aren't we?! Apologies if any of you are men!)

Today is day 1 proper for me. I have spent the last week farting about reading the book and dabbling with the rules but I weighed myself this morning and have put on a couple of pounds over Easter which is not good although AF is imminent so that probably has something to do with it. It is going to be really hard but I hope not to weigh in again until next weekend at the earliest. I can't give up the scales just yet because it takes so long to feel it in my clothes (at least a stone) that I need the scales to let me know I am on the right track. Maybe if I know that for sure I can ditch them eventually but not for a little while yet.

Anyway, what do you reckon, a couple of stone by the summer hols? That won't be a whole dress size (you can see why I need the scales - 2.5 months is a long time to wait for definite proof of loss rather than a suspicion) but will be getting there.

Right, off to have a bit of breakfast as unusally I am hungry.

Happy Pauling everybody!Smile

DottyDot · 09/05/2011 09:31

Morning all!

I'm feeling good this morning - ready for a positive week ahead and have promised myself I'll do some of my DVD tonight as well (the dreaded shred Grin).

I'm going to Centreparcs in 5 weeks' time - haven't bought a swimming costume yet - am going to wait until a few days before in the hope that I can see some difference to how I look at the moment!

But I've programmed in some positive thoughts when I squeeze a couple of my fingers - I find this works for me much better than the tapping - will try to use it all day to really make sure it's sunk in.

BsshBossh · 09/05/2011 09:45

Niecie whether you lose 2 stones by the summer holidays depends on how much you have to lose in total, I think. I started off at 15 stones 10 weeks ago and I'm 5ft 4 (dress size 18); this morning I clocked in at 12 stones 11 (dress size 16). I know I've lost weight quickly because I had a lot of weight to lose in the first place and totally expect it to go more slowly as I progress with my weightloss goals. Those with less total weight to lose will lose it much more slowly. The best thing to do is to just crack on with it, stick religiously to the four golden rules and weigh in a fortnight later to check in that you're on track.

I need to use the scales because not using them allowed the weight to creep on in the first place (I weighed myself at 30, then at 37 and then at 40 - which is my age now! No wonder I lost sight of my weight-creep!).

ladywhiteadder · 09/05/2011 10:03

Aaaargh, the shred! Does anyone manage to stick out the 30 days? I keep getting derailed. Sure I'd see results if I could just knuckle down....

DottyDot · 09/05/2011 10:21

Aarrggh indeed! I managed about 10 days (not in a row Blush) when I first got it and even after the first time I could feel a difference - that's what I need at the moment I think - a quick tummy fix to feel a bit better! Am being more realistic this time though - aiming for around 4 evenings a week rather than 30 days in a row Smile

Have drank 2 pints of squash water this morning already - will get my exercise running to the loo for the rest of the day Grin

hippychick66 · 09/05/2011 10:21

Wow this is a busy thread. I have tried to speed read it all. Good luck to those who are starting today. Well done to bssbossh who has lost 3 stone already Grin

Interesting that many of us would like to get our partners to do it too. I would love to see my DH leave some food cos he is satisfied. He always clears his plate - even if I have dictated how much food goes on the plate. How can I have know exactly how much food HE wanted to eat - arrghh.

Oh well, I'll start with me and see if he decided to join me.

florencerusty · 09/05/2011 10:22

just poking in for a peep. Was pointed here but not sure my head is up to a new regime - is it really doable?

Niecie · 09/05/2011 10:28

BsshBosch - I was hoovering around 16 stone this morning so plenty to lose. Blush

I was nearly 18st just over a year ago and those 2 stone came off in about 4mths but I wasn't trying very hard tbh - I am 5ft 7lb and don't expect to get down to much under 11st though which means I am nearly a 3rd of the way through my loss and not yet at the stage when it slows down even if it is proving harder that it was 2 stone ago. There are about 13 weeks between now and the school hols so at 2lbs a week I should be able to do it. I hope. I have said that before!! Sad

Agree about the scales - more dangerous not to use them than to use them occasionally at the moment. I need to stop looking every day but I am getting there on that.

StarlightMcKenzie · 09/05/2011 10:29

Thanks for the tip Solo. I haven't even GOT the book, let alone read it. I just figured that this thing is going to have to go slowly and I can start by trying to be nice to myself.

The last 2 days I haven't eaten as much as I could have, but I'm not certain that double-cream pasta sauce is going to help me lose weight even if I only eat 2/3 what I would have. Still, it's a start that I enjoyed it without feeling guilty and I was happy to leave some having enjoyed hugely the 2/3 I did eat. Usually I gobble it up before I can register how calorific it is, and then I feel awful for it.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 09/05/2011 11:13

floencerusty its very doable! It's also the easiest way of eating ever - it's what we are born with! Babies & children eat this way naturally - so how can it be hard work? :) Diets dont work long-term, so this would be the last eating change you would ever have to make. I hope you at least give it a try.

starlight doublecream pasta IS going to help you lose weight as long as you eat just enough to satisfy your hunger, and not to satisfy your head. Ive found that I am only having 1/3 of my old portions! Thats plenty to satisfy my hunger. If it isnt, Ill eat more when I am hungry :)

StarlightMcKenzie · 09/05/2011 11:16

Thanks howto. One thing that isn't going to work is the 30 day shred. I pushed myself harder than ever for this first time and had to stop after 5 minutes. 20 minutes has passed and my heart rate has only just returned to normal.

TheOriginalFAB · 09/05/2011 11:32

Hello everyone!

Unfortunately DD was in too much pain to walk to school so I haven't done the walk I planned to do but I have been rushing around doing chores.

I have to leave for work in an hour or so and don't think I will be hungry. I won't be home until 3.30 but won't last until then so what do I do? Do I just eat lunch and be done with it?

ppeatfruit · 09/05/2011 11:41

Wow this thread is SOOO busy welcome all newpauls! Theoriginal take some fruit and nuts and water (of course) to eat slowly on the move Hi mycat (waves) good to hear from you!...

ppeatfruit · 09/05/2011 11:48

Niecle you're right about the hypno;you can learn while asleep! One sandwich how much exercise are you doing? It really helps with weight loss on paul. Congrats Bssh that's amaazing!!

Niecie · 09/05/2011 12:04

I was reading about hypnosis last night and it seems it is about bypassing the conscious mind which makes sense. There are also degrees of hypnosis which is why I suspect some of us feel like we are asleep (or may actually be if there is snoring. Wink) and some of us still know what is going on and engage with the CD. Studying the unconscious mind and hypnosis are very difficult to study though - for obvious reasons really in that you can't say what is happening to you because you don't know - but if it works it doesn't really matter for us does it!? Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 09/05/2011 12:11

I am having some lunch now as I do feel quite peckish and I can't eat while at work.

ppeatfruit · 09/05/2011 12:28

Sorry about yr name (I just noticed!) Niecie I spose i gave it a french feel 'cos I live in fr. 50% of the time!!

ppeatfruit · 09/05/2011 12:35

Also talking about exercise esp. the shred P.M. says 'No pain NO PAIN'!! If it hurts try dancing, walking, pilates type or just jump up and down while washing up!

DottyDot · 09/05/2011 12:45

I can't find my PM CD anywhere - do you think it's worth buying the book again? I'd like to try the CD again as it didn't seem to have much impact the first time around but maybe I didn't give it long enough? I can probably get a copy for about £6 on Amazon - just dithering!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 09/05/2011 12:53

Ive seen them cheaper on ebay, about £3!

OP posts:
Niecie · 09/05/2011 13:00

Not to worry ppeatfruit - it is a nickname derived from my proper name which apparently has a French origin so what you said was probably quite appropriate! Its a daft name anyway and people often get it wrong but I am just too lazy/unimaginative to change it. When I signed up for MN I never thought that 7 yrs down the line I would still be using it. I would have tried harder to think of something clever if I had known how much of my life would be wasted on MN.

A bit Envy at you living in France 50% of the time though. Smile

DottyDot · 09/05/2011 14:10

fab - thanks - will take a look Smile

BsshBossh · 09/05/2011 14:38

Thanks hippychick66, though it's a little over 2 stones I've lost in 10 weeks, not 3 stones Grin (15 stones to 12 stones 11).

SilveryMoon · 09/05/2011 16:47

Hi all.
I've had a day to myself today so went to the cinema to see Thor. Was very good.
I hadn't had any breakfast or anything o bought a bag of malteasers to take in with me and I have to say, although I ate all of them, I was hungry and I kept full control over that bag.
I did not open them straight away, and I did not scoff them all quickly.
I ate one at a time and left a long gap between each one. Felt really good holding that much power over food.

I haven't caught up with the thread, will do that now Smile
