Bet they are pretty grim if you eat them slowly!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 08/05/2011 12:43

You shoudl be buying the tastiest, yummiest biscuits that you can, if it is biscuits you want to eat. Not some tasteless, cardboardy artificially sweet ones Grin

I know. I said to dh we are having nicer treats but less of them. I just don't know what came over me. I am now about to have a meal from M&S and eating it very slowly. Hopefully it will distract me from the bad pain I have in my stomach.

PositiveAttitude · 08/05/2011 13:11

Thank you for the kick up the bum Whomoved, no I do not want to backslide!! My problem has always been that when I have been "dieting" I have become obsessed with food, then when I am not I have just not thought about it, but eaten crap. What I really like about Pauling is that I had not been obsessed at all, only thought about food when I am hungry etc., but when I have been hungry I have enjoyed thinking "MMmm what do I really want to eat?" I had been feeling so much better in myself too. I noticed yesterday that after over-eating I was feeling all sluggish again, so today I want my energy back. I have already lost at least one dress size from where I was 3 weeks ago. I have set my goals alongside treating myself with buying clothes as I size reduce myself Grin , also having a massage and my hair coloured are planned too. I will be a swishy-haired, massaged, beautifully groomed, well-dressed lady in a few months! Grin
I have also been thinking about how lovely it will be this time next year to be able to say "This time last year I was x-stone heavier!".

onesandwichshort · 08/05/2011 14:13

Yay for one dress size PA! That's really good going. And also BsshBossh, you must be so chuffed.

My clothes all still fit me, but I am starting to feel, at last, that it is all clicking for me. I am eating more slowly, and I'm definitely eating when I am hungry, so that is starting to feel good. I've also noticed that I'm snacking less on my real trigger foods in my weak time, which is 5pm when I'm preparing DD's tea. In fact, what I've discovered is that if I have a cup of tea with one sugar in, that gives me the energy boost I need and then I don't snack at all. So I am learning what I want.

I've also just started the 90 Day Success Journal (which PositiveAttitude very kindly sent over and is much appreciated). So far it has been a success, because it's made me do the mirror exercise which I normally swerve entirely. If it throws up any interesting questions or ideas, I'll let you know, although most of the days seem to be a checklist to make sure I've eaten when I'm hungry, drunk water (I'm drinking much more water at the moment too) and so on.

So it all feels good, now I'd just like some signs that I am getting thinner. As I haven't weighed myself at all, I have no idea whatsoever, and that's beginning to get me down.

ShrinkingNora, I've never dared weigh my boobs, it would be too frightening (FF cup!).

ObiWanKenobi · 08/05/2011 15:28

All this talk of boobs reminds me of this article - www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/may/06/does-your-bra-fit-properly.

So remember, if you're losing weight you probably need a new bra!

PositiveAttitude · 08/05/2011 15:44

Ohhhhh!! I cant wait until I can buy a nice sexy bra rather than the over-shoulder-boulder-holders I have now. Grin

DingDongMerrilyOutOfSeason · 08/05/2011 15:54

Everybody is doing so well! I have to wait til Thursday to weigh myself but will be pleased if I have lost any weight, seem to have been gaining for so long! I agree with those posters who say they have to see they scales to believe the weight loss so roll on Thursday, please all think thin for me Grin

Weekend was not as good as during the week, more alcohol and more food around all day long but still better than any weekend in recent memory. I keep reminding myself that if I'm not hungry I wont enjoy the food which I know is true as after a chocolate binge I want to cry, but at the time it feels soooooo gooooood... I am exactly like he describes in the book, if you could see me eating chocolate I am in a trance, just eating as much as I can as quickly as possible and then feel disgusted. Haven't done that since I started though so some of the message is definitely getting through.

Have a great week!

shrinkingnora · 08/05/2011 15:54

I have royally fucked up and need some kind words.

onesandwichshort · 08/05/2011 16:01

Of course. How about, it's just one day, and one bit of eating, and your body will make up for it by eating less tomorrow. And that one episode doesn't take away from the fact that you've been doing really well until now, and it certainly doesn't make you a bad person

shrinkingnora · 08/05/2011 16:07

Keep it coming.

onesandwichshort · 08/05/2011 16:15

And it's only food and you know now that it doesn't control your life or decide how you feel, so you can put it behind you and get on with the rest of the day and weekend and week in the way that you choose. Is there something nice that you can go and do for yourself that will be a treat or make you feel better?

BsshBossh · 08/05/2011 16:17

Nora, be kind and gentle to yourself. You've eaten for the wrong reasons for so long now - we all have - that you cannot be expected to get it right every minute of the day. This is a slow and gradual change for you to last you for the rest of your life. As one says, take it a bite at a time and always remember that tomorrow is another day - better yet, the next minute is a better minute.

TheOriginalFAB · 08/05/2011 16:44

Nora - don't beat yourself up. Have you killed anyone? No, then you haven't fucked up. Start again from now.

whomovedmychocolate · 08/05/2011 17:36

Nora how long have you been doing this. Did you really think you would be the one person who didn't have a bad day? Shock

Look, you've had many, many years of conditioning yourself to eat too much and a few short months to learn not to. It would be a miracle if you didn't have troubles on the way to success. But you'll get there. Say 'ah sod it tomorrow is another day' and stop beating yourself up. :)

neverputasockinatoaster · 08/05/2011 17:37

Hello all,

I sort of joined you last week but I'm rejoining you if that's OK?

I weighed myself this morning and I'm 15 stone 13. Given that I'm 5 foot 2 its not a good situation.

I have been listening to the CD this week but I always fall asleep! If I am awake I am still very aware of the world around me.... maybe I'm just not hypnotisable? Are there such people and is that a word?

I do struggle with the rules... not the eating what I want one.... never had a problem with that one!!!! (hence ths size I am!)

I struggle to eat when hungry as I am at work and I can only eat at break times... usually I go past hungry and into starving and thus into stuffing my face!

I eat too quickly as well.... possibly a hang over from small children but possibly not. Thus I find it hard to stop eating once I'm full as I don't get the message!

Tomorrow will be the start of week one officially for me. I think I will keep a journal but not PM's one as I couldn't get on with it last time.... I just felt guilty if I went through the checklists and hadn't doen something!

Wish me luck. My first goal is to lose a stone. WHEN I've done that I am going to buy myself some nice lineny tops from sainsbos as they are lovely. I will then set a new goal!

SilveryMoon · 08/05/2011 17:47

It's not even starting again nora It's all fine. i had some chocolate earlier even though I wasn't hungry, doesn't matter, I didn't eat the whole bar and even if I had, I've done ok for the past 3 days.
i don't know how long you've been doing this for, but whatever it is you've done cannot take away the progress you have made.

An ok day here. Popped into town with a friend who wanted to have lunch in pizza express. I was afraid. Pizza is my ultimate favourite food.
What I ended up doing was ordering 1 pizza and 1 garlic bread for me and my 2 ds's to share.
I had 2 slices of pizza.
I did feel really good that I kept the control over what I ate and didn't let the food control me, but, I'll be completely honest here, the boys didn't eat that much so there was still pizza left and a part of me was really pissed off that I couldn't eat it as I'd paid £9 for it. I know that sounds really awful, but I often think about how much money I spend on food and then what, I'll cook it just so I can leave it on my plate? Winds me up a bit.
Now, I can hear you all say, well at home you can freeze leftovers pr put it in the fridge for tomorrow, but no. Dp eats everything. he will eat a shepherd's pie to serve 4 people all to himself. he is not fat, but he does not snack.

Found some knitting needles and have cast on so will be doing a bit of that later of I need to divert attention from eating.
I'm still at beginner stage with the knitting so won't be producing anything exciting!

Niecie · 08/05/2011 18:11

neverputasock - I am new to this too so I stand to be corrected if I am wrong but surely hypnotism means not really being aware of what is going on? I suspect you aren't properly asleep but in a hypnotic trance like state. A bit like when you have a sedative at the dentist, if you ever have - apparently you aren't asleep because you can do what you are told but you don't remember a thing about it. If feels like sleep, at least to me, but the dentist doesn't see it that way. You can also hear when you are lightly asleep anyway so hopefully the CD is working even if it is proper sleep.

Goals are a good idea imo - especially those that involve new clothes. Smile

whomovedmychocolate · 08/05/2011 18:22

Niecie - I never go into a state where I am not aware of my surroundings. Some would say that means I cannot be hypnotised. However it still works for me :)

SilveryMoon · 08/05/2011 18:26

Well, I must be asleep seeing as I don't 'come round' until long after the cd has finished.
I did have 1 evening of waking up a few minutes after the cd had finished (I play it through my dvd player so know it wasn't long after because of the screen iykwim). My snoring woke me Blush

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 08/05/2011 18:44

Silverymoon - if your DP is eating yoru leftovers, its not wasted is it? :) You have a few options - cook less, serve less, freeze leftovers (would your DP eat frozen food??) or just realise that once its been prepared, its wasted wether its in someons tummy or in the bin. In the bin, it is doing no harm, if its sitting as "extra" food in someomes tummy, then its possibly doing harm. Better to be wasted than waisted! Grin

Lol HTLGG That's a good one, like it Grin wasted/waisted hehehehe

ladywhiteadder · 08/05/2011 19:55

Can I join up too? Have been following the program for 2 weeks now. I lost 4lb in the 1st fortnight but 4 inches too so really chuffed. I used to be really slim, active and sensible (everything in moderation) before DD, then cancer, then DS but now seem unable to control myself. I have found PM really helpful for relearning about hunger and satiety and I haven't needed willpower as I seem to be gravitating towards fruit, veg and protein. I am struggling with eating consciously as I am forever distracted by small people at the table!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 08/05/2011 20:10

Here is an idea for those who are having trouble recognising true hunger. Let yourself get hungry. You shoudl not fear being hungry, its not an emergency. Nothing bad will happen if you get hungry or postpone dinner by an hour :). This will let you get properly hungry, and let you feel what it fels like. Listen ot it, and see how it feels different to your other urges to eat. A lot of overweight people, me included, react to the first signs of hunger. Let it go a stage further, enjoy feeling empty & light in your tummy. Then eat, and enjoy the full flavour of every mouthfull.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 08/05/2011 20:12

Welcome lady :) Small children are indeed a distraction! I find it gives me a good excuse to put down my fork though, and deal with them before going for the next mouthfull.
