FIL died this afternoon :(

It was expected though - and he had not been conscious since yesterday or even the day before, so at least it wasn't too prolonged. :(

OP posts:
bebejones · 10/02/2011 18:02

Oh Pretty I am so so sorry! Hoping it was peaceful for dFIL :(

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2011 18:12

No never suffers from nose bleeds

Dh saw a ent specialist and has a clot up nose. Lady removed it and calterized it

Still at a&e but can go home in 30mins

Will miss my gym class :( and last chance of losing for tomorrows wi but glad dh is ok :)

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2011 18:14

pretty ((hugs)) so sorry for your and dh loss :(

Least fil is at peace now xxx

smokinaces · 10/02/2011 18:17

God, what a rollercoaster for you all this afternoon.

pretty so so sorry about your FIL. Thinking of you all x

trimmer well done you!!

blondes hope DH is home soon and the nosebleeds stop

I have a bad case of mothers guilt. DS2 (nearly 3) has decay in one of his molars according to the dentist. Am gutted, I am so particular about teeth - have been taking them to the dentist since they were born, and clean their teeth twice a day, got rid of bottles and dummies at a year. His 4 yo brother is fine, so can only put it down to having sweetened soya milk (switched to unsweetened a few weeks back), sweets instead of chocolate and lack of dairy when he's been growing up (lactose intollerance)

Still makes me feel bad though Sad

bebejones · 10/02/2011 18:40

Blondes - poor DH, hope you are back home soon & the nose bleeds stop

Trimmer - Congrats on job! Wine :)

Smokin - Don't feel bad, sounds like there were factors beyond your control. Sounds like you were doing all you could & were looking after your DSs health by giving him the soya & non dairy stuff. I am really trying hard to get DD to look after her teeth, unfortunately she likes chewing her toothbrush more than brushing with it! Hmm Our dentists won't see kids til they are 3, so hoping that everything will be ok when I take her. (She got her teeth quite quickly & has a had a full set for a while, including a couple of the big molars which came through before xmas)

Consultants was a big waste of time. So cross. Wasn't the doctor I thought I was seeing & was no point in seeing this one. I waited an hour & my bum barely had time to make the seat warm when I got in to see him! Just told him what he already knew from my notes & the one thing I wanted to talk to him about he completely dismissed as not being MS! (I am not convinced) 1/4 tank petrol & £5 to park...what a waste! Angry :(

smokinaces · 10/02/2011 18:57

Bebe, that sucks. Any chance you could complain through PALs and ask for a second opinion?

I cant believe your dentist wont see them until 3! Mine were happy to register them when they were born, and have seen them every 6 months since then. DS2 is going back in 3 months now to have it checked more. Weirdly, I dont want crisps and wine. Whenever I have felt bad like this in the past I've gone to the shop and bought wine/crisps (giant "share" bag)/chocolate/ice cream and had a big binge. Tonight I have gone and got changed into my gym gear ready for when DS1 finally shuts up and goes to sleep. Maybe I've cracked it!!

bebejones · 10/02/2011 19:31

Well I'm still waiting to see another consultant anyway (There are 4 of them) & if I have the problem again I'll go to my GP or ring the specialist nurse. Don't think it really warrants a complaint, not unless I'm proved right & he ignored something important!

Dentist claim there is no pint seeing them til then coz they won't sit still etc. (With DD that'd certainly be the case!)

Well done on resisting the lure of the junk food! I definitely need chocolate...but thankfully there is none in the house!

laughalot · 10/02/2011 20:06

Pretty so sorry hugs to you and the family.

Trimmer woop woop well done

Hi to everyone else

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/02/2011 20:11

It's been a sad, happy, worrying and frustrating day all round I think. And all the while I was having a very quiet, intense sort of day and didn't know everyone was having all this happening ( apart from with GT )

Wine This is for you GT as I said before, I am so delighted for you, you are amazing and should learn to have more confidence in yourself, you were all " I didn't get it, I did badly in the interview blah blah," when in fact you did very well indeed!! Be proud of yourself, you blew those suckers away!! Well done. When do you actually start?

Wine This is to salute Pretty's FIL, a sad day for your family, love to you x

Worrying times for you Mrs Blondes (and Mr Blondes) glad its sorted, but the thought of cauterisation up ones nose makes my eyes water!

Bebe - so was this a MS specialist regular appointment you had to go to?
How frustrating for you, and how boring!

Also surprised re the dentist, mine were seen younger too, they sort of acclimatised themselves on the chair, had a ride up and down, looked at all her stuff before actually having their teeth looked at, but I think they were under 2. They'd have 2 mins on the end of my appointment.

Smokin - don't feel bad, some children have stronger teeth, it may just be one of those things, and this baby molar will drop out and be replaced by a beautifully whole one!

Smalline - I certainly do that sometimes, when we all have the opportunity to eat together, but we often eat in shifts, like tonight DS had supper at 4.30 because he had something on this evening, DD didn't get home from a school netball match until 7pm so had hers then, DH isn't home yet, just called from London City so he will inevitably eat at 10! All a bit complex, but often like this sadly.

Well it's weigh in day tomorrow, I anticipate another STS
< sighs >

prettybird · 10/02/2011 20:59

Just been to Ikea for meatballs and chips (I only had the child size one!)

Dh is now consoling himself with a Wine, finishing an open bottle. I'm being good (polishes halo worried about the weigh-in tomorrow ) - so if he wants more, he'll have to go onto the port or whisky.

Ds is quite upset - it is the first of his close relatives to die, but as we have said to him, he was lucky to have all four grandparents for as long as he did (espcially with dh and I being older parents - but we didn't say that bit). I never knew my dad's father (died before Mum & Dad got married) and dh's grandmothers died before he was 2 and one of his grandfathers died before he was born, so he only ever knew one grandparent.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 11/02/2011 03:31

Morning 'yawns'

Yes it is 3.30 am and I'm back up a&e with dh :(

Was here for 6hrs earlier and he got cauterised and sent home

Bit he started to bleed again several times and then just after midnight he wasn't stopping and was a steady stream of blood pouring from his nose :(

So back here - has been cauterised again and now have to wait to see if bleeds again

I shall do a proper reply later to all :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/02/2011 06:21

Blimey Mrs B you and DH are having a bad time. Don't Let him do what my friend did when we were at school. She had a runny nose with a cold and had a really good idea. She put a tampon up each, one of those Lillets. They were the tiny ones cos we were only about 12. It was for a laugh Any way, they expanded and she had to get the school nurse to get one out! Blush but ever so Grin there was talk of surgical removal !!!

Don't let him try that Mrs B. Confused

STS. No surprise. I am 5ft 8 and if I am 11stone 10 pounds or less, I am in the healthy weight category according to the BBC but only just. I think my BMI is 24.something.

Good luck Slinks. X

bebejones · 11/02/2011 07:45

Angry :( STS! Apart from the Fish & Chips I was really good! Going to sulk now!

My BMI is 24.8 at the moment, I'd like it to be less!

Blondes - Hope Mr B is ok?

smokinaces · 11/02/2011 10:15

Blondes, hope DH is ok? any update?

well done both Piste and Bebe on STS - and having BMIs under 25. Just think back to how much beter you are now than a year or so ago and how far you've come. I'm sure once the spring/summer hits a few more pounds will come off easily - I'm convinced our bodies hold onto it in winter months.

GettinTrimmer · 11/02/2011 10:39

bebe sorry to hear of the big waste of time with consultant. Hope the next one is better, it pays to get a 2nd opinion. Well done also on sts.

smokin As Bebe says you did all you could re teeth (you are more vigilant than I am!), now you've switched to unsweetened soya milk that could make a difference, you've done brilliantly - we all blame ourselves. I know that I had fillings galore as a child, but as an adult, I haven't needed a filling for 27 years! It was sherbit (sp?) fountains etc that did it, never eat sweets now apart from chocolate.

pretty so sorry to hear your sad news Sad we lost fil last year, a relief he didn't suffer.

laughalot are you feeling a bit better now? I know you didn't feel too good a little while back. Are you wi today?

Piste I did wonder the other day about your BMI etc, more weight will probably go but it will be a slow process now you are at a healthy weight already. Well done on sts, it's just too easy to gain it back.

blondes Sorry to hear of dh with nose problem again glad you are back home x

How is he now?

I am waiting until Monday to wi, as on Friday/Saturday/Sunday I eat too much, I would sts if I weighed in now. we are having a take away this evening, so I will be restrained knowing wi is looming, if I wi today I would stuff myself.

prettybird · 11/02/2011 11:02

Blondes: hope your dh has stayed bleed free :)

I am pleased to announce that I sts :):) That is actually a tremendous achievement if you knew what weight I got to last week Blush

Dh is off to register the death :( There have been a few tears, which is good - and there is also a sense of relief that his dad is no longer suffering. He went peacefully because he had been put onto a morphine pump and then lpased into unconsciousness. Ds said he went to sleep quite quickly becasue he was crying but he has got a friend over this morning (Inset day, before the long weekend: we don't get a full week for half term in Scotland :() and I am just about to take them to the Science Centre.
