2011 Paul Mckenna

Deafworm · 01/01/2011 11:16

Hi all

I wondered if anyone else was planning to follow Paul mckenna this year and lose their weight?

im currently 16st13 and intend to end the year a fit toned 10st. im a bit hit and miss with following the golden rules but when i do i have seen results so from today i will follow it and get the results i want.

as well as the weight loss with paul mckenna i intend to

Beardo the just dance 2 fitness thing every day till my husband (RAF) flies out to the middle east around april

Bear do the couch to 5k plan and run race for life this year

Bearstart the 30 day shred when dh goes away and repeat it till he comes home (approx 4 months)

I also have one of those magic leg trainers coming on home approval so will have a play with that and see if its worth keping, apart from that i will reassess my fitness in august when he gets home and come to some decisions on how to go forward with that then but for now these seem like reasonable goals, especially when they're on top of really following the golden rules.

so anyone else following 'the rules' this year and going to join me with their aims?

the book for anyone curious about it, though i got mine from my local works type bookshop for less than £5 thats less than one weeks ww/sw/etc subs to try it out and its honestly the most sensible weightloss plan ive ever looked at

Sorry ktwiltshire, I had an early night last night so didn't see your question about mvm.com. Did you all enjoy using it? Did you have a go at trying on different virtual outfits - great fun virtually shopping with size 8/10 clothes! Grin

Yes, Solo I've tried out different weights too and it's quite scary how I'd look a few stone heavier.

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome, I don't think you always have to leave some food on your plate (I don't always) if you are not full when you have finished your meal. Does anyone else know the answer to this?

I've not had such a good day. Came home from work really hungry and ate far too many snacks. Blush

Anyway, some good news - I've booked a summer holiday. The scary news - I've got 17.5 weeks to lose at least 2 stone, preferably 3. Is that do-able?

tessieb · 18/01/2011 17:30

ppeatfruit only just spotted your answer to alwaysbeopral's question. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong as I do tend to finish the food that's on my plate. I am definately having smaller portions though.

Curiousmama · 18/01/2011 18:04

Hi all, well we're having a chinese tonight but I'll be careful. Not sure what to order yet but it won't be sweet and sour. Maybe chicken and tomato as I like that. I always have boiled rice anyway.

tessieb am sure that amount of weight loss is possible especially if you do lots of cardio? I just got a months half price family swim through change4life. They have fitness deals on too. Here's the website moreactiveforlife
We'll be going this week or next. In the meantime I'm going to get myself to the gym and on the treadmill and rower again. I do enjoy it tbh.

Curiousmama · 18/01/2011 18:04

Oh and if you need the code for ^ it's splash splash Smile

ktwiltshire · 18/01/2011 19:58

sounds like everyone is doing really well.

today has been a good day, depending on how you view it! i am listening to my hunger, only trouble is im not hungry...at all lol.

tomorrow is a day at home with the kids!!

tessieb · 18/01/2011 20:04

Thanks for that Curiousmama I'll have a look. You certainly sound very active!

I love going swimming, my DS loves going swimming BUT I haven't been for ages because at the moment I feel too self-conscious. Silly isn't it?! Does anyone else feel like this?

VJay · 18/01/2011 20:46

Hi I've been doing this for 2 weeks now and lost 4lbs which I am very pleased about. I have about 2 stone to lose overall. The thing is I've been really naughty the last 2 days and gone back to bad habits, so I'm on here looking for motivation Smile

Curiousmama · 18/01/2011 23:12

Oh I'm not active at all, am going to be though. I joined the gym late last year and need to make use of it. Luckily it's payg Smile I do enjoy it when I get there though. Yoga doesn't burn cals and I just started it. Haven't swam for ages but will do now the local pool is back open. It's a matter of motivating myself. And yes, I'll be in the pool asap to hide my tum! Wink

Curiousmama · 18/01/2011 23:13

Meant yoga won't burn many cals (I doubt?) but is good for toning and wellbeing. You feel so relaxed. I suppose I could play PM cd once I know the moves off by heart and don't need the dvd?

itsonly The great thing about P.M. is you can go on restarting it's about re educating yr attitude to food Smile have you googled P.M. I Can Make You Thin?

ktwiltshire · 19/01/2011 09:28

Ok so its my day at home today, which is usually where i fail eating wise as i have so much time on my hands compared to being at work.

ive eaten a piece of chocolate brioche this morning, one of those just there and now im annoyed with myself, great way to start the day!!

i personally cant do exercise as i have a terrible back and bad hip problems, with added sciatica just for fun (bulging disc) so im physically cant exercise!! i tried to do some pilates the other day and i can do some movements on my right side, but my left side is hugely restricted movement wise (i.e. little).

must listen to the CD today!

Curiousmama · 19/01/2011 13:15

ktwiltshire can you swim? So sorry to hear of your problems.

I didn't do brilliantly last night. We had family night, watching movie and got chinese. I did get chicken with fresh tomatoes and boiled rice so that was good. But I nibbled at everyone elses. Oh and 2 pancake rolls for starter Blush We didn't know you got 2 with every portion. I over-ate.

But today is another day Smile

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 19/01/2011 13:17

Thanks for the replies ladies.

I realised last night just how much I overeat. I made roast chicken with mash and veg (yum) but because my bloody oven is playing up the chicken wasn't properly cooked through so had to go back in. I had already served the mash and veg and given it to the kids (I often hold the meat back as they are little carnivores and will gorge themselves and complain that they have no room left for the veg) so stood in the kitchen eating mine whilst I was waiting. I ate slowly and consciously and after 4 or 5 mouthfuls, suddenly realised if I had much more, I would have no room for chicken (oh the horror!!), but there was still loads left on the plate. I left it and had a small portion of chicken and was satisfied.

I had out LOADS on the plate as it's my favourite but honestly, I'm sure I didn't even eat half of what I normally could. No bloody wonder I'm the size I am.

Ended up having snacks when DH came in (not so good as I wasn't really hungry). I think I really need to work on distinguishing hunger from tiredness next.

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 19/01/2011 13:18

Don't know where that stray 'out' came from. Bizarre.

Deafworm · 19/01/2011 13:23

but thats the thing kt, pm points out that unless you actually dont ever do anything you are exercising, getting out of bed, walking round the house etc is all exercise and if you can only manage to do some then its still better than nothing.

its been a hectic few days here, finally back on my feet properly, 3 miles today as dd2 didn't go to nursery so no middle pick up. aiming to do some just dance tonight and get back on the leg trainer, added to the walking its got to help, may well join some of you in yoga too, i really enjoy it. had a couple of bad meals this week but mostly ive done pretty well i think, my tummy seems so much smaller, and some of my trousers are starting to get loose. cant help wondering if its all in my mind though!

kt dont beat yourself up just start again from now.

Hiya girls,

I weighed in yesterday and I've lost 6lbs in two weeks.

I've been re thinking things. I said I wanted to lose 5 stone. That would take me to 9 stone, but tbqh that is a daunting thought. So I've decided to aim for the higher end of my bmi which is 10 6, then I won't be overweight anymore, but I'm kind of know that will take a good few months. Hopefully by the time I've got to that stage, the habits will be ingrained and it won't be hard to stick to and carry on naturally. The Paul McKenna eating is not difficult really, is it? It doesn't feel like deprivation at all, so I assume that at some point you'll get to your own body's natural weight and plateau.

Kt, don't beat yourself up about the brioches. Paul mc says you should eat what you want when you want it. I suppose if it was just there and you didn't think about it, that's not great, but don't be tempted to compensate by only eating low cal things for the rest of the day. If you want to keep your metabolism up, you need to let your body know you will feed it well ;) I've come over all Paul mc here! Am I right in thinking you have had an eating disorder in the past? I only ask as I had a mild one when I was a teenager (so almost 20 years ago now) and it think the feeli g guilty about eating can be the hardest thing to shake.

Also, have you read much about intutive eating? Pm talks about it a bit in his book and it's what the system is based on. Basically, given access to any food whenever you want it, people will eat a balanced diet if they don't spend too much time focusing on what hey've eaten. There is a lot out there about it if you want to google.

I do think this is where It all went wrong for me. I was naturally slim 8 stone 4lbs, but wanted to be skinny and ended up weighing about 6stone 7 - I now weigh more than twice that. When I was 8 stone 4lbs, I never ever ever thought about food. I ate whenever I wanted and it was only when I tried to lose it that I got obsessed with what I was going to eat next and thought about food all the time. So I am desperately trying to hold onto that side of paul's system because I have absolute faith that it's true that you have to listen to your body!

Meanwhile, I'm slacking a bit on the exercise front. I'm doing 4 miles round trip to and from nursery and lazy 4 year old often gets in the pushchair for some of that. I've been listening to the cd and on the whole I think I've stuck to the eating side of things. But I can't seem to get off my arse and leaping around exercise even when I have time! BUT I have signed up for the ediburgh moonwalk (london was full) so I'm hoping that training for that will also help.

Great to read everyone's updates. Btw, I can't seem to get back to that point in my message, but further up when I said I'd changed my goal, I think I will continue with the 5 stone ultimate goal, but 3.5 as interim and see what I look like and how I feel at that stage.

On phone so apols for auto correct etc.

solo · 19/01/2011 15:36

Just popping in briefly...had weigh in today and......1 stone down!!! Grin dog with two tails or what?!

See you all later...

ppeatfruit · 19/01/2011 15:59

IMOlilo 4 miles a day is plenty! try not to over do it! Good idea to go for a doable goal.solo Congrats!!

ktwiltshire · 19/01/2011 16:15

thanks for all the advice girls. I know that im not doing nothing as such, but its a far cry from what i used to do, i used to have a cross trainer at home and i would go on it for an hour or two a few times a week, now my leg cries out in pain walking up the stairs!
and no, cant really go swimming...well cant bear to go swimming is probably more accurate, too embarssed.

Yeah I was bulimix from around the age of 8, then went into anorexia when my mother took me to a slimming club and i learnt calories (i hate calories), that was when i was 12/13 and after a couple of years (even winning slimmer of the year....really who lets a 12 year old into a slimming club) when people started suspecting there was a problem i somehow reverted to bulimia and have been ever since, i have OK phases and BAD phases, im somewhere in between still, but my therapy team wont give me CBT (the advised therapy for bulimia) until i can make changes without trying to compensate in other ways. not quite sure how i can get to that stage without any help, but either way i have been dumped by my treatment team.
So here I am out of my own, and giving this a shot. no idea if it will work, as PM himself said, its not desinged for someone with an eating disorder, but i figure its worth a try!!

todays continued to be a bad day, but wenesdays always seem to be because im at home. maybe i should just ignore wednesdays and let them be whatever they are?

and well done lililo for the 6lb loss, thats brilliant.
im still weighing too often, but i am trying to only concentrate on the difference of my weekly weights, which will be tomorrow.

sorry for the ramble girls!!!!!
havent really got anything in the house for dinner, so not sure what i will do, hopefully not snack, but will see what happens and DH is out working tonight.

Curiousmama · 19/01/2011 17:03

Have you got any egss in ktw? Protein makes you feel full longer as does soup. Can you whizz up some soup in a pan? I had an omelette around 2.30pm made with pepper spring onions and cheese and am still full up. I didn't have any bread with it.

solo · 19/01/2011 17:38

Kt, you should not feel embarrassed to go swimming; there are plenty of people that are very over weight that do go and most people don't bat an eyelid ~ after all, you are doing something about the extra weight you have gained. Maybe go to a ladies only swim night.
I used to go to a gym. I was very slim and just enjoyed going and exercising. There were two Asian ladies there, both very over weight, even though they had apparently both lost loads already. They wore very loose, baggy Indian dresses with the matching trousers underneath, so were very obvious in their appearance. Nobody, but nobody looked, stared or made rude comments about them; quite the contrary I think as everyone admired their determination. I certainly did.

I went to an exercise class today at a Sure Start Centre. It was stretching, toning etc, not aerobics as I can't really exercise in the extreme due to having ME, but although I ache badly this evening, I'm definitely going to go every week. I want to try to get fitter as well as toned.
I was the oldest and the fattest one there, but I'm determined that that is not going to be the same in 6 months time (well, I might still be the oldest Grin).

Curiousmama · 19/01/2011 17:52

Good for you solo Smile I have a few friends with ME most have fibro too do you?

Agree that KT shouldn't be embarrassed. No one takes any notice they're all to busy thinking about themselves Smile The aquafit classes are good and usually just women.

Curiousmama · 19/01/2011 17:54

And meant eggs btw not egss Grin Aunt Flow is due and I always lose concentration/am clumsy etc... around this time. I've been spelling badly on facebook last couple of days. If anyone's on FB and wants to add me just inbox me btw Smile
