Hi all

I wondered if anyone else was planning to follow Paul mckenna this year and lose their weight?

im currently 16st13 and intend to end the year a fit toned 10st. im a bit hit and miss with following the golden rules but when i do i have seen results so from today i will follow it and get the results i want.

as well as the weight loss with paul mckenna i intend to

Beardo the just dance 2 fitness thing every day till my husband (RAF) flies out to the middle east around april

Bear do the couch to 5k plan and run race for life this year

Bearstart the 30 day shred when dh goes away and repeat it till he comes home (approx 4 months)

I also have one of those magic leg trainers coming on home approval so will have a play with that and see if its worth keping, apart from that i will reassess my fitness in august when he gets home and come to some decisions on how to go forward with that then but for now these seem like reasonable goals, especially when they're on top of really following the golden rules.

so anyone else following 'the rules' this year and going to join me with their aims?

the book for anyone curious about it, though i got mine from my local works type bookshop for less than £5 thats less than one weeks ww/sw/etc subs to try it out and its honestly the most sensible weightloss plan ive ever looked at

Hello ladies, I'd like to join again. I tried Paul McKenna last summer, lost a pound or two but then got distracted and stopped doing it before it had really become habit. I want the rules to become second nature this time.

In principle I really like those rules, but I still struggle with cleaning my plate - it just seems wrong to throw food away. I think I need to stock up on more tupperware so that I can save the scraps, and that will make me feel less guilty (even if I throw them away in a week's time!)

ppeatfruit · 05/01/2011 13:44

i find it's best to put the leftovers in the fridge and eat when you feel hungry again (which happens quicker on the P.M.)!

thanks lastyearsmodel i will look into them later in the year when im more settled into things, ive a good idea where my overeating comes from but still curious!

hows your day going HowToLookGoodGlaikit? well i hope, im on day 5 now and seriously starting to settle in, much less bothered by snacking, evening meals seem to be my downfall, roast chicken tonight so fingers crossed i can behave!

welcome nicknametaken i could have written the first paragraph there, im in exactly the same position, really throwing myself into it this time and not allowing excuses, as for leftovers i put my plate in the fridge, then if i cant eat it by the evening i bin or box it, also i dish up the same portions for me as my under 5's and if i want more i dish another portion the same again etc etc that way more goes from the pan to the freezer without passing my plate and ending up in the bin.

thats the basis of it bratnav theres a lot of info in the book about how and why it works and help to deal with things like emotional eating and self sabotage but the basic premis is to eat slowly and really enjoy what you are eating which should help you eat less and therefore lose weight Grin

yesterday didnt go so brilliantly, we got a halogen oven and it arrived yesterday so couldnt resist testing it out on various bits yesterday, the upshot being i massively overate and havent been very hungry at all today so lots of little bits of food today, we are making a roast dinner in it today, 40 minutes cooking time for a chicken with roast potatoes and veggies! then i will put the fruit pie i made into it for half an hour for pudding, hope its as good as it says it is! im not keen on cooking so hoping it will motivate me a bit more to cook the things we fancy rather than settling for simple foods

I found that after a week, I could tell what portion size would be right (and it was way smaller than I would ever have thought!). If I made too much, I would eat the rest for lunch next day (or whenever I felt hungry enough to eat it). Saves you a lot of money too! I remember last ti,e I did it, 1 takeaway Chinese meal lasted me 3 meals Grin

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 05/01/2011 19:13

deafworm I love cooking! What I love most about this eating plan is that I can still make teh indulgant tasty meals I love to cook, but enjoy them more and lose weight.

Deafworm · 05/01/2011 19:19

you are welcome here anytime Grin i can cook i just really dont enjoy it. chicken took about an hour in the end but in a normal oven would have been around 2 so quite pleased and the potatoes and veg came out amazing, this sort of cooking i could enjoy!

ppeatfruit · 06/01/2011 10:25

One of the best things about P.M. is you could eat yr sweet pie for a meal'cos you COULDN'T at it after the chicken!

Deafworm · 06/01/2011 10:55

ah but that would have been wrong pp as i really wanted the chicken, and the veg, far more than the pie, i had a little bit of that after and it was just right

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 06/01/2011 13:41

yes of course deafworm OR you have the chicken and veg for ONE meal and the pie for another, I find it makes yr stomach shrink fast.

tessieb · 06/01/2011 13:51

I've just started this on Monday and I'm aiming to lose 3 stone. I've never been as heavy as this before! Since Monday I've listened to the CD every evening and read the book.

I've found that I'm now having smaller portions, then having more if I still feel hungry, though I'm finding smaller portions do fill me up now I'm eating slowly. I met a friend for lunch today and left over half a pannini as I was full. Before PMK I'd have eaten the lot!

In the book PMK advises that you don't weigh yourself at all for 2 weeks. Is everyone else avoiding the scales? I'll find that difficult as I always want to know if I've lost anything straight away!

tessieb · 06/01/2011 14:10

I just googled PMK and found his website. There are some short video clips of people who have lost massive amounts of weight using this system. Thought it may motivate us all to keep going!

Deafworm · 06/01/2011 14:12

very quickly, my portions are significantly smaller already and im on day 6 so just need to keep going on with it!

hi tessie well done on a great start, im only weighing in on the days he sets out in the diary for now, i found last time i started this that leaving it for a fortnight gave a pretty dramatic weight change which was very encouraging so im definitely sticking to it,also ive measured myself and will check those on the weigh in days too

I tried the Paul Mckenna this time last year and its absolutely brilliant. Its really easy to get into, simple to follow and its based on the following guidlines:

Eat what you want
Eat when you want
Savour every mouthful
Stop eating when you're full.

I must admit was a little apprehensive having previously tried and failed with the usual weight watchers and Rosemary Connelly diets.

Anyway, I stuck at it religiously for 12 weeks and although i gained almost 2 stone stone I have to say its the best diet I've ever done. Go for it!!

sparklyjewlz · 06/01/2011 14:35

"I stuck at it religiously for 12 weeks and although i gained almost 2 stone" Confused.
I hope this is a typo IlovePeterAndre

muriel76 · 06/01/2011 14:39

I'll join too if I may? Smile

I did the diet a couple of years ago and lost over 2 stone so so easily.

Stupid me, I stopped following it and have put most of it back on - surprise! So cross with myself about that.

Anyway I started again on NYD and have lost 4lbs so far. Really do want to keep it going this time....

BTW I never listened to the CD, just followed then 4 rules, it can work just to do that although of course everyone finds the best way for them.

Deafworm · 06/01/2011 16:07

welcome muriel ooh you are a bad influence on me,i started on nyd too and having to resist weighing so much, determined to make it to day 15 but want to see if the changes i think i can feel are real

IlovePeterAndre welcome, did you gain 2 stone?

Oh ladies I've missed so much!

I must add an additional rule to Paul's 4 - once you've STOPPED eating, pop on to MN and do a post! Grin

So, my book arrived this afternoon and I've watched the DVD to give me a kick start.

But I have a couple of questions that you experienced individuals might be able to help with...

When he says, Eat when you're hungry, does he really mean ANYTHING? I'm often hungry mid-morning and would normally reach for a packet of crisps. If I'm following all his meals (and thus probably eating less at 'official' meal times) can I still have a packet of crisps in between meals if I'm hungry? Or maybe even a chocolate biscuit?

Also, when I start doing this, will it become easy to know when I'm full? Because I do sometimes worry that I won't know the signs. I tried it (just from info I read online), the other evening and felt like I might by full but still had the hunger-type pain aswell? I guess that's where you take his advice and stop and then if you are still hungry, have something else.

I've started walking the dogs again (a 30 minute walk, not too fast but up and down steep hills - knackering!) and am doing 30 mins on Just Dance 2 for the Wii aswell. Will start Paul McKenna in earnest on Monday!

So it sounds like there are a lot of us joining this thread - brilliant! Lots of motivation to be had!

Deafworm, your oven sounds great! I've got the diary in the back of my book aswell so may well do my weigh-ins then, although for me, I want to drop two dress sizes as opposed to an amount of weight. I am a 14-16 currently and my friend who weighs more than me is only a 10 (and we're the same height), so I'm going to just go with how I feel I think.

Anyway, good luck ladies and I will come back on later!

Deafworm · 06/01/2011 16:51

oops maybe sorry, im posting in here quite frequently in an attempt to keep myself on track! determined to get there and stay on track this time.

yes he does mean eat, but only if you are genuinely hungry and its something you genuinely want, and obviously not if its a craving. choc biscuits, crisps, anything as long as its genuinely what you want to eat.

slow your eating right down and it becomes easier to notice the signs of being full, but yes if you think you might be, put your food to one sign and come back to it later if you realise you werent, do you drink much? being thirsty can mascarade as hunger so sometimes you are full of food but need a drink. it does get easier to tell though and quite quickly

i would go on how you feel too, if it wasnt for planning dc4 i would be doing exactly that

muriel76 · 06/01/2011 17:15

I know deafworm - I can't help it!

Last time, espec in the early days, I was shedding 1lb every day/every other day, it literally fell off and it was just so motivating to see that on the scales too.

But it is a bad habit cos when the scales don't have good news it can put you right off!!

MaybeTomorrow · 06/01/2011 18:18

Hello again!

Thank you deafworm! I do have one other question though...

If you are having a mid-afternoon/mid-morning snack, do you still just have the one snack that you would normally have? Surely you don't use the rules and eat until you're full in that case do you, if it's between meals?

Just want to make sure I understand it all before I start... Blush

We've got loads of party(type) food in the freezer that I want to use up this weekend so that I don't have that temptation there, because that's definitely not something I want to be having to eat just because I don't want to waste it once I start on Monday!

tessieb · 06/01/2011 18:37

Hi Maybetomorrow - if you're hungry and want something then eat and when you are full stop. You have whatever you want as long as you are genuinely hungry, though you need to eat slowly and appreciate what you are having - no more shovelling down a pile of food in front of the TV!!! Why don't you start now instead of waiting till Monday?

Another effect of listening to the PMK CD every night, this afternoon I really really fancied a walk, so had a good half hour's walk before the school run. It's very unusual for me to fancy exercising!

Deafworm · 06/01/2011 18:51

absolutely you do maybe you only have the snack if you are hungry and then you only eat till you are full,

today for example i had a banana for breakfast and wasnt very hungry but by mid morning (after a mile and a half round trip on the school run, back to that 3 times a day now Hmm) i wanted a little more so i had some olives, after 4 or 5 i was full again so i stopped eating. didnt have a snack of any sort this afternoon as i wasnt hungry. does that make it any clearer?

starting now and practicing on the party food (presumably food you would usually overeat on?) may be a good plan, if you can manage to slow down and eat conciously with foods you would usually overeat on that has to be a big boost to start with? i still have lots of snacky christmas foods in the cupboard and theyre just not appealing right now but today is a trigger day for me, dh is on days and wont be home till 9 and its these days where i can usually be found comfort eating a bag of crisps etc and still no particular interest in them which is really motivating.

whatever you decide good luck, and get listening to that cd Grin

OP posts:
MaybeTomorrow · 06/01/2011 19:39

Thanks so much ladies - that is now much clearer! I guess It's learning to change my usual routine of having
3 meals a day. I normally find myself starving myself in between meals so when it is lunchtime I'm starving and eat too much too quickly. So it definitely makes more sense.

Thank you!

Lastyearsmodel · 06/01/2011 19:58

Just dropping by to say hi - I am thinking about you all every day and it feels very supportive Smile.

Still not done the CD to mp3 thing - every time I remember to do it, I remember the CD is in our room where DD2 is napping.

Am endeavouring to follow the rules but it's so hard to concentrate on anything with small children around. Every time I fall off the wagon, though, I'm getting right back on and not beating myself up about it.

Late afternoons are a killer for me - after-school-run munchies, get-me-away-from-these-fighting-children biscuit binges, putting-off-bedtime snacks...

Did you see in the round-up there's a webchat next week with PMcK?
