Weightwatchers ProPoints Plan

1000 replies

squashedfrogs · 08/11/2010 22:14

I've been following WW online for a few years on and off and today my account has changed to the new ProPoints plan. I haven't yet looked into this properly but was wondering if anyone else knew much about it?

I know there is another thread where someone (sorry can't remember who) was testing the new plan, has it been easy to follow & does it work?

OP posts:
androbbob · 28/12/2010 21:39

Right I have completed the first tracker and we lost a total of 137lb upto Christmas! That is 9 Stone 11 pounds - which is the weight of an average slim woman! Wow that is fantastic!!

I have reset the counters for the NormaSknockers New Year Challenge!! There are two challenges - first to lose 7lbs and first to lose a stone! I take it its fair to say that the same person cant win both challenges then! Off we go then!!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 29/12/2010 07:31

MadameG well done on losing so soon after having a baby. DS is 7 and I have only just lost my pregnancy weight for him. Now need to lose weight I put on with DD who is about to be 12, then the weight I should have lost before I got pregnant.

Safe to say it is going to take me some time! Norma the challenge is a great idea, do you mind if I join? Another stone gets me to half way there which will be great. My DH is very supportive too thank goodness and endlessly patient. He looked so shocked when he realised he had to lose weight, was a totally new concept to him! Didn't take him long though.

VNMum we had Kinect for Christmas. The boxing game found muscles I didn't know I had ! Like the dance one, we've all had a lot of fun with that one.

Lucky well done on the swimming. I decided I would go again recently and have been all of once in 2010, will try harder next year.

Littlefish , that is one of the things I really like about WW, takeaways do still fit in which makes it so much easier to keep on track.

Androbbob I know you are resetting the spreadsheet but if you want to add to to this year's total I have lost 33lbs and am hoping for another at WI tomorrow.

androbbob · 29/12/2010 08:16

Wynken - added you to my sheet - your weightloss to date is fabulous - how many dres sizes have you dropped and can people see a difference? I reckon I have around 35 lbs to lose to get to a reasonable weight (it will be above my top end healthy weight according to WW but I will never see 9 stone 11 lbs!). To get to around 10 and a half stone will do me - havent seen that weight for over 10 years!! I have a box of summer clothes under my bed in sizes 14 to 12 and I would love to be wearing at least some of them this year and not have to feel like I have to wear loose tops to hide the belly! Grin

Welcome also to MadameG and QueenandKing Mum - this is a really friendly and helpfully supportive thread - all we ask is that you contribute and add to the general chatting about our days however good or bad they have been Grin

Back to the gym shortly - not been for two weeks due to snow / childcare and general Christmas getting in the way! DD who is 8 is not well at the moment - high temp, sore throat and generally looks unwell so need to stock up on Calpol and Ibroprofen. We have this great scheme at a lcoal chemist where you can get this on prescription for the kids without having to see the doctor - saves wasting the doctors time and saves having to pay for the drugs! Suits me!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 29/12/2010 08:46

Androbbob sorry to hear about DD, hope she is on the mend really soon. Brilliant thing your pharmacy do, wish ours would.

Thank you for adding me to the spreadsheet. 33lbs is a third of what I am going to lose so still have a long way to go but it does feel good to start 2011 with a third under my belt so to speak. I started at size 22 bottoms and now fit most 18s. My top is bigger and was 22/24 and now is a 20 though I have an 18 coat someone gave me and another 18 top I can wear. People who know I am dieting say you can really tell I've lost and DD has recently been saying she thinks I have shrunk a lot, she does the hug test - arms around my waist and see how much of her arm she can clench behind me. My Dad and partner came down recently, hadn't seem them since July and didn't want them to know am dieting. They kept asking if I had lost, I casually said I might have dropped a pound or two , must be the allotment and dog walking. Am hoping the next two stone will make a big difference and would like to do this for the summer for when the summer clothes come out. My huge incentive to shift the lot is my brother is very kindly paying for us to go to Thailand next Christmas and I haven't seen him for 3 years. And I want my sodding gallbladder out, those two should be the other way around !

vnmum · 29/12/2010 16:05

wynken I know what you mean about the boxing game on the kinect. I was playing it with DH last night then did some of the dance game and this morning, my arms, legs and back across my shoulders are stiff. i'm sure the shoulders is from the boxing. I will soon see if all the kinecting is helping with the weight loss as i will be able to see if i'm losing more per week than i was last year.

Norma The kinect is so much better than the wii. I have actually traded my wii exercise games in ready to get ones for the kinect because with the kinect you have to do the full body movements for it to work so it takes more effort.

I ended up having a mcdonalds on monday night so that has taken me even more over my weekly points but i tracked properly yesterday and today and i reset tomorrow after i WI in the morning

Welcome queenandking Smile

NormaSknockers · 29/12/2010 16:31

Afternoon all, sorry hectic day!

So how are we all doing today? Feeling ready for a new year and a slimmer you?

Welcome to Queen, don't fret over the gain over Christmas, it happens and nothing you can do about the past. You're back on track and that's the main thing - well done for taking the first step :)

androbb that is fantastic, what a fab loss! Thank you for keeping track of all that and thank you for re-setting it - I shall get buying the prizes and have then right ready to go for our winners Grin How is DD now? Hope she's feeling better soon!

Of course you can take part in the challanage Wynken you're part of the thread!

The kinect sounds brilliant vnmum definately one to look into, I can see the Wii falling by the wayside because people are wanting the Kinect instead! Don't worry about the McDonalds, we can't be good all of the time, you're back to tracking and that's what counts Grin

Rupreckt · 29/12/2010 16:34

Am going to WW tonight again to get back on track.

I have gained so much weight in the last 4 weeks so need to get control again.

The way I look at weight loss though is that as I have lost 22 lbs I can afford to put a bit back on but if I hadn't lost it in the first place then I would have just got bigger and bigger!

I want to get down to 10st 7lb in 6months.

BigTillyMincepie · 29/12/2010 18:11

I daren't get back on the scales Blush

And we still have at least 4 days of entertaining / eating out to go,

muffinchops · 29/12/2010 20:00

Greetings all. Hope you all had a lovely Xmas and were suitably indulged (in a non calorific way) by your loved ones. Am sooooo impressed by the focus over Xmas.

After having been relatively good (including foregoing DH's Nigella turkey and ham pie at a whopping 20 pts per serving) have well and truly hurled myself off the wagon today with a big bump! I'm exhausted after Xmas and DH has been abducted by work again and dcs have been hyper today so sought solace in the chocs (grrrrr). Will have to refocus tomorrow and see how next WI goes on Tues. Feeling v down as I was so good over the actual Xmas period.

A big welcome aboard to the new joiners to this lovely thread. Great idea with the challenges Norma. I'm happy to put some stats up to keep me focused and hopefully get a bit of support. Blush Anybody else?

Here goes (ahem):

Started out at 12st 13.5lbs seven weeks ago.

At last formal weigh in (2 weeks ago) was 12st 3lbs.

In my dreamworld would like to get to 10st 7lbs.

Am 5ft 6.

I hit 39 on 3rd Jan Shock and want to hit the big 40 in 2012 looking fabulous!

androbbob · 29/12/2010 20:37

Thanks for all the well wishes for DD - she is now on the mend having peaked last night with temperatures of 102.2 and 101! The combo of Calpol and Ibruprofen did not seem to have any effect but she was still drinking. DH is a bit of a fusspot and wanted her to be seen by someone but I was not going out anywhere last night with her! Took her out to the beach today for a walk on the front (only 10 mins!) and sat in car and watched world go by, and as the day has gone on her temp has recovered back down to normal now! Packed her off to bed so I can MN catch up!

Had an ok day today - had a small pasty for lunch - I reckon it was about 11 points (used a similar one from Asda to work it out!) but to compensate I had a veg stir fru for tea which worked out at 2PP as it was only veg and a small amount of sauce. So all in all it was a 29 PP day. Went to the gym and that was hard but I enjoyed it. DH out at the footie so got a few hours of peace!

I am sure we will all get back to normal next week when all the fun / holidays is over and in my case the kids are back to school! Surfing for a summer / spring holiday at the moment and planning a hot choc soon!

Lucky2010 · 29/12/2010 20:44

HELP!!!! I am really struggling to get back on the wagon! Did great the last 2 days. Tracked everything. Today I returned to work, everyone was really miserable being back and we had lots of chocs leftover from Christmas, so I ended up eating lost Shock. I supposed to go spinning after work but a) my appraisal ran over time so I missed the start and b) started to feel rough with headache. Had dinner when I got home (chicken casserole) and then went to bed feeling rough. It's just my period, I always get headachey and feel rough the day before I come on. I slept for 2 hrs and feel a bit better now.
Half of me is saying to not worry too much til new year, and the other half is telling me to stick to it and track again tomorrow even though I prob ate most of my bonus pts today in choc!!! I always eat like a horse when I am on....should I relax until 1st Jan or should I be strict....help!!

androbbob · 29/12/2010 20:57

Lucky - first of all CALM DOWN - all is not lost! I personally think you should get back on track tomorrow and make sensible healthy choices and get back into the WW mindset. Go back and read your original booklets and get your mojo back! Remind yourself of how far you have come and how much better you feel now than you did when you started. What motivated you to join in the first place - has that changed? Probably not! Now have a slap with a wet kipper and get on with it! If you dont then when you next get to a WI you will have gained and just put yourself back a few weeks - just think forward to then and how cross you will be with yourself. You are so close to getting there, don't ruin it now. You know that those slim people who stay slim are those that unconsiously cut back after a few days of over eating and then maintain their weight. We will have to learn that skill when we get to maintenance phase, so get your head in gear now! PEP TALK OVER!!!

As you were!

muffinchops · 29/12/2010 21:36

Lucky - stick with it. Agree with androbob - you have come so far. Draw a line under today and start afresh tomorrow (which is what I'm having to do). Just carry on tracking from tomorrow- you will soon drop anything you have gained and just remember all those compliments and the feeling of all those gorgeous clothes you can now wear.

I am sitting here feeling sooooooo ill and lethargic from having mindless stuffed myself today and am thinking that it is so not worth it.

I too go on a carb/sugar craving mission around the time of the month. Need to find a way to get round it.

C'mon - stay strong then you'll be in an even better position/frame of mind come Jan 1st.

boodleboot · 29/12/2010 22:14

oh what the blimmin heck is wrong with me....first i oversleep this morning (how this is possible with a 3 month old is beyond me but my little darling likes a lay-in as much as me it would seem!!)Oversleeping meant i missed buggyfit. I have also not got back on track food wise and scales are now showing a 4lb gain....this is so stupid... It started because DH did the christmas shop last week and really overspent on tasty snacks and treats etc (cheese crackers mince pies christmas log blah blah blah) which has meant that really it all needed to be eaten before doing the next shop (this fri)....v v annoying really and i actually am screaming out for a nice veggie stirfry... MUST DO BETTER!!!!Confused

oh Lucky i totally hear you re the start now or new year condundrum....i am thinking that I am going to start pointing again from tomorr and am still hopeful that i can lost before my weigh in not this saturday next saturday....really tempting to wait til saturday but i wont do that if you dont....maybe it will help you make up your mind if you understand you are responsible not just for your own pointing but MINE TOO!!!! Wink

I am loving the sound of the competition Norma....its a win/win proposition really isn't it!!

boodleboot · 29/12/2010 22:16

hmmm having re read my post i think i must add that upon second thoughts it actually isn't really my DH's fault that i have overeaten for a week on christmas treats.....tis mine....my name is boodle and i am a crapfoodaholic.....Blush

androbbob · 29/12/2010 22:51

Which is why we had no treat food in our house Grin. There was no way I was buying a large tin of Roses or Quality Street, a load of cheese and crackers as we were not expecting loads of people round and were going to my Mums for the Big Day! So I spent nowt! The kids and DH got selection boxes and chocs / biscuits and I didnt (which is fine by me as I am diabetic and shouldnt really have loads of that stuff). We were slightly caught out on Boxing Day through when BIL and SIL came round with their son for an hour or so close to teatime and I was frantically mentally scanning the fridge / freezer and cupboards to see what I could put together if they wanted to stay for tea! Fortunately they didn't and I am hoping I didnt look too relieved! SIL had done Christmas Dinner at her house and still had a load of food left. We had eaten a big meal at lunch at my Mums and didnt want anything too big, so was all ok!

hmc · 29/12/2010 23:16

Sorry - too piddled to catch up on all the posts (have skimmed), suffice to say I love you all (hic)

Lucky - wagon - what bloody wagon ?!? - mine has decamped me and left me in a different continent. Christmas chocs all gone - thank the lord, but I have managed to eat 6 digestives with camembert and stilton tonight (after a proper dinner), drink 2 large ports and imbibe two 330ml bottles of London Pride (oopsie!)

I am hoping that attending my next meeting next Wednesday might help me re-focus if I don't manage it before then (and my will power was marvellous before all this Christmas malarky)

Small mercies - my chest infection is better and I am back in the gym - hurrah!

hmc · 29/12/2010 23:18

androbob - glad your dd is better, it is so worrying when they are ill!

Lucky2010 · 30/12/2010 08:50

Thanks so much guys, you really have helped. I will track again as of today....promise. All your supportive pep talks did help. I have woken up with what feels like bloody tonsilitis AGAIN!!! So pissed off, it's the 3rd time in as many weeks.

Back on it ......Grin.

Loving this thread!!

hmc · 30/12/2010 09:59

Forgot to say Lucky - I haven't posted for a week and a half and so haven't yet congratulated you on beating your colleague in the weigh off 'face-off'; well done and keep that victory in mind when you are following the plan today.

I am determined...(ish) today - absolutely no cheese and no alcohol!

MadameG · 30/12/2010 10:11

Wynken- well done on your amazing weight loss- you may feel you still have a way to go but you've already achieved so much!

Lucky- don't worry, you will stay on track, we all have wobblies!

Boodle- don't you worry either, we all have blips. Smile

I had family round yesterday but managed to stay within my 29 propoints daily allowance. I did cold chicken sandwiches for lunch with salad and roast beef for dinner. I skipped on the yorkshire puddings and parsnips and just enjoyed the beef, veg and potatoes, which aren't too bad points-wise.

I'm a bit pee'd off today cos my weight loss is going well but I still have a jiggly baby belly. I know it'll take time to go but I can't really exercise it off at the mo cos I have a bad back with nerve damage from the birth of ds (don't ask- v traumatic emergency delivery!). So I'm imagining I'm going to be slim eventually but with a big flap of skin hanging round my stomach. Nice! Hmm I'm finding it hard to find flattering clothes at the moment. Most of my pre-pregnancy clothes cling to it too much.

NormaSknockers · 30/12/2010 10:18

Good morning all,

I'm just dashing on really quickly as it's hectic here but I will be back on later to chat properly.

Lucky I agree with what androbb has said. Firstly do not beat yourself up over it. It happens, don't panic, look at how far you have come, one small blip isn't going to make all that much of a difference. Guilt and feeling angry with yourself isn't going to change anything, get back on track today and stick with it from now on. Forget what's happened in the past few days as you cannot change it and tbh at this time of year it is so hard to stay on track, you're not alone remember that! Get back on track now, focus on going back to weigh in and forget what has gone. Forget your weekly points and just use your daily ones from now on 'til your new week starts then start using the weekly points again. It will be ok, i's so hard when you have your period too, I'm the same, I inhale anything that isn't nailed down so you're truly are not alone!

I'm going to start another thread too as we're only about 2 posts away from finishing this one - new thread here Grin

NormaSknockers · 30/12/2010 10:22

MadameG I have/had the same issues. DS was an EMCS and it left me with the most awful belly, all over hanging and big/saggy (sorry, TMI) as the weight has come off it has made a difference. It's not perfect by any means, nor will it ever be and the over hang is still there but as the weight has come off (just over 3 stone so far) it honestly has made a difference. DS is 2.4 now and it's taken me a long time to come to terms with the change in my body since his birth, it's only in the last few months I've been able to actually look at myself in a mirror! I too found it hard to find clothes that fitted and were flattering but it's much easier now that my belly is smaller. It's still a jelly, belly but definately much improved.

teaandcrumpets · 23/01/2011 15:42

I've just joined mumsnet to join in this discussion! I have just re-started WW online, and am finding the new points hard to adjust to. Before, you could look at the label on food in the supermarket and pretty much at a glance decide what was "safe" to eat. Now the calculation seems lot more mysterious, kinda like Slimming World was when I did it many years ago. The old plan had flexibility in its favour. Now I find I'm constantly taking out my iPhone to calculate the points as I'm shopping - I feel really conspicuous.

On the other hand, I've lost 6 lbs in my first two weeks, so I guess it's working. And the free fruit and low points for protein suit me - I'm not really a carb fiend. I have been snacking on cold chicken and pastrami, and eating loads more fruit than before. I also got some game birds (partridge and pheasant) from the farm shop as they are so low in fat, and you can do very tasty recipes pretty easily with them. They were cheap, too! So I think I might get some more for the deep freeze before the season finishes, which isn't long now.

Is anyone else combining WW with Alli tablets? I was apprehensive at first, but I thought I'd give it a try. I haven't had any of the nasty side-effects you hear about in the horror stories, but I also don't know if they're making much of a difference...I guess time will tell.

I am not going to post my weight here - let's just say I have loads to lose. But it's nice not to feel like I'm in it alone!

shellie123 · 13/03/2011 12:33

Hi everyone, I've just started the new weight watchers pro points system last week, have my first weigh in on Thursday morning. My friend who I've gone with believes that I have a head start over her, as I've never done weight watchers before, so I'm starting a blank page whereas she has to learn the whole system again, as she used to go to the old points system.

To tell you the truth, I'm not to good at watching what I eat, so for me that is what I'm finding hard to cope with, but I'm sure I'll get into the swing of things soon enough.

I made a chicken chow mein last night, it was lovely, filled me right up and was only 9 pro points, 5 pro points without the chicken. I have the recipe if anyone is interested.
