DVD arriving tmw.

What should I be cutting out/modifying?

THose of you doing the Shred, if you could give one tip about eating when doing it, what tip would it be?

I love food so need to know what is really important....helpful if I can find just one or 2 things to be strict about.

I am already attempting to drink more water.

Just try to cut out anything processed, stick to 'good carbs' like wholegrain bread, pasta, brown rice etc, but have slightly smaller portions and have slightly larger portions of lean protein, eg chicken, fish, lean beef, egg whites etc, and as many different veg as you can get on your plate! Eating five times a day, ie 3 meals and two snacks will help keep you feeling full and your energy levels up and you should aim to eat within an hour of finishing the shred as this is when your body needs the protein and carbs the most to help rebuild and refuel the muscles.

Amygeorgina · 04/11/2010 10:30

Oooh, let me know how you get on, I've had the DVD for a month, still not started it, what a lazy lard arse I am! We even went and bought a set of weights and work out mats to do it with. Must crack on, it's only 30 minutes a day!!

titferbrains · 04/11/2010 12:02

Hi Amy, why don't you start today with me?

Scary I know but I've bought a new DVD player to do it, am planning to use tins of tomatoes as weights today but also buying some proper ones.

Would be nice to know that someone else is dragging their body into shape with me!

I am fully prepared for horrendous pain btw, I am horribly unfit and need to lose 2 stone, I discovered yesterday. But will report back with full details of the pain/sweat levels.

Lostgirl, will try to follow yr tips. Baked potato with tuna and salad for lunch today, I know it's a bit carby but I have no brown carbs in the house. Chicken with lentil and roasted squash salad tonight.

LostGirl · 04/11/2010 13:27

Absolutely nothing wrong with a baked potato when it's part of a balanced meal like that. Hope you both enjoy the shred, I did it back in January and was really pleased with the results.

Amygeorgina · 04/11/2010 15:45

I'm doing Guides tonight (another excuse) unless I do it at 9pm when I get back!!

Definitely tomorrow though if not! We can keep each other going. I need to lose about 7st and that doesn't even get me into the correct weight for my height so christ knows how I'm going to feel when I've done it!

She just looks scary! Imagine having a real life session with her!!

titferbrains · 04/11/2010 17:53

Hi, I managed to do the Shred at lunchtime today.

Required a bit of organisation - getting my lunch ready whilst DD had hers, as I knew I'd be ravenous afterwards - and getting straight on with it once DD was down for her nap.

It was tough, but I managed to only stop 2 or 3 times, and for just a few seconds - and tried to do a couple of make up moves after each stop.

Really got me sweating and I did have to do one big growl to keep going at one point, but over all not too bad.

Am aching and feeling a bit wobbly in the legs but am pleased that such a short work out can have that effect!

Did "no mayo" tuna today mixed with peppers, tomato, spring onion, fresh herbs and capers, and a load of mustard to make it sort of creamy and tasty. Very good with potato. Big salad with lemon juice and a drizzle of extra virgin nut oil that a health nut friend got me.

Can I get a woop woop?

Woop woop!! What's 'Shred'??

BusyMissIzzy · 04/11/2010 18:18

Well done :o) It's a very intense workout. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results.

titferbrains · 04/11/2010 18:19

30 day shred = exercise DVD designed to make your life hell-- help you lose weight and tone up in 30 days doing 20 min of intense exercise everyday.

Not for the faint hearted.

Ta for the woop woop! I won't be feeling so smug when I fall down the stairs instead of walking down them...

OP posts:
Amygeorgina · 05/11/2010 13:39

Oh defo woop woop, I just know it's going to woop woop my arse, I don't think we'll be able to do it, we're both 20st, WTF is that going to be like, we'll shake the house apart!!

Will give it a go this evening though, OH said he's going to start jogging round the block once DD is in bed so I'll do the Shred and he can go for a jog. If it's too much, we'll go and get the Hannah Waterman one or something!!!

LostGirl · 05/11/2010 14:34

You will be able to do it no matter what sort of shape you are in. Make sure you have a glass of water on hand and when you need to take a rest then grab a drink and then join back in when you've caught your breath/feel like you can move your legs/arms again! Just don't be put off if you find you need to take a breather before the warm up is over, remember that the whole point of the workout is that it needs to be challenging. If you can do it all no problem then it is not going to have any effect on your body or fitness. Look at it as a long term challenge and aim each time you do the dvd to try and do one more rep of each exercise before you have to rest than the last time you did it. Hope you enjoy it Smile

iluvcake · 05/11/2010 16:06

Hi! Can I join you?

I've got the DVD and did it for five days then life got in the way. I'm on the NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS SLIM FEELS thread and I need to up my exercise and tone up.

I'll start tonight!

iluvcake · 05/11/2010 20:13

Done! Sweaty and shaky but pleased!

Did you manage it today titfer? Amy? Grin

titferbrains · 07/11/2010 20:56

Hi, I went away this weekend - was in total agony on friday AND saturday btw - and then did it with my OH on Saturday before we had a big family meal!! VERY proud, esp as we had 4 family members watching us and sipping G&Ts while we sweated for their entertainment. YES, REALLY.

My OH is so happy I've committed to this. Smile and I am most gratified to say that when I got up this morning, I was MUCH less stiff and sore.

Food and booze were a bit heavy this weekend but I am definitely eating more mindfully and had a big salad with our pasta this eve, which stopped me from finishing the last tuna meatball and from hoovering up the last bit of pasta left in the pot. So hurrah, I have DD's lunch for tmw sorted too! Grin

Planning to do again tmw plus a good long walk if I have time. Making soup for freezer for lunches and will buy more salad.

Would be lovely if people can keep this up with me!! Need to order weights as tins of tomatoes totally aren't cutting it tho...

Will post after work out tmw.

BTW I should add that my motivation is our trip to the states at the end of the month - I'd like to be feeling slightly trimmer, and would like to continue doing the workout whilst I'm there to offset the almost unavoidable calorie fests they call meals there... It is incredibly difficult to eat healthy but satisfying meals in the states, you wouldn't believe it. So burning some of it off has got to be better than doing nothing, no?

And well done, iluvcake! I love to bake cakes so totally understand the cake vs shred struggle...

OP posts:
iluvcake · 08/11/2010 11:17

Yay! Well done titferbrains!! Am so impressed you do it in front of family members, lol!

I didn't manage the weekend but I went on an hour's bike ride instead. I have done it this morning and am aching but feel pleased. I am going to do my best to do it every day but I know I'll miss the odd one here and there. Tomorrow I will miss as out straight after school run and then out in the evening.

From what I remember from last time, the aches and pains go after about a week as you get used to it. It is hard for the first few sessions though.

Keep posting! We'll do it together. Imagine yourself slim and toned for your states trip!

iluvcake · 08/11/2010 11:18

That should be did it..."do it" sounded rudeBlush! That'll teach me to post before checking...

titferbrains · 08/11/2010 12:55

ok well am about to get changed and ready to do while dd has her nap.

Haven't yet sorted lunch, but will be a sort of superfood salad with broccoli, lentils, feta, cucumber, avocado, spinach, herbs, lemon dressing. And whatever else is in the fridge.

Poached egg on one slice of Vogel bread this am, and a cup of tea. Butter on the toast but will try with just marmite tmw.

House is quite chilly so looking forward to warming up!!

Yay for my little thread!

titferbrains · 08/11/2010 13:58

Ok, done day 3!

Felt very sluggish today and had to stop a couple of times, only for a few seconds but disappointing. THink it's because I haven't drunk enough water...

Preparing my big salad.

Trying hard to avoid sugar. Having 1 or 2 dried apricots if I feel an urge.

OP posts:
iluvcake · 09/11/2010 20:45

Did't end up going out tonight so have done another shred session!

Am aiming to do another tomorrow morning. My arms are aching from those chest flys! Had to use tins instead of weights tonight!

Have you managed it today titfer?

titferbrains · 09/11/2010 22:29

Hi there, didn't shred today, but tried a pilates DVD that I chose with the Shred disc. Unfortunately it's a bit too advanced for me, the exercises where you are really burning calories are extremely difficult and require too much coordination and particular breathing rhythms for a novice like me! So back to the shred tmw. Feeling a bit achy from the exercises I did try so I guess that's a good thing.

Well done for going for it today!! Will join you in smugness tmw...

OP posts:
iluvcake · 10/11/2010 10:31

Hi titfer!

Yes, pilates is quite tricky to get the hang of esp. from a DVD. I have a couple that have never really been used properly. I go to a class now-quite hardcore-with the machines. Some of the exercises actually make me shake and sweatBlush.

I've just done another shred this morning. I'm actually going to count Monday as my first day as I didn't do it at all over the weekend. So this is my third day.

titferbrains · 10/11/2010 10:55

Great, well done. Do you do it with DC running about? And before or after breakfast?

Well done for keeping it up, aches will disappear soon.

Re: pilates, there is a fancy Pilates place near me that I think I will sign up to for just a few weeks so I can understand it all better. Then move to cheaper place near my house!

I am feeling achy in a different way after doing the Pilates for only 20 min yesterday - impressive! How often do you go to your classes?

Trying to figure out meals for today... if I am not organised I'll eat something dreadful....

OP posts:
titferbrains · 10/11/2010 21:50

Did it this eve before supper. Only had tomato soup for lunch and a piece of toast at 8pm . Post workout I ate Jamie O shepherd's pie, cabbage, peas and red cabbage... and some tiramisu. But only a bit of the latter!

Not ideal I admit.

Will try to do better tmw....
