How do I eat when doing 30 day Shred?

titferbrains · 03/11/2010 22:29

DVD arriving tmw.

What should I be cutting out/modifying?

THose of you doing the Shred, if you could give one tip about eating when doing it, what tip would it be?

I love food so need to know what is really important....helpful if I can find just one or 2 things to be strict about.

I am already attempting to drink more water.

Usually do it in the evening straight after putting DS to bed and have dinner after-albeit a bit sweaty! I'd prefer to do it in the morning but don't always have time and it eats into the day. If I had to, I would do it with DS around!

Give the pilates place a go-I started with matwork a few years ago and it's great if you can get a good instructor with a small class. The machines are very challenging and you need to have quite a few one to one sessions first before joining the classes, so it's not that cheap!

Did you manage to eat well today?

iluvcake · 10/11/2010 22:46

Sorry, X posts!

Got distracted by Apprentice/You're Fired and took ages to finish my post.

Your food sounds ok!

titferbrains · 11/11/2010 14:07

Food not going that well - I can't seem give up butter on my toast. Had a fried egg on toast today!! but only fried in 1 tsp of oil as my non stick pan is pretty efficient. Only fried because my poached egg broke and turned into an icky mess in the pot.

CHilli with rice and natural yogurt for lunch.
Couldn't be arsed with salad.

Making chicken paprika tonight. Will serve with rice and lots of veg. Will buy low fat sour cream, tho it pains me to do so...

Desperate to bake so might have to make some cookies this aft. My baking addiction is more powerful than I thought. I want to make oatmeal and cherry, or oatmeal, apricot and dark chocolate. Will freeze balls of dough so I am less tempted to eat them during the day...

iluvcake · 11/11/2010 20:05

Baking is a bit lethal! Cookie dough is SO NICE!! I had a little blip today and scoffed a packet of peanut M&MsBlush. Not sure what to suggest as a substitute for butter-there's nothing like it really is there? I do love butter on toast but have been trying to stay away from wheat really.

You're doing really well. Just keep thinking of how you will look after a month!

Why don't you come over to the NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS SLIM FEELS thread. Am sure there will be some suggestions there. There are some good recipes too-just doing one for dinner now. Everyone is really supportive and they are really keeping me going.

Have just finished day 4 shred. Will be giving tomorrow a miss as I do a bootcamp class on Fridays. Not sure if I could face shred as wellWink.

Have you managed to shred today?

titferbrains · 11/11/2010 21:51

Yay have shredded! So that's my 6th one I think. I am beginning to enjoy the pleasant ache in my thighs and the smug feeling of being a bit stiff in the morning because I actually did 20 min exercise the day before... Grin

DH still really impressed and pleased that I'm keeping it up. Irritating that he is dropping without shredding, he tends to lose when stressed and he's working like a MF atm.

Forgot to mention I'm trying not to drink also - empty calories and all that. Turned down a glass of red that I REALLY wanted this eve.

Will have a lurk round the NTAGASF thread. What is Biffing, btw? My suggestion is Bugger it, Full Fat but I'm guessing that's not it...

Had the Chicken Paprika tonight and removed chicken skin and degreased very carefully. Really was delicious and very comforting and I was pleased to see that I could have added even more peppers to bulk it up, so will remember that next time. Had half a yogurt for pud. Still not drinking enough water, off to shops tmw to get a sports cup with a straw thing, I'm better at drinking thru straws for some reason Hmm

Hope yr bootcamp gets you good and sweaty tmw! Right, off to pick up some tips from all you slim-feeling types...

titferbrains · 11/11/2010 21:53

oh, meant to say, I didn't bake in the end, no time. But have been baking for years and don't tend to be much a picker when it comes to cookie dough. It's the finished product I enjoy! Seeing family at weekend so will give all to them if I do bake.

iluvcake · 12/11/2010 13:24

Bloody well done titfer! Are you finding it a bit easier now? I STILL can't finish the bicycle crunches right at the end.

Boot camp hard this morning, felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest! Just kept thinking about how many calories I was burning!!

"Biffing" is stuffing yourself with loads of crap. I like your guess tho, lol!!

With the water, I have a 1 and half litre in the kitchen and then decant it into a 500ml bottle. I have one in the morning, 1 in the afternoon and one in the evening. If you drink some with meals too, you'll find it's quite easy to get through it all.

titferbrains · 12/11/2010 15:23

hey well done on yr bootcamp.

Am baking brownies as I type Confused but am giving them all away!

Have to do a cake for my MIL tmw am, so that will get all the baking out of my system.

More toast with butter incl 1 slice with jam today because I forgot to buy bananas yesterday. But did that livestrong my plate thing last night and it looks like I ate the right amount of calories, or at least it all roughly totted up to the amount they said I should eat to lose 2lb per day.

Out for dinner tonight. Hope to shred when brownies are out of the oven. Not sure how I'm going to handle being out and faced with delicious options for food but am not going to worry about it. As long as I'm exercising often, that's WAY more than I've been doing since well before DD was born. Plus, Jillian has left me with no energy for beating myself up...Grin

OP posts:
iluvcake · 13/11/2010 08:43

Titfer, did you manage to shred yesterday? Hope you gave those brownies away?Wink. What is the livestrong my plate?? Did you really mean 2lb per day??

I was planning to shred this morning and tomorrow morning. Before bootcamp yesterday, I had a bit of a stupid accident. My car boot fell down and hit me on the head! I was fine during the exercise but gradually yesterday my back started to stiffen up. I've obviously jarred something.

I'm reallyAngry. It's really put a spanner in the works. I was even tempted to just do it this morning but I think I ought to leave it in case I make the problem worse. I've got a history of back and neck problems. Keeping my fingers X I can do it tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

Are you going to be able to do it over the weekend?

titferbrains · 14/11/2010 00:42

oh yes 2lb per week... whoops! Blush

Yes shredded yesterday but been out most of today and decided to cut myself some slack. Back to it tmw, hopefully first thing but otherswise before supper.

So sorry to hear about yr accident!! Get everything checked out, any more jarring could be really dangerous, and it takes a while for these type of injuries to heal.

Hopefully you can get back on track.

Will let you know how I get on. I did my first shred with proper weights yesterday, 1kgs instead of tinned tomatoes... Feel a bit more achy today but pleased that I didn't eat too much when out for lunch, salmon with roasted veg and cabbage, and one new potato. No supper this eve, just a yogurt, I'm home alone and decided to skip it after I burnt my rice, Angry and [muppet emoticon]...

Did bake a big cake this eve but only tasted a tiny bit of icing and lemon curd to check for taste, will have to try a small piece tmw tho! HAve to say that doing shred as often as poss means that I am making more effort to keep busy and moving all day, which is nice! Just want to keep burning energy so I'm not gaining. Someone asked if I'd lost weight today, it was really nice!

Fingers crossed you feel better soon Smile

iluvcake · 14/11/2010 11:14

Thanks titfer. Back much better today but have been a bit naughty and shredded this morning(with DS trying to do exercises beside me!). If I go to the doc, he'll tell me to rest. Will see how it feels later.

Well done with your food and your 7th(?) day of shredding. It sounds like you are well on your way to losing weight. I think you deserve that (tiny)Wink slice of cake!

iluvcake · 15/11/2010 12:02

Day 6 done!

Managed to do bicycle crunches all the way to the end (woop! woop!).

Let me know when you've done it today.

titferbrains · 15/11/2010 21:15

Shred done and now waiting impatiently for shepherd's pie to be cooked - shred was a bit of a slog as I haven't drunk enough water and have a headache as a result. Period started today so that's an extra joy. And slept badly last night.

Shred level 1 is good but I feel like I could move onto level 2. I am going to continue doing level one and will also attempt whichever bits I can do of level 2. I really dont' think I can be arsed with calorie counting/low fat as with many others on the weightloss threads so more exercise is the way to go. And the reason I am enjoying the shred is that I have no excuses, I chose to rest during DD's nap today but have squeezed in shred this eve and could easily set alarm earlier to do it in the morning. Am also terrified of coming back from my holiday the size of a planet. Have already had baking requests from family! Planning to bring laptop and buy region1 Shred DVD if necessary, to play in hotel room! I am committed!

My goal is looking nice for our yearly xmas do in December. Really hope I can keep it up. Felt positive that despite feeling tired and the pounding headache, I was able to cope with almost all of it, pushing thru when I'd normally stop, and only struggle to do full push ups.

Read elsewhere not to linger on Level 1 if ther are bits eg. push ups that you can't do, practice those in yr own time, at end of work out, and move on to level2 etc.

REally hope thatyou are feeling good today. Great to be able to come here to talk!! (or witter... Hmm Grin)

Hello!Smile

Day 7 just completed. I am the same as you today, I really didn't feel like it. Not drunk enough water and feel achey with scratchy throat but I did it. The beauty of the shred is you can tell yourself "It's only 20mins, it'll be over before I know it" and it is. If it was one of those hour long ones, there is no way I would be sticking to it.

Well done for getting through it yesterday especially with "AF". That is dedication! AND trying the full push-ups! I haven't even ATTEMPTED themGrin.

Food-wise, I'm not even eating low-fat. I'm just eating three meals and two snacks a day. All healthy stuff and no crap. I am a real chocolate addict but I'm finding I'm becoming addicted to feeling great. Before, it used to take me ages to get out of bed in the morning. Now, I just open my eyes and I'm ready to go. I can't believe how much better I feel not eating tons of sugar like I used to.

Even with just the shred, you will definitely lose weight (and tone up). I was doing Weight Watchers before and not really sticking to it but exercising and I still lost weight every week.

I'm feeling ready for level 2 as well. Think I might give it another day or two. There is something going on with the muscle underneath my shoulder blade (prob to do with the car boot dropping on my head on fri!Sad). Am a bit worried it's going to get worse but just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it will go away. I know not the best policy but will see how it is tomorrow.

We're both doing well!! Are you on day nine now? Hopefully you have managed it today?

KEEP GOING!! Think of being toned on your holiday and looking amazing for your christmas do!

titferbrains · 17/11/2010 11:19

didn't shred yesterday but nice brisk walk to shops managed. Taxi home as was feeling so awful and tired! AF not so bad today so hope to shred later.

having the meals and snack seems to help doesn't it? Personally, I find that beign in a good regular rhythm of eating each day is also very healthy - Had cravings for sweet stuff the other day and I am sure it was because I'd waited too late to eat lunch.

off to shops again with weights on ankles!

OP posts:
iluvcake · 17/11/2010 20:14

Hope you're feeling much better this evening titfer. Agree re snacks, they def keep me going. I would find it hard to last between meals otherwise and I would start to get shaky.

Well, tonight did level two! O.M.G!!! I thought I was going to throw up. I hope to god it does get easier. I had to keep stopping. Was actually getting quite smug so that's wiped the smile RIGHT off my face. I hope I can keep it up! Have you tried to whole thing yet?

I've had a few cravings today and had some chocolate and a couple of biscuits. Let's hope the shred this evening will cancel those outGrin.

iluvcake · 18/11/2010 19:33

How are you doing titfer? Hope you're feeling ok.

Don't you quit on me!! (in the words of Jillian MichaelsGrin)

Having said that, I haven't shredded today. I'm feeling bit fed up and my shoulder is twinging. Worried about making it worse with those horrendous push-ups etc. in level two. I've got a bootcamp class as well tomorrow so thought I could let myself off the hook until Sat...

titferbrains · 18/11/2010 22:36

Hi cake - shredded yesterday but not today. Packing, visitors, playgroup = no time. Had a few biscuits and pudding this eve, AND a big glass of white wine, but have to say that I've obviously been eating more carefully, because I now feel a bit too full! so I think I've shrunk my appetite a bit. Not much, mind...

Will only post intermittently while I'm away, but pls post yr progress on here. really encouraging to know that you are keeping it up and hey, then when we get to the end, we can celebrate!

Hope boot camp goes well and REALLY hope you keep it up. Have you tried alternating hot/cold on yr shoulder? hope that improves.

Bloody hell forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS on getting to Level 2!!!!!!!!!! How do you feel after it? getting a bit nervous about it myself but looking forward to trying it and seeing how I get on. Eek!

OP posts:
iluvcake · 19/11/2010 12:57

Hi titfer! When do you go away??

Bootcamp this morning so will give shred a miss tonight-am out anyway.

Level 2 is hard. Lots of jumping around. The exercises are a bit strange but am sure it will get easierHmm.

I could feel it in my tummy and my ribcage later on but feel fine today.

chocolateorange · 19/11/2010 13:10

Hi, sorry to but in, but.........

I've seen this Shred lark mentioned quite a bit on mn and the 30min bursts of exercise sound almost appealing/not too daunting.

My question is, can I - a seriously fat fucker - do it? Is it for healthy weight folk to go from looking fine in a bikini to looking honed, toned and fierce aswell as serious weight loss?

I have about 4 stone to lose, is Shred a good way to start?

iluvcake · 20/11/2010 16:48

Hello chocolateorange (ooh-I LOVE chocoranges).

Yes! You can def do shred. There are 3 levels and I would say stay on the first level (which isn't too bad) for a while. You do get quite puffed out but it's only 20mins.

I would recommend a good sports/supportive bra thoughGrin!

chocolateorange · 22/11/2010 13:45

Thanks iluv (ooh i luv cake too!) will go for it i think.

MadameCastafiore · 22/11/2010 13:50

Am starting my shredding again tomorrow - lost a stone and really toned up but hurt achilles and had to give it a break for a while - body now not getting heavier but toned bits going a bit flabby.

Make sure you do the first level for long enough that you don't feel whacked doing it or you won't be strong or fit enough for level 2.

Then you can work up tot he burning fat DVD that GM has done - it is for almost and hour and works but you feel as though you may combust after doing it and makes the shred seem like a sunday afternoon stroll.

iluvcake · 22/11/2010 21:05

Hi MadamCastafiore!

The hour long dvd makes me feel tired just thinking about it. Encouraging to hear that you haven't put weight on since doing it.

I was going to do it today but haven't managed it.

Will be back on the report I have done it tomorrow!
