If you are 5'2 or thereabouts, what weight gets you into a size 16?

Curious to know as I haven't been a 16 since about the year 2000

It depends how you carry your weight.
If it is all on your torso and slim arms and legs you will take a bigger size than someone whose fat is spread all over at the same weight.

It's so easy to get hung up on weight and sizes and bloomin' BMI scores.
My ambition when I started Mounjaro was to wear a fitted waistband with a feminine tucked in blouse.
Due to my body shape I've modified my thinking and will settle for a semi stretch bottom half and a flattering loose but fitted top (if that makes sense) and avoid all tent like cover ups (usually polyester).
I've spent years choosing dark cover up clothes that have aged me so I'm changing my mind set ...... I want something to show for the effort and money spent.

Varies so much with body shape doesn’t it! I’ve lost 25 kg now, BMI 22, and have only gone from size 14/16 to 10/12 (I am tall though) 🤷‍♀️

I'm 5' 1" and 12 stone. Size 16-18.

Me too!

User37482 · 07/09/2025 08:24

5ft 2, 11st size 14 in Next trousers L or XL in Zara, pear shape so tops are often medium.

Roserunner · 07/09/2025 08:30

I'm 5ft 2 and just over 11 stone and mainly a size 12, sometimes a 14 in bottoms. I've been lighter but wearing the same or larger clothes. I exercise quite a bit so I seem to have changed my shape but just can't lose the weight!!

someon · 07/09/2025 08:31

im 5.2 and was size 16 at 11stone. But that mainly my top half as I have a huge bust but now more a size 14 But I’m now 9 1/2 stone and I’m now a 12/14 in sizing bottoms half was a 14 more at 11 stone. To me it depends on the shops as I think sizing is all over the place nowdays.

Kleya25 · 07/09/2025 08:44

Another shortie here - currently 11 and a bit stone and between a 16 and an 18, one problem being the matronly bosom and the other being the lack of consistency in sizing across labels and batches of clothing. I've been every size in my life from an 8 to a 20...

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 07/09/2025 11:39

5,4 currently 13.10 and I am a size 20 as I was whrn I started at 15.7. I know I haven't gone down a dress size as my jeggings and leggings still fit / don't fall down. Weird as people say I look like I have lost weight but it's not reflective in my clothes.

I just bought a new dress and the 20 still looked better than the 18 so I stuck with the size 20

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 07/09/2025 11:40

I’m 5 foot 2 and was having to buy some size 16s (jeans, jeggings) at 11 and a half stone.

i think this is how I feel. I absolutely will not wear any jersey stretch tops that float or are baggy - I have done that for years and I’m enjoying being able to dress differently now. I’m currently in a coffee shop in my gym leggings and top (although I do buy men’s gym tops bc they are longer) as I have been for a walk but wanted a coffee after it. Never in a million years would I have worn such a get up in public. This summer has been great with long skirts and nice loose trousers with t shirt. So far away from the previous me!

you are right about getting hung up on it though. I’m mostly a 16 but I won’t be happy until those jeans that don’t fit fit, but by then I will be dropping into a 14 for other things so rinse and repeat probably!

I'm 5'1" and was wearing 16 on bottom at 13st 3lbs. Top depends.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/09/2025 14:58

A lot of this does depend on build, boobs etc - I’m 5ft 4 and 13 stone 5 , down from 15 stone, I’m now into some 16s down from an 18 , but my 18s still lol ok - just looser

Marmite27 · 09/09/2025 15:03

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/12/2024 22:54

I'm 5'2" size 16 and I weigh 10 stone 10lbs

It’s funny isn’t it how it varies, I’m 5’2” and I weigh 10st 8.25lb and I’m wearing size 10 stuff. Though tbh I think k a lot of mine is in my boobs Sad

myladyjane · 09/09/2025 15:45

Oh I am 5’ 3 and started at bmi 38 as a 18/20. Now down to 12 stone (bmi 30) and I’m a 14/16. My 18s were fine until about 1/2 a stone ago then seemed to go completely clown like almost overnight and I have skipped 16 tops altogether.

i still have a big winter size 20 coat that looks fine (I mean it’s a huge ankle length puffa so always not brilliant on me but it’s warm and looks as good as it e er does!)

AsteriaBuffy · 09/09/2025 15:54

I'm 5ft 3 - for years I was a (bottom heavy) 16, weighing somewhere between 11 and 12 stone.

Above 12 stone my bottom half went to an 18 pretty quickly. Over 14 stone (as I am at the moment) I'm size 20 bottom, 18 top.

L4ura171986 · 09/09/2025 17:31

I’m a size 16 at 14 stone and a size 14 at 12 stone. I was a 12 (long time ago) at 10.5 stone. I am dead on 5’2”

BeReet · 09/09/2025 18:01

TwinklesToes · 29/12/2024 22:04

I’m 5.0 and 11 stone 7 pounds and size 18. I’m an apple shape.

So weird how we can be the same, yet different. I am the same height and weight as TwinklesToes but I am a size 14. I am an hourglass shape. I think at 12st+ I would be a size16

Foodylicious · 09/09/2025 19:02

lleeggoo · 06/09/2025 22:20

Quoting myself here becsue I still don’t fit into my M&S size 16 jeans. I have 2 pairs from next, one fits and the other doesn’t, but all the rest of my things - trousers etc are a 16 and fit fine. Gutted that I still haven’t made it tbh, I’m weighing in at 13 stone 2 today. I guess I need another few weeks…

I'm 5ft 2 and anything above 10.5st and I'm firmly in size 16 m&s jeans. A little over 11st and they are getting too tight.
For reference I have the same jeans in size 14 and 12 as I've work the same ones (siena straight) for years.
A little under 10.5st and I can squeeze in to the 14, but they are not comfy.

GoodVibesOnly21 · 09/09/2025 19:51

I’m 5ft 1 and weigh about 12 and a half stone. I can fit in size 16 clothes. Sometimes I can fit in size 14 tops as the bottom half of me is chunkier than the top half!

glassof · 09/09/2025 19:59

Really interesting thread. In 5'2, just under 11st and a size 12, big bust, apple shape

WicketWoo · 09/09/2025 20:26

I’m amazed by the variances on this thread. I’m 5ft 2” and weigh 10st and I’m a size 10, sometimes an 8. I’m not a healthy BMI (about half a stone over) but if I lose much more I know I’ll look ill/gaunt.

i don’t understand the variation.

I was a size 16 at 11 stone, verging on an 18 - I'm 5 foot and half an inch. I'm pear shaped.

I was a 14 at 10 stone, a 12 at 9 stone and now a 10 at 8 stone.

DaphneduM · 11/09/2025 10:18

5 fr 4 ins - size 16 for M and S jeans and most other clothes - my present weight is 11 st 7 lbs.
