If you are 5'2 or thereabouts, what weight gets you into a size 16?

Curious to know as I haven't been a 16 since about the year 2000

Currently just into a Next size 16 jeans and a whopping 96kg. Vanity sizing for sure.

poppetandmog · 31/12/2024 17:51

I'm 5'3 and 14 stone. I vary between a 14 and an 18 depending on the store! I bought size 16 jeans from M&S yesterday, for reference.

Body shape counts for so much. I'm 5"2 and small up top but carry lots of weight on my bum and legs. the heaviest I've been is 11 stone 8 - I looked too chubby for my liking but my waist didn't go above 30 inches so still wore a 12. Since then I've got down to 10 stone - still the overweight BMI band - but with a 28 inch waist so 10s in tops and dresses but still a 12 in trousers - though I'll definitely have an extra half a stone (at least) to lose in January as I've been enjoying time off work and pigging out!

In my younger days I was around 9 - 9 and a half stone but tbh I look ok at 10 stone and I'm healthy - BMI is just an NHS policy at the end of the day!

5ft 1. I was 11st 7lb in the summer and a size 14-16. I am 8st 12lb now (thanks to MJ, don't hate me) and I am a size 12 because this time my boobs and waist just haven't decreased in the same way. Happy at this weight though, don't want to go lower as it's too hard to maintain so a size 12 it is.

ginnybag · 31/12/2024 21:39

5'1" currently 12.12.. and just tipped into a sixteen.

That said, I've always been 'heavy' for size, even as a size 4 ballet dancer at age 19

Foodylicious · 31/12/2024 22:01

5ft 2 here and a size 16 now. Anywhere between 10.5 to 11.5 stone and I'm in 16 jeans and 14-16 tops.
9.8 to 10.5 st size 14
9.5 stone and under and I'm a 12
9 stone or less I'm a size 10 (and also dereaming haha)

Hudders3 · 27/03/2025 20:36

5’2 11st 10 pounds and a size 12 on bottom and 12/14 on top so I think it depends on your shape rather than weight

User37482 · 27/03/2025 20:39

5ft 2in and about 11st. 14 trousers in next 16 everywhere else. I really think it depends where you buy clothes from and stretch etc. I have some old next linens that are 16’s that fit perfectly but when I bought some new ones even the 14’s are a tiny bit loose around the waist. On shape I have a massive arse but a 28 inch waist. So I imagine shape makes a big difference too.

Adelstrop · 28/03/2025 08:39

5'3'' and just over 12 stone, size 18. I'm apple shaped so lose weight in all sorts of places but painfully slowly in the middle. I reckon another stone before I get into a 16. The lowest weight I have been as an adult was 9 stone 7 lbs, and that was size 14. I would be delighted with that!

tryingtobesogood · 28/03/2025 08:55

5:2 here and last time I was comfortably in a size 16 I was about 13st. 11st was a 14. So I guess it’s 2st intervals more or less.

brombatz · 28/03/2025 08:59

91kg currently, just bought a coat & top in a 16....

lleeggoo · 22/06/2025 22:02

I was 17 stone 11 and a size 20 when I wrote this thread. I’m now 14 st 4lbs and a 16 - 18. I’m so excited about fitting a 16 and it won’t be long before I’m firmly in the middle of the 16 zone!

At 5ft 2 and about 11st a size 14 in NEXT fitted non stretchy trousers, solid 16 most other places but I tried on a pair of trousers with an EU label and was a 48 which I think is an 18

Namechangerage · 22/06/2025 22:21

5ft 1 and 11 stone. I’m a 12/14. It’s wild to see such fluctuation on this thread!

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 22/06/2025 22:21

I’m 5ft 1 weigh 11st 12lbs and a size 14

Richtea67 · 22/06/2025 22:29

I'm 5ft 2, was a 16/18 at 14.5stones, now 11.5 stones and a 14/16.

Pumpkinforever · 22/06/2025 23:02

5ft 2 11 stone 8lb vary between 14 and 16. 16 can be loose and a 14 tight depending upon from which shop and what I am buying. I am smaller on top with a big arse

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 22/06/2025 23:06

Such a huge range of weights.

for me at 5 foot 1, about 11.5 stone would tip me into a size 16. I carry all my weight on my belly and bum when I’m that weight.

Quoting myself here becsue I still don’t fit into my M&S size 16 jeans. I have 2 pairs from next, one fits and the other doesn’t, but all the rest of my things - trousers etc are a 16 and fit fine. Gutted that I still haven’t made it tbh, I’m weighing in at 13 stone 2 today. I guess I need another few weeks…

I find that M and S jeans are tighter and smaller than a lot of other brands.
I'm in size 12 in JD Williams jeans but can't get into my size 14 M and S ones.
I'm 12st 1lb and 5' 3".

spanieleyes · 07/09/2025 06:52

At 5’2” and 12st 3, Ive just managed to get into a 16 but I do have a very large bust! I find sizing really difficult now, I just used to buy expanding clothes and didn’t really know what size I actually was, probably a 24/26 as Ive lost over 6 stone.

Lazygardener · 07/09/2025 06:56

5.2 and 11stone (down from 14.12). Size 16. Having a big bust and being apple shaped really doesn’t help. I’m aiming for another stone off and hoping for size 14.

lleeggoo · 07/09/2025 07:01

I’m actually more of a 14 up top now which is mad to me as my top half used to be a size bigger than the bottom. Its just such a slog to get into those jeans!!

You have done soooo well with your weight loss. Well done!
I'm just over 5' and at 11stone 7lbs I was wearing size 16 stretchy trousers and loose tops. I'm weighing in at 10st. 3lbs now and wearing size 14 stretchy jeans . I have a large waist and can't imagine ever wearing fitted waistbands again.
My first goal weight is 9st. 7lbs but 'experts' say I need to be approx. 8st 10lbs.
What weight would you strive to be?

I started at around 20 stone and I didn’t dare think about it back then. The more I lose the more I think about it and ten stone loss would be amazing. That’s something o never thought i would ever be able to do! It would still leave me just very slightly in the overweight category for BMI and while I know that’s not the best measuring tool I do think if I got my BMI from 51.2 to 25.2 that would be ok even if still technically ‘overweight’. I wonder if maybe the closer I get the more able I will become to set a real ‘healthy weight zone’ goal? ATM I’m still struggling to imagine it
