Thought I was post-menopausal - now on Mounjaro and period has returned

Hi, I have just turned 53 and went on Mounjaro 6 weeks ago. I was 'officially' post-menopausal having not had a period for over 12 months (actually it was about 15 months). However, I was still having some 'hot flashes'. My weight gain was menopausal - went to 12 st from 10st, all around middle area. Nothing would shift it. Never been overweight in my life previously.

I was on 2.5mg of Mounjaro for 4 weeks and now I'm on second week of 5mg. The following has happened -

Hot flashes (flushes?) stopped almost immediately.

Knee pain (which was a sports injury from my 20s but, I believe, was exacerbated by menopause) subsided - bear in mind I was considering knee surgery.

Breast tenderness in last few days (similar to what I remember from early pregnancy in my 30s).

Sudden increased sex drive (sorry if tmi, but it's hormonal so including this).

And now, period has returned. Last month I had a few days spotting (on 2.5mg), this month, on 5mg, it's like a regular period.

Anyone else? I feel like Mounjaro has somehow reversed the menopause! How can this be? Any doctors on here?

How did you manage to get prescribed it when you were only two stone overweight?

She didn't say she had been prescribed it in person. Anyone can buy it online; you can say you're whatever weight you want.

I would see a doctor asap.
any post menopausal bleeding should be investigated

I was having these issues too on Mounjaro. I had what felt like 3 periods in the space of a month with stomach cramp and all the other hormonal changes. I'm on HRT and when discussing this with my hormone specialist she done some research and found out that Mounjaro causes problems with the absorption of oral hormones (anything taken by mouth and goes through your stomach). I take Progesterone to protect my womb lining and also to balance the effects of Oestrogen as I don't metabolise it well. I was taking Utrogestan capsules orally which obviously weren't being absorbed. We think this is what caused the bleeding, Oestrogen dominance and all the symptoms that go along with that. So if this might be what has happened to you then maybe think about taking any oral hormones in another form i.e. creams, troches or patches. I also experienced this on Saxenda.

You must get an urgent GP appointment. Any post menopausal bleeding needs to be checked out urgently.

I have now had a period every 2 weeks since starting mounjaro, after being post menopausal for 2 years. Had a scan and all fine e but definitely a thing. Have tried several things to readjust progesterone intake but not settled yet

Menopause can’t be reversed in the same way that ageing can’t be reversed and a pregnancy can’t be reversed.

I’m stunned by the armchair endocrinologists.

HA! You know why I am here this morning? Because, I have been been done with my cycles for 15-17 years now.

I started Maunjaro May 1st at 2.5mg. This month I started 5mg and guess what?! YEAH! I have been having some issues just like the others. I decided to research if the MJ shot causes this and there are medical pages out there who state women are reporting this side effect - Not just social sites like this one and Reddit.

And Dutch is right! Another side effect that can happen to heavy former drug addicts, is when they start using up their fat cells, it can also release any drugs they took, even years ago and they can have after affects from those, as well.

There's a LOT going on in the physiology of peoples' bodies. Many of which, doctors do not even understand! And man-made, synthetic, lab toxins don't help the matter. So, they learned that GLP-1 can cause weight loss and blood sugars to get better. Well, they do not yet know all the other processes in the body that rely on the GLP-1 or keep it balanced and no one knows the long-term effects, yet. I for one, was very leery about going on this man-made crap but I decided I would try it out on a trial basis.

And I am beyond irritated that this side affect is going on, to be quite honest. And I may be jumping off the train real soon! If it can go this far, who knows what else it can do.
