Secret users - how many people do you think are taking MJ

I’m a November starter and haven’t told a soul, not even my DH. I may do at some point, I just want to see how I go for a while. I’m just wondering how many other people may be taking it that we all know in real life but have no clue. On another thread someone said her beautician said almost everyone is secretly on it! Do you really think that’s the case?

@snarkygal
What a lovely post from a non-user. Thank you. We need more women like you in the world.

AlphaApple · 22/11/2024 17:11

I am a secret user. Told no one, not even DH. I have been slowly losing weight after a gynae issue that led to an abdominal hysterectomy in 2023. This is my chart. Guess when I started Mounjaro?

I've been doing a lot right in terms of diet and exercise but after 50, in a sedentary job and an obesogenic society, it's hard to keep up the motivation when you're losing an average of 0.5 pounds a month...

I think there are lots of people on it. A best friend of mine says tonnes are taking it - she's been on it for 1 few months. We live in an affluent middle-class area and the general impression is that people are definitely on it. Not openly. Of course the naturally slim people advise against it - with their fake concern - because they want to maintain the monopoly on being slim!

I asked the nurse about it during my smear test, as she told me I was at higher risk of breast cancer, being obese, and she said loads are on it, including quite a few of the GPs at my large surgery, and some of the nurses.

I think while there are people judging the use of it, people like me will remain quiet about it. I will only share it with others if I suffer side effects that make it harder to keep it quiet.

I am on it secretly - my DH, my best friend and my boss know. And that is it. My teenage DDs don't know, no other family at all, and no one at my sports club.

Funnily enough - I saw a fellow player at my sports training this week and she had noticeably lost a tonne of weight. She is tall and broad like me and her clothes were loose. I had just started MJ but it didn't enter my mind at the time when I saw her. I said "hey skinny-minny - you look fab, you've lost loads of weight" (I know her well enough to say this!). She said in a very non-committal way "ahh well, you do what you can" or something like that, and shut it down. In retrospect I'd be surprised if she's not on it! But that's her business. I'm not telling anyone so I don't expect her to mention it.

He's a narcissist to be brutally honest

Oh I'm sorry to hear that 😔 I had an ex who liked me better when I was heavier I think it made him feel better about himself and could use the whole 'who else would want you?' spiel at me. Pretty sure he was a narc!!

Ooh I can add- not to me personally but have seen comments on mumsnet threads:
Ozempic face looks bad
They make you look older

What is "Ozempic Face?" I lost a lot on Ozempic, over 20kg, so curious!

Bellyblueboy · 22/11/2024 18:34

When people lose a lot of weight quickly, their face can become sunken.

its nothing to do with the drug itself - its the weight loss.

its not a new thing - the face or bum debate!

Brilliant @1clavdivs very creative.

We can use that on every ‘concerned about you larger ladies losing weight as I don’t want you to become as thin as me’ thread 😂

HellofromJohnCraven · 22/11/2024 18:50

Well I'm taking it but keeping that info private, not secret

HansHolbein · 22/11/2024 19:18

@1clavdivs amazing! Really funny!

Do we have permission to use this when we get the next round of op-posts-goady-threadaboutwli-and-doesn’t-return? We usually get one a week.

I was thinking a while ago that we needed a bingo card for these threads.
Love it and I'm sure it will get plenty of use on here.

1clavdivs · 22/11/2024 20:28

Damn, I forgot "you can't stay on it for life you know".

HansHolbein · 22/11/2024 20:37

Oh but that’s a biggie 😂

MJOverInvestor · 22/11/2024 22:55

The friend I recently wondered whether she was on it, told me recently that she was (and we compared notes). The person who told a friend that he'd lost 10 stone 'mostly' by drinking green tea, I'd say either a gastric sleeve or wegovy/mounjaro... 😂

Oh yes my friend told me about that!! I think now I am older and doing weightloss then I am at risk of Ozempic Face 😅 I think from other people I know who've lost a lot of weight your face does 'settle' eventually but agree it does look a bit sunken to begin with. Being in my forties I have noticed my bum has gone completely flat, it's horrible to look at 😑 gonna start doing squats to make it a bit more curvaceous I think. Not sure if that'll help though ☹

If your bum has gone flat It indicates a signficant lack of muscle. You need to be careful when losing weight, on any diet, to ensure you eat enough Protein and exercise, as otherwise you lose muscle instead of fat. Maintaining muscle is critical. And not just for the appearance.

as for the face, it’s the same as any diet, if you lose weight , enough of it, then you will get a slimmer face, it’s nothing to do with the drugs, and everything to do with weight loss.

Oh that's bad news 😕 I cycle loads as I don't drive and I walk a lot also, so I figured I must have some muscle round my posterior!! But it really has gone very flat of late. It'z not something I regularly look at but I was using a mirror to see how long my hair was.

It honestly teminds me of that picture of John Lennon and Yoko, where they are naked and holding hands- my bum looks like his! Except with a bit more cellulite

Yes you should have muscle if you do that. But I guess it depends on the sort of cycling you’re doing and walking, like gentle or putting proper effort in. Cyclists normally have lean bodies and well defined muscles on their legs and bum. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a cyclist with a lack of muscle. But again it depends on what you’re doing, ie how often, for how long and how hard. It could also be you’re losing muscle instead of fat.

a flat bum means no muscle there, and yeah it’s not good news, sorry. But worth focusing on.lack of muscle or muscle loss is something to be addressed.

MounjaroUser1233 · 23/11/2024 12:52

Maybe I should start cycling / walking a bit faster! My bike is quite crap and old; although I cycle I wouldn't call myself as cyclist as that implies it's my lifestyle or hobby. If that makes sense. I was wondering if my bum's gone flatter due to sitting down on the bike seat!?

That doesn’t happen really. I mean it can happen, if yoy just sit there for hours and don’t move, like any other seat. But no your bum goes flat when it has no muscle.

Smallsalt · 23/11/2024 13:18

People keep it secret because of the weirdly agressive judginess from large numbers of people.

MN has been full of threads with people absolutely foaming at the mouth with rage about the injections, which they don't take and apparently would never dream of taking .

It's the weirdest thing. They seem to have forgotten " you do you".

Such hostility towards a medication with the power to really help people and actually improve public health right across the board if it becomes more widely prescribed.
No wonder people keep it a secret .

AlphaApple · 23/11/2024 13:23

Squats, a trillion of them, for a better bum.
