I’m a November starter and haven’t told a soul, not even my DH. I may do at some point, I just want to see how I go for a while. I’m just wondering how many other people may be taking it that we all know in real life but have no clue. On another thread someone said her beautician said almost everyone is secretly on it! Do you really think that’s the case?

@XmasMarkets I don't think feminism wants me to stay morbidly obese just to stick it to the patriarchy. I don't want to be thin, I want to be healthy and live longer. I certainly don't use Botox or any other cosmetic treatments. It seems like women can't win, apparently by wanting to lose weight I'm a pawn of the patriarchy!

HansHolbein · 22/11/2024 09:17

@SilenceInside we can add that one to the bingo card too, it’s a new one!

To the two posters on this thread who said they are vomiting twice a day or feel desperately unwell on the second week of 5mg . Reduce your dose!

Thank you but I had very little effect from 2.5mg.

mrstumbler · 22/11/2024 10:09

I've lost over 2 stone on it, I'm now 10.5 and want to get back to my pre pregnancy weight of 9.7

I have only told my mum and husband, it's not something I'd shout about because I've seen on here how people judge. One of my closest friends would absolutely judge me.

@SilenceInside we can add that one to the bingo card too, it’s a new one!

Bingo card so far:

Stealing from diabetics
It’s cheating
You’ll pile the weight back on when you stop
Not learning healthy habits
You’re stuffing your face with cake while taking the jab to still lose weight
It’s anti-feminist
Experimental drug
I worry for you about the side effects / unknown long term risks
People are dying from this
Try eating less and moving more instead
All that loose skin

That's because hardly anyone is getting desperately ill on it!
People are getting ill because they have stupidly bought a fake. Which is entirely avoidable quite honestly if they have any sense at all. Even today there is a BBC article claiming someone get ill on the drug. They didn't. They bought insulin instead.

What!!!! How the heck did they manage thst 😑

NewDogOwner · 22/11/2024 10:17

I am a secret user. I can't believe my husband hasn't commented on the fact that I have gone from eating a whole pizza on Friday pizza night to eating two tiny bits and not eating the crust to saying I don't care what we get on a Friday for dinner.

IlovetoKnitandRead · 22/11/2024 09:26

Just don't do a full 5mg dose each time.

NewDogOwner · 22/11/2024 10:22

MineMineMineMineMine · 22/11/2024 08:31

For most people on these they are obese/morbidly obese so it's health concerns in my case as much as beauty standards. I agree around issues around women and beauty but in terms of these drugs they are targeted at those of us u healthily large.

I've been pondering why I don't want people to know. I actually think it's just my immediate family as they are judgy especially around money as I hardly have any. And weight. And well they're not all that nice really.

I am likely to start in April which seems ages away now!

You will save a lot of money on food bills. You don't eat anywhere near as much and care less ab out what your eat so I am happy to make story fry veg with no meat or veggie sound and bread for dinner which I would have turned my nose up at before and insisted on something 'nice'

IlovetoKnitandRead · 22/11/2024 10:58

NewDogOwner · 22/11/2024 10:18

Just don't do a full 5mg dose each time.

I don' t want to do anymore. I really didn't like the feeling of sudden fullness, pain, nausea, constipation and has cost me a fortune in Gaviscon 😅I was waking up at night with a mouth full of bile. I lost weight because I couldn't eat very much and my calorie intake was very low. I am glad that so many are finding it doable and can tolerate the side effects, but not me. I dread to think what it was doing to my stomach lining with all the acid.

MounjaroUser1233 · 22/11/2024 10:58

I worry about this too - over-eating has been a crutch of mine since childhood and not having 'food noise' has been amazing. But in the longer term, I know I need to make peace with my past so that I stop binge-eating. As soon as I ran out of MJ I started eating again 😪 these medications are great but I don't know what happens at the end? I really want to stop yo-yo dieting! And also I can't afford to be paying this much every month for the rest of my life 🙃

I took it, prescribed from an online chemist. I was classed as obese. I lost 10 kg in 6 weeks and stopped taking it. My weight has fluctuated 2kg up and down since but I am sticking to a healthy eating plan and keeping my movements up.

I didn't tell DH as he's dead against it. I told my mum and dad and I told my sons.

The headaches became unbearable and no amount of weight loss was worth them constantly. I was dehydrated even though drinking over 3ltrs of water a day. Acid regurg was bad and food i ate the night before was not digesting and i would bring some of it up whole the following morning. I was getting to the point i was going dizzy and nearly passed out a few times, and shaking a lot so stopped straight away.

I did think about maybe trying again but then there was a lady on the news whose mum died. She had gall stones, her whole body was dehydrated and because she had no appetite she was not eating and drinking, not intentially just forgetting and it made her so ill she died of pancreatitis.

Edited

Why is your DH so against it? Just being nosy!

I have family who were against it at first but now they have seen how much it has helped me they are less so. I think for them, it was like "there's no such thing as a magic bullet" and they thought it was all snake oil.

Jeeze. We live in a world where we make women feel their ultimate goal in life should be to become as small/ thin as possible l

We then make ourselves sick from eating over processed unnatural foods full of sugar and chemicals... and doing very little exercise....

So women (it's mostly women) then feel that they must spend £1000's on more chemicals which they inject into themselves, making them feel sick, so they can starve themselves and get even less nutrition.... to be thin.

Oh and don't forget to pump some shit into your cheeks, eyes and forehead whilst you're at it ladies!

There's a criminal, orange sex pest in charge of the largest superpower, who is mates with a bond villain who spreads lies, misogyny and hate around the world...

The patriarchy is alive and well ladies. Truly it is 😔

Are you not aware of the severe health risks of obesity?

snarkygal · 22/11/2024 11:45

I have some friends on it and it seems to be working really well for them, I'm glad. They have been open about it and we're all just interested in how they're feeling and getting on.

I am slightly overweight, I don't seem to have the impetus to hold back on the cake now I'm middle aged. Personally I'm happy to know there is an option out there if I do end up quite fat, and have no judgement on anyone needing to use it. I exercise a lot and mostly eat very well but the world is full of delicious treats I can't resist and my metabolism is getting very slow, and diets are bloody miserable and make me want to eat more. I can really feel the extra weight I carry around these days when I'm out running, exercising or even just lying in bed, so I can't imagine how crap it must be to be bogged down with a lot of extra weight.

Good luck to everyone on it.

Softpersimmon · 21/11/2024 22:19

I was also talking to a friend who is a nurse the other day and she doesn't understand why the media is not talking more about the people who end up desperately ill from taking it. She says she has had to treat quite a number of people who have been made dangerously ill. And that's just in one hospital

ah, is that your friend’s cousin’s husband? I heard the same…ffs

My best friend saw I'd lost weight and was really worried I'd taken it as she's read about the side effects and I had said to her that I might try it.

is she really worried or is she worried you’ll lose weight and she won’t be the thin one? Even my ‘healthy eating obsessed’ mum has now come around to the fact these are game changing and life saving drugs

No in my case she would not be worried if I was the thin one, she is a genuine friend 💕 but she is also a bit of a worrier and I'd told her all about the awful side effects of my Saxenda (worst stomach pain ever, awful diarrhea and almost shitting myself!) and had showed her the needles and I think it just really freaked her out. She is luckily someone who's in very good health (touch wood) and rarely takes any medications so the idea of injecting yourself just really weirded her out. In contrast another friend who's been on various medications for years, all different types of antidepressants, and had varicose veins removed and a few other things, has not been surprised at all that I tried weight-loss injections. I think that she is more used to being a patient and in that mindset, and just kind of 'gets it".

I would love to know how many men vs women are using weight-loss injections. I saw an ad for Voy on Instagram (which was funny cos I am already using them) and the advert featured a guy who'd lost weight. I guess cos Mumnet is mostly women I had assumed it is mostly women who used it! It really took me by surprise 🤣 I wonder if male users are more likely to be secretive? Would love to know!

Witchyandtwitchy · 22/11/2024 11:54

I’m a secret user.
It’s nobody else’s business but mine. My GP knows obviously, as the online pharmacy informs them.
I just don’t want to get into a discussion about it with judgy in-laws etc, which is why I haven’t told DH.

I’m eating normal healthy food same as I was beforehand, but smaller portions and no desire to snack. No carb cravings. Still drinking alcohol at weekends, but less than before.
As the weight, 1.5 stone so far, has come off exercise has become easier and more enjoyable.

I feel like I’m getting my life back. Why would I want to invite discussion on fake ‘concerns’ or why it’s all such a bad idea?

This 9s the most shallow post I have had the misfortune to read. How can you go so low as to make it about appearance and vanity and women being such stupid little things we do this to pander to the male gaze. On a predominant female forum too, how insulting and shallow of you;

obesity is the leading cause of cancer, it also gives us, men and women, increased risk of stroke, diabetes, heart attack, the need for replacement joints, the risks are huge and real.

we are intelligent women. We don’t inject ourselves just to be thin and please men, we are injecting regulated and approved drugs to support us to get to a healthy weight and reduce our health risks.

please take the mysgony elsewhere,

They make you look older

It's not fiction is it, the link I shared was from the MHRA. If they are expressing concern it would make sense to sit up and notice.

And having googled it is clear the press are reporting on it.

I would love the drugs to be totally benign, and for many it may be worth the risks, but it is important to understand the risks and not attack people who talk about them. I don't get at all angry if people talk about the very serious risks of my medication, indeed I am grateful they acknowledge the risk I live with every day. It's curious how defensive people are about the risks of Mounjaro

www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-14059075/amp/Mounjaro-health-never-taken-patients-effects-UK-death.html

Amazing.

Ah, the barrel scraping of google to post articles that you clearly haven't read, or if you did attempt to read, cannot understand them has landed you up with the Daily Mail. Hats off to you for finding your level.

Meanwhile, back in the real world my genuine and not imaginary nurse SIL had until I discussed it with her last week, never even heard of Mounjaro...

As I say, back in the REAL world, here are the actual ANNUAL death figures for common medications in the UK:

Ibuprofen - 2000 deaths
Paracetamol- 261 deaths
Amitriptyline - 270 deaths
Contraceptive pill - 380 deaths
Tampons - 3 deaths a year due to toxic shock
Covid vaccine - 59 deaths

Is this enough RISK to get you to flounce to the far side of er, flounce yet?

Flibbertyflo · 21/11/2024 13:13

Half of mumsnet it seems. I don't get not telling your OH. What if you have a bad reaction or an accident and he needs to supply a list of medications. I think if diet after diet has failed then people will be thinking weight loss injections.

They'd know because it's on my medical records.

I don't think you can blame the patriarchy on women not wanting to be obese! It's really bad for you to have belly fat; it increases the risk of heart disease. I have close family members who've died from this and want to avoid it and losing weight is one way of doing this.
I don't want to have sore knees if I walk somewhere. I don't want to be out of breath when I'm playing with my children, and have to 'sit out'.
I really don't want to develop type 2 diabetes!!!
I don't even want to be thin, I just don't want to be obese anymore - I want to be a healthy size because (clue's in the name!) it's healthy.

MineMineMineMineMine · 22/11/2024 16:55
