I started taking MJ at the beginning of April. I’ve been a slow loser, and have lost 2 stone in the time I’ve been on MJ.

My starting weight was 84kg and I am now 71.5, I am 5’7.

I took my last injection last Sunday, so just over a week ago and it was around 6mg (counting clicks on a 12.5mg pen)

I have definitely noticed hunger today. However I am able to deal with that at the moment by reminding myself I had lunch an hour ago etc so I do not need to eat.

I think everyone on these meds worries what may happen when you stop. It’s like any diet, if there isn’t a lifestyle change, you will regain all the weight.

I thought I’d start a thread for some real life experience of what will happen - I’m aware I’ll still have MJ in my system for the next couple of weeks, but will be a good experiment to see if the hunger becomes unbearable or manageable with my new found knowledge of better food groups to eat!

Having been on MJ for 6 months I’m fairly sure I am able to make better choices now - famous last words 😂

Well done on the loss and finishing MJ - I haven’t found it difficult to maintain, and I don’t think Xmas really counts as a measure of weight regain because I didn’t want two weeks where I counted every calorie, and have loved it!

I've always said @NearingendofMJ I am happy to have fluctuations of up to half a stone for Christmas and holidays etc. Because life happens and while I want to be a healthy weight I also am not going to miss out on celebrations, eating out, enjoying myself when I know I can work to get that back off again.

At the end of the day, we all end up in the same place (my mother just died this week so I'm a bit more YOLO right now) and I'm not going to spend what time I have left needlessly restricting myself.

FlappingMadly · 31/12/2024 16:00

I'm so so sorry for your loss @SnacklessWonder 💐💐

Coldandunderablanket · 31/12/2024 17:17

I'm sorry @SnacklessWonder too. Hope you are looking after yourself.

I stopped cal counting on Christmas eve evening and didn't log over Xmas day/Boxing day. I was back on it on the 27th and I made healthy choices. My weight is still stable. Definately hungry but I have a strict framework of cal counting and exercising around me so I'm managing more than ok.

I'm off out tonight for a few cheeky pints and a curry. I've been in deficit over the last few days by a couple of hundred cals per day so I can enjoy my meal/drink but still be very much on track.

My slim husband does this naturally, I'm still learning how to do this balancing act. Hopefully one day, I can manage it without logging everything on MFP!

olympicsrock · 31/12/2024 17:49

Hello - thanks for sharing how you are doing . I’ve been off MJ for 6 weeks now , have enjoyed eating and drinking over the Christmas parties , binged on chocolate / biscuits a few times and gained 3kg.
It would be easy to feel downhearted and in retrospect it was a bad time to come off MJ purely from a weight point of view but it has been fun to drink and be silly .

I’m considering restarting MJ to lose the 3kg again ? Can anyone comment on how the side effects have been second time round?

LoveSandbanks · 31/12/2024 19:24

SnacklessWonder · 31/12/2024 12:46

Have you been calorie continuing during that time or eating unrestricted?

No, I’ve not been calorie counting, it’s been Christmas! I would expect some of the weight to be “water weight” and I’ll recommence calorie counting from
2nd January (calorie counting with a hangover is futile).

NippyCrab · 31/12/2024 19:28

@SnacklessWonder so sorry for your loss, hugs 🫂

@LoveSandbanks have you not calorie counted etc for the whole of December since you stopped MJ? Hopefully it's not all a stone in weight and is water etc x

ive definitely done mostly calorie counting, including days when I overshot. The last fewer hasn’t been.

SnacklessWonder · 31/12/2024 23:34

I mean I don't blame you @LoveSandbanks neither have I Grin I was just curious!

IlovetoKnitandRead · 04/01/2025 08:51

Mj is completely out of my system now . I put 6lb on over the 3 weeks running up to the Christmas period. I didn't calorie count and enjoyed my Christmas food and cheeses etc. I am back to Fast 800 now and have had two 800 calorie days since Xmas. Weigh in today and I am down 4lb. I will continue to use 2 x Huel black shakes once a weeks as they are 35g protein and low carb and follow the low carb recipes in the Fast 800 cook books.

EBoo80 · 04/01/2025 09:04

Thanks everyone for updates which are really helpful.
I’m meant to be shifting to maintenance this month, although am feeling tempted to keep losing, as I have an easy time on MJ (no side effects at all really). But i suspect I have a better chance of maintaining at a window near the top of healthy BMI, also I miss my boobs and worry about them deflating further if I keep losing. 😆

NearingendofMJ · 06/01/2025 09:13

Update - I’ve lost 2 pounds of the Xmas weight, so now am only 4 pounds above the end weight after finishing MJ.

Finding it pretty easy to get back into the swing of things, the Huel has been useful but I do feel sluggish with all the rubbish I ate over Xmas so looking forward to getting back to the healthy eating.

I’ve also been making a soup, which is so simple but low calorie and high fibre - it’s just boiling some carrots/parsnips/swede adding a couple of vegetable stock cubes, a bit of chilli and some red lentils then blending it.
It’s been really filling and so easy to make.

Glad to hear all is going well @NearingendofMJ . I was ill over Christmas and therefore am within a few pounds of my goal weight earlier than expected. I've decided to titrate down, rather than quit altogether, although I have just had 3 weeks without any MJ, as I was so ill I stopped injecting. I noticed a return of appetite once I started getting better and also food noise was back. Not as loud as before, but I noticed myself thinking about food in a way I hadn't since mid-August.

So I decided to halve my already feeble 2.5 dose down to 1.25 to use up the stuff I've got and also to give me a chance to keep on re-training my brain. It is a complete experiment as there appears to be very little scientific information out there about titrating down, but from what research I have found, I don't think a small dose is going to harm me. It might be a waste of time! I guess I will find out.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 13/01/2025 21:54

Hope it's okay to post my story and bump this thread, found it really useful.

I was on MJ for 4 months, Sept-Dec 2024, lost 26 lbs but I was on no higher than 3.75mg. Side effects weren't terrible but rather low level all the time, constipation, low mood and lethargic. Decided to go it alone as by December I wasn't losing any more weight than I could do by myself.

In 2023 I lost 4lbs in the same time period (Sept-Dec) and I realise now I was on the right track but trying to eat 1300 calories a day in beige food and obviously feeling hungry and overeating as a result.

4 months of MJ has taught me portion control, it's reigned in my sweet tooth and it's also taught me to be okay with feeling hungry. I still managed to eat quite well whilst on the jabs which has continued since coming off them.

Last jab of 1.25mg was on 23rd December.
I maintained over Christmas/New Year and lost a lb this week via calorie counting (eating lots of fish, chicken and a range of veg) and exercise. I'm so pleased to be putting the work in and it actually working.

SnacklessWonder · 13/01/2025 22:00

Well done @Allmyfavouritepeople I have also stopped MJ now and have maintained the same weight for the past 3 weeks, and actually slightly less than I was before Christmas!

I was on from August - December, only went up to 5mg and in that time I lost 37lbs. I am now at a healthy BMI, although it's at the high end but I am happy with that as it feels maintainable.

I'm not trying particularly hard with food or strict calorie counting, but I am being mindful for example I had pizza tonight so I ate light during the day, didn't snack etc. The hunger and food noise is definitely back but I am generally managing to ignore it and just get a cup of tea during the day when I think about eating!

Coldandunderablanket · 15/01/2025 21:22

Hi - it's wonderful to hear everyone doing well. My slow slow titration continues. I've lost 4 stone and was at 10mgs. I've dropped down andnow on 3mgs (i take it every 9-10 days)

I'm dropping 0.5mg every couple of weeks.

I'm calorie counting and eating what I burn off and have maintained my weight since October.

Some days are difficult but the strict cal counting seems to keep me on track. I've upped my exercise so can eat more when I train.

I did a calculation and I currently have 1.8mgs in my system - I'm not sure if its microdosing MJ or new habits that's keeping me on the straight and narrow......

20bloodypounds · 30/01/2025 10:02

@NearingendofMJ how are you doing? I'm getting close to my goal weight and I'm wondering what to do next.

I’m good thanks! I’ve lost the extra from Xmas and am now around 2 pounds heavier than my finish weight on MJ (I finished 4 months ago)

The difference for me after MJ is that when I have a night out or a weekend away I don’t then see it as I may as well carry on, I go back to eating sensibly. I’d also say my cravings are nowhere near where they used to be pre MJ

@NearingendofMJ thats really nice to hear!!

Do you think the ‘simply going back to eating healthily’ is about a healthy diet being the norm now or is that your cravings have calmed down a lot so it’s not as much of an effort?

Yes the healthier, or definitely just thinking about how much I’m eating, is a lifestyle change.

This is the first time ever I’ve been able to keep chocolate in the fridge without eating all of it at once. And that’s not just a one off, my partner frequently buys me a big bar of chocolate and on every occasion I’ve had 3-4 squares and put it back. I just don’t fancy binging, it’s not a case of me using willpower, I just don’t fancy it.

This must be down to my body resetting expectations or something because I was on MJ for 6 months up until October and obviously had a reduced appetite and this seems to have carried on, as I just don’t have the cravings and binge eating that I have been doing.

I feel hunger and respond to that, but I’m able to now stop and thing about what to eat rather than just grab 6 bags of crisps. In fact, even in the supermarket when I’m looking for some snacks for the weekend, I often just don’t fancy anything.

It’s like I actually learnt new habits, and I like it!

@NearingendofMJ this is so good to hear! I'm hoping with 16:8 and being a happy weight I will keep it off. I think it's the thing of once it's off you don't have the well fuck it mindsight that exists when you're already obese! Really glad you're doing well.

I think there is truth in this, for me anyway! I know when I was overweight, I'd think 'fuck it, I'm already fat, what does it matter for one more day...."

I've stopped too a couple of weeks ago.
Weight 10s12
Goal 10stone so still nearly a stone to lose. Wasn't on it too long, 4 months and lost 2 stone.
Started back at the gym after a big absence away and starting weight training again to try boost the final weight loss.
Interested to see what happens. I've lost weight in the past and it was hard, put it all back on after a stressful first career.
I've been on holiday and haven't gained any weight but I know it'll still have been in my system.
I have family members who will be on it forever they've said, to maintain and support
I didn't want to as it was making my immune system lower than normal plus super tired.
So far, I'm less scared of being hungry than I used to be. I'm hoping I can maintain willpower and lose the last 12 lbs

SnacklessWonder · 22/02/2025 16:36

Good luck @GoodEnoughParents

I'm about 8 weeks off now and weigh less than when I stopped. I'm finding it pretty easy to maintain to be honest. Weighing every day keeps me on the straight and narrow, mindful eating - but still having takeaway, drinking wine a few times a week etc.

If I want something I have it - only difference is now if I'm having a curry for dinner I'll have eaten really well/low cal the rest of the day and probably day after whereas before I wouldn't have even thought about it. Would have happily had bacon sarnies, McDonalds lunch, a bottle of wine and a curry in one day!

I'm hungry like I was pre MJ but not any hungrier if that makes sense. People have said that the hunger will come back worse and I have not experienced that at all. I find it easier to cope with, mentally too and even 8 weeks MJ free I've adjusted to not wanting to overeat and knowing when to stop.

GoodEnoughParents · 22/02/2025 18:08

Thanks @SnacklessWonder
I've gained a lb in last few days but I've just started back doing weights for first time in a couple of years so I'm hoping it's that (water retention/muscle tears) as I've been really sensible food wise. Trying not to panic. I've got 12 lbs to lose in next 9 weeks but also to tone up as I've lost some muscle mass sadly

Tohaveandtohold · 22/02/2025 19:51

I finished last week as well and I’m now 2.4lbs lighter. My last BMI was 24.9 and it’s now 24.5. So far, this week has been good. Maybe because I never want up more than 5mg so never had full suppression for the last 8 weeks, I’ve felt hunger just like before and I’ve made right food choices.
I’m trying to see if I can get to 23.5 in the next 2 months but I’m happy where I am currently.
I got the Renpho scale some months ago and it’s nice watching my body fat go down and my skeletal muscle and muscle mass go up. I’m going to focus on that in the coming months, keep doing weighted exercises to tone up and try and make sure that the changes I’ve made continue.
@SnacklessWonder , I’m encouraged by your progress and I’m cheering everyone on this thread on .
