I started taking MJ at the beginning of April. I’ve been a slow loser, and have lost 2 stone in the time I’ve been on MJ.

My starting weight was 84kg and I am now 71.5, I am 5’7.

I took my last injection last Sunday, so just over a week ago and it was around 6mg (counting clicks on a 12.5mg pen)

I have definitely noticed hunger today. However I am able to deal with that at the moment by reminding myself I had lunch an hour ago etc so I do not need to eat.

I think everyone on these meds worries what may happen when you stop. It’s like any diet, if there isn’t a lifestyle change, you will regain all the weight.

I thought I’d start a thread for some real life experience of what will happen - I’m aware I’ll still have MJ in my system for the next couple of weeks, but will be a good experiment to see if the hunger becomes unbearable or manageable with my new found knowledge of better food groups to eat!

Having been on MJ for 6 months I’m fairly sure I am able to make better choices now - famous last words 😂

Hello! I’m 2 weeks into no MJ, but have been keeping quiet on here really as I kept being told I was definitely going to put the weight back on if I didn’t stay on it for life.
As expected I’m hungrier than I was while on the jabs. However I’ve added in an extra 500 calories to take me into maintenance rather than weight loss, and they seem to be doing the trick. Today I had a late breakfast of Greek yoghurt, raspberries and granola, didn’t fancy lunch then had chilli con carne, rice and avocado for dinner. An apple and a babybel as a snack.
Im currently at exactly the same weight as I was when I finished.
Good to have a thread to support each other in a no MJ maintenance!

I remember your posts on the other thread. I was wondering how you were doing with it and really hoped you'd be able to maintain as you wanted.

I'm also in the don't want to be taking this for life camp. If I can't keep my blood sugars under control, that would be a different issue, but I am hoping to have educated myself better about how I should (and shouldn't) be eating to achieve that. MJ got me out of the food rut I was in, but only I can keep myself from going back in it!

I've definitely learned that there is more to it than just calories in, calories out.

olympicsrock · 28/10/2024 19:54

I want to be able to up the exercise more before stopping but I’ve been too tired to exercise much !

olympicsrock · 28/10/2024 19:55

Maybe instead of MJ starters by month date we need MJ finishers by month!

My energy levels have definitely increased since stopping the jabs.

Hell no to being on MJ for life .

I know it’s not going to be an easy ride, but I didn’t find being on MJ easy either with the fatigue and nausea. I really wanted my stomach to feel ‘well’ again.

That’s really interesting to hear. I originally planned to kickstart the weight loss with MJ and then move to a more traditional exercise and healthy eating plan but the MJ fatigue has been difficult out to navigate. I should find it far easier to exercise 3.5 stone lighter, I can certainly do the hills more easily , but I am tired .

Right?! I just felt like I was existing, and although losing weight felt absolutely bloody terrible the first couple of days of any strength of jab.

I feel alert and awake today and as a result I’ve managed a lot more steps

One Of the biggest changes for me will be that I don’t drink much alcohol any more. I used to reach for booze socially and when stressed and drank at least 20 units a week. I now drink no more than 5 units . I don’t think I will go back to that now .

olympicsrock · 28/10/2024 20:04

I have felt tired like i had low blood sugars day 1-3 and have had to be careful not to schedule major things at work these days and make sure I eat enough to avoid low sugars and queasiness.
and I have STILL lost weight on 5mg
no idea how some people tolerate higher doses…??!

Yes, this is the same for me too. A large part of my weight gain was due to the habit of too much wine creeping in over lockdown, and then the habit continued. MJ broke the habit for me and so far I’ve felt no desire to get back into it.

SnacklessWonder · 28/10/2024 20:11

ItsAlrightDarling · 28/10/2024 19:47

Same, my stomach was so delicate that I was craving stodgy carbs.

Yes same, I get nausea (I think it's actually when I am hungry) and then I want carbs to quell it. At the start I was eating lovely voluminous salads with a good amount of protein but can't face it as they started going straight through...!

ItsAlrightDarling · 28/10/2024 20:23

A couple of other things I’m doing to try and keep it under control… I’ve meal planned and batch cooked so there is always something decent to eat. We were so busy and stressed that we were resorting far too often to unhealthy options, so I’m making sure there’s always a healthy option in the freezer. I’m also sticking to the exact same breakfast as I had on MJ. I am continuing with the increased water intake. I’m also continuing to weigh every couple of days. This means that if it starts to creep up at any point, I can get a handle on it straight away.
Lastly, I’ve diverted some of the MJ money towards group fitness coaching sessions.

That’s the stuff! Really thinking about what you’re doing and accepting this is down to you now. Great push on MJ and now over to you to realise that investment you’ve made and live a healthier lifestyle.

I certainly intend to as don’t want to lose the momentum I’ve got of feeling overall better, not out of breath walking and not dreading what I’m going to wear at social events!

I've lost nearly 3 stone in 14 weeks.
4 x 2.5
4 x 5
4 x 7.5
2 x 10
I'm planning on staying on a maintenance dose.. once I've done all does up to 15mg.
It's to be discussed between me my GP and diabetic nurse... see what is best for me.
I tried two diabetic medications that weren't suitable.
I'll be happy with a 5 stone loss.

Moier · 28/10/2024 20:51

People talk of side effects. Myself and my daughter haven't had any.
I stocked up on Ginger root capsules for the nausea.
Peppermint oil capsules for the burbs and wind .
Imodium for the diahorrea.
Not had any problems.
We just felt like we wanted to eat healthier.. no fried / fatty foods...
It's working.
Plenty of protein..
We always drank loads of water anyhow.
We don't drink alcohol or carbonated drinks.
Good luck everyone.

MelainesLaugh · 28/10/2024 20:52

This is so interesting. I’m a long way off of coming off of MJ, but it’s good to hear how those who have are coping

TheBoldHelper · 28/10/2024 20:57

Do,you think maybe you went to too high a dose op? Was there a reason you went so high as 12.5?

Everyone is different! Fab that you’ve had no side effects.
I never made it higher than a 7.5mg dose!

I think maybe I wanted that final push? I only took it for one week as felt so unwell.

I always knew I wouldn’t stay on MJ long term. Firstly I just don’t personally feel it’s healthy, not to mention cost, but equally I didn’t feel I should medicate myself not to eat forever as should learn some coping mechanisms whilst I was on it.

Im hoping with the lessons I’ve learnt plus feeling better which will enable me to move more will help me lose a bit more

Well done to everyone of you and I wish you all the best as you navigate maintaining your weight without MJ.
I’m still 4 weeks in so early days but I plan to do the same as well when the time comes and I’ll be following this thread.

Rubyred3 · 28/10/2024 21:37

Hi, thanks so much for starting this thread.

I started MJ at the beginning of April, lost just over 2.5 stone. Have another stone to go but have started tapering down.

Found the appetite suppression a little too unhealthy, and I want to lose the rest by relying on the good habits I've developed.

Hoping it doesn't backfire! My plan is to continue cooking from scratch, have low carb meals, little dairy (I am a vegetarian); having a clear daily calorie allowance and weighing myself every couple of days to monitor progress.

That’s so great to hear that you are positive and willing to make the changes needed.

im feeling the familiar hunger right now but I can now understand that I don’t need to eat. I can go to bed and it won’t kill me and I can have a healthy breakfast in the morning.

Before I’d have been ordering Uber eats 😂 but I can now see that’s a choice I was making, I won’t drop down dead from hunger if I don’t eat a pack of crisps
