I started taking MJ at the beginning of April. I’ve been a slow loser, and have lost 2 stone in the time I’ve been on MJ.

My starting weight was 84kg and I am now 71.5, I am 5’7.

I took my last injection last Sunday, so just over a week ago and it was around 6mg (counting clicks on a 12.5mg pen)

I have definitely noticed hunger today. However I am able to deal with that at the moment by reminding myself I had lunch an hour ago etc so I do not need to eat.

I think everyone on these meds worries what may happen when you stop. It’s like any diet, if there isn’t a lifestyle change, you will regain all the weight.

I thought I’d start a thread for some real life experience of what will happen - I’m aware I’ll still have MJ in my system for the next couple of weeks, but will be a good experiment to see if the hunger becomes unbearable or manageable with my new found knowledge of better food groups to eat!

Having been on MJ for 6 months I’m fairly sure I am able to make better choices now - famous last words 😂

Thank you! I really want to follow this thread as I intend to stop in about 7/8 weeks. I'm already getting really hungry on 5mg (I've not moved up further) but I am classing this as a good thing to get used to, and I'm thinking about food more but I've still got willpower.

CrazyGoatLady · 28/10/2024 19:27

Following as I think I'll be looking at maintenance/tapering after maybe 2 more pens.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 28/10/2024 19:28

Thank you for starting this. I still have a long way to go, but am worried about how I will manage when I come off.

The good thing is that I am learning what triggers me to eat when I'm not actually hungry, so I am hoping I can learn to deal with that over the next few months.

Welcome! I am hoping I can break the cycle of binge eating which is what I have been doing the last couple of years.

I’ve had tea tonight and don’t feel like snacking but if I am hungry again later, I’ll remind myself I’ve had a full meal and do not need to eat!

That’s exactly it isn’t it, we all have been eating when we don’t need to.

Something I’ll be reminding myself of frequently 😂 I’ve been so much more comfortable since losing weight, but I don’t like the side effects of MJ, I’m grateful for the push it’s given me and it’s now down to me to be more responsible!

Thanks for this thread. Can I ask some questions please and be nosy?

what was your starting BMI and what is your current BMI?

do you have more weight to lose or other goals, or are you just wanting to maintain your current weight?

what made you decide to stop MJ completely, instead of tapering down?

I’m really curious as I’m hoping to be you in a couple of months!

ItsAlrightDarling · 28/10/2024 19:33

Hello! I’m 2 weeks into no MJ, but have been keeping quiet on here really as I kept being told I was definitely going to put the weight back on if I didn’t stay on it for life.
As expected I’m hungrier than I was while on the jabs. However I’ve added in an extra 500 calories to take me into maintenance rather than weight loss, and they seem to be doing the trick. Today I had a late breakfast of Greek yoghurt, raspberries and granola, didn’t fancy lunch then had chilli con carne, rice and avocado for dinner. An apple and a babybel as a snack.
Im currently at exactly the same weight as I was when I finished.
Good to have a thread to support each other in a no MJ maintenance!

SnacklessWonder · 28/10/2024 19:34

I've said before on another thread, my issues were mainly down to a really really bad diet.

Like Wednesday: Burger and chips, Thursday: Pizza, Friday: Cheesy Chips Saturday: Indian takeway Sunday: Roast dinner....washed down with many glasses of wine. And inbetween bags of crisps and bacon sarnies etc.

Literally just eating what I wanted without any thought. Then I realised for other people, it's more normal just to have one of those a week rather than all the food! So that's what I aim to do, healthy eating all week, save a 'treat' for a Saturday night or a roast dinner on a Sunday. I'll probably look forward to it more too!

Doggymummar · 28/10/2024 19:37

When I stopped it took me about six weeks for the food noise to come back and I gained ten pound in a month. This time I aim to do better.

eeeeeeeee · 28/10/2024 19:37

@SnacklessWonder oooo I can relate to this. Pre-MJ I was eating at restaurants and ordering in from fancy takeaways a lot. Wouldn’t be unheard of to get 2/3 deliveroos a week - it was like my primary source of food. I never cooked. If I wasn’t ordering in, I’d grab a ready meal or sandwiches. Sounds ridiculous written down. Looking back, I’m not surprised I became obese!

That’s okay!

I had a starting BMI of 29 and am now 24.5. I’d like to reduce this slightly but really want to do it myself to prove to myself I can do it.

Id probably like to lose another 3kg, so half a stone - I don’t want to drop another couple of BMI points necessarily as I feel I may look gaunt and unwell then. I think there’s a fine line between healthy and looking washed out and almost frail.

In terms of tapering, I did use the last pen to reduce from 12.5 to 6. Not strictly because I wanted to taper, but 12.5 was making me feel very unwell and that’s really what made my decision that I’ve been taking it for 6 months and it’s clearly doing something to my body as have had a sore tummy and stomach cramps quite often.
I have felt a whole lot better since reducing the amount but it’s not something I want to stay on long term.

I know I can lose weight as I have successfully done so before but it seemed insurmountable at the start, so I’ve had the head start I need and now I want to do the hard yards and complete the last half a stone without help.

If I’ll be able to do that remains to be seen….

I never got food noise pre MJ, so I’m hoping not to get it now! Like @SnacklessWonder i just ate too much of the wrong food.

That’s great to hear well done! Can I ask what your weight loss was whilst on MJ?

Im not sure why the ‘you’ll put it all back on when you stop’ is such a put off to people. Surely any diet you have been on will have the same result of putting back on what you have lost, if you go back to the same thing that made you put on the weight?!

Same! I mean looking back, I am like WTF? Why did I even think that was okay? And I was averaging 3000 steps a day.

I stopped weighing myself for about 18 months and that was definitely my downfall so I will continue weighing myself every day and if I see it starting to creep up by a few lbs I will work hard to knock them back off.

eeeeeeeee · 28/10/2024 19:44

Thank you for replying OP, your journey and determination is really inspiring! I have 4kg until I get to BMI 25, but I’m hoping to lose 13kg to get back to my previous weight. That’s like BMI 20/21 which was maintainable for me before. I hope, like you, I can just self-maintain it as I was able to do so before. I’m glad MJ gave you the head start to help you.

I agree. I know if I go back to eating how I did before I will put the weight back on, but I don’t intend to do that!
I started at 13 stone and am now 9 stone 12. Like you, my stomach didn’t feel great on MJ and I feel a lot better physically now I’m not taking it.

SnacklessWonder · 28/10/2024 19:45

I am actually finding being on MJ making it hard for me to healthy eat. I've gone right off all the healthy, higher-protein options. I am hoping when I come off that comes back!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/10/2024 19:46

A lot of it will be will power and mind over matter

I am surprised you stopped rather then Wien own doses

Same, my stomach was so delicate that I was craving stodgy carbs.

Absolutely, and I know this sounds silly but I can not tell you the joy I felt when the scales showed me in the next kg down.

I value that more than I do eating a multi pack of crisps so I’m hoping to keep that feeling at the forefront of my mind.

Also - the feeling of going clothes shopping and not dreading looking in the mirror trying something on. Honestly it’s made me feel so much better in myself and I want to hang on to that.

In terms of stopping, I don’t want the general fatigue and malaise anymore that I felt with MJ - I always intended to do 6 months to learn better eating habits and although I’ve only lost 2 stone I don’t honestly think I would have done that without the drug. I really worry about it’s interaction with other drugs, I am not taking prescribed anything and do not take anything but I always have that uneasy feeling about going to the doctor - the stomach pains are worrying me and I want to eliminate the MJ before I ask for it to be explored further.

I do feel I can manage more loss on my own, using everything I’ve learnt

I will be watching your thread. I also started mid April , have lost 3.5 stone starting weight 99kg now BMI 28. I was going to stop now , and still only using 5mg but I’m worried about weight gain and have decided to keep going for a bit longer with the idea of letting my body get used to the new weight ( and I plan to lose at least another 1/2 stone ) . My goal weight keeps dropping …
Thanks for sharing with us what it is like to come off MJ after 6 months .
