It's thread 22 time! As usual please fill up the previous thread before we make a start on this one.

Huge congratulations to every one who has made losses, and well done to those who have graduated the mounjaro club! We would love you to come back and share your tips for maintenance so we can all continue to learn and grow from each other.

Pointers for newbies:
Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)
Mumsnet does not allow promo codes. Please do not post any. If you want one, ask and someone will PM you a code or there are now threads on the promo page that have codes for Mounjaro link below:

Miss Mounjaro UK has the most up to date price comparison charts: https://www.missmounjarouk.com/

This one's the most recent I will also post the image.

Just to copy from the previous thread as it's highly useful information:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/cooling-resistant-starch#TOC_TITLE_HDR_6

MabelSpan:
For those who love their carbs, I grow my own veg, including lots of potatoes so eat them most days. You can dramatically increase the amount of resistant starch, a type of fibre, in your potatoes, rice and pasta and bread simply by cooking then cooling, ideally overnight or freezing in the case of bread and then reheating or toasting in the case of bread.

Please remember to do this safely if this is something you would like to do.

In light of being in close proximity to someone who has had complications from Mounjaro, I just want to say for any newbies: We are a wonderful community of Mounjaro users with a wealth of knowledge between us, but we're not a medical service. We are all people who have acknowledged the risk to benefit ratio, and are following our clinicians advice. If you do have any serious side effects listed on the information sheet that comes with your medication, please seek medical advice.

There are no questions too silly, no loss too small to celebrate, no hurdle not worth the challenge and huge congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in their journey and once again, welcome to thread 22.

What dose are you on @WitchyBits and what day of the week do you inject? If you are on a relatively high dose then you may be feeling very strong suppression on days 2-3 counterbalanced by eating more calories later in the week.

If you aren't eating enough over the week eg 7,000 calories over the week then, as you said, you should probably reduce the dose so you get hungrier. It's good that you have asked your husband to keep an eye on you.

It's very powerful to feel you can now control your weight when previously it felt out of control. But the most important reason for being able to control it is for our health and losing weight too fast is not healthy.

WitchyBits · 27/10/2024 09:05

@TheBoldHelper

I don't think I'm developing Anorexia but I can see how easily I could slip down that rabbit hole. I'm just advocating for myself by asking my husband for support. I know for a fact that if I came off the Jab I'd be fine and my appetite would come roaring back with the hunger of a thousand lions. In the past I've been able to low carb and lose 2 stone in 6 weeks but it's never been sustainable. The injection has made it much easier but I am aware that does put me at greater risk of veering into eating disorder territory. I've raised it with my DH today after I became aware of this as an issue yesterday so I know I'm on the right path and while I am a little concerned I don't think it's going to be a problem as he will check in with me and I will be honest with him.

@Choux currently taking around 6.25 mg a the constipation on 5 was horrific and I was very wary of going up to the full 7.5. At times I've had to self administer enemas as it was that bad. This has also led to a reduced appetite as I was just so full/bloated and then nervous about getting constipated again.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 27/10/2024 10:00

Ive really struggled this last week, I'm keeping in deficit but the food I'm having is junk. Protein nowhere near high enough.

I need to make a real effort this week to sort myself out. It is the time of year where I am drawn to carbs, but I can't let it consume me.

I did really well keeping on track last Autumn, but I think being unwell, hormonal, and knowing the clock's were about to go back as we finished for half term have just sent me under.

Focus for this week - up the water intake, up the protein, try and get outside every day.

I've only a few pounds to reach target and have given myself until the end of the year to get there, but right now it feels insurmountable. 😭

TheCatterall · 27/10/2024 10:14

@Paperwhite13 massive congratulations on your journey so far.

I’ve told a few close family members and I’m fine telling total strangers (like my nail tech and hair dresser and strangers in the shops…) but for some misplaced guilt I won’t be announcing it to the masses in social media as I think sub-consciously I feel like I’m cheating?

MontyJinks · 27/10/2024 11:45

Oh my goodness! Just hopped onto the scales after week 1 and I've lost 9lbs 😲 I realise this is week 1 and mainly water and from now on it will slow down greatly, and I have another 4 stone to lose, but, blimey, I'll take that as a welcome boost to my morale! Weirdly I seem to have lost some from my feet, they look 'bony' (well, like normal unswollen feet I'm guessing) 😂

I’m the same, I happily told my husband and daughter, I also told my hairdresser as she’s fab and non judgey, I’m also being honest with my good friends, but I’ve a couple who are very judgey and I’m in two minds, one is obese and I want to tell her as if she did it it would help her, but I also know she might attack and slag me off, she’s really judgey.

My husband thinks I shouldn’t tell her as the risk is high she will be unpleasant and have a go whenever we see each other, he is friends with her husband. But maybe if she asks I should. We also have another friend who has now lost several stones and I’m absolutely sure she’s been using th4 jabs and not saying so for the exact same reason. She knows there is a risk she will judge and slag her off.

she is going to wonder how all her mates suddenly able to diet and get to a healthy weight though,..

TheCatterall · 27/10/2024 12:09

@TheBoldHelper if your friend is so judgey - is it time to generally ‘downgrade’ the friendship?

Sometimes we grow as people, we change/age and some relationships no longer work for us. If I had someone I had to filter my life and feelings around so much - they wouldn’t be classed as a friend but an acquaintance that I sometimes bump into at other social events.

I think we often take or think we have to accept worse behaviour from friends then we would a partner. It’s a relationship at the end of the day and should be equal.

QueenOfHiraeth · 27/10/2024 12:19

I'm telling no-one other than immediate family and a couple of friends who I know will be OK with it (one is a clinician so understands the medication and the other is using MJ herself). My reasoning is that, if you tell someone and they are judgey or gossipy, you can't put the cat back in the bag!

I'm in a bit of a funk this week. I'm doing OK but my brain is undermining me so I have drunk gin and eaten things I shouldn't. I have this feeling of being a bit bleeeurghh and wondering why I am bothering. Going to try meal planning and see if I can add a bit of interest in case routine is affecting me

No, it’s part of a wider friendship circle and we e been friends for decades. She just has big issues round food and weight. And it would be problematic if I tried to fowngrade , as we all spend a lot of time together, and as said the men are friends too. I like everything else about her, I simply recognise when it comes to food and weight she’s got problems that come out in an unpleasant way,

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 27/10/2024 12:29

Given how quick she is to judge and slag of her friends, I would take great pleasure in the above, @TheCatterall!

Choux · 27/10/2024 12:32

@TheBoldHelper it's still early days for you. You are off to a great start but you don't know if you will get side effects or other issues that disrupt your journey.

As someone who has been taking it for almost 8 months now, my advice is to tell as few people as possible until people start noticing and then you can tell them you are dieting. Their reaction to that will possibly tell you if you should even consider telling them about the support you are getting from Mounjaro. A friend noticing that you are losing weight shines a spotlight on their own weight and can cause a variety of reactions. Not all of them will be happy for you.

Paperwhite13 · 27/10/2024 12:33

Thanks @Jimmyneutronsforehead and @TheCatterall!

I've told my husband, a close friend and some randoms like the woman who owns a soft play that I go to but I'm not really broadcasting it. Maybe that'll change once I'm at GW though..

Well done on a great first week @MontyJinks !

MelainesLaugh · 27/10/2024 19:52

Not sure if it’s because I’ve had some sort of horrible fluey lurgy this week, but goodness I’m suffering today!

I had my parents over for a Chinese takeaway and I could barely manage any. Since then I’ve been burping, feel nauseous and have an upset tum. It’s just not like me. I do suffer with IBS but that’s almost been in remission since I’ve been on MJ.

I did a 5mg dose yesterday, so I hope it’s just a combination of not really eating much the last few days due to the lurgy and my system resetting itself.

Thankfully they know I’m on MJ because my Dad is on it for his Diabetes which gave me the push to start or I think they’d have wondered what had come over me.

But on the positive side, 4lb more and I’ve lost two stone. DH has lost one stone. It’s incredible to think between us we’ve nearly lost three stone. That’s a small child!

Is there a way to thank people or like a comment via the app? I keep getting emails to say people have thanked me but I can't find out where or how.

Snozzlemaid · 28/10/2024 00:10

No, I don't think there is unfortunately. You have to log into website to do that as far as I know.

Do you mean thank people on mumsnet? There is a button just under this comment, one of the 6 blue buttons: quote, thanks, add post, share, report and bookmark. Clicking ‘thanks’ sends a thanks message to the poster.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 28/10/2024 06:53

@diian not on the app there isn't

DreamingofGinoclock · 28/10/2024 08:42

Hi all,

I don't post much but have been lurking in the background reading all your posts!

Went up to 7.5mg yesterday afternoon 3 5mg pens (did do a bridging dose of 6mg ISH with bonus dose last week) and have woken up meh and mildly nauseous 🤢 hoping it will pass soon

WitchyBits · 28/10/2024 10:49

Today I've managed a yogurt ( one of those old school six in a rectangular pack ) and some raspberries and blueberries. I've bought some hummus and Doritos to hopefully encourage a bit of grazing/snacking when I can't face even a small meal. I just feel so full all the time. I'm also going to extend my jab by a day or two to hopefully have an extra day to up my calories a little. I've audio got some protein milkshake powder and I'm to try and have one atleast every other day instead of my second coffee in the morning.

If you can drink your calories then when I have high suppression I sometimes have a ready to drink Huel shake ...they are supposedly a nutritionaly balance meal and about 400 cals

The standard ones are 25g of protein I think and the black ones 35g.

However I am trying to limit them when I don't have high suppression as I started to rely on them (didn't have to think about what food to make and easy when in a rush) as I don't think they are good for a long term solution if that makes sense ..

Mencia · 28/10/2024 11:27

4 stone down as of today (started mid April) and getting near 25 so quite happy!

Witchyandtwitchy · 28/10/2024 12:26

Started my first 5mg pen today.
Didnt get any liquid out when I tried to prime, so turned another couple of clicks and tried again. Only got a tiny bead of liquid on the tip, so tried again! Thought that must be it so turned the pen to 1 and injected.

The plunger moved down ok so assuming all is ok?

Didn’t lose anything this week, but I have lost a stone over the last 5wks, so hopefully this is just a pause, before things get going again.

Clothes feeling a lot looser and more comfortable.

It was mid June when I stumbled over the 'Continuing Mounjaro' threads, after never hearing about weight loss injections before. It was the disappearance of 'food noises' and amazing success that others were having that caught my interest. After a couple of weeks of lurking, I copied a discount code and ordered a pen.

My parents were both obese, and so was I as a child (14 stone 7 as a 17year old). Then I lost the weight and spent my adult life yo-yoing between 10 and 11.5 stone. My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in his 30s and had a quadruple heart by-pass at 52 (the age I am now), a leg amputation, total blindness and just about every other complication diabetes throws at you. He spent months in and out of hospital for years before he passed away. If only Mounjaro had been available for him...

Since lockdown I have put on 3 stone and hit an obese BMI. I knew I had to do something about it before 3 stone turned to 6 stone, and finding this thread and @ObsidianTree sage advice changed everything.

Today I hit my GOAL! I started on 28th June at 13 stone 4 (BMI 30), today I am 10stone 8 (BMI 23.9). I have lost 38lb (2 stone 10) in 18 weeks and could not be happier.

Sorry that the first photo is so awful (23rd June- exactly 4 months ago), but being at the cusp BMI of 30, I wanted to show that I really needed it!

Thank you for all the support the mumsnet community has provided. These threads really are changing lives.

Wow. Well done. Just seen your pic

You have a keg gap

Very envious of that !!

Eyesofmistyblue · 28/10/2024 14:37

Anyone else with zava and having issues with delivery? Usually they approve my order the day after I order then it’s received by Royal Mail the day after and delivered the day after that, but I ordered on Wednesday (approved on Thursday) and Royal Mail still haven’t received it. If I’ve ordered before on a Wednesday I’ve got it on Saturday…left it too late this month as sat is my injection day and now I’m still waiting and it’s been 3 days with no injection 😩😩 I have eaten loads. I’ll have put on a ton!

Weigh day for me. 3lb down this week which means I’ve officially lost 6 stone!!!!! 2lb away from my original goal weight which just seemed impossible when I started in March, it’s so close now I can feel it! I’m celebrating with cake (Halloween Colin the caterpillar) and then back on it tomorrow to get these last 2lb gone and a new goal set for Christmas :) thank you all so much for the help and advice, this group is the best!
