Starting Mounjaro today!

alinetokill · 07/09/2024 17:44

Myself and my husband have started Mounjaro today.
Making this thread incase anyone wants to join us as new starters today.
Me: 5ft 3 16st 3lb goal weight: 9.8
Husband: 6ft 3, 18st 3, goal weight: 12st
We are really hoping to see a good loss at the beginning, and interested to see what happens to us side effect wise.
Usually when one or other of us is on a diet we end up derailing each other, but we've decided to do this together.
Stocked up on protein shakes, loperamide, anti sickness and gaviscon in case of side effects!

Also once you had first dose are you storing pen in fridge ? Or elsewhere have seen conflicting advice for this.

I found it confusing.. but after reading lost.. fridge till you do 1st dose.. then anywhere under 30° for 30 days.. so still can get 5 goes put of it.. I put in in my bed side drawer..

DollyPop100 · 10/09/2024 21:22

Ah right so after opening and having first dose can keep out of fridge
5 doses thought each pen had 4 doses ?

alinetokill · 10/09/2024 21:26

Tuesday, day 3.
Been a bit of a weird one today.
I didn't eat until 12ish and ate because I had to. Some crackers, a chicken breast, cottage cheese and sun dried tomatoes.
Just had my dinner now, some spicy chicken soup from Waitrose with a small petit pan.
Was just pottering, making a cup of tea and thought "oh I fancy some chocolate". So I asked my husband to bring me in a single square. I put it in my mouth, then spat it straight back out, honestly it was vile. Like grainy, didn't actually taste of anything and all yukky.
Strange, when I used to be able to eat a sharing bar in one sitting.

@DollyPop100 there is 4 doses strictly speaking but there's always leftover medicine in the pen. It's equates to about a dose give or take. It's a shame to waste it so you can use it. It just means using the pen as usual but giving it a nice hard twist which will enable you to get that last bit

I eat relatively normally tbh. I've never had real appetite suppression but it clearly has done something for me! It makes it easy for me to not eat a load of shit. I tend to eat around 1400 calories a day and I'm quite active

I'm not concerned about prescribing going forward tbh. I'm with medexpress and they're indicated they'll keep prescribing for me plus I intend to try and come off it over the next few months

BatFacedGirlll · 10/09/2024 20:17

Good luck to you all!

It's so worth it. I started 5 months ago and have lost quite a bit. I started at almost 15 stone and I'm now 10 stone 6 so perhaps another half a stone or ten lbs to my target

I've attached a couple of pics to show that it really can make quite a decent difference

You look absolutely incredible.
If I can make the change that you have, I will be one happy lady.

BatFacedGirlll · 10/09/2024 21:54

@alinetokill well I wasn't a million miles away from your starting weight (15 stone) so it's honestly very doable.

The days just go by and I just eat food but not so much and I walk a bit and spin a bit and before I knew it ... I'm nearly 5 stone down.

It's honestly as easy as (and difficult?!) as that. I've never had appetite suppression really and I've never worked up the doses

I never believed I could be slim again. It's been 10 years! I was 10 stone when I got married a decade ago and gradually just put weight on until I reached a point where i lost faith in myself to do it again

BatFacedGirlll · 10/09/2024 21:54

@alinetokill and to have your husband doing it alongside you could be really useful for support!

I really hope so.
The last time I went spinning I nearly fell off the bike but I do need to get some exercise in.
Think I might start some walking or something...

@alinetokill I remember that polishing off galaxy sharing bar no problem ! That’s fantastic you didn’t feel like eating it.

I'm also finding I don't fancy anything sweet really @alinetokill. I can eat one or maybe two squares of very dark chocolate. I had some mango sorbet at the weekend from our favourite ice cream place - normally I'd want a double scoop cone of some fancy flavour, but I only had one scoop of sorbet in a cup.

I feel like MJ is helping me see what my body actually does and doesn't need, as opposed to my brain craving sugar because I'm tired, bored, restless, etc.

alinetokill · 11/09/2024 22:49

So today:
Didn't feel hungry at all.
Had a bottle of strawberry Kefir stuff about 3.
Then got busy with the kids clubs and stuff and felt absolutely ravenous by the time we'd got back at 7.
Dinner was M&S chunky lentil soup, chicken breast, cottage cheese and a petit pan.
Very full now.
I'm not really eating much, not sure what to do about that.... 😬😬😬

Cup of tea x2 and bed!

Well so far today I've had eggs and avocado and a bit of vegan chocolate. Normally id eat the whole bar. I then made myself have three rice cakes with peanut butter but could barely finish them.
Unfortunately I've been thinking about food all day but more in a curious way, because I'm trying to see if I'm hungry!

DollyPop100 · 12/09/2024 18:58

Totally get where you all
coming from.
breakfast half apple, blueberries half banana, flax seeds and dollop of fully fat Greek yog and dash of honey,
lunch half avocado, tomato’s and cucumber, small grilled chicken breast, 2 eggs and cottage cheese.
Feels like ate too much at lunch ( but don’t think did !) as had indigestion all afternoon and really can’t face any eve meal. So just going to go with it and not having anything else today.
trying to focus on protein when I do eat.
can see me getting sick of cottage cheese though ! Bought some nuts so going to add to protein list ! I felt like soup but non in so think might have to get to M&S @alinetokill that chunky lentil soup sounds lovely !
usually have lots of bread, bagels etc not had any.
Usually drink lots of water but haven’t today so need to make sure I do.

Yes that's correct.. I did dose 4 Wednesday, so going to try my bonus dose next week. I found the info from these threads here.. there is enough liquid, if not more , its for priming apparently.. but if you hard twist the pen round you get get an extra dose out.. there is a YouTube video on how. Or you can extract the liquid with a syringe. I'm going to give the hard twist a try. I'll let you know how I get on.

so When people are talking about bonus dose the pen lasts 5 weeks rather than 4 or do you mean last week you having a higher dose ? Also do you recommend which syringes / needles ?

Yes the pen last 5 weeks.. from what I've read and learnt if you use a syringe you can extract a little more that the 0.6ml which is the 2.5mg dose.. so in theory u can inject with 3 or 3.5mg. Getting ready for 5mg but I am going to go with the pen and needles and you twist then end as usual but it's just a bit stiffer to break the mechanism . The idea of syringes isn't for me, I would be scared I'm injecting wrong . So pop another needle on the pen and twist really hard and u will get another 2.5mg at least..

thanks @morbidcuriosity get it now, they only gave me 4 needles so will need to get some more myself. How are you getting on with meal choices ? Are you calorie counting ? Feel I am under eating but suppose that’s the point !

I just popped into a chemist and asked, got a box of 100 for about £8 . Think u can get off amazon too.. zava give u 8 needles (don't know why) my 2nd pen is zava. I found the first couple weeks I wasn't eating enough and felt a bit faint at times.. and that caused constipation.. but I just carry on eating my normal foods just less.. the good thing I've had no chocolate, crisps cake etc for nearly a month now, no desire to snack at all, have to think about food so therefore makong healthy choices.. . . Think I'm over 1 stone down in 4 weeks..

Ah right thanks for tip will get some. Ah well done sounds like you doing so well and what an incredible weight los in 4 weeks ! I seem to be around or just under 1000k daily trying to have protein and healthy stuff struggling to eat more than that.

Theredjellybean · 12/09/2024 20:58

Day 2...so far has half pot of yogurt and a coffee at 10 am, then had a cuppa soup at 4 pm.
Been out to wine bar... managed one small glass of wine and a few olives.
Not thought about food once, did enjoy my wine but usually would have had a bottle...very happy with small glass.
Now in bed and have a hummus and grains type bowl from sainsburys.. managed about 2/3 rd but feel so full.
I can see how this works it's incredible.
I was a big eater before but definitely liked my wine and would be by now very hungry.
Those saying " I'm not eating enough"... surely that's the point, these drugs help retrain your body about how many calories you actually need.
I'm going with plan of only eating when I'm actually hungry , I'm not going to force myself to eat

alinetokill · 12/09/2024 21:11

Today, day 5.
I had to face going out for lunch.
I had a coronation chicken salad and a latte but couldn't eat it all.

Then tonight just had a little bit (50g) of Boursin cheese and five crackers.

Also started taking a multivitamin today, had an electrolytes drink and some probiotics.

And I've downloaded nutracheck, it's a bit annoying as it only lets you set a max goal of 19% but never mind.

Husband and I deffo think we're both ready for the next injection... snacking is starting to kick in for him.

Few cups of tea, then bed!

Starting Mounjaro today!

As a concequence, I’ve been not hungry at all.
Only just eaten for the first time today.

I feel soooooo tired today.
But. I also weighed myself this morning and:
IVE LOST NINE BLOODY POUNDS!!!
NINE!!!!
And the best thing about it is, it’s not even been that hard!
Whoop.
Go go go 💪
