Starting Mounjaro today!

alinetokill · 07/09/2024 17:44

Myself and my husband have started Mounjaro today.
Making this thread incase anyone wants to join us as new starters today.
Me: 5ft 3 16st 3lb goal weight: 9.8
Husband: 6ft 3, 18st 3, goal weight: 12st
We are really hoping to see a good loss at the beginning, and interested to see what happens to us side effect wise.
Usually when one or other of us is on a diet we end up derailing each other, but we've decided to do this together.
Stocked up on protein shakes, loperamide, anti sickness and gaviscon in case of side effects!

I'm on my second week of MJ 2.5mg now. I don't particularly enjoy doing the injections, but it's working.

I've switched to a lower carb Mediterranean type diet, mostly following the guidance in the Blood Sugar Diet Food noise is pretty much all gone. I lost just over 1kg last week, which is fine. I'm not doing very low calorie dieting because I have an active lifestyle (gym, walking, looking after my animals) and I want this to be a change I can sustain not another crash diet so I'm happy with steady weight loss.

Good luck!

Nothing for breakfast but I never have. Cottage cheese for lunch and then a normal dinner, something like chorizo stew, roast chicken with salad, Thai green curry. The appetite suppression worked very well for me so portions for dinner have natural decreased. The biggest difference is I've been able to completely cut out the crap outside of meals.

That sounds good idea as it fasting then too which is suppose to have benefits, cottage cheese good for protein. Do you have the full fat one or the low fat ? Need to get some supplies thinking fruit and natural yogurt for lunch or eggs then like you proper evening meal.
I haven’t told anyone I am doing it as have tried for the last 8 months and nothing worked. Hit menopause think that hadn’t helped re. Weight gain.reached all time low re weight so understand comments re affecting mental health. Hoping I can lose the weight and get into good habits. I know someone who has recently lost lot of weight and she always struggled with weight think she has used it, she hasn’t said do but that nobody’s business.

I have the Longley Farm fat free cottage cheese for lunch, it's very tasty. I will often have a cooked chicken breast and some cucumber, on their own or with a little salad dressing as a snack and also to help keep the protein levels up. Evening meals I try and keep low carb. For example if I can't be bothered to cook, I might do us some frozen battered cod but serve with minted petis pois. The small changes that the medication has made so easy have really added up. I've also taken to ordering two starters when our for dinner rather than a starter and a main as I feel less pressure to eat beyond being satisfied.

Well done on your results. I would be happy with that too.
Totally agree and that’s what I am trying to achieve by steady weight loss whilst changing bad food choices. I am hoping to do similar lower carb and healthier options. I want it to be sustainable not just quick fix then gain it back. Hadn’t heard of ‘food noise’ phrase until joining this group but at least can put a name to what I experience. Great to get other peoples tips and experiences on here.

Good idea re the 2 starters it is easy to feel pressure re what you are eating from others.

I will definitely get some cottage cheese (I like the one with pineapple)
And some crackers too!

Okay so... I went to the supermarket for the shop. It was so weird, I didn't want anything.
I brought some soup, which I've just had with a roll and feel like I've eaten a 3 course meal and needed to lay down.
I'm a bit sulphuric today and literally have no thought about food at all.
I got lots of snack stuff for the kids, but thus far I have no cravings for myself.
I got two things of soup, some cooked chicken breast, some pouches of rice and dried noodles. Crackers, hummus, cucumber, olives, sun dried tomatoes, cottage cheese for hopefully a small picky plate later.
It's been very hard to meal plan, I have a suspicion my kids might live on pasta for this week until I get in the swing of things.

I tend to cook for the rest of the family as normal and then only have the protein and vegetables in a much smaller quantity than I normally would. I tend to not have any of the starchy carbs or very little. If that doesn't work for the meal I will just do a plate of salad with some kind of (vegetarian) protein, like goats cheese or hummus.

alinetokill · 09/09/2024 22:42

So... day erm 2?
I don't feel hungry, at all.
But sulphury at night and in the evening but that seems to settle. Trying to drink plenty of water too and tea always I cannot cope without it!
No idea what I'm supposed to be eating so going with high protein stuff and finding a balance with living.
Yesterday I had a mug of soup and a small bread roll and then a picky dinner of chicken, cottage cheese, pickles, crackers.
Today: a bowl of protein yoghurt and mango, then a salmon fish cake with 1/2 nest rice noodles.
Hope you're all getting along well.

Day 3 for me, first day at work where I usually stuff my face with carbs but I didn’t want to eat at all. Had soup at 7pm because I felt like I should eat something, completely lost the want for food.

Yesterday and today forced myself to have breakfast of apple, half banana, flax seeds, dollop of full fat bio yogurt and dash of honey. Enjoyed it and didn’t wolf it down as usual. Lunch was scrambled egg, cucumber, and cottage cheese low fat, eve meal slices of chicken breast with sweetcorn and 2 tiny potatos.,still low on calories but started at gym and think especially as menopausal want to try and have protein and get right nutrients could have quite easily not eaten but don’t want to starve myself and feel like changing my relationship with food and not guzzling it down and no snacking. Not really had any side effects how about anyone else ?

DollyPop100 · 10/09/2024 17:42

Also once you had first dose are you storing pen in fridge ? Or elsewhere have seen conflicting advice for this.

DollyPop100 · 10/09/2024 17:45

Going to make omelette for evening meal but really don’t feel like eating anything. It is very strange now I know how slim people’s mindset is feel, know some people that are not interested in food at all. Come from a family that have always been about having cake and food together so it feels good to change those habits. Went for a walk sibling last night instead.

You can store it in the fridge after you've started using it, but you don't have to. If it's not in the fridge, it needs to be kept at less than 30 degrees C. Not usually a problem in the UK! Either way, it then has a 30 day expiration from the date that you first used it.

Thanks Silenceinside. In the end couldn’t face eve meal so having 2 boiled eggs. Feeling free of food demons.

BatFacedGirlll · 10/09/2024 20:17

Good luck to you all!

It's so worth it. I started 5 months ago and have lost quite a bit. I started at almost 15 stone and I'm now 10 stone 6 so perhaps another half a stone or ten lbs to my target

I've attached a couple of pics to show that it really can make quite a decent difference

Starting Mounjaro today!
DollyPop100 · 10/09/2024 20:24

Looking good batfacedgirl well done.
Re doses did you go up to 5mg in 5th week ? Or did you stay at 2.5 for any length of time ?

Theredjellybean · 10/09/2024 20:30

I did first injection today at 3 pm
Cooked huge veggie curry and ate it all
Two normal size portions..wanted to keep going even though felt full . But now have dreadful stomach ache and feel enormous.
I'm already constipated so hopefully veggie curry will sort it out and going to have to use something...fybrogel drinks or maybe chai seeds every day.

BatFacedGirlll · 10/09/2024 20:30

@DollyPop100 I've been on 2.5 since the start. Too scared to go to 5mg as don't want to chance side effects as I've had none of note for the past 5 months!

However, I do decrease the days between taking my dose so it could be argued that I'm taking 5mg and splitting it across the week.

This is very much against dosing protocol but it works for me for now.

I'm (hopefully) getting to the end of the journey now so thoughts turning to how to actually come off it!

@BatFacedGirlll thanks wow ! That’s good to know, I feel apprehensive about the whole thing but if I can get into a healthy BMI that has to be better long term. Do you think you will struggle to get it prescribed once closer to your goal weight. Thinking they won’t if healthy BMI ?

DollyPop100 · 10/09/2024 21:00

@BatFacedGirlll what sort of food have you been eating ? Anything you recommend?
