Hi all,

I previously had gastric bypass surgery in 2020 and lost 15st. I did the surgery so I could get pregnant, and in 2023 I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. With the pregnancy I gained 7st 😵

So now, I'm looking to apply everything I learned with my surgery (high protein, low carb, chew for 1 min etc) to Mounjaro and hopefully lose this weight again.

Anyone with me?

Height is 5'6
Weight 20st 4lb

Goal 1: 15st
Goal 2: 12st

12st was the lowest I got down to before I became pregnant and that suited my body and my frame. I'm not sure I'll get down that low again, but I hope I will!

Would love some buddies on my journey :)

I'm feeling super nervous about having mine tomorrow. Any immediate effects like wind or bad tummy?

Hi

Can I join you? I am planning to do my first dose this evening.

Currently 17st12, 5ft 3

First goal 16st

Next goal probably 13st. Not exactly sylph like but I was relatively comfortable last time I made that and could maintain.

But even losing 1 chin would be good.

Absolutely! I feel you with the chin goal 😂

how are you planning on eating with this? I’m gonna go high protein low carb I think. Try and do 1200 cals a day too.

I think similar, or at least as low carb as I can. Menus in our house tend to be pretty carby so will be a bit of a challenge. But definitely determined to give this my best shot.

MamaBat · 21/07/2024 08:32

First jab done this morning!

Had a breakfast of greek yoghurt and blueberries. Did 1 minute between mouthfuls like I was doing when I first had my bypass and waited half an hour to have anything to drink after.

I've found that almost immediately after the jab I had a weird taste in my mouth and a dry mouth. Is that a thing or am I just getting a placebo?

Wt: 15 stone 4 Ht: 5 foot 9

NewMountJaroUser · 21/07/2024 14:24

Named changed for this as it’s too outing.

This is a great thread!!! Thank you. Second week in, 2.5 dosage and lost 1 kg last week. I weigh myself Fridays. ☺️

ACEwards · 21/07/2024 16:00

@MamaBat If it helps I did my first jab Thursday and normally suffer really bad IBS so was really worried about bloating and tummy pain. So far I've been fine which is very shocking as most things trigger pain and bloating for me :)

I've been a bit more groggy, and my appetite has decreased a lot!! I'm eating cos I need to, not because I want do - never in my life have I felt like this.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/07/2024 06:02

@MamaBat I'm in week 5 now and can reassure you that the thirst and horrid metallic mouth are very usual! I actually don't mind it as it makes me drink more water.

I would say that you don't need to take pauses between mouthfuls or wait to drink anything. I assume this is needed after bariatric surgery as your stomach is physically smaller but MJ works on your brain and your stomach to suppress your appetite. If it makes you feel more comfortable, then fine but you do not need to eat like that. Good luck on your journey😁

GlitteringUnicorn · 22/07/2024 07:00

Day 1 here

Oh boy the thirst!

electrongirl · 22/07/2024 08:15

No side effect for me so far - 2 days in - I had a bit of a headache the first day - don’t know if you have ever done keto but it was a little bit like that. Bit day 2 I was fine and felt suppression straight away - that might be placebo but that’s how it’s felt for me.

MamaBat · 22/07/2024 08:22

Morning all. So I weighed myself today because I find weighing every day keeps me on track (I know, not always the best thing to do but works for me!) and I've lost 3lbs in a day?!!

Now, I know this is bound to be water weight because every diet I've done always has an initial whoosh of weight in the first week and then it slows to steady fat burn, but I just thought it was nuts!

I was peeing literally alllll day yesterday so I'm 99% sure this is water. It may come back over the course of the week though, won't know my proper loss until I weigh on Sunday as that is my official weigh day.

How are we all?

Yeah I know it's not needed for Mounjaro but it's what worked for me post surgery as I do still have a tiny tummy, so I'm just trying to bring back all my old habits that got me to my lowest weight. Probably not needed you're right, but I guess it's like a comfort thing for me 😅

Yes I think the gross mouth is definitely gonna help me get to my water goals, you're right!

How are you feeling 5 weeks in?

That's amazing huge well done! Yes join us :) I weigh on Sundays but I think that may change to Friday, want to bring my jab day back to before the weekend so gonna do that gradually.

@MamaBat I am feeling fabulous! 😁

Have had a variety of side effects but nothing too awful - mouth and thirst are the only lasting ones but have had (tmi warning) a few days here and there of both diarrhoea and constipation. I have much more energy (although I've had bouts of complete exhaustion) and am generally up and out with the dogs before 7am. I am much more able to get stuff done but, best of all, I am currently 19lbs down in 4 weeks and 5 days! 🎉🎉🎉
Good luck on your journey!

Oreosareawful · 22/07/2024 11:52

Can I join you? I've just ordered my first pen with Voy. I've got just under 5 stone to lose x

HanarCantWearSweaters · 22/07/2024 12:20

Can I join? Took first dose last night. Bit similar to you OP in that I had bariatric surgery previously, a sleeve though, and life implosion during Covid really undid almost all of my progress. Hoping I can get back to the habits I had then if mounjaro takes away some of the noise.

TurtleNest · 22/07/2024 15:09

Can I join? I've been contemplating it for a while now, but I finally reached the end of my tether bit the bullet over the weekend and applied for Mounjaro. It's been approved and I've literally just had the message to say it's on the way.

My situation is that I've been struggling for years with adenomyosis and PMDD, and finally had a hysterectomy last year - in my early 40s. I was hoping that after recovering for surgery, getting onto HRT, rebuilding my iron levels and focusing on healthy eating, I'd finally be able to move back to a healthy BMI instead of just being in obese.

Unfortunately, what's actually happening is that I'm barely managing to hold steady on my weight, despite eating healthily and limiting myself to between 1000-1200 calories. (I'm petite and in a sedentary job, so it seems my calorie requirements are very, very low.)

I've turned to Mounjaro to see if it can give me the help I need to start moving the scales downwards, instead of fighting to stand still. I'm starting off at around 78kg, and want to get myself down to nearer 60kg. First goal is just to get under 70kg.

Is it naïve to hope that I might avoid some of the side effects because I'm already eating low calorie??

suspiciousmums · 22/07/2024 15:23

I’d love to join you! Ordered my first pen from Zava yesterday, submitted my photos this morning and waiting to hear if all is ok. So excited ti get started on this journey! I have also ordered an exercise bike and some clear protein and a shaker for when I start.

Joining in as a newbie, took my 1st injection this morning. Was very easy despite being sure I would cock it up.
I've had success in the past with intermittent fasting but life, menopause and boredom have set in and I'm now at least 3.5 stone overweight.

So far so good, no symptoms but also no suppression yet. I hope it kicks in soon.

I'm really struggling with the mouth thing.
Feels like I have chewed a metallic flavoured cotton wool ball. Most unpleasant.
It's so distracting is difficult to think of much else! Does it ease? I am wondering if some peppermint chewing gum might help. I have been drinking loads of water which isn't helping.
Definite suppression here though.
