Continuing Mounjaro...part 17

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! Make sure the needle is twisted on tightly. Priming will help confirm if the needle is on securely and not faulty.
2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!
3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/
4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.
5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.
6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.
7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.
8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.
9 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine
10 - Taking Mounjaro can stop birth control from being effective. If you are on birth control, consider extra protection if you aren't planning on conceiving anytime soon!
11 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.
12 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB
Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles
13 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.
Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods
14 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.
15 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.
16 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.
17 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site
In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618
18 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.
19 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

@PomchiK I use Chequp, they are a bit pricey but provide health coaching, nutritional advice and calls with medics if needed. They deliver by Royal Mail and insist on a signature.
If you look on Zava's own website in FAQs it says "When your order is dispatched, you will receive an email from our courier service with a tracking reference number which you can use to track the status of your order. All orders must be signed for on delivery, but someone else may sign for it on your behalf." so you could argue they are not following their own procedures
I don't think the GPhC would be happy with that!

Thank you. The missing pen was from Bolt. I am arguing with them and quoting the Consumer Rights Act and Royal Mails policy on multi occupancy buildings but getting nowhere at the moment. They just keep saying it was delivered and now should be a police matter, not theirs. I will send all the same info to PayPal and see who they side with. Not sure if theres an ombudsman I can complain to or trading standards. I will look into that if I still don't get anywhere, but it's just exhausting. If only I could stomach a glass on wine right now! 😆

Evening All

Have been catching up after a week's break from the threads - only lost 1kg before hitting another stall. Am on week 22 now I think, 8 weeks on 2.5mg (before I discovered the bonus dose), 9 weeks on 5mg (ordered day before 7.5mg became available), 5 weeks on 7.5mg and now moving up to 10mg.
Total loss so far is 11kg, only 1kg lost in the last 7 or so weeks. I had been waiting to buy clothes as was hoping to get down to a size 14 first (am om a large 14, small sixteen atm) down from an 18/20, but my sister is getting married and I needed a dress.
Ordered a gorgeous wrap dress from Phase Eight in a size 16 and it looks incredible on. Being a wrap dress I can really cinch it in at the waist I am now rocking for the first time in years. Am going to ask the photographers to take some photos of my family as am hopeful I'll actually look good in them.
Yes my losses these last couple of months have been glacial, but there's no doubt when I look in the mirror that I am shrinking, and I'm just so very pleased!
Am still paying off the credit card but this weightloss has been totally worth it so far. Hoping 10mg helps shift a fair bit more as am still obese, but BMI is down to 31 from 35 so definitely heading in tje right direction.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 25/07/2024 20:18

@ThirdStorm thanks for your reply. I'm still dithering about ordering :(

I tried on my old wedding dress today. I married my ex in 2008 (I think 🤷🏻‍♀️. I try my best to forget 😄) and never thought I'd ever fit in that dress again. Well not only does it go on, it's actually loose on the bust. Given I've lost 9 inches off my bust, I'm not surprised it's gappy 😓.
It was a 16 but had a fair bit of alteration. I was around a 12/14 then.

I also tried on a bridesmaid dress I wore for my mum's wedding a couple of years later and it's really big on me. I remember feeling shit while wearing it - it wasn't flattering or a particularly good fit. On eBay it goes!!

NewLifter · 25/07/2024 20:19

Surely medication needs signed for! I would be very unhappy if it was left on my doorstep and I live in a house in a very private area. They absolutely should have rang your bell just like they do for houses!!! Leaving that in a shared area is just ridiculous!!!!

Surely bolt send it out needing signed for???

AnnaDor · 25/07/2024 20:24

@PomchiK

You can complain here on the grounds that a child might have got hold of your prescription medication as it wasn't left anywhere safe/secure:

Reporting concerns | General Pharmaceutical Council (pharmacyregulation.org)

They also have a link on that page for who else you can complain to and that CAB might give you advice.

ICO: If someone opens the package they now know what you have been prescribed so your personal information is at risk.

I'd suggest you tell Bolt the plan that you will raise your concerns with these regulatory third parties if they continue to deny they are at fault with their choice of insecure delivery; as that might be enough to get them to act.

Reporting concerns | General Pharmaceutical Council

I hadn't even considered the signature as the postman always sign it themselves since covid but I can't see anything on their website that says this is the norm. Below is the page the tracking info takes me to. Mine and other parcels left at the main entrance and a scribble for a signature.

WoolyMammoth55 · 25/07/2024 22:20

Hi tribe! Congrats on all the losses (@3wDavid that's brilliant! Well done!)
I'm mostly checking in to drop give a heart-felt shout out to Voy who've been fab as usual with dispatching my 10mg pen early so it arrived before my holiday... I had so much to worry about getting the kids packed up and sorting work so I could really relax - it was so nice to just trust them to sort the pen delivery for me - and they did it. They're fab!
In general I really rate them: 121 coaching via calls and WhatsApp chat; once you have that set up you can ask your coach direct for anything you need (they sorted the change of pen dispatch date after I sent just one WhatsApp message to my coach - so convenient!).
There are also medics you can speak to at short notice if you have any concerns or side-effects - I've done this and found them GREAT.
They also package pens really well and ship them fast. I've had no issues with delivery at all, and am now 4 pens in.
There's an app to log your weight loss and a weekly email with motivation and mindset tips. It's a really top-notch service!
Personally I plan to stay with them because they're so good - but for newbies I would REALLY recommend them because their support service is really invaluable if you are new to this kind of medication, or if you have tried a lot of diets in the past (ME!) and are anxious about this one working...
So here's my code for £85 off your first pen from them: https://joinvoy.com/r/U-wW0jC2cWdY
I also get a discount if anyone uses it - but that's the other great thing about using Voy, because once you're with them you get your own code to share and then you get discounts on your next pens too! It's a great system and makes their excellent service also work out as very affordable...
Sorry for the late night code post but I'm also sending my best holiday wishes to everyone - I'm meant to weigh myself tomorrow but just realised there are no scales in the holiday apartment! So will just have to guess that I've lost LOADS this week and celebrate my efforts with a cheeky pedicure (since I don't much fancy a glass of pink wine!)😆

MountKilimounjaro · 25/07/2024 22:23

Thank you @MooFroo what's funny is that I hadn't realised you were quoting my post and as I read what you'd written I thought 'yep, I agree, 2 stone in 3 months is bloody brilliant'...goes to show that we're more supportive of others than ourselves!

I'm now at 2 stone 8 lbs down, inching slowly towards 3 stone lost.

I'm trying to focus less on weight and more on NSVs and eating to nourish my body. The weight loss will happen, I just need to worry less.

We're all dealing with an awful lot in a short space of time, it's no surprise we all have down days when it all feels a bit much.

SilverHeels · 26/07/2024 06:19

Morning.

weigh in today and I am 169.6lb so have got to my mini target of under 170. I have not been this weight for 5 years and not under 166 since my teens. My BMI is 30 so really hoping to get into the ‘overweight’ category in the next few days.

My looses have slowed but am moving up to 7.5 on Sunday. Have been away quite a lot and will have a couple of quieter weekends now so hoping to see a speedier shift of weight.

SW 197lb BMI 36
CW 169lb BMI 30

1st goal 166 my lowest weight as an adult
2nd goal 159
GW 139lb to take me into healthy BMI

loss since May 28lb. Taking this drug has been life changing and this thread has been so helpful. I am not a frequent poster but I read every day and really appreciate you all sharing this journey.

SilverHeels · 26/07/2024 06:23

I should add that I am delighted that I have been away, been to a big wedding, socialised a lot and had quite a few wines and still lost weight. Despite my losses slowing I have still lost weight and not felt deprived at all. Previously those weekends would have seen a 2-3 lb gain.

DragonflyRuby · 26/07/2024 06:49

My stall has shifted finally!! I’ve now hit the 2st mark since starting on 12th May. I’m really hoping to lose another stone which will get me to a healthy BMI and then I think I’ll decide from there if that’s my final goal. I’ve been lighter than that but it was pretty hard to maintain and I look very thin. Weirdly when I’m at BMI 25 I’m usually a size 10 and pretty happy!

Hoping the weight will drop a bit more consistently now. Anyone else in a stall, hold on - I was the same weight for 3 weeks!!

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 26/07/2024 07:08

Morning All

I tried my wedding dress on last night and it looks amazing on me! Granted I don't look as pretty in it as I did 2 decades ago when we got married but I'm pretty chuffed all the same. DH rather liked how I looked in it too!
Morning weight is 86.3kg so that's a 12kg loss since the start of my MJ journey as I'm on jab 23 today. Around 1lb loss per week on average so slow compared to many, but still a great result. For the first time in forever my BMI is under 31 (just!). BMI sub 30 is in sight, I've just taken my first 10mg from the bonus 7.5 dose.
When I first started this journey I just wanted to shift the weight asap as it's so expensive, but 5 months in I have accepted I'm just not a super responder and I need to give it time. I know it's a luxury to afford this, and I cant really as it's still going on credit cards and we have no savings, but the difference MJ is making is for me totally worth it. It does mean no family holiday this year again, but the kids will benefit from a healthier happier Mum and it's time I put myself first for a change.
I have also treated myself to some hideously expensive (Elemis) toiletries and started a more luxurious skin/self care routine (haven't told DH how much that's cost me - he'd definitely wince!) - oh and a pair of sparkly flip flips from Primark for £6 😆

Morning everyone, I remember people talking about half size scales to take on holiday, but I've searched and can't find it. Can anyone recommend theirs, please? I am so scared of coming back half a stone heavier - especially as my weight loss is quite slow already!

NextPrimeMinister · 26/07/2024 08:02

Morning All, week 20+ (am loosing count but started March).

2lb off on first week of 10mg.
3 stone and 2lb off.

SW 13.12
TW 10.10
BMI 26.6

I'm in danger of hitting my wedding weight from 16 years ago, and have passed my pre first child weight. 😅

Unbelievable stuff.

I start a week AI holiday today, and have taken my 7.5mg bonus dose. (.8ml so a decent amount).

Prepare yourselves for my whining when I come back heavier.

@Thebaldprimadonna we continue to track very closely, twinnie! Congratulations on the 10s!!

ItsAlrightDarling · 26/07/2024 08:06

I’ve been back from our 2 week holiday in Spain for 3 days now, and am back at the weight I was the day we left which I’m really pleased about. Can start concentrating on losing again now! The MedExpress pen I ordered on Monday evening is scheduled to be delivered today.

ThirdStorm · 26/07/2024 08:19

MedExpress are taking a while to process aren't they! Must be that discount for new joiners plus price matching is making them quite busy. I wish they would remove their countdown clock as it is still saying "order within 7 hrs for delivery tomorrow"! I ordered Wednesday evening and my prescription hasn't been approved, the last 5 orders have been done within 24 hours so I can't help but be frustrated but hey ho.

You're getting so close now to a healthy BMI. I find the past few months quite mind boggling, but in a good way.

Have an amazing holiday ☀️

My daughter saw these online, and I was tempted but money very tight just now. I won't be surprised if you she brings a set in with her on the next hospital visit!

They seem exactly the same as the usual Renpho scales, but half the size. Very handy for a hospital bag....

Although, if @MelissaLouRocks or anyone else has Renpho scales, do you get on ok with them? I've avoided them so far because I'm scared of knowing my body fat percentage. I once went for a gym health check thing where they said it was something awful like 60%. Though I'm not sure how accurate that was because he also said my visceral fat was lower than his (the gym trainer) so that seems unlikely 🤣.

I am currently with Asda. They have been amazing but worried about maintenance.

Any suggestions on a perfect supplier? Not med express as I do like next day delivery not delays.

  1. Is possible to get in maintenance.
2.Uses DPD,royal mail is unreliable around here.
  1. Has good discounts and 10mg is less than £200.

Am I dreaming? Asda is great it is such a shame.
