Continuing Mounjaro...part 17

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! Make sure the needle is twisted on tightly. Priming will help confirm if the needle is on securely and not faulty.
2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!
3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/
4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.
5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.
6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.
7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.
8 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.
9 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine
10 - Taking Mounjaro can stop birth control from being effective. If you are on birth control, consider extra protection if you aren't planning on conceiving anytime soon!
11 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.
12 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB
Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles
13 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.
Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods
14 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.
15 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Try and drink at least 2ltrs a day.
16 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.
17 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site
In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618
18 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.
19 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.
20 - Some of the places you can order from are:

I also think Zava are that useless that I could probably not order another pen for a few months and they will still approve my order when I eventually do order.

I might test that theory and if they do reject me I will move to bolt or back to med express. Only staying with them as I have a few 15% off coupons to use still.

Thanks- I've just used your code to get started! Would be grateful for a sequence just to get going. Resistance bands, 1 and 2kg dumbells and a 6 kg kettlebell at home. All mostly aspirational/opportunity purchases so in need of some direction!

BlackFriYay · 25/07/2024 10:52

Well done on your losses and NSV's 😊

I'm appalled about Royal Mail leaving the parcel at the door of the building and neither them or Bolt taking responsibility for it, I would be absolutely furious. That's so much money down the drain. Would Bolt not replace the pen, Pomchi?

I'm sorry that happened 😔

I've had royal mail deliver my MJ box to my (flat) door every time. Our postie is a lovely man and if its technically not their policy to do so then I owe him an extra big thanks.

Time4changeagain · 25/07/2024 11:01

@PomchiK Im sure it is bolts responsibility to make sure you receive the goods you ordered from them. You should contact your bank and ask them to reverse the transaction and get your money back via chargeback

ObsidianTree · 25/07/2024 11:02

Zava replied about expiry dates. Apparently they haven't heard about the extension of expiry apart from 2.5mg. See below. I will see what Eli lilly report back and update!

"The expiry date extension we are currently aware of from our pharmacies applies only to specific batches of the Mounjaro Kwikpen 2.5mg strength. See notice here:cpe.org.uk/our-news/mounjaro%E2%96%BC-tirzepatide-2-5-mg-kwikpen-shelf-life-extension/

We therefore advise that the expiry date written on the products you have received for the other strengths is what applies. If you begin to use these pens then you should complete use within 30 days from that date as per the medication leaflet. And in all cases complete use by the expiry date written on the product."

@BlackFriYay @Time4changeagain

I am not happy but it doesn't appear there is any more I can do.
Bolts' latest reply "Hello, As the parcel was delivered inside the building, this is considered a successful delivery. After speaking to Royal Mail they have advised that they do not deliver to individual flats inside multio-ccupancy buildings and only deliver to the building itself after which the obligation is met. As the parcel went missing after delivery inside the building it is considered theft from your posession and should be reported to the police.

My reply to them
"The Royal Mail website says "We deliver to individual addresses if certain criteria are met, or to a suitable central point such as a reception /mail room/ external lockable letter boxes in multi-occupied buildings. If you have an item that needs to be signed for this may, depending on existing arrangements/access, be delivered to your address to get the signature, not left at the central point."
Our criteria: Each residence is a self-contained property and is separately rated for council tax purposes. Each residence has its own unique delivery point that is clearly identified as a letter box for an address (e.g. numbered, lettered or named), or a secure, lockable box that corresponds to an address within the building. The residence is a permanent structure. The postperson can gain access to the building to perform delivery to each individual residence.

My residence is a self contained flat that I pay individual council tax for so the parcel should not have been left at the main entrance according to their own criteria."

I'm not very hopeful that they will replace or refund. The above messages are via the PayPal dispute centre as I had the same response emailing them directly. This is the 1st time in 10 years this has happened so I'm guessing my regular postie was on leave as he normally knocks on my door. I worked from home all day, they didn't even buzz to say they were leaving a parcel at the main entrance 😡

Choux · 25/07/2024 11:41

@PomchiK sounds like the parcel was lost because of a stand in postman. I would complain to Royal Mail that you were in and the postman did not attempt a delivery to the flat and so a high value parcel went missing.

Time4changeagain · 25/07/2024 11:42

@PomchiK
It should definitely be bolt chasing Royal Mail, it was not received/signed for by you. As you say Royal Mail have not provided the service that bolt paid for according to their own criteria & you have had no problems in the past. If PayPal don’t find in your favour I would still go through my bank and claim a chargeback

Choux · 25/07/2024 11:43

Sorry just seen that RM think a delivery to the block is sufficient. Is there an option with any supplier to get a signed for delivery?

CiderJabs · 25/07/2024 11:52

@freemyboobs thank you for using my code. Let me know what you think of the shakes!

For a sequence:

  • start with warm up for about 2/3 min. Only body weight. Jog on the spot - 5 squats - jog on the spot - 5 side lunges (one leg bent and one leg straight) - jog on the spot - 5 side lunges to the other side. Repeat twice.

Main workout: start with 2 rounds of 5 reps for each exercise. Increase gradually as you feel able to (you will probably increase at different pace for each exercise and that's ok). Go up like this:

  • 2 x 5
  • 2 x 10
  • 3 x 5
  • 3 x 10
  • 3 x 15

Lower body:

  • squats (start with body weight only and hold dumbbells on the sides when you feel able to)
  • side lunges left
  • side lunges right
  • front lunges alternating legs

Upper body/

  • light dumbbells bicep curls (elbows next to your ribs, hands under weights and move upper part of your body)
  • light / medium dumbbells triceps kick backs (legs slightly bent, elbow next to ribs, move arm back and forth)
  • kettlebell swings

Core:

  • sit ups (or crunches if not able to go all the way to the top). If there is anyone who can help you, ask them to step over your feet as that helps. Alternatively try to tuck your feet under a sofa.
  • lie down with legs slightly bent and pulse your bum up and down (like a bridge)
  • lie down and have both legs up and move them as if you were cycling. Keep your head on the floor for easier or lift your head for harder.

Make sure you stretch for 2/3 min at the end.

Let me know how you get on!!!!

ItsAlrightDarling · 25/07/2024 11:54

So after my email from MedExpress re delays, I’ve just had an email to say my order has been dispatched. I ordered on Monday evening so not too bad really.

PomchiK · 25/07/2024 11:55

@Time4changeagain @Choux
I completed a complaints form on the Royal Mail website on Friday (19th) morning but still haven't heard anything back. I quoted consumer rights to both Bolt and Royal Mail. Bolt just keep saying RM won't accept liability so they can't do anything and Royal Mail are bloody useless. I won't hold my breath but will continue to fight through PayPal, the bank say to try them as the payment went through them. I'm being pushed from pillar to post and not getting anywhere fast. If Oushk use DPD I may switch to them and may get things delivered to my mum's, she's retired so usually home. I may have to think up a lie for the cold package if I do that 😂

Time4changeagain · 25/07/2024 12:12

@PomchiK what a nightmare! Did you get a complaint reference number? You could try calling them and chasing up the complaint. What proof have bolt got that your parcel “was delivered”
Tell her it’s your pets medication 😂

butterfly0404 · 25/07/2024 12:19

PomchiK · 25/07/2024 09:00

Does anybody know of a supplier who do not use Royal Mail? My parcel from Bolt went missing, Royal Mail say they don't deliver to the doorstep in blocks of flats, only to the building, therefore neither Bolt or Royal Mail will take responsibility and I'm down £180! Would prefer a supplier who also supports maintenance.

Simple Online Pharmacy use overnight courier, my first pen arrived super cold. They arent the cheapest but definitely more efficient and speedy than Zava

PomchiK · 25/07/2024 12:35

They have a photo from Royal Mail of it at the main entrance 🙄 I'm sure Royal Mail did email a ref so will call tomorrow.

@butterfly0404 I will look into them too, next day delivery is handy as I can order Thursday so it's delivered on a Friday when I work from home or on the Saturday when I'm not working.

Moanranger · 25/07/2024 12:50

@PomchiK I get mine via HealthExpress RM 24 hour guaranteed & signed for delivery. It always arrives. There are various levels ( and costs!) for RM delivery services & I suspect Bolt goes for the cheapest option. The one HealthExpress uses means if no one is into sign, it goes back to the depot. So either RM did indeed screw up or Bolt is cutting corners on delivery.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 25/07/2024 13:08

So, after all of my dithering I have ordered my first pen!

I ordered from Voy using a discount code from @TheShellBeach

I caved and weighed myself this morning - in kgs as several pp suggested - the figure means very little to me and I am determined not to convert it to stones.

I now can't wait to get started on my Mounjaro weight loss journey!!

Expiry date for 5mg Mounjaro hasn't been extended

I've just had a live chat with Eli Lilly and they have confirmed that the expiry date of the pen I received from Med Express hasn't been extended - which is quite bad of Med Express!

I've asked for my posts to be removed as I couldn't edit them and I don't want anyone to see them and think that stockpiling 5mg to July 2025 might be okay.

@PomchiK

they are trying it on, unless you’ve nominated your doorstep as a safe place you are covered under section 29 Consumer Rights Act 2015 means that the seller remains legally liable for the goods until they are delivered into your physical possession, or that of somebody you have nominated for delivery. (Assuming the carrier was selected by the seller). A photograph of a parcel on a doorstep does not satisfy this requirement.

don’t give up until you either get a replacement or your money back

Thank you. I have said this to Bolt but they've just said RM consider it delivered as per their policy. I am still fighting, I have up until 7th August to escalate further with PayPal so if the next reply from Bolt is the same, I will be escalating with your above quote and the one from RM's own website regarding their criteria of multi occupancy delivery
