Continuing Mounjaro...part 15

ObsidianTree · 28/06/2024 16:44

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - The move up from 2.5mg to 5mg can be quite a shock to the system. Some people chose to take 3.75mg dosage for a few weeks to ease the transition.

9 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

10 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

11 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

12 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB
Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

13 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.
Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

14 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

15 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

16 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

17 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site
In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

18 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

19 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

21- You will still be prescribed Mounjaro when your BMI falls below 30. However, it may be harder to move suppliers once you BMI is below 30 if you wanted to move.

22 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.
The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years

Sorry to lower the tone but has anybody else noticed their baps heading down south?

They weren't amazing to begin with after 4 pregnancies but fucking hell after losing 3 stone... 😵‍💫 #flatlined #deflated

Yes!

I feel like I've lost most of the weight between my neck and waist. Belly and hips definitely smaller than before but as someone said on the last thread I'm not the same shape I was last time I was this weight.

Boobs actually flap about now and I'm only 37. They were never great but Confused

I would consider a tummy tuck in a couple of years if I manage to maintain. The only thing stopping me from sorting boobs too is that implants can cause lots of dramas/need to be replaced every decade.

dmott · 28/06/2024 22:38

GreyFinch · 28/06/2024 20:13

Adding onto the conversation on the last thread regarding clothes sizes.. I think clothes sizes are so triggering for fat people! In my irrational mind a size 8 or 10 is what you are when you’re skinny and when I just read other people my height (5ft8) being 11st but still being in a size 14/16 I had the thought ‘what’s the point’ (in MJ) as that’s still plus size. And to get to 11st I will have lost 8+stone in total to only be in a size 14/16?!

I’m in a size 22 still now at 17st8 and whenever I thought about being skinny I imagined myself fitting into these tiny size 8 clothes. The conversation I read has really made me sit and have a word with myself about why my brain automatically went to making into a negative. Why is being a size 14/16 a bad thing?

I’ve realised that this is something that has been pushed on young girls and really women of all ages through clothes websites, magazines and tv. Not to mention clothes sizes being different in each shop and lack of plus sizes in high street stores. I always felt shame going into a shop and having to look at the very back of the stand for the biggest size only to realise a size 18 was the biggest.

Yes 11st May be a size 14 but I will still be 8 stone lighter! I’m finding that MJ is allowing me to be more patient with myself and a lot more rational. As this mindset has been one which has made dieting be unsuccessful for so many years and get to the ‘fuck it’ stage after a few weeks.

this thread is so encouraging, helpful and motivating, even to hear others struggles and battles and to finally know we’re not alone in these thoughts. Life hasn’t been fair to me and it certainly hasn’t been for some on here from what I’ve read but I’m so proud of myself and you all for taking this plunge in doing something kind for ourselves after so many years of being hurtful to ourselves

sorry for the long message and just feeling particularly reflective tonight

I understand your feelings.

Though there's a glimmer of hope 7 years ago I at 5ft8 was 11stone and wore a 10on top and 12 on bottom comfortably

Stickthatupyourdojo · 28/06/2024 22:07

@BlackFriYay 😂 very true. I'm going to get some m&s shape wear I think. Some industrial bolstering.

If you don't want to splash out on the pricey stuff until you finish losing weight I can reccomend the primark shape wear for a fraction of the price in the short term, and industrial strength it is 😂

I hear you friend.

I'm 30 and I'd bet my savings on there being octogenarians with less flap than I'm rocking right now.

I'm looking into a TT and breast lift. I don't want implants either.

As soon as I come off the MJ and maintain for 6mo or so I'll be throwing every spare penny at funding it. There's a clinic in Lithuania called Nordesthetics which seems really good, based on limited research so far admittedly, and the prices are very reasonable.

Hello fellow saggy boobs owners 🤣

Hey all. Having issues getting in contact with Superdrug after getting approved for mounjaro online. On my royal mail tracking it says they sent it next day delivery on Monday, but no further updates since then. Does this mean it’s unusable now if they sent out Monday as it’s meant to be cooled? I’ve tried emailing and calling Superdrug but it’s impossible to get through.

anyone else you would recommend? And anyone else had issues with Superdrug? It was my first dose and a lot of money for me, so feeling stressed about it.

Also a big thanks to everyone’s knowledge on this, I’ve learnt so much from these threads in terms of how to prepare and what to expect. Now all I need is the bloody injections 😂

FlappyFish · 28/06/2024 22:50

Checking in to the saggy tits club.

36G to 34DD and I’ve lost all volume at the top. They look fine in a balcony bra. Unrestrained they look like a ski slope.

Stickthatupyourdojo · 28/06/2024 22:57

@BlackFriYay oooh fab thanks I'll give primary a whirl next time im nearby. @FlappyFish urgh that's what mine are like! Lost it all at the top. 34g to probably a 32e or similar I think. Sigh.

Also, has anyone experienced drinking whilst on mounjaro? I have a hen do coming up and wondered if anyone’s had any adverse effects!

Wallywobbles · 28/06/2024 23:14

Has anyone here tried Ozempic and only lost a small amount despite no alcohol and smaller portions? And then gone on to a success with MJ?

No specific advice on Superdrug, but I would have surely hoped it would be with you by now! Most companies that use Royal Mail have it on next day delivery and it arrives with a cool pack.

If you don't end up with any joy on this then you could start with Voy - they have never failed me. More expensive but there is a £80 or. £85 off discount code for your first order and then you can switch to a cheaper provider. Let me know if you want this code.

No idea about super drug, but you should be able to track on the Royal Mail app?

This should show you it's journey i.e when royal mail received what sorting offices it has been to etc.

Did super drug tell you when they dispatched? They may have approved on Monday but not dispatched that day.

Also I find often people say they have dispatched something but what they really mean is it is scanned into they royal mail system and they haven't physically sent it yet.

I’ve lost 6llbs in two weeks.

Has anybody experimented with where to inject for less symptoms? I’ve been injecting in tummy but got some
palpitations overnight last week which woke me up and was a bit disconcerting but went away after a while and was okay in the morning. I’m due to take injection tonight but feeling nervous, thinking of maybe injecting somewhere else and seeing if it helps.

There's a link at the start of the thread about injection sites. The thigh is the slowest absorption area.

Yes. I'm getting smaller but flabbier/wobblier. I know I need to do some resistance training but have been so preoccupied with MJ and my diet that I haven't gotten around to starting a new routine of exercise as well. A poor excuse I know but in my defence MJ has knocked me sideways as far as tiredness goes.

Seems to be a well known fact that for many alcohol and MJ aren't a good combination. I would test it out by having a glass of something and see how it affects you rather than wait until the hen weekend where you might have several drinks all together.

I'm only on week 3 of 2.5 but have been drinking, probably a bit more cautiously, but have been fine. Although I have read plenty of others it's adversely affected. I started with a few glasses at home to test it out first, but had a few cocktails and a couple of beers last Saturday and no adverse effects.. yet. When I move up to 5 I'll test it out again slowly. It's summer and I love a beer garden in the sun and have a few events over the next couple of months so hoping it won't change too much 🤞🤞

thisbetheverse · 29/06/2024 07:15

@DreamingofGinoclock @summerlovingvibes thanks both, the Royal Mail link says that the sender said they’d sent the package Monday, but that they haven’t received it yet so must have created the label and not sent! A code would be amazing - I’ll give them a few more days and then let you know! They are one of the more expensive ones which I thought was down to the additional ‘support’ but you can’t get through to anyone so think it’s probably better to move providers.

Lastchancefatty · 29/06/2024 07:15

Hi all

Busy week at work so not been active here. I've had my week 2 weigh in and I'm down 10lb so I'm thrilled!

SW - 311 lb
CW - 301 lb

I ordered my 5mg pen from ZAVA as I needed to try to coordinate the day of delivery and they have not sent it, they've bunged me on hold. So my advice for anyone using them after the first order (they were lightning fast on that one) is order early and don't expect the same service second time around.

TerfTalking · 29/06/2024 07:23

Starting Week 3, two full weeks on MJ completed.

Height 5ft 4"
SW 13st 3lbs
CW 12st 9lbs
GW 9st 7lbs

Exercising as normal, I do try to do at least 10,500 steps and 5 miles, but this is my usual activity so I haven't upped it.

So far all good. Jab on a Friday evening, appetite suppressed well until Thursday afternoon, seem to feel slightly nauseous as though I have eaten to the point of feeling sick on a Saturday, then pretty much plain sailing for the rest of the week.

8 pounds down, so happy with that. I did order the next pen up in 5mg but I'm regretting not getting another 2.5mg now as it is working so well. I therefore intend to do 30 clicks when I start that pen. I've bought spare needles.

Loving everyone's updates. Fabulous thread, thank you.

ThirdStorm · 29/06/2024 07:40

@BlackFriYay i have just noticed I’m a little flatter, lost volume definitely. But my overhang is slowly shrinking as I lose!

ThirdStorm · 29/06/2024 07:42

@thisbetheverse no issues drinking but I’ve pretty much been off alcohol, just haven’t fancied anything. I was on holiday recently so I had a glass or two every day but that’s been it. I’m out at an event tonight so I’ll have a glass of something but I’m not going crazy.

ThirdStorm · 29/06/2024 07:43

I just did my 5th dose, as I was twisting it with my pliers I managed to shake out some of the liquid! Felt like a lot although there was still plenty to plunge out. Should I have twisted then put the needle on?!
