Continuing Mounjaro...part 15

Please note: Mounjaro will only be be prescribed initially if your BMI is above 30. If you have additional health conditions you can get the medication with a BMI 27. (Prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart problems)

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
https://glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after that a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Some people find that they don't need to go up a pen dose each month if the current pen dosage is working well for them. If you are unsure when to go up, speak to your prescriber.

8 - The move up from 2.5mg to 5mg can be quite a shock to the system. Some people chose to take 3.75mg dosage for a few weeks to ease the transition.

9 - If you are having bad side effects after titrating up or you are struggling to eat your calories each day, your dose may be too high so should consider lowering your dose. Speak to your prescriber if unsure.

10 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

11 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

12 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. https://www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB
Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
https://medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

13 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss.
Some natural sources of protein:
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

14 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), psylum husks(fibre for constipation), electrolytes.

15 - Drink lots of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

16 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

17 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site
In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

18 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

19 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

21- You will still be prescribed Mounjaro when your BMI falls below 30. However, it may be harder to move suppliers once you BMI is below 30 if you wanted to move.

22 - Worried about your supply being cut off when you get to a healthy BMI? Below is some info on some places maintenance plans.
The Family chemist :Would consult you as approached healthy BMI to discuss maintenance under close supervision(if you started with family chemist)
Curate: up to 2 years
Cloud: up to 2 years
Boots: Cut off at BMI 23
Asda: Cut off at a healthy BMI
Pharmacy2u: Will supply for maintenance
Bolt:Individual assessment once BMI 22 and does offer maintenance

@Flower79 thats so disappointing. Is it worth a quick phone call? their lines open at 9am. Just to see if there is a quick resolution. Any new supplier will take longer. I hear such good things with oushk - if you order I’d email them with the back story as they might expediate for you given your predicament.

Just for this week I’m changing my WI to tomorrow from today. I weigh less after I’ve slept for more than two hours 😂 an unplanned election result all nighter so this will be a real MJ test for me because when I’m this tired I usually eat myself awake

I pulled an all nighter too. I feel terrible and very hungry this morning!

spottydogsarethebest · 05/07/2024 09:00

Weigh day for me, and I've lost 16lbs in 4 weeks. Over the moon. 😊

Cerialkiller · 05/07/2024 09:04

Weigh in day for me and jab...11.. I think. Working my way up to 7.5 so my second dose of 6.25. 50 clicks.

Weight loss of 2lb which im happy with. 23.5lb in ten weeks. It should really have been more but I've been ill and taking codene which I think has really exacerbated my constipation. My magnesium and coffee routine isn't doing it. Does anyone have any remedies that are both keto and don't involve more drugs/medication? I'm reluctant to eat more fiber in case it just bungs me up even more.

Sw 196
Cw 172.5

Mini goals
1, get into 12stone bracket - done
2, get to pre DD weight (12st 7) - done
3, get to pre DD weight (12st)

4, get to healthy BMI (11st 5)
5, goal weight 11stone
6, get to dream goal 10st 7.

ThirdStorm · 05/07/2024 09:24

@Cerialkiller i love the mini goals! I did the same, so much more motivational!

Stickthatupyourdojo · 05/07/2024 10:02

NSV for me is I just discovered my "hidden" photo album on my phone. I have hardly any photos of me at my biggest as I basically hid from the camera. Turns out almost 3 years ago exactly I took some (only 3) photos of myself and locked them away as weight loss motivation and forgot about them. That has been a revelation as the only photos I kept in my normal album were basically flattering angles and clothes whereas these are in a typical day to day outfit, not sucking in or posing or hiding behind something and the difference to what I see in the mirror now is undeniably stark. I still have the top I'm wearing in them so I'm going to do a comparison photo later.

My BMI has gone from 33 to 25.1. Half a pound away from the green zone.

I ordered on with MedExpress on the 27 June and they emailed me asking if I wanted the 7.5 instead of the 5 as this was my second order of 5 with them. I responded straight away saying I wanted to stick to 5 and heard nothing back. I chased the order last night as Friday is my injection date and I still haven’t had it. I got an email today rejecting my order and the reason was I didn’t send a selfie. I was so confused as I was wasn’t asked for one (maybe as it was my second order) there were no emails aalb me for further info other than if I wanted the 5 or 7.5 so I found it so odd they rejected it based on me not submitting info I wasn’t aaked for!! I will know have try and get the 5th dose out the pens and try and find another supplier!!

Weird, I ordered my second 5mg pen from them last week and it was approved and dispatched within 24 hours. Sounds like someone there has made an error.

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 05/07/2024 10:12

I ordered my 7.5 yesterday morning from MedExpress and it's still stuck on awaiting prescription. Bit concerned it's going to end up taking all weekend to get here and warming up. I don't want to start it yet, I ordered early because I'm going on holiday.

ObsidianTree · 05/07/2024 10:36

Well done for all the losses from the last few days

After saying I woke up ravenous ...I have had a few hot drinks and forgotten to have breakfast (I know I know not good but work / life happend) ...MJ is crazy staving when I woke up and now not hungry at all to the extent I forgot breakfast 🙈

ThirdStorm · 05/07/2024 11:24

@DreamingofGinoclock i never eat breakfast! I don’t buy into this most important meal of the day. I eat two meals - lunch and dinner. Works for me.

Your still in time for delivery tomorrow with MedExpress. Assuming it’s a reorder my experience has been they generally approve the prescription the morning after order. Fingers crossed.

Weekly weigh in stats:

Starting weight 15st 11lb 8oz
Last week's weight 11st 11lb
Today's weight 11st 9lb 4oz

Not much of a loss but TOTM started 4 days early last night.

Loss to date is 26.3% of my starting weight.

Out for the day today and I had trouble finding clothes that fit. Ended up having to find some size 14 tight jeans and take a top off eBay that I've had on there for sale forever 😄

Same for me. I worked the election so got an hour of rest this morning. I did weigh but it doesn't count because I gained 1/2lb and I don't believe it 🤣
Official weigh in tomorrow morning after a good night's sleep!

Mencia · 05/07/2024 12:01

Week 12 for me and today I’m officially 2 stone lighter. Although losses in the last 3/4 weeks have been so slow, and peppered with stalls, that I’m not feeling specially happy.
On 7.5 atm.

pinktransit · 05/07/2024 12:32

Medexpress have finally dispatched my order! I ordered on Tuesday, and it's taken this long to authorise and dispense. Now I'm going to have to wait in tomorrow until it's delivered, instead of going out. What a pain.

BlackFriYay · 05/07/2024 12:57

I don't think much of the 7.5.

I was hoping for some appetite suppression but I'm just hungry all of the time. I'm not eating over 1200 calories so it should still 'work' in theory but that's just me being disciplined.

So yeah, not a happy bunny.

I have a second 7.5 in the fridge for when I finish this current one in another 4 weeks but I don't think I'll bother. I'll start on the 10mg and use the second 7.5 to titrate down after.

QueenOfHiraeth · 05/07/2024 13:09

I'm bucking the trend by being rubbish here.
I am not sure if 2.5mg helped or if I just had a bit of a placebo effect so managed to eat better but I lost half a stone-ish over the month. Since going to 5mg I have really struggled and it has got harder week on week, meaning that my eating has gradually strayed a bit here and there culminating in a small weight gain today so overall my loss for 4 weeks on 5mg is about 2lb if that 😫
I had a shake for breakfast today about 9.30, went shopping about 11 and was ravenous!
I'm keen to get up to 7.5 and hope it helps but worried about side effects as I am due to start it on Thurs and away for a week from Fri
I just wish it was a simple for me as for the younger women I see on TikTok, etc who have started this and are losing miraculously

I'm also feeling hungry recently. Although have gone up to 10mg for my last dose. Which is a weird! Hoping another dose of 10mg will do the trick. Also my ttm is due next week, so probably that's making me hungry.

I agree, take the 10mg and keep the 7.5mg for maintenance maybe.

Oakcupboard · 05/07/2024 13:18

Hi everyone, is anywhere accepting discount codes now?

I'm on 7.5mg, have lost 25lbs - had my my diabetic review and now I have moved into pre diabetic levels which great! But also means I now wont ever qualify to get it on prescription 🙄 even though that's the reason I'm now out of diabetic range.

ineedmoresleepnow · 05/07/2024 13:29

Just took the bonus dose of 7.5mg making it 14 weeks done for me. I have lost 27 pounds, so frustratingly close to the two stone mark.

However I'm feeling a bit worried by the appetite suppression I have now. I'm just not interested at all in food. I've consistently stuck to three meals a day, no snacks and no alcohol for the last three months and that's been absolutely brilliant as I will admit to being a binge eater previously.
But this week I have had no interest in food at all, haven't finished any meal and have just had to literally absolutely force myself to manage a third of my lunch.
I don't want to go down a dose, the weight loss is steady but has slowed down alot over the last month frustratingly. But it's not healthy habits long term to have to force myself to eat either and worried about the impact of such minimal eating and what happens after i stop the medication. Bit of a ramble about what's in my head.

ThirdStorm · 05/07/2024 13:31

Good news! More batch extensions. You may already all know of course but I thought it was worth a share.

Product Batch Number D712074 - new expiry date 30-10-2024
Product Batch Number D720751 - new expiry date 28-02-2025
Product Batch Number D720957 - new expiry date 28-02-2025

ThirdStorm · 05/07/2024 13:34

@ineedmoresleepnow i get it. I’m not worrying for now as I recognise the loosing weight part of the process is different to the maintenance bit. Whilst I’ve stopped overeating and snacking I’m not sure I’ve created all the healthy habits future yet. Still time. I will look to our American friends to how their health experts prescribe MJ for maintenance (without wishing to offend anybody upset that I’m stockpiling!)
